Thank you for the three ways! My cousin has alopecia and is using a headband to hide her hair loss in the front. She asked if I could make her some and I found your video!! Thanks so much for all the tips. I even went to a thrift store and found a cool knit swimsuit coverup to use.
I knew the hidden seam on the green band from another video and I forgot the method, then I lost the video, could not find, but luckily I found yours with the hidden seam. Thank you.
Hi Jan, thank you so much for sharing this video. I found yours so far the easiest one to follow and just made a beautiful headband for myself using an old jumper fabric. It's definitely the first of many. It looks absolutely beautiful! Thank you ❤
I have a Verve as well, that I have only used for mostly mask making. I finally started making bowl cozies, pillow cases, and microwave potato bags and i'm looking for a new project. Just started headbands but wasn't sure which stitch. Glad to see I guessed right! Thanks for the video!
Hi Jan.....thank you for your WONDERFUL tutorial! Your instructions are clear and concise, and since I am a visual learner...your tutorial are perfect!!!!
Some machines will pull knit fabric into the feed dogs when starting. Try starting the seam on a regular scrap piece of cotton fabric then scoot the knit right next to it and continue sewing. You can also start sewing about a 1/2 inch from the edge and then backstitch. Make sure you are using a ball point needle for the knit fabric as well.
liked this video very much. you mentioned that a jersey needle needs to be used or a universal needle. I have always heard to use a ball point needle when working with knits/stretchy materials as universal needles will make holes and should only be used for cotton fabrics. I am confused. would you please reply. thanking you in advance.
Yes, correct. Some knits are fine with a universal needle. I find the more cotton the knit fabric has the more likely it will create a hole with a universal needle. I always test the needle on a scrap piece of fabric first. I hope that was helpful.
Hello!! Would it be ok to use a serger for the first headband? Specially at the end when you fold the two ends onto each other? Or will it be too much fabric for the serger?
Hi Jenn, You could try it, but it is a lot of bulk for your machine. Another reason to use a regular machine is that you won't have the serger stitch chain to hide.
hi I was hoping you could help me out. when I sew a head band it don't stretch because of the stitch what am I doing wrong is there a different thread your using or what please help. Also what tension do you use
If you'll watch this portion of the video, I show you the stitch you need to use so the fabric and seam stretches. th-cam.com/video/JOJfwL9ceW0/w-d-xo.html
Hi Angelina Yes, you are correct. You only use one of those strips. The fabric was doubled so I ended up with two cut out. That is a little confusing. Sorry about that.
This gal explains it well. th-cam.com/video/6FzBmPOxccw/w-d-xo.html The fabric edge that is cut perpendicular to the selvage edge when pulled will curl to the right side. Fleece, however when stretched will curl to the wrong side.
Hmmm, just looked at head measurement guide and it does not make sense to me. Toddler and teen are same size but 3-10 year olds are bigger. I know we are supposed to use as a guide, not a set rule but my 7 year old grandaughter is 22 inches, a big adult. Hmmmm That said, as I have told you before I just love your videos and use them all the time, thank you.
Thanks for reaching out and thank you for catching that typo. I have fixed those measurements. Here is the link for the correct chart. drive.google.com/file/d/1wINK4mqF8gBRXMlKwjxSFDNfgpY6bk0C/view?usp=sharing When you measured your granddaughter's head, did you place the tape measure where she would be wearing a headband? Thad does seem pretty large for a 7-year-old. I am 22 inches and I think my head is on the larger side. Let me know if you have any further questions. Getting ready to upload the topknot and bow headband tutorial. Enjoy your day, Jan

Twice my fabric got stuck in the machine. It doesn't move. And I am using a recycled t-shirt. What am I doing wrong?

Did the 2 inches always take it out for the 3 bands? For adults and kids?

Can you use flannel to make the head band, if you have the exact measurement of the head?
No. It needs to be stretchy fabric

@@JanHowell yes I seen it and you helped alot I couldn't figure it out till I watch this a second time thanks for getting back with me
What if the fabric does not stretch that much how many inches will minus from my head circumference
I would only focus on using fabric that IS stretchy enough, or you may not be able to get it on your head.
Just want to clarify, you cut two pieces of pink fabric but only used one to make the headband, correct?
Hi Angelina Yes, you are correct. You only use one of those strips. The fabric was doubled so I ended up with two cut out. That is a little confusing. Sorry about that.
What are th measurements of the first one you made?
