dude had a crush on me for like 4-5 years in middle and high school. There's a difference between being close to/casually touching your crush and full on ignoring when they tell you not to touch them or continually remind you of personal space. Dude would get up in my face til i was on the edge of my seat leaning almost 90 degrees away from him and he's still mere inches from my face and touching me. It wasn't until my junior year of highschool my flagrantly gay (actually bi) guy friend became a freshman and had lunch with me every other day when this dude had the same lunch period. When dude who was crushing on me would try to bother me, my 6 foot something friend would stand up and get in his space the way he'd do to me and make him uncomfortable the way he was always doing to me. Note- dude crushing on me is also 6 foot something, about the same height as freshy friend, but also my age and much bigger around. Yet my knight in shining 6" heels always got him to leave me alone. I was so grateful because after YEARS of being uncomfortable with this dude in the hallways or during lunch or classes, I finally had a bit of peace, while my friend had his fun with the dude who kept ignoring my explicit wishes for him to leave me alone and stop touching me. If you actually read all of this leave a shoutout to your friends who bail you out of tough spots like this. They're honestly the best.

We'd have hours-long text convos that stretched late into the night (he's a morning person, and had an old flip phone without a keyboard...). We'd send carefully worded ambiguous texts (--only to get equally ambiguous replies!) He took me on a "not-a-date"--to a very nice place--for my birthday (thought he: friends can take friends out for their birthday, that's not weird, right?). I remember him mostly in profile (great view of his gorgeous dimples!), he didn't dare look me in the eyes w/o giving himself away. I giggled. I. Do. Not. Giggle. Ever. But I did...He grinned and laughed (a lot)--something he was not ever known to do (slight smiles and chuckles, yes). The spot-on b'day presents showed he'd paid very, very careful attention to me. It sure *felt* like a date! (Us: "but what does he/she feel about me?" Everyone in the restaurant knew--except us.)
It started to come out in two nights of hours-long text marathons a couple weeks later. At one point, he said "I see why guys fall so quick for you". (Me: romantic feelings? or friend complimenting friend?)(yes, I know, totally gormless.)
Things got steadily less ambiguous from there. The second night of dancing around, he finally stuck his neck out and said something so unambiguous (and so sweet!) that even *I* could figure out how he felt. I replied in kind. We got married 6 months later (much to nobody's surprise).

I had a crush on a guy from one of my classes during the entire year. I used to stare a lot at him, smile and I put on makeup whenever I knew he would be sitting in front of me.
