Had to replace my starter today… To make things easier for the “drive-way mechanic”:with just a jack: put the body as high as you can on jack stands and make sure that the wheels and axel are hanging free off the ground..This gives you much more space to access the starter! Absolute pain in the a.. to wiggle it out when the wheels touch the ground as the upper control arm is in the way. DON’T remove the arm! You will need to realign the axel if you do that! Use a few ratchet extensions and a joint socket to loosen the 15 mm screws, they are a pain to reach otherwise. After that, easy peasy, just loosen the power cable and connector and slide the starter forward and it drops right out.. Get your nose dirty and good luck!
Thank you! Especially for the tool review half the time before I do a job I watch these just to figure out what tools I’m going to need so I don’t have to keep getting up and grabbing sockets
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for uploading this video. It was a tremendous help, and all the tools you mentioned to use were exactly what I needed. Took about 40 minutes.
Thanks for putting this video up I'm going threw hard times right now and can't afford a mechanic so this video is great. Thanks huge thumbs up from me
get underneath the car and tap the starter with a heavy object while someone else turns the key and it should start. Though this is only a temporary fix and you should get a more permanent one as soon as possible. You can repeat this but eventually the entire stater will wear out and it won't work at all anymore
Good video. I would have liked to see more about the actual location on the vehicle for those that don't even know what they are looking for, but it is for sure not the end of the world to not have that information in the video. A bit of penetration lubrication fluids would have also been a nice to see in the video. IMHO there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism in by book so hopefully you see it that way too, just for what it is and nothing more.
You replaced tje starter without checking the following: Battery, fuse, relay, neutral switch, or the wire that supply power to the starter solenoid for resistance!??
thats. crazy literally same exact story as me except last night gf and thw kids and I where all thr way out in a different town on a back road so come to find out the guy that sold the jeep tome two weeks ago knew about it cause it was beaten up alrady lol

Excellent video, especially the tool list & pointers & tips. Bravo!
thanks for the video man. my started went out glad I could find a very good quality video to watch to see how to replace it.
Thank you for your nice comment. You are the reason these videos are made.
Good video, but it would be helpful if you indicated in the title that it's for the ZJ Grand Cherokee V8, not the later models.
I guess we're just supposed to already be familiar with this channel to know what year this is for? Great method for attracting new viewers.
This was a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado but, the book says all years of the 318 V8.

Thank you. I agree, this was more of a sharing of my repair rather than an instructional video.
Very informative thank you for taking the time to make this dawg

You have to figure that he hit the starter with some voltage and determined that it was shot.
Can you do crankshaft sensor please
Sorry. I no longer have access to this vehicle.
