Thank you for helping me identify the problem with my 2007 Jeep Laredo. I thought it was the battery and had it tested twice but both times I was shown a full battery.
This video was a life saver. Just replaced my starter on my ‘09 Grand Cherokee. No need to remove the drive shaft whatsoever. Followed your specific instruction and it was simple, finished inn under 1 1/2 hours. Thank you!!
I appreciate this video… I really did not want to remove my driveshaft ..getting the heat shield off was tricky, but I was able to push it up and out behind the drivers side wheel
Bro!!!! Thanks 🙏🏻 so much easier! Put it on jackstands, and used a swivel, and 2 1/2 ft extension pretty quick!! Thanks a bunch don’t half to pull the drive shaft!!
I sometimes believe the car manufactures do these things to stop DIY car owners from trying to do their own repairs. Excellent advice again Thank you Jim
I was able to do the same repair without having to remove the driveshaft. Looks like someone had done this one time before and must have over torqued the bolts. I needed a long half inch extension and breaker bar to bust it loose. It took every ounce of strength I had but managed to get them off without stripping the bolts or breaking them. the rest tool less than 15 minutes. And also, I bought a used starter for $50 so it was a cheap and easy repair. must haves are ramps and at least 1/2 in drives to get it loose.
I stopped referring to manuals for disassembly procedures when they stopped printing them. The only use I have for them now is wiring diagrams and torque specs. The torque specs I can usually find in a YT video. The wiring diagrams are a different story. Watching Eric O or Ivan with their scopes makes me feel my age!
Makes it look easy going up inside but notice no heat shield is on the starter he demonstrated sliding up between the 3rd member and other obstacles lol.
You have your own videos in mind to do, but may I suggest step by step spark plug wires replacement. I'm having this job done by a garage because I couldn't find a step by step demonstration video. They describe the wires, construction, voltage, coils, spark plugs, but don't actually show pulling the old wires and plugging the new ones in - perhaps because it's simple but an actual no short cut demo is what gives people confidence to do it 👩🔧🇺🇲🛠️🇷🇺
Didn't work 4 me. Not sure how my 07 is any different than the 1 in the video but driveshaft needs to be removed. Update, I gotnit out the drivers idea wheelwell after I removed the tire of course 🙃
Same thing happened to me when replacing front struts on my grand marquis. Factory shop manual had me disassemble half the suspension on one side, when just lifting the control arm up they can be wiggled out.
Jim, you’ve been around long enough to know, there are ways to do things without relying on a computer. Service data is always just added fluff. ed booktime to a job to screw over the customer.
Hi Jim! We just had a new starter installed on a 07 jeep and it worked for a couple of days. It's now not starting again.. could it not have been the starter? The lighting bolt symbol is coming on... any advise is appreciated
After having done this myself I can say it is absolutely possible, but it is significantly more difficult than it has any right to be. If it’s between this way and a long walk off a short pier, take this route. Otherwise pay for somebody else to handle it.

Were you able to remove the starter with the heat shield on the starter? I am about to change one tomorrow.

They do, dealerships make more money on repairs than the actual sale.
Thanks Jim. Hope all is well! Jim from Ultimate Bayonne
Hi Jim. Everything with me is great. I hope you are doing ok also. Next time I'm in the area I'll stop by .
@@jimthecarguy thanks, look forward to catching up
Great catch, Jim! That's proof that a good mechanic/diagnostician is smarter than most OEM engineers.

Got my Subscription for Sho 💯💯💯
Just did it and it works like this guys!
You can also remove the wheel well and get access to the starter and remove it easily in the big gap from the wheel well removal
Thanks for your input

work like a charm I appreciated
Thanks for this. I’m doing a 2008 right now I’m having a hard time getting the socket up in there. What size socket did it require?
Great tip Jim! A real timesaver for sure.

Where at through the wheel well?
Was this a gas engine. Because with a diesel I think you have to remove a engine mount.
Will this work on the 6.1 SRT8?

Get a better light can't hardly see anything.
This so beneficial, thanks

Must of been a 3.7, mine a 4.7 and no way of the starter coming out i had to remove the drive shaft
Is it on the drivers side?
Only on cars built east of the Mississippi.
How did you access the wire with the clip and the one with the nut?
