I think tattoos all have meaning and stories, even if it’s just “I really liked it” or whatever. There’s always something behind the tattoo, even if it’s just as simple as someone pointing to a flash on the wall and going “that one”.
I only have 4 tattoos as of right now but 3 are very visible. The advice I have is to not be ashamed of being tattooed or let people make you feel ashamed by it. My next tattoo is going to be on the back of my bicep and my family said "are you sure about that, people will be able to see it." (Even though 2 of mine are on my lower arm)If you want your tattoo in a visible spot do it, it's your body and your choice. So be proud of your ink and own it!
hey! I'm 13 years old and really want tattoos when I'm older, I just want to say that your videos are incredibly informative and I love them a lot, so just thanks for sharing your info. 💕
cant get over how pretty this hair is! i'm getting my first tattoo on the 19th of august (i turn 18 on the 14th). spent so much time picking the studio and artist and i wouldnt have done that if it wasnt for your videos! i feel so confident that the artist i've booked with is going to do my tattoo justice and keep it true to how ive designed it. thank you for all your helpful videos!
I only have one tattoo on my forearm. I'd give people the advice that they should think abour placement a lot. I like the tattoo that I've got, but it peaks out of my shirts if I push them up a bit. You'll get looks and questions. If you want it to be something private, put it somewhere other's probably won't see. It's simple advice that I got before, but I wanted to have a tattoo I would see all the time. I don't hate that I put it there, but it's something to think about.
I think a good tip to add to this, and it's not really much of a tip but something to have in mind is that I see a lot of people that don't get tattooed because they think that the tattoo artist will think it's a bad idea or that they'll judge them for asking to get that specific thing tattooed. First of all, if a tattoo artist laughs at what you want to get done, just walk out of the shop, they're probably a shitty artist not professional anyways. So if you want something, go get it done and fuck what people think hahaha.
Make sure to talk with your artist before he/she starts. If there are bits of the piece that you want to be different, telling them after they get started is just going to waste time. Also, their advice is often good advice that they give you so the piece will look better, so unless it's something you're really against, take it.
Great advice like always! If I had any advice it would be that if you're thinking about getting a quote or lyrics tattoo that imagery would be a better way to go about it. gets quite annoying having strangers try to read and even grab a part of your body day in and day out. Images are clearer speaks louder and just more creative imo.
This was really helpful for me as I’m planning my first tattoo. I’ve been researching for about a week now about things as far as what to look for, what to avoid, what you should do and I really love your videos
Love your hair color & your necklace!! My other tip would be tattoo flu. I know it doesn't happen to everyone. But you may have experienced it. The next day your tattoo is swollen (which is typical) and you may feel shitty/rundown.
I'm 18 and I'm getting my first tattoo on the 3rd of august :) can't wait x you and qknd have helped me so much, otherwise I'd have no idea about looking for artists and what to avoid etc :Dx
This is so strange because I'm literally 18 and getting my first tattoo on August 3rd of this year!!! And I agree, she and qcknd have helped me so much ~ I hope it turned out well
I had my first at 15 and I'd wanted it as long as I can remember. I'm planning more (a certain theme) but want my first one to be worked around and incorporated. I adore it ❤. It's my only colour tattoo, and even though it's over 20yrs old still looks really good 👌🏾
Whenever I'm nervous about something I just think of how many people do the thing all the time and if it's that bad then nobody would do it. I mean...if you're in some weird, really specific situation that almost no one has experienced you're kinda screwed but in most situations it calms me down.
Thanks for your advice! I've been watching all your videos to help me figure out my first tattoo. I'm trying to find somewhat local artists near me that I really like. But I'm having trouble figuring out the really good from the ok. What are some things I could look for in their work that demonstrates a tattoo artist is skilled and experienced? And I know you can't predict how a tattoo will age, but are there factors on the artists' part that would affect how their pieces age?
I haven't got any tattoos, which surprises a few people, because I'm quite gothic and I draw all the time. I don't think I ever would either, but I really appreciate it as an Art form and think it looks stunning on other people :) and I enjoy hearing you talk about them, I'm learning things I didn't know before! :)
I found my tattooist because the shop is related to to shop in Miami ink and the boys from the show have been over and guested there before so I thought they would be ok. I ended up with a fabulous tattooist and a great friend who has tattooed me for the last 10 years (I only have had a couple by other people that have guested at the same shop). I got lucky tho, I didn't look at any artwork or anything I just walked in and booked my appointment.
You need to mention Hannah pixie snowdon in one of your videos!!! I'm a tattoo apprentice from the US and she's one of my favorite tattoo artist and her work and work on her is just mesmerizing!
Good morning Tatts, looking beautiful as ever! I agree tattoos hurt...period. BUT if you want the glory you have to endure the pain. Starting a full body suit in November so looking forward to some interesting spots, believe the derriere can be rather lively :)
i got tattood when i turned 18 at a pretty good shop in my town, the artist was good (very good for some thing, mediocre for others) i LOVE my tattoo, i drew it myself and he said that he didnt need to change a thing, but im not sure id go there again as he was very unprofessional, he was very nice and it was a great expirience with him but he never asked for my age, he never asked about health problems, all he said when i made the appointment was 'have you been tattood before?' and 'i dont think itll hurt you much' (he was right, i basically fell asleep in the chair) but the lack of protocal and stuff really bothered me, like its fine for me, ive been learning about tats since i was 14 but what about someone who hasnt done much reserch and doesnt realize the problems they could have, like what if i was pregnant or diabetic or allergic to something or very underage? he never would have known and it could have gone very wrong
None of those affect the tattooing process. You definitely CAN get tattooed while pregnant, diabetic or anything else. If the artist are using all safety protocols they dont need to know if youre ill.
@@nestaziinastasija4599 i know that you can still get tattooed with those things going on, but at least where i live (i assume its different everywhere) its the accepted protocol literally everywhere to, perhaps not ask if those things apply to you, but to inform you of any possible increased risks or differences in care if you have a mdical condition, especially one that can effect healing or bleeding or allergies
i used palmier's cocoa butter (probably spelt wrong) on both my tattoos as recommended by my artist ,the first few days i also used antiseptic cream like salvon only because i bled loads and i asked my artist this she said it was fine just so the wound would be sanitised along side this i used the cocoa butter and both ave healed perfectly
I must say thought, I got my first tattoo with 16. I did a lot of research and thought about the design for a long time. Still absolutely love it to this day :)
If want to have full sleeves eventually, planning the entire thing is the best idea however ittakes a lot of patience which many people don't have. I personally like sleeves to look continuous so try to get it done with similar styles so your sleeve will look consistent (you don't want it to look like a bunch of copy + paste pieces) If you're younger and serious about tattoo's, try start saving your money early so you can afford a good artist. (Talented artists are not cheap). Then even if its not your favourite tattoo it will still look good.
Thank you for making such an informative video, Ms Lauren! This video will be very helpful for the younger viewers looking to get tattoos because you tell them everything they need to consider. Take care, be safe, & God bless!
Wow you look different with your hair like that (stunning) ....btw iv been tattooed by sketch(on tattoo fixerd)I would talk about it but not sure if im aloud cus i signed some papers there.....cool channel keep it up
just got my first, doing the healing portion now, having just had a partial hysterectomy for stage 4 endometriosis, the pain was nothing for me, it didnt even register as pain until the last 1/4, and it was the blacked out moons on my spine that hurt. i went for a large back piece right over my spine and did it in one go, 5hrs. our tattoo artist said she couldnt believe how well i did, i told her when they first started i could have fallen asleep during the first 3/4. my sister also got tattooed that day, but she got it on her side, (also large tattoo for a first piece) and got it 3/4 done but will have to go back next month, it went late in the day and it was on her ribs, so she couldnt take anymore that day. my main thing i think would be, if your artist is the small town kind who does many different styles, do your research on styles, know what it is you want and proper terms, also make a rough mock up if you can draw, it helps them head in the right direction from the start and gives less confusion. my sister and i both made mock ups of what we wanted, my sister's needed a few alterations, but she's gotten a lovely tattoo out of it because our artist new what she was going for and how to make it work. our artist told me immediately that mine was perfect, she didnt feel like it needed any tweaking and was a good neo example (she even told me i should design flash sheets).
I guess the rules in the UK are different. Where I live it's 18 (for both tattoos and piercings), but if you're 14 or over and a parent is present or signs then it's also ok. I got my first tattoo at age 15 (almost 16 for my birthday as a present), and I love it. The artist was really nice, talked me through it and did a great job. Every time I look at it in the mirror I love it. It's aged pretty nicely too in my opinion (I'm 27 as of writing this comment)
My back was super chill (so far) but the worst was the crook of my arm - it also took over a week longer to heal than the rest of my arm. I think it's interesting how different people ecperience pain :0
Hello! I just wanted to know, how do you know what kind of style of tattooing the piece you want falls into? I’m having a hard time finding out which category the ones I want would be in, and wanted some insight if possible! Thank you so much, you’re amazing❤️
I'm not Lauren, of course, but I might be able to help you! When I was 17 and started becoming interested in tattoos I was in the same boat as you. I didn't know anything about different tattoo styles! What I did was google 'different tattoo styles', and looked at a lot of lists of different styles. They should have example pictures and definitions. I also searched on TH-cam For example, there will be sights that have the 'main' styles of tattoos and a definition. The most popular styles will be American Traditional, realism, Neo traditional, water colour, black and grey, link work, and maybe a few more! If you want to explain a bit about what your desired tattoos may look like I could try help explain what style it might be? I hope this helps! :)
I'll attempt to give my two cents on the topic here. Tattoo is art and (I would say) is categorized like art. There are broad styles that it could fit in and then little subcategories; however, artists will start to have a signature style over time that may or may not fit into any sort of existing category. Furthermore, other artists will start to take inspiration of that new and unique style and improve upon it, eventually creating enough attention to the public but with no official name. That being said, it's possible to describe one piece of artwork in many different descriptions, or perhaps none at all. You could also say it's like music in finding the closely related ideas and see if it has some aspects of one thing or another. If anything, you could always describe tattoos in non-tattoo lingo to something that makes more sense to you. An example being Salvador Dali type art, mandalas, cartoons or characters straight from a game/show, pixel images, expressive art. There will most likely be some sort of 'official' tattoo category for you, but that also depends on how the tattoo was done (pointillism, black and grey, color, bold lines, ect.) Like I said, it's art! Although, a good thing to do is search for other artists that do the same style and see what they call it. (If anything, you could just say it's black and grey/bold color, traditional/or linework respectively and they might have an idea.)
14:58 the pain level of a tattoo depends a lot on how light a touch the artist has, how much color (especially bright or white colors) is in it, how big it is, and where it is. And your tolerance lol.
I have two mediumi'ish tattoos. A treble cleft the size of my hand surrounded by starts and a compass that covers my entire shoulder blade. The issue I'm personally having is that they both have colour and I love the colour but at the same time I love the tattoos without any colour. When I get inspiration for tattoos they always have colour and in a way I don't like colour cause it does fade overtime and the different colours fade at different times. I still come them and I'm going to get them recoloured but it still feel a bit of regret even though I'll probably do it again and again but also love the tattoo.
Wish I'd watched this vid before getting my first (and only - for now) tattoo. I didn't look for a tattooist that specialised in linework but just a local allrounder /sigh. The lines are way wobbly and the blowouts are real but I still LOVE the idea, it's just the work on her part I dislike...
My mother passed away when I was 16 I’m almost 17 but I really don’t want to have to wait another year to get a tattoo for her. I understand it’s illegal where I live (California) but I think a memorial tattoo on someone 17 isn’t really something they’re going to regret and I wish I didn’t need to wait.
I got really cold and shaked the whole time hahahaha bring a blanket or jacket (if possible). That Washington a very sunny and Warm day, my artist told me some people experience a drop in temperature because your body freaks out
hey! So i really want to get a tattoo, but im really worried about my adhd because i tend to fidget and shake my leg a lot especially when im in distress. Now i know i need to stay as still as i can but im afraid itll be impossible with out having a mental breakdown and becoming hyper aware of everything around me and wanting to escape. Any advice on the topic would be appreciated.
PartySparkelz hi! I know this is a bit late and I’ve never gotten a tattoo before but I also have attention problems. I’ve been researching a lot about tattoos and I saw a video that said as long as the area the artist is working on is still, it should be fine to move another body part. Also, you can bring your phone to listen to music or watch Netflix while you’re getting tattooed to distract you. I hope this helps
Some people are really not good with pain... I broke my leg and didn't make a peep and there was a tough former soldier who had the same injury and screamed and cried like a baby... So yeah...
I fortunately have not experienced being touch because of my tattoos, it could be because I work in the public and they're always showing, idk, but I do get the accational questions about it, most people are just curious, and I e yet to experience someone being rude about them, but where I'm at in America, a good portion of people are fairly heavily tattooed. I guess it just depends on where you're at and the type of people around you.
I´m 17 and i reeeally want tattoos. my mum is totally against it and sais that she will not accept that and if i get one i´m not allowed to live in her house anymore. another problem is that i know what i want but i´m a person that loves change (in clothes, hair, my room and so on) and i´m afraid that i wont like my tattoos in some years. i have set myself a minimum of five years of wanting a tattoo before i get it but i´m still not shure.. any advice? (i live in germany so i can be tattooed when i´m 18)
I m having an appointment tomorrow morning for my thigh tattoo and I m so nervous.it is pretty big and I've only had one tattoo in the past m but it was just a pretty small wrist tattoo, 9years ago 😣😳 i m 27 btw.
yay thank you for your answer! it went very well, didn't hurt a lot , especially since it was mostly dotted! he did a minor mistake , i wanted a moth combined with the moon phases ( 7 of the phases with the 4th - full moon - being in the center ) well , the one on the left of that is actually a bit of a ...full moon too , he didnt make the shape very correctly . but in generally I am happy with it , I dont think nobody would notice that ( it would stand out even more as a mistake if I tried to fix it I guess.. ) . thank you, keep up the great videos!
What if I tell the tattoo artist what I want, I show them pictures or whatever about what I want and then they take their time to draw it for me and all but when I see the drawing they made and don't like it, is it wrong to say that I don't like ir or to say you want a new one, or something changed? How do I say that? I just don't want to be rude but at the same time I don't like the drawing for the Tattoo. All the videos I've only really saw is Always: People seeing the picture and then getting tattooed and just being happy about it. I don't have tattoos as I'm still too young for it but I really want some in the future, but I'm just quite a picky and perfectionist person, so I was just wondering about that.
I’m also too young to get a tattoo but from what I’ve heard, don’t be afraid to tell your artist your opinion. Just try to make sure that you say it in a nice way and everything should be fine. You don’t want to have a piece of art on your body forever that you hate simply because you didn’t speak up. Also: feel free to talk to multiple artists to see what artwork you like the best. I’m not very educated on this (aside from watching about 100+ TH-cam videos lol) but I hope this helps. I understand being worried you’ll hurt the person’s feelings but if the artist is good they’ll understand.
having rainbow hair already gets a lot of random people coming up to me asking about my hair so the whole people coming up to me thing is fine XD. Lets hope my first one goes well.
A lot of artists don’t like it when people have numbing cream on their skin cause it jeopardise’s the way the skin acts making it hard to tattoo! It’s best to ask the tattoo artist you are going to what they think is best ! I’ve never personally used it before so I have no experience ! Sorry I can’t be of more help 😔
treacle tatts Thank you for your answer! I was actually looking into to go to Romeo Lacoste, he said he is fine with numbing cream. Than i found your video about him 😁😁😁😁 so i will look for someone else 😁 i only want a tiny tattoo of one word and maybe some little image nothing crazy.
Small tattoos are fine if it's small like one on an ankle but big ones all over your body is really trashy looking. Its just my opinion. You want to look likes and not trashy.
I know people who spend $500 on a watch, just because it's the newest trend. I would much rather spend $500 on a piece of ink art. Great video!
I think tattoos all have meaning and stories, even if it’s just “I really liked it” or whatever. There’s always something behind the tattoo, even if it’s just as simple as someone pointing to a flash on the wall and going “that one”.
Reasoning doesn’t equal meaning.

Omgg I barely recognized you at first glance!! Happy TH-cam recommend this now👌 glad to see your growth through the years
I think a good tip to add to this, and it's not really much of a tip but something to have in mind is that I see a lot of people that don't get tattooed because they think that the tattoo artist will think it's a bad idea or that they'll judge them for asking to get that specific thing tattooed. I don't know Lauren, I might sell a kidney to finish this damn half sleeve lol
LOL, honestly ....I can relate - id sell my kidney to get tattooed by some of my favourite artists haha!!
Such good info for someone getting their first tattoo! I'm so excited 😁

My tattoos have never once itched while healing, I'm so lucky.
thank you for this! have my first tattoo booked for september and im so! excited!
OOOOO how exciting!! Hope it goes well for you
treacle tatts thank you!
Coconut oil is a comedogenic (it clogs your pores). I wouldn't use it on a tattoo as it could cause a breakout and ruin the tattoo.
I think it'll just depend on the person. I used coconut oil to heal my inner bicep and it worked lovely!
I must say thought, I got my first tattoo with 16. I did a lot of research and thought about the design for a long time. Still absolutely love it to this day :)

I would totally sell a kidney for a new tattoo! lol well may not that far but its tempting!
LOL honestly .... if it meant getting tattooed by one of my favourites ....id probably do the same haha!
I feel like you guys are only saying this because you don't know the pain of actually living without a kidney.
Thank you for making such an informative video, Ms Lauren! This video will be very helpful for the younger viewers looking to get tattoos because you tell them everything they need to consider. Take care, be safe, & God bless!

Also your hair looks really great, a good look for you!

I know this video is old, but WHERE did you get that gorgeous necklace?!
Thanks for this awesome video. This helped me so much.
I also searched on TH-cam
For example, there will be sights that have the 'main' styles of tattoos and a definition.
Tattoo aftercare, I make my own. Bees wax, hemp oil and coconut oil. I have tattoo artists buying it from me.
The sun is the devil and so is water... so just be a vampire
U R so HELPFULL
!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to the studio right away and bock an apointment ....
😮
I got really cold and shaked the whole time hahahaha bring a blanket or jacket (if possible). That Washington a very sunny and Warm day, my artist told me some people experience a drop in temperature because your body freaks out
Yes. I had a reason for mine. When I did them. At least I thought I did …when I got older…I couldn’t stand them. Think before hand…than think again
I'm just curious what the guy was doing that was making that banging noise.
Honestly, no idea haha! Kinda sounded like whoever it was was chopping up wood or something!
I absolutely love your necklace. Do you remember where you got it?
I think it was boohoo !
Thanks this is so helpful i really need to get tattoos, unfortunately i dont have any :/
I'm getting a tattoo by a guy who charges £30 an hour, but when I saw his style I instantly wanted his work on me
A BIG handful 😆
I m having an appointment tomorrow morning for my thigh tattoo and I m so nervous.it is pretty big and I've only had one tattoo in the past m but it was just a pretty small wrist tattoo, 9years ago 😣😳 i m 27 btw.
You'll be fine lovely! Thigh tattoos (for me anyway) aren't that painful! Hope it goes well
yay thank you for your answer! it went very well, didn't hurt a lot , especially since it was mostly dotted! he did a minor mistake , i wanted a moth combined with the moon phases ( 7 of the phases with the 4th - full moon - being in the center ) well , the one on the left of that is actually a bit of a ...full moon too , he didnt make the shape very correctly . but in generally I am happy with it , I dont think nobody would notice that ( it would stand out even more as a mistake if I tried to fix it I guess.. ) . thank you, keep up the great videos!
I really wish I watched the email video before I emailed the tattoo shop I'm planning on going to XD I definitely didn't do it right
Can you tell your opininos about using numbing cream before getting tattoed? Thank you
A lot of artists don’t like it when people have numbing cream on their skin cause it jeopardise’s the way the skin acts making it hard to tattoo!
Theres a guy with his own amazing tattoo names Mambo. I wanna get tattooed by him so badly but hes in Italy and Im in the US😭😭
HAIR! HAIR!
haha i had to laugh at those clips lol
Omg those videos of people screaming are so ridiculous, i feel bad for the artists that's gotta be super annoying
my fathers wife is a tattoo artist so im lucky that i can get tattoos as birthday gifts for nothing.
I don't know, I might sell my kidney for another tattoo
Why am I watching this? I have 8 tats 😂😂
sunburnt? 😅
hahaha yes!!
I accidently forgot that suncream existed and went to the zoo and got a bit cooked haha!!
Small tattoos are fine if it's small like one on an ankle but big ones all over your body is really trashy looking. Its just my opinion. You want to look likes and not trashy.
