I think you can just hit the center stem with the heat, then let it wither and die and not burn the whole plant to ash. Worked for my gravel driveway anyway. Most of the plants stay gone for a long time when damaged this way. Grass clusters seem to grow back quickly though.
Well, it's just that there's are seeds all over these. Trying to burn the seeds too so they don't just fall into the cracks and grow new weeds. Burning the center sends all the unburnt branches flying out in all directions.

I love my weed burner. Strap the tank to a hand truck and away I go. I use it year round. Great to clear and dry cement in the winter.
I use it to light charcoal/wood for my smoker.
