      I’m a bit confused - this car seems to have the Night Package fitted. However on the MB website I don’t see this anywhere as an option in the car configuration screens.
      OK, figured it out, this seems to be a special Launch Edition of the car….no longer available on the website.

      If you chat to Mercedes staff at a dealer they’ll be able to let you know what’s available.
      Specs from a manufacturer can change so it’s best to chat to them directly.
      I had a Quick Look on their online showroom and they have got just a few left of ones with a night package.

      GLB like all models based on the A class platform have the engine and gearbox mounted transversally, meaning the gearbox is the 7G-Tronic, wich is a small dated 7 gears gearbox unlike the other upper models of MB whose engine are mounted longitudinally allowing the WONDERFUL ultra efficient 9G-Tronic gearbox. My wife drives a GLA for years (and EQA now) and I drive GLC’s for years now and the difference is massive. Even though the size between GLA/GLB and GLC is not obvious, the difference of the powertrain is massive. 4-matic WAS way better on older GLC (my 2018 GLC had a permanent 4 wheel drive with a 55-45 ratio that was fantastic), now on the newer GLC models it is on par with the 4-matic of the A class Platform based models. It is quite disappointing. In A class platform based models the screens are very small and mounted too upward compared to upper models. The audio system is less good : even a burgmeister in a GLB is not as good as a basic audio in a GLC… MB makets the A class based models as entry level models so they don’t put the maximum in it (which is a shame in regards of the price they sell them).

    HI Nick Purchased My GLB 220D Premium Plus last year, very pleased with it, used it to go down to the South of France, 4 people and fully loaded boot, cruising at maximum motorway speeds, very comfortable for everyone on board, and it returned 49.94 miles per gallon over 2500 miles, also happy to drive it around Town and on shorter holiday journeys in the UK.
    Only used the 7 seats twice so far, but very happy when we did, as it saved an extra Multi story car park charge if we had taken two cars, rear seats only suitable for people up to 5ft 6 ins though, and then little boot space. Not planning to upgrade.
    Almost forgot, nice to have a KM per hour speedo when you want it after a few clicks on the screen !

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @davidwaltham8332 no trouble at all. I review several brands of cars on my channel so jumping in between them all and all of their various button and gearstick placements are relatively easy.
      For Mercedes, it’ll probably take you a day or two to get used to the stalks. Once you’ve used it, I’ve heard from many they never look back.
      On the left, wipers and indicators are on the same stalk which quite often is just left on the rain sensor anyway. And on the right, up for reverse, down for drive and the button for P.
      Easy 😎

    Good review as always Nick.
    I went for the previous model as there are a few things on the 24 model that I think are backwards in as far as being user friendly.
    I don’t like the touch buttons on the steering wheel as they are like the golf mk8 we had and they are not as good as the previous models buttons. The removal of the touch pad is also a backward step in my opinion and the shallow tray in its place reeks of lack of thought by the designers.
    That said I love my 220D 4matic and it’s a great car for families or those that need a flexible car that can do a multitude of tasks.

      Ah nice!
      Yes manufactures have been doing this for a while, but Volkswagen on their new Golf are even bringing out a new model with actual buttons reversing the whole touch thing.
      In this case in my car, I have the same steering wheel and it’s easy once you get to grips with it. Yes I would prefer buttons but it’s alright.
      Touchpad, I don’t know why it went but I don’t miss it out after almost a year! Won’t be long and it’ll need a service! 😅😅

    Hey,
    The 565L of boot volume is for the 5 seater version. We have to remove around 60L to get the boot capacity for the presented version.
    Difficult to find the information though, but some sites give it.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for having a look! However I research all of my videos throughly before switching the camera on. I found this info from the main Mercedes-Benz website and their brochure: www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/models/suv/glb/overview.html

    • @Linkzekiller
      @Linkzekiller 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, 565L is the default volume, which concerns the 5 seater version. We see on this webpage that the car can get "up to 7 seats", "up to" because this is not the default, but an option, and that option will take about 60L from the "underground" of the boot. The boot volume (at mercredes but also many other brands, not all) is calculated until the highest point of the back part of the seat closing the boot (i. e. below headrest at his lowest position), but underground included. So it makes sense the boot capacity is reduced with the 7 seater option, like it is with plugin hybrid versions (i. e. GLE 2018 looses all the underground which is more than 100L, and for that case it is clearly indicated).

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Linkzekiller hmmm strange well I get that but in the UK, GLB’s are currently only sold as a 7 seater. And I found the information on the web and on their eBrochure so went with what it stated after finding it in two places.

      @npoleary  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Don’t worry I’ve heard this many times before but rest assured the entry level engines in the compact car range are not just "Renault engines", Mercedes and Renault have combined their efforts together to produce a very highly economical, low emission and powerful engine.
      It’s common for some manufacturers to share designs with each other. Others include Mini Peugeot sharing their engines, Volvo and Noble, Mercedes S-Class & Pagani Zonda and many others too.
      For the engine you’re talking about, Mercedes also put their own tech and spin into it and designed Formula One technology such as Nanoslide and even cylinder shut-off called CAMTRONIC allowing the cylinders to go down to 2! None of this is found in the Renault’s engines so no, they are definitely not the same at all. Even the new variants feature mild hybrid technology which also is not found on Renault models.
      Hope that answers your question!

    Really good review! Much better than Matt Watson. I had the 1.3 petrol for a week and I was really surprised with the car. Really good chassis, great interior and seats! I loved that boxy look (I wish they would make GLA look like this, with a shorter wheelbase). The engine was really strong no complaints here. However, for being a hybrid, driving alone I was averaging 43mpg. Which was really great for such a boxy car. But as soon as I was driving with 4 people, with no luggage, the mpg was around 31 with a very gentle ride. And in the town I could see how a battery of the hybrid system is charged and discharged, but fuel consumption was still barely 29mpg. So maybe a diesel will be a better option for any family. And also this dual clutch gearbox was in the town not very smooth. Many times moving in the hill, just with a tiny bit of throttle there was lots of wheelspin. But I think 220d has different and smother gearbox than 1.3.

    During the test drive of the GLB I noticed that the gas pedal is a suspended, as opposed to the floor-mounted type I've always had in my cars. The pedal was a bit difficult to control, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it.

      @@npoleary I've had my GLB (200 AMG) for about a month now; generally I'm happy with it; I'm particularly impressed by how smoothly it drives, the steering wheel is simply great. Also relatively low fuel consumption for a big car: 6.8l/100km on the motorway.
      My only beef is that the automatic gearbox is slow to upshift gears , especially from 2nd to 5th. As a result, the revs are too high, which creates unwanted noise - this is especially pronounced when driving uphill. Have you encountered such a problem?

      I wouldn’t call it a problem, it’s probably more how they’re configured. It’s a small engine so the power band of the rev’s / engine needs to remain higher to retain the acceleration you might need.
      Try it in eco and it’ll keep the revs down lower. Just out of curiosity, how high are we talking? I did a long road trip yesterday and wouldn’t have described the engine as working hard with high revs (unless I was accelerating fast 😅)

    Hi Nick,
    Great Video and I love watching all your Mercedes videos. My wife calls you the online Mercedes guy I trust haha.
    Couple of quick question as we are looking to pull the trigger on this:
    Does the passenger seat also have memory seats? Not sure if it’s just me or if the literature wasn’t so clear.
    Also, in your personal opinion would you go GLB or EQB?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah thank you! Thanks for watching!
      The Online Mercedes guy? Haha 😛
      Yes as far as I’ve seen, not seen a car without passenger memory seats as it comes as a package. This is in the UK though, not sure for other countries.
      GLB or EQB? If I had to choose either of them, for me I’d go EQB.
      It’s down to whether or not you want to switch to Electric 🤓 yes they can be cheaper to run but the upfront cost is more.
      EV’s are cheaper as long as you make sure you get cheaper electricity such as charging at home.

      So Mercedes offer packages when choosing a car, normally it follows
      - Executive
      - Premium
      - Premium Plus
      It just depends what’s available on each one. I don’t run through them on video as I’ve seen that Mercedes update them at least a couple of times a year. So they might updates specs, prices or swap things round.
      When you buy one dealers will help you choose, having a quick look online I see that it’s on Premium, that’s the one with electric seats.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      GLC I would describe as smoother on the road and quieter but the price will probably reflect that as well. Basically a GLB is based on a B-Class where as a GLC is based on the C-Class. C-Class (or GLC) have a completely different interior. It has a vertical screen instead of landscape screen and offers a little more tech than the GLB. But most importantly the GLB is a 7 seater where as the GLC is a 5 seater. And Plug-in Hybrid (last time I checked) was only available on the GLC not GLB.

      Basically it’s because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing & coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything.
      So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen.
      NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
      Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

      Thanks Nick, it’s a shame though as the cropped screen in CarPlay gives an aftermarket look but the screen and MBUX is quite nice otherwise.

      Sadly I only started my channel in 2020 so don’t know what a 2014 A-Class has or had available at factory.
      It’s probably best to someone who works at Mercedes and they’ll be able to help and give tailored advice 👍🏼 they will be able to help!
      I’m sure they had something like Becker Map Pilot or something. For Apple CarPlay that would be a straight no, 2014/2015 is when Apple announced it to the world that they’d just invented it. This meant that it rolled out to cars over the coming years so for a Mercedes A-Class I’m sure I remember reading it was 2016 onwards.
      You’ll want something like this: th-cam.com/video/RTAbKVLlszk/w-d-xo.html
      Yes it’s sticks to the windscreen (with an optional mount) but it’s a way of adding modern tech to a car that didn’t have that functionality from new.
      Hope that helps! 👍🏼

    I have a 2021 GLB and I prefer the older steering wheel and touch pad. There isn't much of a difference between the facelift and mine, just the newer MBUX, steering wheel and lack of touch pad. I have found there seems to be more room generally in the GLB compared to my previous 2019 C class estate. Plus there is also a 12v power socket on the left hand side of the luggage area.

    Are MB making the GLB in MH drive now as you mentioned this in the vid. but when I checked the latest ( but preface lift) models they weren't, which tipped me over to a C class. For some reason that isn't clear, as far as I can establish, they seem to have held back on MHD for the GLB when everything else is now MH. Maybe it's because they need to max out every millimeter of internal space on the GLB and when you think about with a third row where would the 48v battery go but as you say quite a small engine without that boost of electrons to assist. But the 200d & 220d would be fine though, but better with 48v to give it a kick up the bottom as well as spooling up the turbo in a flash.

    Great video, but I think it's worth mentioning that the GLB 200 has a 1.3L engine, as you stated. However, it's produced by Renault, not Mercedes. The capacity of the engine is not only related to power but also to durability and the culture of working. It could be a little strange to buy a Mercedes without a Mercedes engine.

      It depends what you need it for, one’s very stylish with slopping roof and the other very practical with tonnes of space. CLA also had the same build quality as an A-Class, GLA & GLB. They’re still Premium but you get more luxury when you go to a model that’s derived from C-Class. E-Class, better than that, then S-Class at the top.
