So.. the flute and the clarinet had a child, the oboe and the bassoon was adopted then the oboe and bassoon had child and it was the English horn.. LOVELY
For that concerto specifically, oboe sounds better. However, I love the English Horn's sound more in almost every case and I am currently writing a large orchestral work that I want to use plenty of English Horn in.
Each has its advantages and disadvantages. The oboe sounds as if it has a cold in its head, while the English horn sounds as if it has a sore throat. They're both good to have around.
Both, both are good. The difference between the two is the fact that the Oboe plays higher sounds than the english horn, making it more suitable for sweeter and happier music, which is this tune for example.
The oboe is the smallest of the double reed instruments, so it has the highest notes. The english horn is slightly larger than the oboe, so it has a lower pitch. And then the two largest and lowest pitched double reed instruments are the bassoon and contrabassoon
i play both and like them for different reasons. i really love the melancholic energy of the English horn, but i enjoy the playing style and emotion of the oboe better (it's easier to do vibrato on it too in my opinion)
I love both of those instruments but, there is a subtle difference in sound and in my opinion I think the oboe has a happier melody than the English horn in this song.
I mainly play the oboe and love it very much, but if I get the chance I will always pick the English Horn. I just love it's sound, and it feels so nice to play :)
The baroque oboe of course. Not the modern one. Have you ever tried to play Vivaldi's Oboe Concerto in C Major with a baroque oboe? It is just one key for the low C and none key for the rest of the holes.

Okay, this a hard one. I play oboe and I’ve never had played English horn. Oboe will always be my fav BUT the English horn does sound amazing. They are both 50 50.
I play oboe and English horn (along with lots of other instruments- my main is clarinet) and I love both of them so this is hard 😅 I think it depends on the piece and in this case I prefer oboe, though it sounds a bit airy
Both sound like they would be used for children cartoons and I love it also I like how you actually played the same things most people play different things for each instrument and we can’t compare them
Hay Zeke. Dose the English horn Bocal change the general pitch? Will the pitch move a half step up if I use a shorter Bocal or half pitch lower if I use a longer one?
Yeah it can! The longer the bocal the flatter it can get. The shorter the sharper. I’m not entirely sure how sharp or flat the pitch can change but that’s generally the rule of thumb.
Oboe: Hello!
English Horn: Oh good morning my good sir God save His Majesty!
It's an ENGLISH horn XD
Both are some of my favorite orchestral instruments. The timbre of the English horn is what makes it my favorite out of the two.
Yeah, I do appreciate the few English Horn solos composers give us. They are a special treat!
Isn't it literally the same instrument?
@@ОлегБобров-в7ъno as the cor anglais is more suited for lower notes whilst the oboe is more suited for its higher notes
@@ОлегБобров-в7ъnot really
Oboe is in band, unless it's different for you
oboe is definitely my favorite, but the english horn sounds so cool
Yeah I love them both too!
Beep (same)
English horn reminds me of if a bassoon and a oboe had a child
Yeah I can see that 😂
Worth listening to the lupophone.
So.. the flute and the clarinet had a child, the oboe and the bassoon was adopted then the oboe and bassoon had child and it was the English horn.. LOVELY
@@Rose_Slays_Yippee_RAHHHH I like how the bassoon was adopted like its parents were just like f**k this shit we’re trying again LOL

That’s a great way to describe the differences.

English horn is my second fav double reed, but Bassoon is my favorite double reed.
As a clarinetist, I like the English Horn very much. It has more depth and resonance though is harder to project from what I've seen.
As a general rule - Lower = Better
Ur a brass arnt you
Ain’t no way 💀💀💀
Such a horrible take

Prefer oboe
But both are an integral part of my life
Agreed!

Zeke, you are the king of both.Bravo.😉
Thanks Sinan!
I really like the sound of English horns
Both sound pretty nice
Oboe, of course!
The english horn definitely sounds like something that would play at the Renaissance festival
both are beautiful and unique ❤
I concur!
The English Horn! BUT- Damn kid... you are wonderful!!!!
Thanks!
Oboe sounds super bright, but the English horn is like smoooth
Both have a beautiful sound. Each one in its paper. But I, particularly, love the oboe. ❤
I like both of them
i already play violin, clarinet and flute but man do I love the oboe
both sounds are beautiful ❤️😎
Oboe I’m actually playing the oboe in my middle school band
Cool!
Imma go with cor anglais on this one
Honestly, I really like the lower tome of the English horn
Oboe piece reminds me of Donald and Douglas’ theme from Thomas the tank engine
THE CONTRA BASSOON - should had one of those behemoths off to the side to drag on screen
English horns in my op are better, bc I love lower sounds it's making somewhat calmer sounds
I love both of those instruments but, there is a subtle difference in sound and in my opinion I think the oboe has a happier melody than the English horn in this song.
I prefer the oboe but they both sound so nice.
They are both awesome ❤️
English horn sounds a lot like a bassoon
Kinda! You should hear the heckelphone.
English horn because it can work so well in a duet with a piano
for this, the oboe. in general, the English horn
English horn for jazz oboe for concerts and stuff that’s how I see it but in my opinion oboe
I like alto version the oboe d’amore it sounds very nice
I want to learn the English horn, I already know oboe but I think English horn is more fun
I mainly play the oboe and love it very much, but if I get the chance I will always pick the English Horn. I just love it's sound, and it feels so nice to play :)
It sounds like the oboe and alto saxophone and a baby! But I love them both!
*Maybe im being biased because im an Alto Sax 😂*
The Oboe, no doubt! In my opinion. 😊
Real question is, why would anyone play the English horn when soprano sax exists 🙃
I think that the oboe and the english horn both sound the same
Why choose? Both are amazing!
True!
I’m partial to the oboe, as my son is starting on his 5th year playing it. 😊
They both sound like scotland.
The baroque oboe of course. Not the modern one. Have you ever tried to play Vivaldi's Oboe Concerto in C Major with a baroque oboe? It is just one key for the low C and none key for the rest of the holes.
Yes, but it too difficult for my level on Baroque oboe.

Though I LOVE both instruments, I have to go with oboe
It sounded so similar to Brazil's independence anthem
English 100% my style
I love both ❤
I love oboe so I’m going with oboe here
By far the oboe
Me studying for a critical listening test
Definitely the oboe for me!! I really love the oboe, sure love playing mine!! Xxxx
Oboe, because I play it, you also hold your fingers really high above the keys, which is impressive
Thanks!

English horn all the way ( kinda easy option as a bassoon player )
As an oboist I like the English horn better.
I like the oboe better.
The English horn is giving Christmas vibes
For this song fs the oboe but for slow songs English horn fs
Both its good❤❤❤❤
well, imho and based on the overtones it would be the english horn.
Both2
Oboe❤
cor anglais was designed to be the best instrument, can't be beat
The Hecklephone!
English horn sounds like a bassoon an octave higher
english..not a big fan of oboes but i do think they are cool instruments!
the reed version of violin and viola😫😫🤣
Are you playing on handmade or commercially made reeds?
Handmade reeds!

This makes me want an english horn
I prefer the English horn because it isn't as bright as the oboe.
I play oboe!!!
I have it rn and playing it :3
Oboe for me ❤
I would chose the oboe over the English horn. However, I would choose the soprano saxophone over either of those.
For me it's oboe
The English horn looks like an oboe with an bassoon bocal
U know it kinda is when u think abt it, even tho it's it's own instrument
The oboe has a richer tone and the English horn has more of a raspy tone kind of lke a sax. 😀
