Yes indeed thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast here in Tonbridge this afternoon, and as we wouldn't be under cover, we just can't go ahead. Of course we would need a dry day in order to get a decent audience anyway. Right now, it's chilly and will be very soggy later!! So disappointing, and everybody in the band is very fed up. Here's hoping that next weekend the weather will be brighter as we have another concert booked next Saturday. Xxx

My concert this afternoon with the wonderful West Kent Concert Band is going to be cancelled because of bad weather. Feeling very disappointed here, but anyway I've decided that I will stay home and practice my oboe and piano instead. Just gotta keep going!!!! Xxx

I watched an absolutely beautiful video here on TH-cam of a wind quintet playing "Peter and the Wolf" complete with narrator and animation. Oooooooh it was so gorgeous, and I love the oboe part!! Very difficult to play though, so I will have to spend more time on this. Difficult to play the lower register bit smoothly, trying to get my fingers round it!! Only the first time of trying so I will have another go later this week. Very exciting to be on this oboe journey, I'm such a lucky lady to have the opportunity to learn this gorgeous instrument!! I'm not in your league hun, just a 59 year old lady who is purely amateur playing for fun, but living the dream nonetheless!! XXX

I got my oboe out again today, and I actually took the plunge and had a go at Grade 5 scales for the first time!! Very scary, but I thought I needed to challenge myself, and I managed to do D minor 2 octaves and B minor 2 octaves, F minor 2 octaves. Still finding that my top register notes from A to top D are a bit squeaky, trying to relax and not tense up so they come out more clearly. I also had a lovely clarinet practice today, so a lovely musical day all round!! Here's to more tomorrow. Concert Band rehearsal tomorrow night and first summer concert next Saturday afternoon!! Feeling mega excited here, I can tell you!!!
