    Fun fact: that walkoff homerun by the rays would’ve only been a homerun at Tropicana field

    For Cardinals fans, this was the culmination of over a month of anxiety which started with bring 10 games back in the wild card. Every damn game after Sept 1st felt like a playoff game where if we didn't win our season was over, and to see the Braves lead over us get smaller and smaller is something I wish every fan could experience at least once. And after all of this, we still had the postseason to play. The 101 win Phillies with that killer rotation and lineup, then the Brewers who had our number all year long, and of course Texas with that terrifying offensive lineup. God Damn. What a team, what a ride indeed.

      What's remarkable is that, at the beginning of September it looked like there would be NO exciting September baseball as it appeared all the division & wildcard races were practically locked up....but then for anyone who was paying attention, the wildcard races suddenly started peaking in interest; the Red Sox & Braves suddenly were playing lousy & the Cardinals & Rays suddenly kept winning games. With about a couple days left, you could sense that both wildcard races would go down to the wire. And they DID. Incredible. Those wildcard races helped preserve that 2011 season, which almost seemed rather mundane for most of that summer BEFORE September came around. Little did anyone know what was about to happen in September & October that year. 🙂

    I’m a huge Cardinals fan and in 2011 I was working for a St. Louis based aerospace company.
    The company had bought out a section of seats for Sunday Sept 11th and being it was the 9/11 anniversary my company was asked to give a representative to throw out the first pitch. It’s a long story but I was able to get that honor and it was the best day of my life lol! I’ll never forget that moment!
    Anyway my plants G.M. was a native of Atlanta and thus a huge Braves fan. We had been trading blows about our teams for WEEKS at that point.
    Obviously we are all aware of the sweep. On Monday morning since I was in production, I was at work a few hours before any office staff including the GM. I went around the whole plant and gathered up every broom I could find while was roughly 20+ big brooms and laid every one of them upright against his office door. 😂
    Fortunately for me my job haha, he was a good sport about it! However I did have to eventually return all the brooms back to their spots.😢

    As a Blue Jays fan, they'd already wrapped up their season earlier that afternoon so then I could settle back & watch how the wildcard races unfolded that night. Somehow, I think a lot of us felt that there would be some drama on that final night of the 2011 season...and even so, it STILL was one of the most thrilling nights ever for baseball. It made national headlines the very next day in fact. And then if that wasn't enough, the Cardinals took full advantage & went all the way to the World Series & defeated the Rangers( who'd beaten the Rays in the ALDS ). What a crazy final couple of months for baseball in 2011. Lots of fun though. 🙂

    Having to root for the Yankees to win a game has to be the most painful feeling for a Red Sox fan.
    Also can we just talk about how much this last win kind of cost the Phillies in the long term?
    If the Braves and Cardinals end up tied and play game 163, the Cardinals maybe lose that game or at minimum alters their pitching situation in the NLDS if they win. Could've altered the course of the series in Phillies' favor, maybe get another title. Also maybe Ryan Howard never injures his Achilles and speeds up the Phillies inevitable collapse they took over a decade to recover from

    I love that Kimbrel picture. Look at the board. It reminded me how insanely good he was before he was traded. 45 saves and 1.02 era!? That wasn't even an outlier, for his first hand full of years he was as dominating and as much of a shutdown closer as the game had ever seen. His stance when receiving the signs had to intimidate the hitters. I still remember the day the Braves traded him it was right around the day they broke my heart and traded Heyward and I gave up on watching them for a while.

    Nights like this one is why I am really glad that the league expanded its playoff field.
    And this wasn't the only one - this year, (for example) without it, how many games are rendered moot once we hit Labor Day?
    It's down to the wire and we still have a lot of very meaningful games.
    I like it!

    • @dogeatdogworlditis
      @dogeatdogworlditis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nights like these in 2011 are why you SHOULDN’T expand the playoffs. I’d much prefer very good teams potentially fight for fewer postseason spots. Now it’s too watered down and I don’t pay attention to the regular season anymore.

    • @gracielynn9623
      @gracielynn9623 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I look at it from a different perspective. By giving us the playoff format that we have now the last day isn’t quite as exciting anymore. In this scenario can’t happen anymore. It also makes the playoffs less prestigious because they’re easier to get into.

    If only the 2012 Braves had played in Yankee Stadium that "infield fly" would have been a game tying home run. (That's my comment on both the ridiculously stupid call by the ump and how it's a bit unfair how MLB allowed such short porches (combined with normal low fences) to be built only in the Yankees Stadium. I was at that game and to this day I truly believe the umpire who as you know only are added to the outfield in post season games completely forgot he wasn't at the normal spot in the infield because there is no other excuse. Afterall that rule was implemented to keep infielders from letting easy pop ups fall to throw out multiple runners and that one was so far out they couldn't have possibly thrown anyone out.
