1:17 It revs so fast through 1k to 6k RPM they made it take up just an 1/8th of the space on the rev counter. WHAT KIND OF SAVAGERY IS THIS MACHINE! Incredible.
For sure one of the most beautiful sport prototype, the Ferrari 312 P Barchetta was built by Ferrari in 1969 in order to race in the Group 6, where engines couldn't exceed a cylinder capacity of 3 litres. The car is moved by a 3.0 liter V12 engine which produces 450 bhp at 10,800 rpm. In this video the car is driven by David Franklin. #ferrari #ferrari312 #ferari312p #ferrari312pberlinetta #classic #motorsport #davidfranklin
The Ferrari 312P is as glorious and jaw dropping as when I first saw it as a kid in 1969 on TV tearing round Brands Hatch race track. This is arguably The #1 Ferrari that probably has the word *beautiful* in the same sentence more than any other Ferrari ever. The profile and sound this machine makes is from another dimension of existence.
Not sure youngsters today realize the impact a car like this had on youngsters of 1964; 56 years ago it was. This car, and the Porsches were so out of this world, so "modern" so different from just a few years prior to that. To put in perspective, if we subtract the same 56 years from 1964, we arrive in 1908, when cars were essentially horse carriages with a tiny steam engine attached to the front.
I received this model as a gift (remote-controlled scale model, high quality) in 1970... I was born in 1964. I still remember the emotion that I had and that I had while playing with it. It is a true timeless masterpiece. I think they took a lot of inspiration from that in 2006 when they created the unique 675 p4/5 model for American James Glickenhaus. Another masterpiece and certainly one of the most beautiful cars ever created.
That’s exactly how I envision time and technological progress, It surprises what you find making temporal comparisons like that. The differences between technological advances in different eras over similar same time span is sometimes staggering. I think it takes just a few critical discoveries and inventions to enable a whole tsunami of rapid advances in spin-off technologies and applications. Those key enabling discoveries enable whole new ecosystem and so much quicker with each successive generation that life as you know it changes before your eyes.
A truly beautiful car. Thank you for the video, and thank you for the detailed description. A mini car videos of posted and nothing is written about them. I'm glad you took some time and described it in detail. It gives us the history of the car which makes it very enjoyable.
One of the best ever looking racecars. Love the sound and the specs too, it looks really fast on video. So imagine how it must be when driving it. Magnificent video :)
in the near future we all will be driving in electric cars, but none of those will be connected to our hearts like these cars are with their gorgeous look, power and sound! I adore each of this monsters from the past!!
Basically a rebodied gp car. Raced at Lemans in 1969 but an accident put at least one out on the first lap and I think the other succumbed to mechanical problems. What a look though, and that sound!
Were there ever any cars better looking than sports racers of that era? Mind you, Group C up to the 90s produced some amazing looking cars too. It's all gone downhill now same as everything else ... :(
AndreiTupolev I wouldn't say, it is going downhill. Sure the looks are lacking, but that's mostly because they kind of found the perfect shapes for the specific rules. And those shapes aren't these nice clean rounded shapes without wings etc.
Your kinda right, the looks of the car have gone to shit these days, but the power and the handling of the cars has defenitely inproved over the years, but I still do prefer a 60's race car :)
Function over form now really. Most European tracks were high speed courses (Le Mans, Spa, Monza, Reims, etc.) And since downforce was uncharted territory, tear drop design was still the thing, thus why these master pieces stand out in that era. Group B was good looking, but allowing them to use venturi tunnels the sizes of caves, and the fact that up until 1990, Le Mans didn't have chicanes down the straight, they still needed a slippery body.
The sixties were the best time for sports- and racecars. They were honest, pure, relativly simple (compare to today) live was easy and simple, no smartfones no aids no tourist industry, no plastic surgery. All what you could see and feel was natural and so one... These times are gone and will never come back... Farewell good times
Might be kinda late but this sounds like a more full bodied hybrid F1 with less turbo woosh when at redline. This parallel explains why I don't understand the hate on F1's V6s and at the same time just how much I absolutely adore the Colombo V12. Reccomendation after three years. Well done TH-cam algorithm.
Ciao 19bozz92 Bel video e anche presente anche io a questa bella manifestazione a Monza, dovrebbero fare più spesso queste giornate con ingresso libero ai box, attirano tante persone. Franco

That's not why. It's because the motor won't spend any time down there when on track, it's out of its powerband.
