It'.s that air cooled configuration on the 917 that adds that extra sound. The water cooled engines sound slightly muffled even with straight pipes as in the 312 and 512 Ferraris. Heard the entire Ferrari team idle past while practicing for the 1969 Sebring 12 Hours They were all blipping their engines to keep the plugs clean. Gave me chillbumps
Respectfully disagree. The 312PB is one of the best sounding vintage engines to me. The raspiness on downshifts is amazing! I find the 917s more smooth and not as angry sounding, like a flattened out sound.
I am so happy for the fact that you have a TH-cam channel with such good footage and sound. You are doing gods work for us car lovers. For all of us, thank you very very very much!
Christian Arreguin I'm a sucker for the V6 Twin Turbo 80's F1 cars myself, love that clank noise as the gear box is getting pulled so hard into the next gear, an that turbo lag sound, a thing of beauty...!
If only our current day cars didn't have monotone engines that barely make any noise and actually had more than 500 HP at the engine. This os real racing with real variety. It truly shows driver potential and skill when completely varied cars can race together on the same track without one completely dominating. I love it.
Can we all admit that open throat carburetor 12 cylinder engines are the best sounding engines ever? It never gets old. Porsche, Ferrari, Matra, Alfa, etc all had epic sounding 12 cylinder engines. Boxer or V.
@@SimsonTuningteamOberlausitz Don't start with that V12 bullshit. It is horizontally opposed, there's no bloody vee anywhere! Crank pin location doesn't change the cylinder layout! There are various crank pin spacings on V6 and V8 engines but that doesn't change their vee shaped cylinder positioning or what they're called.
@@deaddoll1361 that shows me that you´ve got a lot to learn about engines :D If you don´t kno the difference between a V and a Boxer you should go back to school
These cars sound is absolutely wonderful, especially compared to the engines sound of nowadays cars, which is totally ridiculous for racing cars. But the Porsche 917 beats all of them. Fantastic!
Ferrari 312 and Porshe 917 sound nice. Do you have any footage of a Ferrari 333SP, now that is one of the most awesome sounding cars ever created, pure electronic V12 power, absolute squealer...!
Yeah he does. There is a search bar on his channel's home page, type 333SP, hit enter, and it comes right up. And you're absolutely right, the 333SP sounds wicked!
Iamwarthog ah cheers, I never knew that was there. Oh yeah, that 333 SP is something special alright. Man I love that kind of electronic V12 sound, it's beautiful...! I think the 333 SP won Le Mans, I'm not 100% but I think I heard it before, maybe 1998, around then.
It's quite a great experience but what I love the most of these engines is standing a few meters away during the start up and the warm up. Sometimes it seems that even the earth is trembling and not just you XD
The truth about these cars is their fragility and incredible cost of running them is simply incredible. Adore Ferrari but fragile, temperamental beautiful cars. A very rich man’s game.
How loud is this porsche 917 compared to a r8 lms ultra or to an trans am car, this are the car that are in my country, maybe a 917 will never come, so i want to know a reference to know how loud it is please
Anarchy Truck Pulls If you are being serious, you would probably have to contact a machine shop and have them make a flat 12 to the specifications of one of these older ones... They aren't used in modern cars and classics are hard to come by, therefore making one is your only option...
la 917 qui remonte dans les tours !!!! et quand elle lache les gaz pour retrograder... the best sound for ever mais ferrari 512 plus fluide pour 1 5l aussi
Porsche have built some of the best ever reliable race cars but if you read reviews of the Cayenne it’s not good. My point is why can Porsche not translate the race motors to the Cayenne in particular? Fair question?
I should have enough room in my legacy Wagon for this in the back. problem is, I only be able to get at least a thousand miles out of it before it blows the fuck up.
modern gt and prototype may be technically advanced and 'faster' but it's missing that element of danger and the driver skill is less obvious than in these old, analog death traps. real men's men these pilots were
RegalCooper Flat 12 definitely sounds a bit more raspy and guttural. V12s have more of that piercing scream. Low RPM they sound relatively similar, but it's at the top end of the RPM range you can hear the difference.
watching this made me realise just how shit and soulless modern cars are . whether its f1 or endurance or road cars . i dont care if a laferrari has 963 bhp . a ferraris engine has always been its heart . a laferrari has a heart but with a battery pacemaker fitted . its just not the same . give me a daytona or a 512 bb any day .
All of these sound wonderful, but the 917 is on a whole other level. That thing sounds like a true mechanical symphony.

Air Cooled 917

Agree!...the symphony of sound from a magical era!...👏🏻😌🏁🌟
917k downshifts sounds like the worlds ending
@@355Owe the car that drove like a truck🤣
Lovely, all of them. But hearing the 917, is indeed a real treat...
That blue and white Porsche 917 sounds the best
these and straight sixes are the classic sound of race cars.
Christian Arreguin I'm a sucker for the V6 Twin Turbo 80's F1 cars myself, love that clank noise as the gear box is getting pulled so hard into the next gear, an that turbo lag sound, a thing of beauty...!
Those Times, when Racecars have great Engines inside....
Those downshifts from a flat12 is so brutal. Absolutely love the car.
All these sound amazing but the 917 is on another level especially when it rev matches.
Really so beautiful 917 K, THE LEGEND ! thanks for that ! It's another time , yes , but so real and so amazing !
No problem at all!
A Symphony of Sounds!
Thank you for bringing these awesome classics to TH-cam!
No problem! It's a pleasure for me
Nothing compares 2 the sound of an uncapped 12 cylinder...total ear candy 🍬
damn that 917 #48 is killin it!
I thank you so much for not fading out the next second when the car is behind a corner, or something! You worship the sound and i love it!
No problem and really glad you liked that
Those 312PB downshifts are too good to be true...
Anger Management! 👍
Wow, listen to that Porsche 917. I get goosebumps at 1:27 :-)

once again you deliver Bozzy, great job, thank you very much for posting!
Thanks a lot!
917 was by far the best
Would love to see some sauber c291 tho, that thing sounds out of this world
Search it up, there’s a few videos. Sounds unique but you’ll like it if you like flat-12s
the amazing thing is that these engines were designed for performance not sound yet they still sound fantastic
The 917 Is indeed on a whole other level it is and always will be my absolute favorite of all times
That gorgeous supersaw sound of perfect primary, secondary and tertiary balance.
Supurb editing and footage Bozzy! By far the best video you've ever done by a country mile! P.S that Porsche sounds phenomenal!!!
Thanks a lot for your comment!!
I wasn't expecting there to be such a satisfying ending. Great work!
You have the best assortment of cars on your channel. I love it!
Thanks!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Flat 12! Such lovely melody yet so aggressive too! Wonderful video again, Bozzy!
That is the best sounding music on the planet. Thank you so much. I have 500watts I run this through and it's marvelous.
Another excellent video Thank you for sharing
No problem! ;)

This is how my Heaven looks like :) Thanks for upload!
Lovely sounds and awesome racecars! Thanks Bozzy!
You're welcome!
Flat engines have the best sound of all engines.

Amazing, Wonderful.... ! ❤❤
It sounds reminiscent to a V12, only a lot more rough and with some added grunt
phwoar!!!!! i only wish i could hear it in person
These cars sound is absolutely wonderful, especially compared to the engines sound of nowadays cars, which is totally ridiculous for racing cars. But the Porsche 917 beats all of them. Fantastic!
Driver in the 917 loved over revving on the downshift.
Goosebumps skin...
Great video. I noticed the concrete seating at Monza. Do they still use them? They seem to be overgrown by weeds and very old.
Thank you! Yes they're still using them but they just cut the grass the week before the F1 GP
Cool Thanks!
Probably built by the Romans
I’m a Ferrari 512 fan but that 917 is something else

Apologies it was American Racing where it done all its winning, 6th in 1997 was best Le Mans result.
I can cry just watching this video, but how does it feel to be there? Feeling the sound going through your chest and smelling the burnt racing gas?

But I reckon it sounds even better in the gulf colours
12 electric motors just will not be the same
Alfa has a Ferrari engine then? I still think the 512 LM is a great looking thing.
AndreiTupolev Ferrari makes engines for Maserati too
Yes that Alfa has the 3.0-litre Ferrari engine
