I am a middle-aged female doing the DIY stuff. Out of all the videos that I've seen, this has got to be the most detail oriented. Clear to understand specific how to floor video that I have seen. Putting the flooring against the wall instead of spacers is brilliant. After struggling for a day, trying spacers, and shims, nothing worked! Came across your video and wow! Couldn’t wait to try your suggestion. It worked perfectly. We also realized the Mohawk vinyl flooring was not going together well, like the flooring you put down. Returned it to Costco, bought Lifeproof, and yippee! It was so easy! Thank you soooo much. My hubby and I are 68 and 77 years old. With your help, we did it ourselves!

Okay, I've looked at several installation videos, and embarked upon installing this product as a flooring newbie.
About halfway through my start-point, in a smallish bedroom, I was really having difficulty with the boards lining up perfectly, and without any gaps (where even a half mm gap starts to cause problems)!
I had assumed that once you "lock" down the ends with the mallet, that was IT--they were "locked" in place! You VERY helpfully show, around the 19 minute mark, how AFTER you mallet them down, you CAN still whack them tighter together with a scrap piece, which effectively removes even a hairline gap.
That was SUCH a helpful and crucial tidbit of information, so THANK YOU so much--kudos!

FYI - you should have included ‘what to do on the last plank’ if you can’t use the full width on the plank, and end up with a space of an inch or so to fill. I usually measure the room and if I am going to have that problem, I would start off with a 1/2 wide plank for the first run.

Hey Jason, great video! I recently went through a similar experience installing LifeProof vinyl flooring in my living room. Like you, I found it super easy to work with, especially the click-lock feature that made aligning the planks straightforward.
One tip I learned was to make sure the subfloor is completely clean and level before starting. I had some debris under mine that caused a few planks to not sit perfectly, which I had to fix mid-installation. I also used spacers, just like you mentioned, to maintain that quarter-inch gap from the wall-definitely made a difference in the long run.
I appreciate how you showed the cutting technique using a T-square; that's something I struggled with initially. I found that using a utility knife for scoring and snapping worked well, but for thicker pieces, a jigsaw was necessary. Just be careful with your cuts around door jams-it can get tricky!
Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences! It really helps to see someone else tackle this project. Looking forward to more of your renovation updates!

THANK YOU!!! My husband has been trying to learn the best way and I couldn’t find a video starting with “This is easy… “ and proceeding to flip out fast, non detailed instructions with mega power tools that truly left me throwing this project under “Let’s just keep procrastinating…” lol.
Thanks much for the easy tool list, scrap tips and detailed project instructions without just talk without action for the first half of the video!
    Going to Home Depot now….🙂

Omgosh! This was THE BEST how to install plank flooring I have come across! I have never installed flooring so I have no idea what I am doing but this was extremely easy to follow, it made complete sense and has some excellent tips that I will use. Seriously a HUGE THANK YOU for doing this video!!!

My contractor made it out to be way harder than it needed to be and then stopped showing up so I am now doing my floors by myself and this video made me feel way better about getting it done right so thank you for this great video.

I have found it very difficult to get a tiler so I decided to do our basement extension in vinyl planking. Thanks for the pointers. April 14, 2024, Lethbridge Alberta Canada.

Great video. Two tips I have not seen elsewhere: 1) lifting the prybar to "click" the under-the-door-jamb piece into its channel; and 2) using a few of the pieces along the wall as a 1/4 inch "spacer". Both are better than using the two tools they sell for these two purposes (the hammer on pullbar technique for the jamb piece and the little spacers they sell in packs).

I really want to thank you for making this video! Exactly what I was looking for since my husband and I want to save some money on installing the Life Proof flooring ourselves in our new home. Very informative and the demonstration was on point.

Excellent video instruction. Now I will have to try this as my wife has been asking for this to be done for 9 years on our upstairs rooms in the house that we built 10 years ago.

Thanks for a very helpful video. My only comment is when I used my pry bar to snug up that last plank, I had to use a piece of scrap flooring to protect the sheetrock.

This is one of the best guiding videos I have watched for this projects. The close ups were super helpful and the fact that you went slow enough for me to not have to rewind and watch a hundred times. I of course will watch parts of it again and again before I start my basement floor.

great video. v helpful. my only recommendation would be to mix up the different packages of floor planks so as to not have patches of similar coloring in the patterns. same as you do with paint - mix up the different batches for continuity. 👍🏽

I use a carbide cutter that's used with Laminate and Formica. Works much better than a utility knife. That will kill your hands after a few cuts and it will also become dull very fast. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. :-)

Outstanding video, Jason! My wife and I plan to use the same flooring in our house. Just a tip for others regarding the flooring in the bathroom. This stuff is waterproof and can be run straight into the bathroom and there are no grout lines to deal with. I hope your PCS went well and the new duty station agrees with you and your family.

Your video was just what I needed. Getting into DIY, getting ready to lay down my vinyl flooring in my new workshop that was constructed out on my deck. Typical wooden deck, really nice, but obviously the openings leave it open to moisture, bugs, etc. Vinyl flooring was recommended, along with 6mm plastic sheeting underneath, and the Lowe's guy even gave me a sort of demo/lesson in the store. This was ideal; thanks!

Thank you for the info, I’ve noticed hardly anyone covers measuring the floor so that we don’t end up with a very thin piece at the end; not such a big deal but it would help. I tend to measure 10 boards to give me an exact length, then I measure the floor and find out where I am going to end, if too thin, then I cut a piece off the starting row so that I have at least half of three-fourths width. Thank you again, your video helped me a lot.

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I just lay the boards out for one row and se what it will leave me with. If the end piece is too short, I would adjust my first board.

Agree. I've seen videos where they are making all kinds of measurements and using chalk lines and such, and about that time I'm pretty much lost. Here, he just gets down to business. My concern, though, is that if you don't do some kind of measurement, you may be left with a narrow strip of flooring at the other end of the room.
