This is a humorous criticism of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier in which the forced humor of the movies is highlighted by adding a laugh track. #startrek #comedy
Star Trek V was actually the first Star Trek movie I ever saw as a kid. This laughtrack mashup highlights why I liked these parts so well… it was really humor on a level that I as a child could get into … on a kid level.
*People in the movie theater actually did laugh out loud when Spock popped up, cliffside, with his jetpack boots.* We didn't need any prompt, it was just stupidly funny. A goof, a self-parody.
Yeah, I remember watching this in the theater and it felt like I was watching Rescue From Gilligan's Island on CBS. "It's nice to see them all together again but god this is corny"
Personally, I thought that the laugh track was a perfect edition to the movie scenes, you always have one in your group who misses or doesn't get the joke, or worse yet can't understand and wants you to explain, now you can tell to just laugh along with the movie and that will give them time to catch up and comprehend what is going on!!! William Shatner is many things. Actor. Comedian (kinda). Singer (well, “speaks lyrics while song is playing”, really). Canadian. Real-life astronaut (sort of). But one of those things is not “director”…
To be fair there were things that went wrong with the movie that were out of his control. I believe there was a writers strike at the time that affected the movie's production as well as a newer effects house that over promised on what they could deliver.
Very good attempt at the terminology: Shatner is indeed a "song-speaker" by trade. My collection of his "music videos" long ago exceeded two hours in length; I actually gave him a VHS copy of him performing "A Very Good Year" from 1968 back when he was out promoting "Shoot Or Be Shot"). It never struck me til now, though, that 5:09 is (to the best of my knowledge) the only recorded example of him *actually singing!*
@@KenLieck By "5:09 the only recorded example of him actually singing!, you do mean as in Star Trek movies or TV Shows; right? William has released 7 studio albums, 1 Live album, & 9 singles (singles or EPs). As a solo artist. In addition, is on album with other cast members, & an album with him & Nimmoy doing some duets, & some solo tracks each. Shatner first album of Sprechgesang (it does have a "loan" word name, in English) / speak-singing was Transformed Man released in 1978. In all, Shatner appears on 23 albums (some are live &/or compilations), plus on some other artists, or show/s recording(s). See Discogs site & Wikipedia Shatner appeared on a number of Tonight type/Variety shows, well before, & after release of that LP. Can find couple clips on youtube. I knew Bill had released LPs & singles, long before I got into music biz. Both his speaking style & his sprechgesang used to parodied & sent-up a lot
This reminds me of current Disney channel "live action comedies," where every other spoken line dissolves into Canned Laughter. Next up: "Star Trek IV: Laughing All the Way Home..."
What is lovely about ST5 was the camaraderie and friendship of the Enterprise crew, obviously due to the years they spent together. The plot however sunk the movie, but the comfort of old friends make these parts really standout.
With a laugh track added, this movie would have had great reviews!! Brilliant editing. This video link should be sent to Shatner. He has a big sense of humor, from what I hear.
when they fall down the cliff you need to make spock change into a superman outfit, mid flight. Spock (to Kirk) "I've got you!" (Kirk to Spock): "you've got me??? who's got you???" (in the words of Margot Kidder, Lois Lane).
I saw Alien3 in a budget cinema in Las Vegas, being british and seeing a lot of brit actors in a horror movie i expected the US audience to treat the movie with the same level of gravitas as i would.... How wrong was I... Alien3 would benefit from a laughter track so you could see what i experienced 😂
God I miss going to the theater to see the new Star Trek movies with the original cast. I didn't want them to end. This is funny but also extremely depressing. I loved all of them. Never really cared about The Next Generation, DS9, Voyager or anything else.
This is hilarious, but how could they leave out the stupidest part, namely Scotty going "I know this ship like the back of my hand" and then BONKing his head on a bulkhead.
35 years later, "Row, row, row your boat" still takes me firmly out of the film. I LOVE your laugh track. Perhaps the film would have been better received back in 1989 with a laugh track. LOVE THIS
The people who should be laughed at are the studio teams who sabotaged what could have been a much better film. Between parts of Shatner's original story being gutted by censors, and the finance people constantly cutting his budget (two things that thankfully never plagued Leonard Nimoy), it's a wonder he had any movie left by the end at all. Granted, this is still Bill Shatner's writing, so there would have been some campiness involved no matter what; but it could have been so much better. I also get the distinct impression that those responsible for sabotaging Shatner were fired before Star Trek VI started production.
Shatner's best work was with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens filtering and refining his ideas. It's why the "Shatnerverse" Star Trek novels are so thoroughly enjoyable.
I don't get the hate for this movie. There were sine fantastic character moments, which is just as important as flashy effects. At the time watching it in the cinema, the 'live audience' laughed along with the humorous moments
I agree, and I've fixed it for the next one I'm doing. It was my first time editing together something like this, and being hearing impaired doesn't help. 😁
“Star Trek 5 was filmed in front of a live studio audience!”
Yeah, they were all given jet boots! 😅
yeah well the film crew is that audience....so it's true
That worked surprisingly well !
I never realized Star Trek 5 was missing something till now. 🤣

I always thought the laugh track was implicit.😁
But what does God need with a Starship?
audience: (butthead voice from SvenGoolie)
"uhhh...I dunno."
The wild applause whenever there’s any shot of the Enterprise is even funnier to me than the laugh breaks.
I did not think I needed this. I most definitely needed this.
It’s just like watching Big Bang Theory or The IT Crowd.

Yes he is...just not a good one.
Yeah, I dont think thats quite fair. He had alot working against him.

I LOVE THIS!, Please do some more!
Nicely done!!! I expected that laugh track to be wildly out of place and it wasn't. I'm not even a hater of this film.
This made it better, haha.
I never thought this possible, it actually made Star Trek V watchable.
8:50 I was today years old when I realized the Admiral's uniform is flipped.

Sadly, this is a VAST improvement. Someone please get a laugh track in for the whole movie. I would actually watch this repeatedly.
It’s almost as if it’s June 9, 1989 again, and I’m hearing an audio recording of the audience I saw this with.
"Next up, on a Very Special Episode of Deep Space Nine..."
This was great, i enjoyed it a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it
"I liked him better before he died" gets me every time
Not the cut we wanted, but the cut we needed

There's even gaps in dialogue for the track. It's like this was planned all along.
Love it! Not a big fan of laugh tracks, but this makes Star Trek V watchable. Do more!! Much more.....
That was a good one.

If Star Trek were a sitcom, it would be like this!
Laugh tracks are SO annoying. But in this case it worked well.
Scotty : I know this ship like the back of my hand. *BONK!*
That has to be in part 2
Part three
Uhura could have easily determined their location and had them beamed up from anywhere
OMG, this works so well.
Which they would show was the part in the turbo shoot.
You fixed it!!!
This is wrong on so many levels 😂😂😂
This laugh track should be done with all the trek movies
I am shocked at how this totally works. Great remix!
Glad you like it!

It felt like watching “That 70’s Show”….don’t;t know why that one came up?

It's coming

The laughs of the many outweigh the laughs of the few.
Wow ... well done. Next think you know, they'll do musical Star Trek....
That was gonzo! Inspired insanity.
A bit over the top, but the round of applause for the Enterprise-A was a nice touch.
She's a legend.
I Thourght that they where going to do Funny Voice ' s for the Crew Dam ;
Perfect!
This is the worst thing I've ever seen, and therefore the best thing I've ever seen.
Love it

I remember that rock climb scene so well when this came out. That's pretty much when I left the theater. This movie was horrendous.
Wow, that was the point you walked out? So you've never really seen it.
@@jaredloveless That's all that I needed to see. Unfortunately, I can't unsee it.
This was too funny
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain…why is he climbing a mountain?
Because it is there.
comedy gold!
Hahaha this is perfect
That was great 👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Wow! Hahaha
What the hell is a marshmellon?
It's what you get when you plant a marshmellon seed.
The timing and intensity of the laughs is perfect but it’s all too loud. Even the worst tv laugh tracks aren’t this loud.
I agree, and I've fixed it for the next one I'm doing. It was my first time editing together something like this, and being hearing impaired doesn't help. 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Actually some lines are funny
The fact that this works so well as a common sitcom shows just how cringe and terrible the writing had become, sadly.
Ha ha. Nice!
Oh my!!
It needed a Laugh track...biggest flop in Trek Cinema History
This is terrible (laughs)
Wrath of Khan was the best. The rest were so-so, or poor.
It's not easy creating a good script. Perhaps they should look to fan fiction for a story.
Or one of the many great ST novels
What was wrong with Undiscovered Country?
Re edit this in 4x3 tv aspect ratio and you have a total winner.
Well done! Terrible movie.
This Horrible movie Works Better as a Bad sitcom!
Laugh track doesn't help. Still an awful movie.
it doesn't work, sorry
I'd forgotten how terrible this movie was.... I'll never forgive you for reminding me. 🫣
