@@erikcarp9359 Mazar had a bot that could join private games but not appear as a user so he was able to get a bunch of the other team’s teams and make cteams that literally had no way of losing. That SPL season has no official winner now since the Tigers won, and it also made showdown add the feature where you set it so that games get automatically privated (the bot would join in the time between the game started and that they would manually private it). This was also after he had already been banned for cheating and managed to convince tours staff that he was “reformed” LOL

Quick Attack + bird spam means that you can deal with both abra and foongus because Abra doesn’t have a sash and bird spam could at least do good damage (if not kill) to foongus. Gastly could be sacked and you’d still be able to win from that position (or drop scarf foo, as foongus walls that).

There is a Big difference between random battels and smogon tiers.

The meta I plaed the most is gen3 randombattles and I like the dynamic of it a lot.
I find it hard and a bit tedious to build and balance a team so I played mostly 1v1 and Randombattles.
But its ok to differ
despite getting into comp Pokemon in 2011, I never paid attention to the smogon hardcore competitive community. it seems like a whole other world, it's wild.

Smogon was always quite scuffed honestly. This tournament was crazy, but also the community around Smogon was always kinda strange, with CTC and his hype squad in the early ORAS scene. Definitely not ethical, but always fun to see nonsense. :)

zapdos got deemed bad by today's standards.
and swagger is still banned in gen 8, but it would be completly useless if unbanned due to the lack of abusers in the format since crit me not sweepers are now the exploitable thing in doubles team building....

Long story short - Player for the Tigers used a bot to get full information on opponents teams and sets, then used it to help himself/teammates perfectly counter team said opp.

A player used a computer programm to collect all of his opponents testing matches as replays and the used that data to create perfect counter teams.
He also used that bot to help out his teammates by using it on their opponents and then suggesting sets to them.
In the end he got caught cause he bragged about it.

The "jerk" nature of Smogon extended way back to when I first stumbled upon the site in the Gen 4 era pre-Garchomp ban.
To this day I still maintain a dislike for the site as a sort of outsider who was looking in.

this jerk stuff seems pretty interesting. I had never really payed attention to the smogon forums so I don't really know how all all these top players are/were like. My best window into this world though was through watching idm/heatah fajita crew, whom I've watched pretty consistently since 2015, and was especially into them from 2016-2018, and am assuming were a part of this "jerk". I think that among the "general smogon/showdown playerbase" they really helped popularize certain terms like "heat" and "choked on dicks." Wonder if these kinds of terms coined by the heatah crew or were they actually already popular among "the jerk" and the heatah crew just spread it to a more casual audience. Or maybe I'm just completely wrong and the heatah crew wasn't that tied to the jerk.
I've also recently watched a heatah vid from around 2016 and noticed just how much more toxic everyone was, especially in the chat. Wonder if it was the heatah crew who really helped up the shit talking within the general tournament community, or if it was the general tournament community who influenced the heatah crew to be that toxic. I remember blunder making a video talking about toxicity on smogon and how someone told him that he was responsible for how toxic the playerbase, even on the ladder was. I didn't really believe it at the time but looking back at those vids, I definitely see how they might've influenced things. It was definitely quite the spectacle seeing how much shit they sometimes talked to their opponents and to each other, and how a lot of spectators would come to also talk shit in the chat, but that probably wasn't great for the community. Guess I'm just curious about the relationship between the heatah crew, the jerk, and toxicity on smogon/showdown as a whole
