    Everyone should just be aware of the insurance you mention that costs around £10 where some companies will send a replacement blind if anyone has measured the size incorrectly. What some companies do not mention is that the customer has to pay the postage cost of returning the blinds. Depending on the size of the blind this could cost up to £50. Best check this with the company before buying.

    I bought the same blind from Blinds To Go last July and it’s still in the box. My window is like yours with the handles and I just couldn’t work out how to put it up. You saved the day. Today, I thought I have to put that blind up, it’s driving me mad not having the privacy I need. Brilliant demonstration.
    Thank you.

      @@TheCarpentersDaughterUK does anyone know why it's much easier to pull down the blind than it is pulling up the blinds?

    wow these are really great. I want to replace my very expensive custom blinds with these "shades" as we call them. Much more usable. I could easily have all the light coming in with the mesh but nobody can see in, brilliant.

    I have a question for you :). How do you fill holes in a way that makes it structurally as good as new? Take the drill holes you made in this vid for example. If you wanted to fit a different type of blinds some day, you'd remove these ones and end up with holes where these screws used to be. You could fill them in with plaster to make a visually invisible filling, but plaster is weaker than brick, so if you need to drill close to the old holes for the new blinds ("close" meaning within one drill diameter), you'll find the drill bit pulls itself toward the old holes where all there is is weak plaster.
    Is there a way to fill drill holes that's as strong as the original brick and can be drilled without the bit wandering, and can bear loads as well as virgin brick? Maybe using cement?

  • @totherarf
    @totherarf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Most blinds come in a set series of sizes!
    You just need to make sure you measure the window the right way (height and width) and then cut the width down to size. It can be a bit tricky to get a nice cut the whole length ... and the central roll is usually steel so a decent hacksaw is good for that bit ;0)
    With that type it typically slots in one end and then slides the other with a plastic retainer, but some need to flex the bracket to allow this. Unfortunately this means you will not be able to fix into the side wall easily!
    There is also the added excitement with older houses where the window top is not at 90 degrees to the side! Of course if you have a modern PVC window you cant screw into that easily eather!

    • @ge2719
      @ge2719 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      would like to know this too. i'd imagine its entirely down to the fabric. Some sheer fabrics can still have a tight weave that wouldnt allow much airflow, while some will have a far more open weave thats more like a fly screen. Best to contact the blind company youre looking at and possibly order some samples.

    Love your videos, we just got a kitchen fitted and the guy wasn't as knowledgeable as we thought. Thanks to things I've picked up on your channel I was able to go in and "tell" him how to do certain things. We're going to be fitting wetwall ourselves, got any tips on doing that in a kitchen? Nice job-usually the Black out unit goes closest to the glass to provide better room darkening.I guess your using it as the decorative element so that also is fine as well.Generally-the blackout shade goes in the back as a “Regular roll” so the fabric is as close to the glass as possible and the front shade gets done as a”Reverse roll” to hide the exposed tube.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. That's a good point. Went to check the manufacturer's videos and all the other double roller videos and can only see them like this, but yes, I can imagine it being better!

      @@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I’m not trying to be ultra critical of your work-I hope it didn’t seem like that...I do custom window covering installation as a trade and I would only want to help anyone else looking to do the same project get the best result from that configuration.at the end of the day it all works- but if your objective is room darkening then the blackout shade really does a better job in the back.

      @@johnm5714 Hi John. I've been looking for something like these. I want the light filtering at the back in white and the blackout at the front in a charcoal colour (likely with a reverse roll sort of like a header? - not sure if they come with a valance). I don't really need room darkening - just need the privacy since I'm on the ground floor of a condo. I'm in Canada and not sure where to purchase at a reasonable price here.
