      As someone who has taken a robotics class he was trying to simplify for you. Going into Hamiltonian and laplacian systems along with chaos theory and non linear controls is too technical for cnet's audience. Hence why you didn't even understand why he stated what he did smh.

      I would disagree to that opinion, because Boston Dynamics Atlas robots work with hydraulics, which seems to be more agile at the moment, but it is also more error prone, because the system has very often hydraulics failures, ending in fatal crashes of the robots.
      A system build on electric motors is much more reliable.
      Also Atlas is a "dumb robot" which is preprogrammed and which is NOT capable of doing tasks on his own decisions, although Boston Dynmamics are working on robots since founded in 1992. Their software is not even close to Teslas humanoid Robot Optimus which is still in alpha development status and which is using the same software platform as their Full Self Driving Tesla vehicles. Correct recognition of the surrounding and navigation through that obstacles and objects and successfully manipulating objects in such areas is a very hard task for each robot manufacturing company. Time will show who is more succesfull. Probably in a few years we will be able to compare them better.

    • @Koroleva_O_A
      @Koroleva_O_A ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Compare their dog with a real and live one. The abyss. A real dog can adjust its speed, it can change the direction of movement, it classifies objects, it distinguishes objects, it is able to find a pack of cigarettes in the space of a square kilometer. A dog from Dynamics has no sense organs, it has no consciousness, it does not know how to take definitions, it does not have a position in one-dimensional space that turns an object into a subject. Therefore, Dynamics is not far away at all, what they do can be done by any student.

    • @IowaMan
      @IowaMan ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Ken_1971 I disagree, Atlas is still learning, and the hydraulic actuator systems they use will only get better. I don't know what you mean by being "preprogrammed". It's running an AI is still learning. it uses many sensors in its limbs and head. probably as much as a tesla vehicle now that the new models don't have nearly as much sensors.
      being frank here, teslas robot is embarrassing

    • @IowaMan
      @IowaMan ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@Koroleva_O_A
      wtf are you arguing bro, you're seriously inferring spot can't change speed, direction, classify or distinguish objects? dude it can do all those things

    • @Koroleva_O_A
      @Koroleva_O_A ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IowaMan I don't see it in the video. The speed and direction of movement of the animal are regulated by external signals, which have a value of. The magnitude of the signal sets the magnitude of the speed or the magnitude of the angle by which the animal evades. When moving in the coordinate space, the movement is reduced to the direction towards the stimulus or away from the stimulus. The robot's movement is not directional, it cannot be changed through the environment, therefore, the robot does not interact with the environment, it is not a source of commands (instructions) to regulate its own behavior.
      To separate something into a separate object is to give it a name and a value. The name will be associated with a reaction, this is some action that the robot performs. And the value determines the difference between the value of the robot and the value of the selected object. This value is incoming, it sets the reaction (the magnitude of the action, its intensity and duration). I don't see anything like that in the video. What I see in any animal or human as a variety of robots.
      This video is intended for those who do not know psychology, who do not know programming, and so on. They can be shown a humanoid robot that walks like a human, and delight is provided. But for a specialist, everything looks different. The robot does not do any of the things listed.

      It still exists and some tests are still being done with it but nothing compared to their initial phase. The Humanoid Robotics Project (HRP) was sponsored by Japan's Ministry of Economy to see the viability of general domestic helper robots, they weren't really trying to sell their own design, they were just trying to convince the private sector that it was indeed a truly possible goal.
      Even if they wanted to sell the HRP-4c, they likely would fail to find a market, since it costed around $2.5 million to develop and $200,000 per unit to build. It's a cool trick it's pulling off but $200,000 cool? I dunno lol

      @@benj8242 but is that 200,000 when it was built? Or present day price?
      I feel like 10 years of advancement could drive down the price no?

      @@rowshambow That was the price when it was built. I honestly wasn't even thinking about how time would've driven down the price and this is very likely to be true with the advancements and proliferation of technology. Although, I'm unfamiliar with the specific hardware utilized by machine itself so I'm unable to truly know if the parts used were really affected by this trend.

    Even though the end goal is noble, it doesn’t yet make any sense to try to create a general purpose humanoid robot : the technological pieces to achieve that are not there yet.
    However, remotely controlled humanoid robots makes much more sense : they could be somewhat autonomous for some tasks, and would benefit from the help of human conciousness when needed.
    That the way Waymo is doing their autonomous robotaxi : time to time, some remote human intervention to take decisions when the robotaxi doesn’t know what to do
