    Just bought a blue sport premium 2015 in 2020 here with really really low miles practically new. So far I love the car! Could use a little more get up and go but hey with mpg like this im not complaining. Has everything I need, all the creature comforts etc. Live in Minnesota here so i cant wait to take it out and see how it does in the winter. Id say this car wins for sure!

    Anytime I see a review for this car people are so critical in the comments. It's not an ugly car at all. The price and specs are similar to hatchbacks from other manufacturers but this has all wheel drive. The comment that says "why would you buy this when you could buy a base model Wrx for a similar price" amazes me. It makes no sense at all.

      Also a used WRX is like $22,000 where I'm at at a minimum unless you're getting a model 10 years old or so. Also I just bought a 2016 Imprezza limited for about $14,000 with only 60k miles. Very cheap for what you get.

    Great test drive! One thing, you don't have to put the car into manual mode to use the paddle shifters. You can operate them in regular drive mode. The CVT will switch back to automatic mode itself.

  • @ryankirshman5259
    @ryankirshman5259 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Having test drove a few of these, the CVT has come a long ways. With traffic ever increasing in my locale the paddle shifters let you play when you want with 6 "simulated" speeds, and slide over into D and let the drool drip out of the corner of your mouth when stuck in stop and go. Lower RPM's on the freeway= better mpg than the 5sp manual version. Yes it's no WRX, but a great all around commuter equipped for all four seasons that uses regular unleaded gasoline.

    I like the Impreza hatchbacks, but they tend to be updated much slower than the other Subaru's. It looks like a 2012 Legacy interior/exterior. I'd also LOVE to see a 2.5 engine in there for that extra power. It would be worth the hit on fuel economy and make the car that much more fun to drive.

  • @guyportmonteau5021
    @guyportmonteau5021 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    41.1 m.p.g. on the display was quite good, calculated might be a little less, the displays have variations. Imprezas are really substantial cars. Two test drives were convincing between a sedan and hatch version both with CVT's. Even the transmission is excellent, it's just different for many. It's the fuel economy that counts, but the traction of AWD, overall dynamics and solid feel, it's within a top 10. If cross-shopping it's easy to figure out all the Impreza has going for it and the whole Subaru line-up. Soon the company is making another shift, there's a new Impreza in the next two years, it's a consideration that should be worth waiting for.

    You mention how the rear legroom isn't all that impressive when in reality it's one of the best in the segment. You mention the corolla having better legroom, but it's literally the *only* one with better legroom. It's super roomy in the impreza AND the corolla, especially when you compare them to cars like the mazda 3 and ford focus.

    • @saadpandit4541

      It doesn't matter. My point was, I think he's misinforming people about the amount of rear legroom there is compared to alternative vehicles. It's a compact car, there isn't going to be much legroom to begin with regardless.

    If you get the chance, you should test the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport with the EyeSight. Subaru has really improved over the 2015 model. It's like a whole different car. It's still not fast with only four extra horses. However the faster steering ratio (same as the BRZ) and tuning of the CVT makes a remarkable difference.

  • @HeizoelWalther

    Hi Jason, what I'd really like to see in your videos is if you talk about fuel economy or torque data for example, it would be great if you'd put the numbers up on the screen and also add it in metric numbers aswell! :) And if you have a bit of money left, maybe get a better microphone. I think the sound in a video makes a huge difference ;) There's a comparison between some good studio mics on the LinusTechTips channel. Otherwise great content, keep it up! Regards from Germany

    After driving the Impreza for 6 months, the CVT is virtually unnoticeable. It's only obvious under hard acceleration.

  • @catsspat
    @catsspat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You just need to toggle & hold the control to change the cruise speed by 1 mph increments. So if you toggle it quickly, it goes up/down by 5 mph, but if you push it up/down and hold it, it'll change by 1 mph increments, until you let go.
    And the mpg calculated by the car is ALWAYS too optimistic on my car. On my car, it's off by 1.5-2.5 mpg. That 41+ number is still crazy good, though. I've never been able to get anything that high. Then again, my drives are either really short (7-10 miles) or really long and fast (I-15, I-5) going 75+ mph. I barely manage 30-31 mpg on those long 5+ hour drives, which is actually not that bad in my opinion.
    I have this model (2015 Impreza Sport Limited w/ EyeSight(TM)), by the way. Adaptive cruise ROCKS on those long drives!

    Could you possibly do a video where you briefly (if possible) describe pros and cons of some of the engineering choices that you observe in your car reviews? For example, pt comment on things such as "engine cover or no engine cover", "battery up front or drivers side or passenger side", "plastic intake manifold vs other materials", etc. Obviously you wouldn't be able to go into a lot of detail while keeping the length of the video reasonable, but because your car reviews are so detailed it would be really helpful and interesting (not to everyone surely, but to me) if I had some idea of whether what you are talking about is a "good thing" or a "not so good thing". Is an engine cover so bad? If so, why? And why do manufacturers use them? Advantages to no using them? If this question is way too broad, perhaps you could just satisfy my curiosity with regards to engine covers and battery placement for now...? Thanks.

    I enjoy your auto reviews, but I think they need more variety. Maybe you prefer more family-type vehicles, and that's fine, but I think it's time to step away from the Subarus. I know you own one and are a fan, and they are great vehicles, but variety for your viewers is nice. I appreciated it when you did a truck review, as that was completely unexpected. Maybe consider reviewing the 2015 GMC Canyon. It was only reintroduced this year, and with only a very small number of 'midsize' trucks available in North America, it is class leading in every aspect. I think you'd appreciate it and it would be awesome to see you review another vehicle that so few people seem to be aware of.

    It was nice to meet you at OTR this year! You ever plan on doing rally cross on your wrx?

    I just put in an Thornton performance chip and, it definitely gives me more HP although definitely not the 60HP 😂. I don't know if the fuel mpg has improved any because, I'm enjoying pushing the car an bit with the added ponys😅.

    When manually shifting, wouldn't it be better to let off the gas when you up shift?
    p.s I really like the test drive videos! Try out the new jeeps preferably the new wrangler but a patriot or commander would suffice haha! But I own an older jeep, and I wanted to see what the new ones were like for comparison sake...

    I'd much rather have a good working 6 Spd Auto that "acts" like a CVT if you want it. The CVT is rated better MPG's because the lousy 5 Spd Manual they offer doesn't have a relaxed high gear. Indicated 3,200 RPM's at 70 mph! Subaru does make a 6 spd manual but chooses NOT to offer it in US Spec Imprezas and CrossTreks.

    Hi, I like all your videos! I also like your engineering knowledges! A question, what is your opinion on wheel spacers? 20mm on wrx, is it really going to do something bad to your suspensions, wheel bearings on such? Thanks a lot in advance! Hopefully you could do a video explain the good and bad:)

      +Yang Li I wouldn't do it. It will conflict with things you (nor I) will think about.

      +Engineering Explained I did not quite understand, so you are saying the spacers would do damages and conflict with some other things in the car?

    Hey man, I've always wondered about the ring of rust around the hug (can see it at 2:12 and 2:25). It always seems to be there. Any reason manufacturers haven't engineered it out?

      Ambar Srivastava Yep, seems to be on most cars I test. I suppose it's durable enough they don't care.
