The white guitar is Charlie. He gives his guitars names. The one you see most that's is worn out he calls #1. That's the first Strat he owned, he traded in a Gibson ES335 for a used Strat.. he played it loved the tone and traded it even without a case. I could give so much info about Stevie . I personally knew him as a person. I met him before a concert he kinda shy soft spoken. We talked alot about music the blues, it's history. He showed me his guitars let me play them. I went and talked with him at another concert and. Took a acoustic 12 string acoustic that I made by hand. No kit, made it from dried wood that had to be sawn into what I needed. He played it and he told me that is one of the best sounding 12 strings he had ever played. He played it some more and laughed gave I back. I told him I'd give it to him. but he said man that's a special guitar keep it don't get rid of it. He loved his guitar. I love mine keep one laying in my bed next to me.
Listen to Stevie playing in 2 Austin City Limits shows. One was before he cleaned up and one after. He looked so healthy. I could give you a history about Stevie. I met him before a few concert in Columbus, Ohio at the time. I was in the city and noticed that Stevie and Jeff Beck were there that night. I was a touring musician at that time. So I didn't have any problems getting in. Stevie is a somewhat shy person soft spoken. We talked about blues music various players influences we both had. He's a encyclopedia of blues. He showed me his guitars let me play a few. Just so happened we set our guitars up the sameway, exact measurements., His tech was there and , when I played his guitar it felt the same just thicker strings. When I was younger I used the same thickness just flat wound jazz strings. I use med strings on my acoustics which I can play like an electric. We used the same brand GHS. Later date I went to see him again and I took a 12 string acoustic that I had built by hand, not a kit guitar, but built it from the ground up. He played it for sometime, he would judt play but at times he had this chuckle that I can still hear to this day. I hear his voice as if I just takked to him. But after he played, he said man that is one of the best 12 strings I've played. I really mean that. He played it some more. I was going to give it to him, but he said no you keep it that's a special guitar it rings has a tone all of it's own. Keep it don't sell it , it's special. We had a great conversation. Actually I didn't think he would remember me but when we 1st saw each other, he smiled hey said my name smiled. He reached out put his hand on my shoulder kinda shock it like a kinda like a brotherly thing. I was there for hrs listen to sound check. He is into unbelievably into tone, which I knew. But he was checking everything. And when he plays it's loud. He drains every bit of tone his amps and guitar will give him to Express his feelings. The faces he makes it's not for show, he closes his eyes during sound check and plays as if his life depended on every note. Just to watch him in his element without a audience is unbelievable. I could tell you s great deal about Stevie. When he passed it shocked me, I really hurt inside. I wanted to go to the funeral but didn't. I thought this was time for his family and people who were really close to him. I have been to see him many times when I've been in the area. I actually talk to him out loud. I have some music that no one has ever heard. I've shared it with just a few people. It's from when
I was at the sound check. I use to carry a very small tape recorder with me so if I'd get a idea in my head of some music which use to happen to all the time I would sing or hum the notes or as close to what was hearing in my head. So I turned it on. I asked Stevie if I could do it during sound check. He said sure. After sound check he listened to some of it gave his chuckle and said in his Texas accent,,all right. He had to go rest some get ready for the night. I gave him a hug. Told him I luv ya man, he said right back to ya man luv ya. Watch him leave. I watched him play that night, his heart was in every note he played. The PAR 54 lights they use on stage are the same lights they have in passenger jets while landing. They get hot make you hot and when performing with them on you sweat even more. I've been under thoughs lights a would get dehydrated and need to have IV fluids put in me at the hospital. He drops with sweat it runs down his nose his shirt will be soaked. I can't understand why we had to lose him. He just found himself and I know he would have still been clean. He had so much more to offer not just in music but as a man. A man who struggle for everything be achieved and was thankful everyday. For those who never heard Stevie and Double Trouble, you have to listen to him more. You have to include Double Trouble because he would not have played without them. He could have but no they were a family.
Stevie gives such a badass performance here. I am so thankful that his beautiful soul achieved sobriety & peace a year later.

I remember the day he died, I hear it on the radio in my car. I had to pull over I was so overwhelmed with emotion.

Still miss this man. It always felt like he wasn't just playing music but more like the music was just channeling through him.
"Life Without You" was a song Stevie wrote after the untimely death of his great friend and mentor Charley Wirz. the song shows his love for Charley and how much he truly missed him. The White Stratocaster Vaughan played that was fitted with Danelectro Lipstick Tube Pickups was made by Wirz with the help of Stevie's Guitar Tech Rene Martinez. That is why he changed guitars.
The piano/keyboardist is Reese Wynans. He joined the band in 1985. He's an amazing musician as well. I highly recommend "Mary Had a Little Lamb" live from Austin in 1989.
He's performing now with Joe Bonamassa.
Reese is great in “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” but he really goes off in “Couldn’t Stand the Weather,” the 3/25/87 version. The picture quality isn’t great, but his playing is fantastic.
I used to go to Charley's guitar shop and one day I asked him about a white strat style guitar up high on the wall. He said "oh, that's for someone special. "

👏🙌🎶🎸💯Always love SRVSundays. Lots of people have requested this multiple times as it is a big fan favorite for obvious reasons. First a few answers to your questions. Stevie's sobriety date is 10.13.1986 so everything after that date is clean. You can't go by how much sweating as he would still sweat sober as he played so hard with 200% intensity. Reece Wynans joined the group in August of 1985 a month before this filming. He added so much and is featured in many songs you have yet to explore. You didn't mention seeing or hearing him watching Tightrope.
Stevie composed this song after the sudden passing of his good friend, Charley Wirz, a guitar shop owner in Dallas. Charley built that white guitar out of parts for Stevie. The image on the back is of a bare breasted hula dancer☺️. But you didn't notice that he started with a brown guitar that wasn't staying in tune and he signaled for a switch to the white one. It was so seamless people don't always notice.
Another great original from this show is "Aint Gone 'N' Give Up On Love".

He plays with his complete soul. He knew what addiction was and how it almost killed him. He became sober and we started hearing him talk about forgiveness, love, etc. a true visionary. Like Elvis, he respected the black community, and learned from their experience. Beautiful. He was deeply loved and is truly missed. ❤

There was only ONE as impressive as Stevie Ray Vaughan... With every great of any thing you can do, music, sports, anything someone is always the best, until there is another almost as good or maybe a bit different but so good. There just doesn't seem to be anyone who will ever match Stevie. Maybe it's just the Blues and the fact he brought the genre' back from a certain death in the time of Disco. I just have such a great deal of appreciation for someone who dedicated his entire life to playing the blues. The keyboard "master" is Reese Wynans. He's still on stage playing his heart out. Stevie was not yet sober here. 1986 is the year of his Sobriety. For me I see it on his face so clearly. His band was Tommy Shannon on bass, Chris “Whipper” Layton on drums, and Reece Wynans on keys. I was surprised you missed the guitar switch at the beginning of the song! Man, I just hear his guitar wailing, showing the pain Stevie felt at the loss of his friend. Stevie was one of a kind. No equal. He had a way of reaching inside you and playing to your soul. Before you know it, you find yourself making the same faces as he does even though he's playing and not yourself. It's crazy.

I always so love how Stevie reveals his heart and soul in this performance! Written and performed for his mentor/friend Charlie who suddenly passed. "Angels have waited for so long, now they have thier way...Take your place.."
So many magical moments here. The early guitar switch from Red to White (his Charlie guitar). And then Stevie cranking EVERYTHING up to get the max tone and feedback.
I watched him perform this tune many times, and it was his chance to share his heart with the audience. Later he focused on his sobriety (thankful to be alive, and can't stay at the party forever..."). In this case though he was responding directly to a violent response by the South African govt against protesters of Aparthied there.
I've watched this vid 500+ times. I dont think he actually lost a tooth. I think he was applogizing to his guitar tech for causing (another) guitar to go out of tune. You can hear it after he plays with his teeth, and there is no phyisical sign of a tooth missing or blood in his mouth.
Finally YES please react to Riveria Paradise from Austin City Limits. It is an instrumental gem and you will not forget Reese on keys ... Riveria Paradise was our wedding song in 1992. Peace.
What he lost was a false tooth appliance on his right side. If you freeze frame at the very end of eating those strings you can see the gap. He then whirled around to look for the tooth. He said sorry to the tech that had to come pick it up off the floor. All the while not missing a beat🎶🎸🎶

SRV had a substance abuse problem and sobered up in 85, his sobriety was extremely important and became more spiritual. He has a beautiful soul

The guitar he always used for this song was the white one ( on the back is a hula girl) because he got it from Charley Wirz, a much older guy who owned a guitar shop and who became Stevie's close friend, and respected confidant. Stevie wrote this song in memory of Charlie. Stevie had a tooth that was bothering him and during this performance while playing with his teeth, he actually lost the tooth! If you watch & listen carefully, soon afterward he said "Thank you Charley".
Charley was only 39 when he passed in 1985.

@@melanieredfield9736 I was pretty lucky, living in Dallas. I saw Stevie 6 or 7 times and met him twice. Any loss is tough, but both of these hit hard. In the summer of 90 he was part of a BB King show outside... my wife was pregnant and I told her it was too hot out, we'd catch the next show. There never was a next time.

Next time you watch this video, notice...Stevie is having problems with the tuning. Looks to the side and asks for (and gets) a different guitar. Drops his pick and picks it up. Adjusts the amps/guitar to his liking. Makes a great speech. loses a tooth (playing with teeth) and looks to the side and says, "Lost a tooth...it's gone!" All this was done seamlessly. Bet you didn't notice.

I love to listen to SRVs music, but these videos of him are so, so much better than just the audio. I am very thankful for whoever was doing all the video work of SRVs better performances. He would be turning over in his grave if he knew how their contribution to this sound was omitted by YT reacting f*cks that don't know anything about him or the history of his band and their friendship. Sorry, but I get passionate about this because he insisted on sharing the money and the fame among all of them and I respect him so much for that. Had many opportunities to leave them behind and said "F*ck You" to the record company.

No reactors seems to notice that he broke his tooth while playing with his teeth. You'll notice he starts looking on the ground right after and then turns to his roadie and, if you can read lips, you'll see he says " I broke my tooth". Considering the gauge of strings he uses, it's no surprise he broke his tooth.

You listen to albums. I have more than 3000 albums from the late 60's till the time they stopped selling them. I have 45's that go back to when Elvis and others recorded at Sun Records. My albums are in mint condition, look at them under a florescent light. Still have original posters. I did have all tge shrink wrap on them with price tag. I went to cassettes because the huge jump in price to CD'S, So I have a few 100 if those. But went to CD'S and have more CD'S than albums. I like vinyl more. I don't care for all the new technology . To me it takes away the more natural aspect. Sometimes in recording a mistake is made, they go back and overdub. Back then at times they'd leave some mistakes in if they weren't real noticeable. They did it 1 because majority of people wouldn't hear it plus also budget . Now you can take anything and correct it with outboard equipment. I mean to have a person who can't sing very well and have a outboard effect fix it so everything is intune. I have albums from oversea that were released at the same time here in US but have a few different songs and the album cover is different. I have a 45 from the Beatles that has My Bonnie on it. Skiffle. The keyboard player is Reese Wynans. I loved when they added him , gave the music more fuller sound. Watch Austin City Limits they have 2 shows with him. One before rehab and the other after.
my "dad" actually gave me a 45 record with billy idol rebel yell/white wedding when i was like 10 "years" old = 1978 ... before "m tv" helped him get popular ...

Charlie made the white guitar for and what Stevie is playing here. Stevie Ray appropriately named it 'Charlie' and he would use it often when he performed this song. Messing with the amps, Stevie could get that wailing tone, as if the guitar is weeping.
He was telling a stage hand that he lost a tooth while he was playing w/his teeth then walked over to the mic and thanked 'Charlie' for it.
