  • ISSUE HAS NOW BEEN RECALLED!!! Call your dealer for details. Blown 30 amp maxi fuse for your cooling fan? Fan not working? car overheating, or a/c not working? Fan violently shaking? This is probably why. Apparently the fan also fits a Ram ProMaster City Tradesman? 2.4L. 15 16 17

    I appreciate you calling my 2015 Jeep Renegade junk. I appreciate it more than the fact that my engine overheated yesterday and the check engine light came on, but no warning that it was maxing out on the coolant temperature readout deep in the stupid driver monitor instead of a gauge. Dealership won't work on it because it's not covered on the powertrain warranty, but if I would have kept driving the engine would have been damaged. If that happened they told me they could have pointed to the thermostat and then the engine wouldn't be covered under said warranty. None of my upcoming vehicles are going to be from Chrysler.

    Today the fan on my 2015 Renegade seized up and burned, which left us with some scary gray smoke billowing out from under the hood. After I got the family out of the car and made sure nothing was on fire, we parked on the street and walked to lunch to let the engine cool down. It looks like it was just this fan motor that burned up, but in my case the fan cannot even be turned by hand. It is completely melted and stuck. I was only about two miles from the house so I was able to drive it home. Thanks for making this video and showing us all the junk. I don't have a good place to work on my car so I am going to take it in for this fix on Monday. At least I have a good place to start when discussing with the mechanic.

      The part we got did not fit and I could not wait another week to get this taken care of so my son took the fan off the new part and put it onto the old assembly. Then we had issues where we thought it kept blowing the resistor, but it ended up being an issue with the fuse. All in all, this Jeep is as Rust Belt Auto states "A Piece of Junk". I will go back to a Wrangler as soon as possible.

      @RustBeltAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephanie Z if I was me, I would check to see how much amperage the fan is using, and make sure there are no shorts to ground. I have a 2017 Renegade and recently had my radiator replaced. My mechanic called and said I also need to have my a/c condenser serviced simply because it was in the way of the radiator and had to be removed in order to replace the radiator. This will cost me another couple hundred dollars to service my ac condenser with 1234yf freon. Mind you he let me know about the ac condenser after the fact. I double checked this with a dealers service dept and the rep assured me that that shouldn't be the case (removing the ac condenser to replace radiator). However when I mentioned that to the mechanic he assured me that the dealership didn't know what they were talking about and the he absolutely had to remove the ac condenser. Is this true? And if so, would it then be necessary to have the freon replaced? Sorry, I know that was a long winded question! Thank you for any information!

    That heat shield isn’t working. That’s why it melted the fan motor interior? Also couldn’t we get the new fan motor and mount it on the other original mount? You said after market fans won’t fit back correctly so why not just get the new fan motor and put it on the original mount? It looked easy to take off when you dissected the old fan. I have a 2015 renegade and this scares me. So far nothing has happened. My 3 years ends in October and I haven’t reached 20,000 miles yet. I have a feeling it’s that heat shield area that’s messing up the fan. Not a car guy but seems like it now for sure after your dissection of the old fan. Now I’m really worried lol. One more thing I heard that removing the oxygen sensor is not a good idea because of the threads might get damage because heat from that area. Someone else said that in another TH-cam video. I can’t trade my Jeep in I’m already underwater so I gotta stick with it and pay it off. All these problems people report are making me nuts though.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh Mann if you can get just a motor go ahead. It came as an assembly for me so I put it all in. Maybe other manufacturers have a better fit, I don't know. If the threads come out, you need to tap, or chase the hole, and buy a new sensor. That usually always fixes it. If not heli-coil. That thing looked to me like it turned into an electrical toaster, not from manifold heat, but I could be wrong.

    • @berniediapersanderslukso9204
      @berniediapersanderslukso9204 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to say but you got a lot of things wrong. The heat shield works otherwise the plastic motor housing will have melted already. Yes it is ok to remove the oxygen sensor. I have to agree with this mechanic that the motor was poorly designed using a bushing instead of a ball bearing.
      You can't simply remove the motor from its housing due to the fan blades. Would have been nice. If I were to design this part it will be like that . Easy to take apart and reassemble.
      This problem is not just Jeep's problem. My Audi had the exact same problem and it cost me more to fix. For the same quality the part itself was more expensive. Labor too was more expensive.
      This is a fairly common problem due mainly to the failed bushing. Ball bearings last much longer.

      It has a 36,000 mile warranty. What would you expect? If the car makes it to 36,001, it's a win. 10/100 is a better car. The warranty tells you how well built the car is going to be. 3/36 is the worst warranty out there. Maybe next time they will try for 1.5/18. See how that sells.

    • @berniediapersanderslukso9204

      Plastic happens to be a very expensive material. Just go to a plastics dealer.The failed component in the motor was metal not plastic. If that assembly was made of metal can you imagine what the weight will be?
      The failed component was a metal bushing where they should have used a regular ball bearing.
      Are the engineers listening?
      The engineer who designed this motor must be a product of the dumbed down liberal educational system. Cheapen the product to reduce carbon footprint.
