    These acephobic people are just weird. Getting upset about whether someone else feels sexual attraction or not as if it in any way affects you personally is just silly.

      It's the same reaction one might get for saying they don't drink alcohol. People just feel threatened by someone not wanting/needing something that is popularized to the point of addiction to some other people.

      @@catarena8031 oh I never thought about it that way. Yeah that makes sense. Like one time I said I don't want to drink alcohol and the person said "oh, so you think you're better than me?!" They're just insecure cause we're seen as more "pure".
      I thought another reason people might discriminate against asexuals is because they had a crush on an asexual but got rejected because of that and they took it personally.

      It even gets more "funny" if you take libido into account, because so many people seem to think that libido and sexual attraction are the same. Just because biology functions doesn't mean one needs to have the urge to use it, thats nothing different to a person who doesn't want kids.
      Sadly, so many people are offendet by stuff that doesn't harm them just because it differs from what they experience themselve or from people they are close to while forgetting that the same result could be achieved to multiple ways.

So and so is the most conventionally attractive..."
      Just stawp. It's making me uncomfortable.
      Like I can love people, and I have, but I don't want to fuck people. I can, but I don't (unless say I was with a partner that I really loved and they wanted it, I'd give in a little)
      I look at a person and I don't really wanna jump em for sex like most others can, so things like one night stands and all that shiz, driven purely by sexual attraction and shallow connections are just impossible for me.
      I can masterbate and all that shiz but that's a physical thing not really the same as wanting to have sex with someone.

      That friend sounds like an a**hole. It's not our choice! We can't "just be like everyone else". And same. Most of my friends have been supportive but I told a guy friend that I was asexual and immediatley he said "most people find LOVE in college." That got me so mad. I told him that we can feel love, just aren't sexually attracted to anyone. He didn't say anything so I said "so, what do you think?" I wanted to know if he supports me but he immediately said "you know, every girl I've met has never seen me as being a boyfriend, they only see friend qualities in me..." And then he went on a big spiel about how no one will date him. Like wtf?! He doesn't talk to me much now. And a few others have said "but you will have sex one day right?" And when I say that I might one day they seem to relax. It's really weird.

    I just found out asexual is a thing and I am 31 currently. When I saw a video being recommended on TH-cam. I clicked on it out of curiosity. Never heard of it before and I like learning. My whole damn life just made sense. I was always told that something was wrong with me when I didn’t show any sexual desire or that I didn’t freak out over someone being “attractive”. I have had sex. I was coerced into and even raped at one point and my ex managed to convince my young, naïve, and sheltered self that what they did wasn’t rape. I felt disgusted every single time. I wasn’t raised with “sex was bad” either. I always heard these growing up and I told people I wasn’t interested in sex. So, in ordered to not feel isolated, I pretended that I was interested and talked about it. Cause I swear, it’s what most people only ever talk about and are interested in. Oh, a high action pack movie where every night die, got to force in a sex scene, people kissing, or getting married in the climate of the action. Most movies force sex into them. Why? Honestly, being so obsessed with sex seems very unhealthy since obsessing over anything IS suppose to be unhealthy, unless it’s sex.
    I am glad to come across this video though. I am working on a comic and my main character is asexual. Totally going to have these comments show up. Some of these I never heard of before. It’s always either I am a virgin, something is medically wrong with me, or that i just haven’t met the right person yet.

    It took me a loooong time (at age 36) to figure out that i was asexual. I honestly felt something in me was broken but i knew i wasnt like the other girls. I did have a few crushes in high school but i destinctly remember, when i was about 12 wishing there was a third option outside male and female. I was a teen in the ninties and grew up in rural australia, terms asexual, non binary, etc did not exist in my vocabulary and so i could understand what i felt.

    Yes QUEEN!! I've seen so many assumptions made about us. I've seen a lot of people equating asexuality and pedophilia (because... not being sexually attracted to anyone... makes you sexually attracted to children...? I don't get it other than the fact that hey I was molested as a kid, it's SO nice to hear I'm a molester because I'm different, that's not homophobic rhetoric 101 at all!) and I've read comments about wanting to round us up and put us in concentration camps... at this point I'm entirely hate-proof. It used to get to me, now I'm like, whatever. Because ultimately these poor sods are just insecure manchildren who are just jealous of other people being happy and confident with themselves. Thoughts and prayers for them lmao

    • @rowena7892
      @rowena7892 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think the assumption there it that we MUST be lying. That no one could really be asexual so it must be something really shameful (like paedophilia or bestiality) or otherwise we wouldn't say it. Which is gross. I also feel like this is why so many of us get pegged as 'secretly gay'.

    • @aragornsonofarathorn2170
      @aragornsonofarathorn2170 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's so disgusting that people think like that. I watched a BuzzFeed video on things to not say to asexuals and the comment section was so toxic. Like this guy said that "asexual people have to be put in mental hospitals and strapped to chairs and taught biology" like wtf? I know how biology works, I just don't want sex? So weird. Most of them have probably been rejected by their asexual crush or something.

    • @Cachalyce
      @Cachalyce 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@aragornsonofarathorn2170 I bet that nearly all of them also think that sexual attraction and libido are the same. Like, most people I met where fine when asexuals also lacked a libido, but they couldn't wrap their head around people like me that may have a libido but don't feel sexual attraction - so don't want to live out their libido with anyone. I even had people (mostly guys, but also some girls) getting mad at me when they asked me what I do when my libido kicks in and I said I just ignore it because It's just a biochemical reation of my body. They didn't understand how I could possible dare to ignore it, guess they were one of the kind that lacked the self-restraint to ignore their own.

  • @Amphitera

    you don't even have to state you're ace. It's enough to say you are not interested in anything beyond friendship, and the hate begins. Especially if you're an attractive female. Probably because all the losers who are hitting on us in vain take it as a personal insult/threat.

  • @shaewilson9450
    @shaewilson9450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    One thing some people like to bring up when I explain my asexuality is that I’m on medication that kills my sex drive/libido. Then they refuse to believe that I identified as asexual at least a year before beginning that medication. And another thing some people like bring up is that I’m conventionally unattractive, and would probably struggle to find a sexual partner if I did want to seek one out, saying I’m using this as an excuse to not “improve” my appearance. I feel genuinely tired when my own friends (several of whom are LGBTQ+ themselves) scoff and roll their eyes when I explain my sexuality (in situations where it’s brought up). I’m very glad that there is a support community for this identity.
