    As someone who used the TMX pro for a few years as my entry wheel, I can definitly recommend buying it as a first wheel. You get a lot for the money. after a few years of regular use, you may find that the shifter pedals will start to break. The T3PA pedals are pretty decent but I'd always recommend upgrading to the new T-LCM pedal set instead because even with the brake mod, it's nothing compared to a proper loadcell brake.
    I did use a G920 wheel by logitech for a short time before getting the TMX wheel and I'd say if you choose between the two, the TMX pro is the way to go.
    a few months back I decided to upgrade to the fanatec ecosystem and I don't regret it but TMX pro is a great point to start at to get a feel for whether you want to invest more money in the future!

      Thanks, this is so useful. I have been wanting to get into sim racing for a while now and you helped me make a choice on what to get. This is such useful feedback and I couldn’t thank you more.
      Update: figured out I have to go with normal TMX because I can’t afford the pro because I’m a kid (don’t ask why I am into sim racing while being a kid). Luckily, I’m good at dealing with what I got and I’ll still have fun even without a clutch. I’ll figure out how to drift without it.

    • @marcusberggren9241
      @marcusberggren9241 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@footßall
      if you're going normal TMX I think that's fine if you can't afford the pro version but the plastic pedals are going to annoy the heck outta you. Maybe it's worth waiting and saving a little extra for the pro version to get the T3PA pedals? :)
      otherwise you could do an upgrade path something like this:
      Thrustmaster TMX ->
      Save money to eventually get the T-LCM pedals ->
      Upgrade to for example either a TS-PC Racer and a wheel addon of your choosing :)
      For me I went a bit sideways at first.
      I got the Logitech G920, it's a very good wheel but the pedal set is absolute garbage to be ruthlessly honest.
      i got it used but i managed to resell it 2nd hand again so gained some money back and decided to get the Thrustmaster TMX Pro. Bought it from the store. I invested in the TH8A Shifter as well so i went all into Thrustmaster eco-system. Sad thing with TMX is that the wheel is not interchangable. Even Fanatec entry level you can interchange the wheel rim if you want to so that was a bummer. for the longest time i was using what i got so to speak cause upgrading from a $300 to a $1000+ setup is daunting.
      My worst fear with upgrading to Fanatec was that it's soooo much money invested into something. Ultimately, I am happy that I invested in it because I really really enjoy it.
      TL;DR You have to start somewhere :) and if your starting point is the regular TMX so be it! :) hope you will enjoy your purchase and welcome to the world of sim racing. It's a very expensive hobby but it's nothing compared to the costs of actual track time and the sims these days have become so realistic and it's improving every year.

      @footßall 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@marcusberggren9241 Yeah, I was planning to upgrade the pedals later. The fact that they’re plastic and cheap feeling won’t bother me very much but I do want some better quality ones that will last me a long time.

      I’m excited to learn to drive. lol

    I had a G920 last year, only kept it for a couple of months, couldn't get on with it. I think mainly due to the pedals, they were kinda either on or off with no real in between which made more delicate inputs like feathering the throttle impossible.
    This sounds a lot better though!! And no dead zone in the steering is good! I hated that there was about 15 or degrees of nothing in the centre of the G920!
    Might have to look into getting one of these for the BTCC game coming next year!

    Thank you for all the insight on these sim racing peripherals, they've been really helpful!
    I've never gotten into sim racing before and I just picked up one of these wheels with pedals and a cheap wheel stand for 64 bucks shipped. This will be my first time into driving wheels and didn't want to spend a ton, so found it secondhand. My other option was a DFGT for 40 bucks but I figured the belt/gear hybrid system would be better due to the lack of deadzone and slightly quieter. It only has the basic cheapo 2-pedal set but I'll probably try to do some sort of rubber pad/brake mod for the time being until I can find a cheap set of T3PA's used too. I've seen a number of arduino DIY USB conversions so I'll probably try to find a Logitech Driving Force shifter and convert it to USB since the TH8A is way out of my price range right now.

    • @SimRacingCorner
      @SimRacingCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If It's your first time diving into sim racing, you're doing it the right way and finding bargains to keep it cheap. The weakest performance element of the setup is the 2 pedal, pedal set, so definitely you'll want to upgrade the pedals when you can.

    TMX (NOT pro) owner here. I have to agree with this review on virtually all points outside of the pedals, since I don't have them, though I really wished I picked them up. The TMX is a good plug-and-play wheel that will work with pretty much any PC/Xbox game I've used. However, as I find myself in the same situation, it is a stepping stone. Pick up the TMX if you feel you might be interested in sim racing. Pick up a better rig if you find you are interested in sim racing after some use. Truly a simple wheel in both operation as well as "should I or should I not" verdict.

    quite refreshing to see a review that points out the flaws as much as the pro's with these entry level wheels. ive been spoilt on sim racing hardware for a while, using direct drive motors for a few years now currently own a simucube 2 pro... i purchased a thrustmaster T150 for my 6 year old just to quite frankly keep him away from my gear which as we know isn't to be messed with by kids and you know... my first impression of the T150 was it is absolutely disgustingly horrible, from the point you take it out of the box it feels like you rescued it from a few years at the bottom of the sea, full of wet sand, i couldn't think of anything worse to play a game with but when i see my kid having fun and not even thinking twice about how it works im reminded what these products are for, they are a fun entry into simulating racing and most of us have to appreciate what these do for our community. We are surely now at a point however where higher end hardware needs to trickle its way down the stack, belts need to be standard entry level bringing with it increased smoothness and immersion and direct drives need to be made affordable, thankfully it is looking like those steps are slowly being made.

    10:57 I feel that with my Thrustmaster T300 and TX too. It's because of the teeth in the belt drive. Even with my Ferrari 599 Evo 30 wheel rim attached to the bases.
    In American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator on straight parts of roads where you need to make fine adjustments to stay straight that notchiness hinders things a bit because you turn left or right a slight bit too much because of that.
    I've used a T150 for a few weeks though and the notchiness is worse with it compared to the TX and T300. The TX and T300 feel a lot smoother despite the fact that when you need to make slight tiny adjustments in some Sims you feel those belt notches. In other Sims like PCars , Asetto Corsa etc you don't feel the notches though.

    It's worth mentioning that there is a 3D printed hub adapter available for the TMX that will allow you to quick release any time your like, and you'll get the best experience with this wheel if you decrease all dampening affects and increase all detail effects to maximize the dynamic quality of the force feedback. Dual belt design is great for smoothness but not great for fine detailed FX.

    Will it be stable if I mount it to a desk whose front edge isn't 100% parallel to the wall behind the desk (My goal is to mount the wheel so that it's perpendicular to the wall behind the desk.)? I would say it's roughly ten degrees off. It's hard to explain but if I mounted the wheel perpendicular to the table, then the pedals would be at an angle if I press them against the wall, which would be weird. I guess another way to ask this question, do the pedals stick to the ground or do they move? I hope you understand what I mean, lol.
    Edit: I'm going to use it with VR anyway, so it doesn't matter whether it's right in front of the monitor. If the pedals stick to the ground, then it doesn't have to be set up perpendicular to the wall.
