Hey Coop ! The 2.5lbs add-on you have was my 1st prototype which has been fined tuned since then. There's no issues with the stainless pop-pin on the 2.5lbs and the 1.25lbs neither. I'm glad you still love the Dumbbell. Stay tuned for what's coming up next !! David.
I've bought a lot of gym equipment where premium products don't really offer that much more noticeable improvement from more budget-friendly options, but the Pepins are the one thing that is definitely worth the splurge. They're so much better than everything else out there and will last a lifetime. Like Coop, I actually prefer them to fixed dumbbells. $200 per 20 pound expansion plate set (for each pair of dumbells, so 40 pounds in total). That means it's actually not any cheaper to buy the full weight all at once. This actually is a huge attraction for beginner/intermediate lifters who are starting lighter and are trying to decide between the highest weight and the lower/lowest weight set to start. I've had the money and been waiting to pull the trigger on a set of adjustable dumbbells for years and none of them have had it all at this price point. As soon as I saw the price I smashed buy now. I'm so happy that I waited for these at 125lbs per hand rather than settling for nuobells.
Bought my Pepins in December. These seem really similar and much less expensive as noted in the video. Kinda wish I had waited, but who knew. Anyway, love the Pepin's. Work well and look awesome!
I have some thoughts... I have the original Canadian Pepin's and they are great. I also own some fixed Rep dumbbells and they are fine for their price point. With that said, I hope Rep maintains the quality of the Pepin knurling because the Rep fixed dumbbells are not even close. I realize many people may not notice this, but I do. I like that the handle goes all the way to the plate on the Rep/Pepin version and that the handle is 10 lbs vs the original Pepins. I also like the all-black look, although the cerakote may not hold up as well as the nickel coating. I am very happy that the price point will be more attainable for more people, however, this drastically undercuts those of us who bought from Pepin in the secondary market as the Rep version is literally half the price. That's my only complaint which really doesn't matter until someone makes something better because I'm not selling my Pepins. 🤷♂😂
Been wanting to upgrade my Bowflex 552s for like a year now. Constantly waffling on Snode, Nuobell, Rep Quickdraws, Trulap.... They all have some dealbreaker flaw... too bulky, not heavy enough, weird increments, no 5-lb increments, too fragile... I think these are the clear winner for only like $100 more for the 85 pounders. I don't need the 105s or 125s.... at least not in the near future, so I'm glad they can be upgraded as needed.
Coop! Thought of you as soon as I saw these announced. Too bad you helped convert me over to powerblocks long ago. These for sure is what I would go with if I didn’t already have adjustables. Thanks for the content, can’t wait to see the hands on review!
I went with the Poweblock EXP 100's after watching Coop review them a few months ago. Just received them about 2 weeks ago. I'm happy with them. I've never been one to order something new on the market right away. I like to see how they actually perform in use for an extended period. Will the sliding mechanism for weight changes on these jam? I know Coop mentioned in the review that something in his Peppin's is stuck. Just waiting for more people to use them and review them a little more long term. If all looks good I may consider.
Coop, I can’t believe we haven’t heard from you regarding the Aries 2.0 yet 😮. I know there’s only prototype pictures out so far but would love to start talking about it. Thank god they raised the height of the low row and made it a center pulley 🎉
Jujifumu, coop you need to get in and review his gym, it is between him, the rocks iron paradise, and that one home gym that you reviewed that was in the basement on a video you watch for the best home gyms, those 3 you need to review in person, please
Great video! Lots of detail as usual from Coop. I do like the Nickel OG look, I wonder if Rep would offer a premium Rep X Pepin with the Nickel but at a lighter start weight
I gotta say I am absolutely confused af. I have been researching for a couple of weeks now which adjustable dumbbell to buy, and every single one of your videos you absolutely swear by/endorse the nuobell dumbbells. Now the nuos look absolutely amazing and in a lot of your vids you mention how they look and feel just like regular dumbbells. These 'pepe' dumbbells do not at all look like normal dumbbells in fact they are somewhere between powerblocks and bowflex 1090s. So what's the deal here. Is this just a shameless plug or is there a reason the nuobells are no longer relevant - idk man. For me as the kids say - the math aint mathin.
You are mostly right. Price per performance, Nuobells are a better deal per lb. But they are not as durable (have plastic parts, and a short warranty period). As he mentioned already, best bang for the $$$ is Nuobell. Best overall if money is no issue are these ones. Think about it like a Ferrari and a Corvette. Of course a Ferrari is faster, but not at the same ratio to price. It cost 5X more money, but a Corvette does 0-60 in 3 sec, and a Ferrari 2.4 sec. For it to be the same price\performance ratio, the Ferrari should do 0.6 sec (3 seconds divided by 5)...which is physically impossible.
I didn’t know these were coming out and at this price. Now that they have, they’re likely going to replace NUOBELL at the top of my list. They have a cage, but it’s much smaller than Powerblock and they don’t feel offset, at least the Pepins don’t. And they’re likely going to be much more durable than Nuobells. - Coop
@@GarageGymReviews Yeah, but they cost almost twice as much. I think most people looking for a set of adjustable dumbbells are going to max $800. My max is a lot lower (but I'm not most people).
@@shane250they’re not too different in price. 85lbs variant is $899 while nuobells 80lbs is $765 - so a $130 difference. The $1299 variant goes up to 125 which is 40 pounds more per dumbbell so it’s a fair increase for 80 more pounds in the tech.
@@GarageGymReviewsto me it just seemed disingenuous, but then I’m not an avid watcher of the channel so I may have formed my own perspective based off the handful of videos I watched on adjustable dumbbells. I’m still looking at what adjustable dumbbells to purchase and so I’ll also look at these. Definitely like that they’re the only option I’ve seen that goes to 125lbs
COOP!, Given the amount of space I have in my workout space, definitely want to be "REP'n the PÉPIN". And the shirt merch that should follow. I'll take my royalties in REP loyalty points.
I'll stick to traditional adjustable dumbbells along with my fixed hex dumbbells and use the money I save by not buying the latest adjustable dumbbell to buy other home gym equipment even though I already own four different home gyms (garage gym, basement gym, extension room gym, and a backyard patio gym).
Literally (witerally) just bought a set of Nuobells. Lol. Oh well, I still love them. If they ever end up in the graveyard, I'll get some REPPINS. Kinda glad I don't have to wait for the pre-order anyway.
I hope REP make a stand for these Reppins. Otherwise, they will be a pain to use in my small fitness room. I am going to get rid of my dumbbell rack and fixed dumbbells as soon as I get an adjustable set with a stand. We'll wait until September. Thanks Coop for your timely information.
Same. I have the Pepins and the stand he offers is just too big for my space. I use my old Nuobell stand and it works great, but would really like one like it actually designed for the Pepins.
Well, I just paid 300 USD (400 CAD) for a brand new knockoff pair of Bowflex 10-90 (including shipping!). They're all over FB marketplace. The weight change dial isn't as smooth as the original Bowflex (I'd say it requires about 2X more force to rotate)... But for half the price, I'm fine with that. Had them for about 18 months now, no issues. For the "perfect" adjustable dumbbells, I'm willing to spend maybe 600 USD... But nowhere close to 1K USD!
Maaaan I wanted these so bad when I built all my gym. But even though I had the money, I couldn’t justify over 2k when I had powerblocks that go to 90. Thanks rep for getting more money out of me 😂. They better have a sick stand for these
So less than two weeks ago I ordered a set of Pepins which are on an 8-10 week shipping delay. Wondering what the right move is with this. Would love your suggestion Coop.

I had been saving up for the Pepin's since Coop's review. Tax refund hit and I was so ready to buy them, but I got busy on the weekend. Then I saw Rep tease a new dumbbell and thought "interesting, but no way it goes as heavy as Pepins"--thinking they'd release a new version of their Rep Quick Draws. Holy smokes am I glad I waited when I saw the Collab. I saved $800! But David Pepin is such a good dude, he sent an email about contacting him to change your order to the Collab version, so I think I would have been okay.
Please do a side by side review of the originals and the Reppins (lol). I can understand partnering with a larger company can bring the manufacturing cost down but you said some things that have me curious: Cerakote vs nickel plated Powder coat vs e-coat (possibly?) Different handle sizes (I think) Use of aluminum vs steel
@@thomaspham-qf4ry Take this with a grain of salt since Engineering is not my background however I will say I work with them on a daily basis. Aluminum is generally softer than steel and is more prone to scratches as well as bending under load. Now I understand there are different grades of aluminum, and given the correct grade and weight it supports, it may not pose an issue at all. My general concern was that the reduction of cost does not simply come from partnering with a larger manufacturer but also using materials that reduce cost but may not have the durability or longevity of the original. Which is why I would like to see a side by side review out of the package as well as say after 1 year of regular use. If cost wasn’t an issue and I was going off the info provided in the video I would lean towards getting the original based on the materials employed. But that’s just me.
@@aen8921 I sent a message to David about the structural differences between the two, here's what he said "Hi Josh, Thank you for your email. You have a good question. The 3 bolts design was my idea in regards to the aluminium 5/8" plates that are 1 of the main part of the handle frame. As aluminium and steel don't have the same technical property, 3 bolts were needed, so they just put 3 bolts on the entire construction. If you look closely at the warranty, dropping on a purpose isn't recommended at all at REP and neither by myself. If a customer tells me that he needs to drop his dumbbells on every workout, I always suggest the use of a thick crash pad. As we know that even non-adjustable will eventually break over time, those are simply logical recommendations. The handle on my product is made out of a solid piece of steel machined. REP has to use a tube to save on weight. But still has been intensively dropped to ensure its strength. I've overbuilt my Canadian version, which is mainly why it weighs 20lbs. I hope that answers your question. Feel free if there's anything else." This is what Pepin said to somebody the reppinx peppin if you look at it it has 3 bolts because of aluminum and the original proteins only have 2 bolts cause of the steel what’s your opinion now ^
@@thomaspham-qf4ry that is a lot to take in. As of right now given the information at hand I would still go with the original if cost was not an issue. I prefer overbuilt. I prefer steel over aluminum as well as the other things mentioned. I don’t drop weights (I use bumper plates and I still don’t drop those). I clean and maintain my equipment routinely. Now on the other hand taking cost into consideration I can’t judge the cost to quality ratio yet. I would take the reppins over the Nuobell or those similar to Nuobell. Compared to Powerblocks or the original it’s a toss up at this point.
@@aen8921keep in mind that our REPxPépin has been intensively dropped during testing phase to ensure its strenght. We wouldn't came out with a weaker version, that wouldn't make sense to us. In order to achieve 10lbs handle, engineers worked hard to ensure strenght and durability of the structure. Feel free to contact the team at REP or Pépin if you have any further questions. David.

I am very happy that the price point will be more attainable for more people, however, this drastically undercuts those of us who bought from Pepin in the secondary market as the Rep version is literally half the price. That's my only complaint which really doesn't matter until someone makes something better because I'm not selling my Pepins. 🤷♂😂
Same here, bought mine 18 months ago. A bit salty but it is what it is
@@JBS7551 I feel you. Mine were just delivered two weeks ago. I haven't even received my add-ons yet. 🤷♂️
Saw this hit their site yesterday. I really want these, but It's a big price and I already have 90lb powerblocks.
Pumped for the Reppin!!!
I’ll be drooling, watching with my face pressed up to the screen as Rep does not ship to my location. Come on Rep, I’m sure you can figure out a way…
I was going to get the Nuobell; but now this changes things. When can we expect a review?
Rep Pepin is a good 80’s action hero name
watched video. went and preordered. am back now to say this is sweet AF
I absolutely love this! I would NEVER spend over 2K on adjustable dumbells, but I will most definitely buy these
Was waiting for this reaction. ONREAL news
I think their product may compete a little too much but I'd love to see some bulletproof collaborations. The isolator is so cool
Enjoy the Powerblocks. Used them for years and loved them! - Coop
@@GarageGymReviews I do! Love the retro look and feel. Maybe when I get to Coop strength I’ll consider splurging on an upgrade 😉
I prefer Nuobell with the “no cage” look. But these are cool
- Coop
@@GarageGymReviews
Yeah, but they cost almost twice as much.
You gotta love the way Coop pronounces “dinero” 😂
Kinda glad I don't have to wait for the pre-order anyway.
same, got mine this week. though these are prob better, 5 months along time to wait without weights at home . I'm not regretful
Shipping date has already changed from August 20 to September 3 just 12 hours after posting.
Holy shit this is what I was hoping for when you first showed PEPIN!!
@@benbarnett1076 The REP website mentions a rack as "coming" soon. Let's give them a chance to design and engineer a rack that fits our needs.
Rep Fitness is developing a stand that will work with their quickdraw or pepin adjustable dumbbells. It is on the FAQ for the Reppin.
I was eyeballing the Pepin for a while. Just pre ordered these. So glad I waited.
Here's hoping they come to Australia, been wanting to replace my powerblocks with these since I saw your original fast series video.
Cancel it bro
If you can wait, personally I’d cancel and order the Reppin’s (although this is without having used them. Just specs look so similar, I wouldn’t want to pay double.) - Coop
Got it. Thanks. Doing that and going with the Reppins.
The Pepins are higher quality though and without an extra plate
Are they still made in Canada?
Exciting time for home gym. Glad they were able to get the price point down
This is definitely on the top of the list for the gym this year!
Yes brother. 🎉
Was ready to pull the trigger and get the rep quick draw, now I have to rethink and decide if I should wait until August.
Will there be a similar quick video on the Ares 2.0? Is the Ares v1 at a 300 buck discount currently a good buy? Etc. thx
Ares 1 at a discount is a great buy. It is still functional and does all the movements of Ares 2.0. I own the original Ares.
@@markhalstead2386 do you have the four our six post? I think a six post would solve the “no incline in rack”’issue. I’m fine inclining from front of the 6 post. I think the low row is not the best, but with the gym pin work around I think it’s not nearly the issue some make it out to be.
@@Realdealbrianfliar I have a 6 post with a 30” front depth. I squat inside and bench outside (with safety spotter arms).
Holy shit 1,300 bucks. I should have waited for these but oh well, I still love my Ironmaster 120s lol
Super bummed!! I don’t own any dumbbells and my home gym will be here next week. I don’t really want to wait 4 months for these.
I was really debating the REP Quickdraw Dumbbells before these came in my email. Probably gonna wait a bit longer now
I ordered them within the first 30 minutes they were on the site. The Reppin has an extra plate on each end compared to the Pepin to make up for the lighter handle by 10 pounds.
Yeah personally that’s a turn off for me, I’d rather rather DB be as compact as possible. Plus these aren’t made in Canada
I bough the power blocks last summer and a folding bench ( pB) while doing armed security all summer 7 days a week to get myself out of a finnancial hole adjustable dumbells kept me active and fit while sweating my ass off in az
I've been looking to replace my powerblocks that max out at 90lbs. I've got my order in, super pumped for September.
I literally broke down and bought nuo bells 2 weeks ago after waiting more than a year because i wasn't fully satisfied with the options on the market. These come out right after that and are exactly what i would have wanted. 😢 I do like the nuo bells but would prefer something more durable so I don't need to worry as much about dropping them.
Saving this for the day my bowflex 1090s just GIVE ME A REASON TO UPGRADE! Sadly they're still going strong.
Sold my 1090s last month. Went 12 years strong (replaced two cradles). I was lucky to get that long out of them. Got my moneys worth. But these, they’re just on a whole other level. It’s like comparing a Toyota Corolla to the Porsche Carrera
Nice, thanks Coop!
Man if I didn't already have PowerBlock pros with stainless knurling these would be the ones to get.
Please do a side by side review of the originals and the Reppins (lol). I can understand partnering with a larger company can bring the manufacturing cost down but you said some things that have me curious:
Cerakote vs nickel plated
Powder coat vs e-coat (possibly?)
Different handle sizes (I think)
Use of aluminum vs steel
What’s your opinion on the handle being alluminum v steel ?
@@aen8921 I sent a message to David about the structural differences between the two, here's what he said
"Hi Josh,
Thank you for your email. You have a good question. The 3 bolts design was my idea in regards to the aluminium 5/8" plates that are 1 of the main part of the handle frame. As aluminium and steel don't have the same technical property, 3 bolts were needed, so they just put 3 bolts on the entire construction. If you look closely at the warranty, dropping on a purpose isn't
recommended at all at REP and neither by myself.
David.
I'm excited, but also may not want to buy this first iteration. But then I talk myself out of that by saying the first iteration will be great be the Pepin's have been around for a while and worked out all the kinks...looks like I'm going to have some explaining to do to the misses. Wish me luck!
