    I’ve had ironmasters since 2013 and have used them at least several times a week since. They’ve been accidentally dropped on bare concrete, beat to absolute shit, and yet they are indestructible. The paint might be chipped on all of the plates, and oh man are the handles rusty, but they get the job done as well as they did a decade ago.

      The question I ask myself when someone reviews all the latest dumbbells is: "If I had my time again would I choose any of the new dumbbells over Ironmaster?" and the answer would be no.

      I found nuobells mixed with ironmasters is a win for me. I keep the ironmasters set up over 80 lbs and have the heavy handle kits. But for the quick adjustments on the nuobells it can't be beat.

      @buddhaoli I bought their IM2000 like 4 years ago and I love it but I can't see spending $700 on their dumbbell set. A lot of their stuff seems way overpriced for what you get anymore.

    • @ryeann2567

      Ironmaster is the only choice for people who are actually strong (80lbs are warmup sets), and who actually use their gear. You will inevitably drop or set down a dumbbell harder than an angel fart, which breaks the Nuobells. What good is ultra fast adjustment when it's sitting in the corner broken?

    Thank you for doing this video. This video is a great help for when I'm able to "upgrade."
    I have the Bowflex adjustable weights. It's great to have watched this video. The thought that they'd come apart while working out is scary, especially when doing an exercise over my face or over any part of my body.

    Trying to apply this buying advice in Europe (Germany) is so difficult as pricing is all over the place over here.
    Some listed as "most affordable" in the video sell for 400€+, even the Bowflex SelectTech 552. There's a local Powerblock 2.4 Sport version were the pair sells for ~170€.
    But those only go up to 24 pounds and I'm not really sold on the shape of the blocks/balance, tho I also don't want to spend like 400€ on a pair of dumbbells.

    For the $ can't beat FitRx smartbells $200 /pair for 5-52.5lb or $300/pair for 10-90lb. They are very similar to Bowflex SelectTech except use quick hand adjust (like nuubells vs the side dials) . Would like to have seen Coop do a review!

    Finally got my Trulap's last week, and the stand a few days ago ! I love those shiny Buzz Lightyear dumbells ❤. The weight cap of 92 lbs is great ! I find the dumbell plates dont rattle and swing to a distracting degree. The tactile texture of Trulap is great, the knurling is great, the click of changing weights is lovely, and when I pull the dumbells out, the steel on steel slide of the plates feels like I'm drawing a sword !❤ Bought them on Black Friday for $80 ofd and took 6-8weeks to recieve them

  • @Beckermao
    @Beckermao 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Did you drop a set of power blocks on your nuts before this video? The design hasn’t changed significantly since the 90s and you have tested them numerous times so you know them well but you can’t say anything positive about them in this video without immediately quantifying it with something negative. Iron masters also haven’t changed since the 90s but you lack the same negative and dismissive attitude for them. Both great durable dumbbells with decent price points.

    • @BrandonSchwartz1
      @BrandonSchwartz1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's just the newer twist handle designs have really eaten into their market whereas Ironmaster hasn't been significantly challenged in their niche since they've always been for people who don't mind slow changes, want an indestructible dumbbell that can be dropped, and have the highest weight limit of any adjustable out there (excluding loadable handles with 25lb plates or something).

    • @zippy753
      @zippy753 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      He's a youtuber and goes where the money is....take his reviews with a grain of salt. Nuobells and similar will fail eventually due to complexity but that doesn't matter to him because they are easier to use and he gets paid to promote them. At the end of the day it's not complicated and you're just lifting weights and we all know that simpler designs are more robust.

      Yeah I don't know what he's saying about size. My U-90s aren't that big and I've had them for 10 years now. No way his top pick will last that long. The competition is getting better but I think Powerblocks are still the best overall when you factor in ease of use, cost, and durability. Every adjustable has compromises.

    I bought Ironmasters in October and do not regret it. I think the only way they lose is, as you mentioned, you are supersetting AND need to adjust weights for that specific superset. Otherwise you can do the adjusting during your rest time anyway. Plus you can expand the set and buy other attachments/accessories (weight vest, straight bar, EZ bar, etc.).

    • @joshgarofalo2544
      @joshgarofalo2544 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I got around this by buying hex dumbbells up to 50lbs (5lb increments), plus IronMaster with the heavy handle kit.
      Dumbbells start getting big and expensive after 50lbs, so I dodge that. But, I have all of the lighter weights available for supersets or shorter rest periods. Wife also appreciates it.
      I leave the IronMasters loaded at 55lbs. I use them for everything heavier. The heavy handle kit also makes these feel better as it shortens the handle length.
      Best of both worlds.

      @michaelmoody5886 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I have the 175s and I love them too. They are insanely big when you get above 130ish, but if you’re tall and big they are not too bad. My only gripe is the stand. I wish the had a walkthrough stand. It is tough grabbing the higher weight all hunched over. On the plus side I 12.5-175 for $1700. No better value out there if you lift heavy.

    It's about time Nuobells start getting called out for their terrible build quality, though you didn't go far enough. The little plastic cam followers are practically guaranteed to fail sooner or later and when that happens they are NOT repairable, you have to buy a whole new handle. For what they cost, it's really inexcusable. I guess GGR doesn't give a damn about how long stuff will last.

      What are you talking about? Coop literally states they should be metal instead of plastic, and they recommended other dumbbells for durability. So, what's the problem? They gave a very fair an objective view of them. If durability is your priority, then yeah there are better choices, but they literally said that in the review.
      Besides, I've had mine 2 years and they are almost indistinguishable from when they were new, despite training 6 days a week and 2 of my housemates also using them 2-3 times a week. The mechanism works perfectly, all the plastic parts are in good knick, and I've even dropped them a few times without any problems. The vast majority of user reviews are also overwhelmingly positive too, so they're clearly not as "terrible build quality" as you claim.

    • @plmn93
      @plmn93 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nathan_middleton_ I'm glad you like them. Look up Average Joe's Nuobell teardown to see how they are built. I'd link it for you but every time I do my posts are deleted for some reason. It's not a matter of if they fail, it's a matter of when, and when they do they are not serviceable. In my opinion such a disposable design is not acceptable in a $700+ dumbbell. Coop himself states he personally knows of many failures. Good luck with yours.

    The Ironmaster Dumbbells are the best of the bunch. I bought the 45 lbs set with the Micro Plate Kit. The Ironmaster stand however, is not a quality stand and the PRO stand is expensive. I ordered the H-6979 Height Adjustable Machine Table (24” x 18”) from Uline with the H-6862 Lockable 4” Casters. It’s perfect for storing a set of dumbbells, plates and accessories. The table rolls smoothly and it can handle 500 lbs with the casters or 1500 lbs without the casters. I bought a set of Gorilla Grip silicone mats from Amazon to protect the table and dumbbells from scratches. The setup looks awesome in my gym.

    • @Fluster
      @Fluster 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Crabguts I picked it because of the ease of use, compact space and its familiarity to a regular dumbbell. Additionally, because I live in Hong Kong, Nuobells are one of the few options that are easily available to purchase online. I have had them for about a month now and have had no issues whatsoever. It feels good, the quick-changing mechanism is snappy and nice, and it takes up very little space. But, when I shake it or move it, it does make some clanging noises which I am still a bit scared of. I think this is probably normal, but I am still a bit sketched and paranoid about doing exercises like overhead triceps extensions because I am scared of the plates falling. This is probably just me, and it is most likely secure. Other than that’s it’s been perfect. I am happy to answer questions if you have them.

    I bought Snode AD80s with the magnets last November and I'm generally happy with the purchase. I've done a couple of things to enhance my enjoyment of it. I bought a pair of Mad Spotter pros so I'm able to position these better when I do some heavy presses and make weight adjustments via magnets. When I use the magnets I place them inside the dumbbell plates closest to the handle. The 4-8 magnets has never come off unless it's dropped. I've tried placing it on the outside plate and even on top/bottom but drops tend to damage the paint or scuff up the magnet. Overall I'm thrilled to own these (as well as the filthy-diesel cast iron stand)!

    I disagree hard and recommend never to pick up the nuobells. I've had a pair for 3 months and one accidentally slipped out of my hand dropping from knee height and BAM. The end.
    It was a pain getting them fixed through warranty the process was long and super hold-offish. I really don't recommend the plastic adjustable dumbells.

    I don't believe in complicated mechanisms, they are perishable, I prefer the simple plug-in construction of the ironmaster, even though it may not be so easy to change the plates.There is already a copy of the iron master in china, the "master legend", and the construction of its dumbbell plates is even more convenient than that of the iron master, unlike the iron master's full shaped plates, they have a cut-out in the bottom of the plates, which means that you don't need to pull the pins completely out in order to change the plates, and a pair of dumbbells with a total weight of 98kg only sells for $245 .

    Quick reminder on TRULAP: Based on very quick research it looks like this is most likely a Chinese company using an original Chinese design, but using Canada as a North American front for their business. The address on their site is a self-storage unit in Calgary, i.e. Sentinel Self Storage, their website is riddled with spelling mistakes, and their ToS is a generic template copied off of the internet. This doesn't mean the dumbbells aren't high quality but it is information worth knowing.
    EDIT - it looks like they updated their address. It was 7725 112 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T3R 1R8. It's now 135a 250 Aero Link Ne T2E 7X8, Calgary, Canada. It appears to be a logistics company/warehouse but it also appears to have multiple, obviously related business, operating out of that location.

    MX selects get no love from coop. I got some MX select 55s with a stand off of craigslist and I'm happy with them. The 55lb version is of reasonable compactness and I have a set of Pepin screwlocks for whenever I need heavier. One problem that I had initially with the MX selects was that sometimes the plates would stick together and a loose plate would pull out of the holster. It would stay stuck to the side of the dumbbell and then fall off unexpectedly when you started a movement. Not good... I discovered that if you shuffle the plates around you can find an order where none of them stick together. The thing is though that you now have to place the dumbbells back into their holster the same way every time to make sure that the order of the plates remain unchanged.
