      Laura Hillenbrand is a major talent, especially when you consider how debilitated she is by chronic fatigue syndrome. Come to think of it, that might we why she writes so empathically about people (and a horse) facing seemingly insurmountable challenges.

    I always watch this video for motivation the night before a race 💪💪
    9/6/23: back here again for a 5k race :) not in peak shape but I hope to get under 21:00
    9/15/23: here again, my last race was a tough one, lots of sand, I got 21:32… tomorrow is my next race and I will definitely get under 21:00!
    9/22/23: things happen, I got 21:18… I have my next race tomorrow and I’ll set a smaller goal and hit it 👍
    9/23/23: I was aiming for 20:30 and I got 20:28! Setting a smaller goal helped a lot. I got one more race, gotta make it count…
    10/4/23/: My last chance to break 20 is tomorrow… varsity is running a different race so I get to run in varsity at my race 😊
    20:38 💀💀

    • @TheGiantKillers
      @TheGiantKillers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Well, Zamperini finished 8th so, despite the fast last lap, finishing 8th in an Olympic final isn't really that noteworthy. Even if his speed attracted Hitler's attention. After all, the film shows two Brits toiling at the rear. One of them went on to be a highly decorated war hero, but nobody in the UK remembers him for his Olympic exploits.

    • @JoeARedHawk275
      @JoeARedHawk275 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      xcrunner trackrunner Louis Zamperini was able to run a near 4 minute mile and he said he could run a sub 4 minutes mile, if that’s the case, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to show them running at that pace because they are Olympic runners. You aren’t so you found it absurd, but they’re that good

    • @robertb1893
      @robertb1893 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Your statement doesn't make any sense even if they were running 4 minute pace for significant part of the early race which I doubt they were given his time that wouldn't be sprinting for him that would be mile pace. They are showing them here at an all out sprint for the entirety of the race as if they're running 50 second laps it's inaccurate and all of my friends on the xc team are infuriated by the blatant ignorance on distance running displayed by the director of this movie.

      Um, I wouldn't call that "full on sprinting." At the start they are clearly jogging. Its just that they can't show a full 5000m race without boring the audience, so they just show the beginning, where its slow, and then cut to the end, where everyone does start sprinting.

      @Will Menendez I've researched this and this is what I found. "There is no evidence that Mutsuhiro aka “The Bird” Watanabe was ever an Olympic athlete or that he even attended the 1936 Olympics". If that was the case, the filmmakers would've probably picked Miyavi to play this scene as well because it was just a few years before WW2 broke out. Watanabe's features could not have changed so drastically in such a short time.
