    I’ll keep my 99N4. It’s solid, talked to Australia while driving in Idaho, and I like the amp deck switch and pretty lights.

    You are absolutely correct about the 'other' guy being off frequency. After seeing my radio on a spectrum analyzer and frequency counter perform perfectly, I refuse to keep twisting my clarifier just to make that other guy happy. It is HIS problem, not mine! Simply spend a few minutes listening to the popular SSB channels and you can tell who has had the golden screwdriver in theirs by an untrained tech.

      I am pretty sure my Old Uniden grant Xl needs a tune up. I don't know anyone around me who can do it though. I listen to other big guys and dial in off them. I don't have a frequency counter, so I have no Idea if i am on or not. So far no one has yelled at me to get on frequency. I just hope I don't sound like Mini mouse and they think I am a female on the other end.

    Nice rig. I hear what you’re saying about the coarse clarifier being used as a “fine tune” - The coarse clarifier has always functioned like a +5 kHz / -5 kHz switch effectively for me.
    The fine tune clarifier is for fine-tuning on SSB for sure. Works great with a 6-digit counter. I ran a old Superstar 3900 with that setup, the fine and coarse clarifier tracked on RX and TX, that was a solid SSB radio, and a great AM rig). Did it have the audio my Galaxy 959 had? Nope, but it still sounded great, especially with an Astatic 636L or M6B amplified mic.

    Loved the video, i been a cb user for years driving truck. I am 65 retired truck driver and want to get into having a base or cb with a linear amp. I don't know which way to go as a new user that isn't rich, should i get a base station or 10 meter cb with a linear amplifier i guess needing some advice. I want to be able to get out cross country, you never know when the crap is going to hit the fan and we will need a good long distance rig!!

    • @ericthiel4053
      @ericthiel4053 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean, just a decent radio with a linear will get you talking the distance. The legality issues with amps keeps a lot of these shops from even talking about them. Something like this would make an awesome base station with a lot of capability but it is a pricey option. If just basic operations on the CB channels only is what your looking for, you could make a base station out of a decent cobra model, good antenna and good Mic, with a linear hooked up to it for that extra distance, you don't even need much extra for the basics as far as power goes. Have a good tech in a reputable shop tune it down for you before hooking extra power and use really good antenna wire and connections.

    One day, if I ever win the lotto, I'll have one of these high power Ranger radios....I'd love either this model (or the FFC6), the RCI2970N4 or the Longhorn Superior N6. I like the footprint of RCI69FFB6(C6) and 2970N4 more than the Longhorn I think, but that is splitting hairs I don't have....cause all of them are outside of my reach, I am getting by on a little Stryker 94HPC

    Hey there. I purchased a X9HP and found out I couldn't dial in 28.312 Mhz. That's the frequency our ham group uses every night at 7:00. I'm guessing it's because of not having coarse tune. So, what I'm asking is, will the FFB6 dial in 28.312?

    Since these are unobtainium here in Europe: Do you think it outperforms a Lincoln II+ in SSB-Modulation? Not speaking of power, thats what my KL-703 is here for. I would like to import one of those, just for the Collection.

    The amount of power you get from a "peaked and tuned" radio is negligible and will make very little to no difference on the receiving end. At $800+ I'll just get an HF radio - a brand new Yaesu FT-891 is $680.

    • @Rooster_Radio
      @Rooster_Radio  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Here you are providing false information. Im sure it's not intentional, you probably just don't know any better, but I'll help you by doing a video in the future that demonstrates the difference in a stock performing radio vs one that has been tuned.
      Next you made a comment about an HF radio. If we're comparing Radio to radio with the exact same antenna, your HF radio would need an amplifier attached to it to compete with this radio, so add that to the expense.
      Otherwise a 100 watt PEP hf rig vs a 700-800 watt PEP radio? HF rigs aren't performing on AM like this radio.
      I own an icom 7700, $6000-$7000 radio when it was new... I would know

      I'll just stick to my Chinese POS Anytone AT-5555n with no freq drift, full VFO capable, 12, 11, & 10 meter capability and all the bells and whistles that One expects from a high end radio for under $300.00. What can I say. Oh and a solid 1.5 - 75 watts right out of the box should you need to run a little extra power. 👍👌😉✌️

    • @jackrider57
      @jackrider57 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No radio like this will compete with a HF rig on RX filtering on AM or SSB.And yes, the HF radio will not compete audio wise on AM,however,SSB audio quality on the HF radio will be better.Those high power radios such as this ranger,that has the amp on the bottom of the case ,will change frequency as that amp heats up.Hot air rises and floats up thru the oscillator circuit.Just don't get long winded.

    Buy a used ham radio and get it over with. This cb should never drift with todays technology. I had 2550 and a 2510. A 2570 and not one of them ever drifted off freq. New radios are sub standard. Your paying for the box and switches with some lights.

    If you want to talk on ssb buy a HF rig. That is just a glorified CB with more power and more frequencies. You can buy an icon 7300 pay $1,000 it'll be 10 times the radio.✌️🇺🇸

      If you want to talk on ssb and ONLY want 100 watts, don't waste $1000 on an icom, buy yourself an Anytone5555n2 for 1/3 of the price. They sound amazing and won't cost nearly as much as the Icom 🙂
