I met Ron Keel a few years ago for a fundraiser for his wife. It was one of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen. During his set, he called his wife at home and played to her - not the audience, but to her. He focused on her the entire time. Never once did he look at the audience. Honestly it dragged out a few teardrops out of me. It was so lovely and sincere (she was going through cancer treatments at the time.) Later that night after his set I went up to him to share my thoughts. And to empty my pockets - I gave him - literally- every dollar and cent I had on me. He thanked me, gave each a bro hug, and took some pictures together. I told him I'll pray for her. I heard she was doing better. I'm glad. Fuck cancer!
@Metalmanparts Same show with Winger, and Joel Hoekstra from Whitesnake in Northern Illinois? I think the place was called Buffalo Rose or something like that. Ron was really cool. Glad his wife is doing better. Thanks for the update. 🤘

I've been fortunate to be able to call Ron a friend for over twenty years now. Just a fan from the eighties that caught an Iron Horse show then took my wife to one. Then we made many road trips to see them through the early 2000's and still travel to see him whenever we can. It's nice to see the Iron Horse era getting some exposure. The Iron Horse shows usually were two long sets with the Iron Horse songs, some good heavy classic rock type covers and a half dozen Keel songs.

I thoroughly enjoy these band documentaries. When you mentioned the kid in The Right To Rock video not wearing headphones with his boombox, it was a rather odd statement. No one wore headphones walking down the street with a boombox. They carried them around to be played loud and proud. LOL
F'ing A we did - or we cradled them one handed riding our ten-speeds no handed, flying down the street - Ozzy, Sabbath, Maiden, Dio, etc. Headphones were for walkmans - with your hands busy delivering newspapers. Millenials just don't get it... I totally forgot about these guys!

I found these guys when I was 11 or 12 possible 13 n found this band from men in black. They were a early opening to Metal for me and later on I found my love for Metal, Punk n Hardcore.
Loved Keel. Speed Demon is on my muscle car mix which I play in my restored ‘74 Challenger. Ron’s vocals always kicked ass! Still trying to wrap my head around him doing country music today. That voice was made for metal!
I have never been a Keel fan. I just could not get into their music and Ron Keel's singing. The only reason that I bought the Steeler album is Yngwie Malmsteen . He is my all time favorite guitar player, and has been since 1986. Yngwie's guitar playing on the Steeler album is PHENOMENAL.
The same boring licks with a very bad voice ! Mab is faster proficient then malmsteen inpelliterri the same ! ...not to mention self destroying his career

Another good one. Keel are sort of a second tier rock/metal band. Whatever that something extra is to put you over the top, Keel never quite got there. But they are fun to listen to and have their share of catchy tunes.
Keel was outside my area of interest but once again, another super fun retrospective! I knew Keel had returned to his country/southern roots but hadn't heard any of that material before. His voice really genuinely works for that style, especially getting way from the 80s falsettos and shrieks. Good for him for carving a unique path from 80s hard rock to current times.

Ron is an underrated musical legend. He did it his way and did it damn well for decades, and put out some classic music. Gotta salute the man for the career he put together.
Great video. Keel is a really cool band. I really love their 1987 self-titled album. I am kind of bummed though that Cold Sweat, Marc Ferrari’s post-Keel band didn’t get a mention. Their first and only album Break Out is really good.
What a time to be alive! The Final Frontier blew me away...wore that cassette tape out! LOL - Glad Ron is still making music...have a couple of his Ron Keel Band albums and he's not lying, he likes singing covers...but he's good at
Saw this band in the 80's in Pasadena TX. Accept was the headliner. Helix also played on the bill. Bought my ticket at Texas Tapes and Records on Spencer Hwy which included a backstage pass to meet the bands. What a great night that was.
Always thought the KEEL record was a little over-produced(compared with their other lps),a little too"shiny",but I played through 2 cassettes of that album,so obviously I still loved it to death....To this day,"4th of July" STILL comes out AT LEAST once a year....VERY addictive album.....When "Somebody`s Waiting" hit the radio,I got goosebumps and was so proud of these guys, that they took a huge step and EVERYONE had to love this band...and then.........
Another excellent rockumentary on an obscure metal band most people have never heard of or long since forgotten (except for the Steeler album). As always I learned something new... I had no idea Ron Keel grew a beard and went country in the 90s! KUDOS on another video done well.
I like the way that you cover these groups. You have a distinct and interesting way of doing so. I enjoy how you share samples of songs from different albums and the way you give insight on some of the videos, along with the albums you recommend most. And this episode is one of my favorites with some really interesting moments. I never knew that Ron had formed and fronted a band with mostly female members, and that he was in a group that did such an interesting mix of country and hard rock. I plan to look into more of IronHorse's music and am thinking of getting their albums. Given the way that you cover music videos, if you ever do an episode of Quiet Riot, you should cover all of the videos they did from Metal Health to Twilight Hotel, as they are all connected with the mask that appears in them. Some other names that I'd be excited to see you do would be L.A. Guns, Lita Ford, Winger, Dokken, Twisted Sister, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Dio, Queensryche, Accept and Metal Church.
Your videos are some of the most entertaining and informative that I have found. A viewer can tell right away that you are a genuine fan. Your music video commentaries are superior and are my favorite parts of your video lectures at Metal School. I watched this one and tried once again to find a way to like Keel. But even back in the 80's when I listened to them (Steeler or Keel) I always felt embarrassed for them for some reason. Kind of like when a middle-aged soccer mom dresses like a metal head and tries to rock out with her kids at a concert to show them how it's done. I dunno? But the talent and determination of this band are undeniable, and I respect them. It just doesn't click with me. I celebrate all those who love Keel and hope they keep the flame in all of its manifestations! Looking forward to what you have in store for us next! Thanks!
Man I had forgotten about "somebody's waiting" until I saw this. Completely jogged my memory of loving that tune and that album as a 7th-grader. I went looking and what do you know - I still have my original cassette. In fact I have all of Keel's first three albums still!
Again on of my suggestions… and Ron has recently gone back to his Roots, sold all the expensive automobiles, drives a beat-up old pick-up truck and has released a couple of solid country records… “Lay down the law” and “Keel” are still in my rotation… my favourites include “The Right to rock”, “Speed Demon”, “Metal generation” and “if love is a crime (I wanna be convicted) I’m almost certain Yngwie Malmsteen might have been in Steeler, I mean he was also in Alcatrazz in 83. Dang it, I’m a little late 😂😂😂

Ron is an underrated musical legend. He did it his way and did it damn well for decades, and put out some classic music. Gotta salute the man for the career he put together.
"The right to rock" video is the best music video of the mankind history. Keel´s my favourite band, with Twisted Sister.
Always loved this band, and now I've got more to get. The Iron Horse stuff sounds brilliant!
Great video. Keel is a really cool band. I really love their 1987 self-titled album. I am kind of bummed though that Cold Sweat, Marc Ferrari’s post-Keel band didn’t get a mention. Their first and only album Break Out is really good.
I was at Keel's first show at Perkin's Palace, I was 16 or 17. They killed it! If I remember correctly, Stryper opened that show.
I think Keel and Stryper sound similar. Like sibling bands lol
I appreciate everyone’s comments, both good and bad…
Marc, join me on Into the Pit channel sometime 🤘🤘🤘
Tears of fire is a fantastic song!
What a time to be alive! The Final Frontier blew me away...wore that cassette tape out! LOL - Glad Ron is still making music...have a couple of his Ron Keel Band albums and he's not lying, he likes singing covers...but he's good at
Mike Is Such a Great
Guy and Player!!
He was awesome in Steeler🤘🤘🤘🤘and yngwie was awesome in Steeler 🤘🎸🎸
great video history
Not my band - but a great video as always. But honestly - I did not expect anything else!
These are d band I "worshipped" in to.
Since highschool. :)) \m/
Awesome video👍👍
Never heard of them, but I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks!
Been a fan a long time.
Speed Demon and Back to the City never get old !
Such a great channel
I like that band. Ron Keel Is A Best lead vocals from Keel.
Man I had forgotten about "somebody's waiting" until I saw this. Completely jogged my memory of loving that tune and that album as a 7th-grader. I went looking and what do you know - I still have my original cassette. In fact I have all of Keel's first three albums still!
Again on of my suggestions… and Ron has recently gone back to his Roots, sold all the expensive automobiles, drives a beat-up old pick-up truck and has released a couple of solid country records…
“Lay down the law” and “Keel” are still in my rotation… my favourites include “The Right to rock”, “Speed Demon”, “Metal generation” and “if love is a crime (I wanna be convicted)
I’m almost certain Yngwie Malmsteen might have been in Steeler, I mean he was also in Alcatrazz in 83.
Dang it, I’m a little late 😂😂😂
The list has grown…… add Junkyard, Helix, LA Guns & Blue Oyster Cult to it😉
I think the kid in Right to Rock video was the inspiration for Joe Dirt. Perfect match.
I really loved TFF - I was a soph in high school.
I never knew that Because The Night was a cover when it was released back then...
