I feel like you needed to explain to Shaq why it's so egregious that Pete Rose was banned. How he has BY FAR the most hits in baseball history, yet isn't in the hall of fame because he bet on his OWN team to win games. As a player? No. Not while he was a player and set the record for most hits. No, he got banned for betting on his OWN team to win when he became a manager. He shouldn't have been betting. No question. But, he wasn't throwing games and he didn't do it as a player (no evidence).

All it takes is an athlete getting in with the wrong people. They get something on that athlete. Then they "compromise" for this athlete saying they can get off the hook by simply just doing these things in a few instances to make good. When in reality those people could have targeted the athlete with that very end in mind. And with so many "legit" parlors ready to take money for bet there's infinite way to get a bet down. There's just too much temptation with the human element involved, and its bad for sports that they're now just straight up in bed with and advertising for these betting outlets.
