I mean, its pretty obvious since a lot of youtubers are praising the heck out of Starfield and giving it a positive review... Despite the game being very mild, main story poorly written, lots of Todd Howard lies, boring as heck. and buggy as well.

I can’t wait until the large majority of pc and Xbox gamers actually PLAY this game, and realizes just how widespread the misleading reviews were, and how hype master influencers dictated what they believed about Starfield. It’s a 7/10 at best, and I can’t wait to see everyone come to realize that.
I think it is disingenuous to say negative reviews are misleading. There are many that make very relevant points that effectively confirmed for me I would not enjoy playing this game. I didn't like FO4 and from the hours I've seen of this game being played it looks monotonous and riddled with little chores (and by chores I mean.. how fluid is the game play and how often am I being taken out of immersion).
I remained neutral about this game until it was released. I had no expectations, but I really did want to want to play it and I had hopes for it.

The most exciting thing about Starfield is that it is finally out and they will now finally shift focus on ES6. By release time, it will only have been about 20 years since Skyrim...well done Bethesda.
Based on the reaction of Starfield, I'm curious to know if the backlash will impact the Elder Scrolls or force them to course correct. Wonder if they waited way too long or if it won't matter anyways

Never buying another product from them again. 20 year wait for ES fans who are the reason they even exist... the last 3 games they released are all subpar, one being absolutely awful, they are still using the same outdated engine that every single person is tired of at this point... and now they are going full blown woke. Looking at this after Baldur's Gate 3 conversations is such a stark contrast. Looks like you are talking to a corpse. The living companions look like having a conversation with corpse using Animate Dead.
I can't wait for modders to add to the game on all the other planets that aren't hand crafted for the story, They gave a lot of semi-blank planets to mod with and I can't wait to see what type of art is created on them

It is fallout reskinned no one can say this game looks next Gen I was shocked how bad textures look pop in the distance Assassins Creed is more polished game. It's a improvement are you serious we are giving them $70 for a finished polish game very dated a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

After Cyberpunk I no longer get "excited" about games, we'll see what it brings to the table when it's released.
You want No Mans Sky, buy that game, this is not that game (which after a terrible launch is a fantastic space game with amazing free expansions) I appreciate a honest review not a click baiting glorified blog that game websites have become. My only concern is that this game will not get support from a failing industry of "mainstream" gaming journalism.
This is a great review. I am absolutely considering buying the game after the review. It Looks to be a great space adventure. And i just want a good game out of bethesda, It doesn't have to be 10 out of 10. No microtransactions，less bugs，more freedom，more persuasion with ur mouth. Less bad optimization in terms of graphics.

I wasn't really excited from the start. Yet another star traveler so I was looking for something to stand out beyond the exploration.
Unfortunately there is too much "for Bethesda standards" and for all the joy they've provided in my previous years, this doesn't seem fresh in terms of gameplay/ story/ setting compared to other games I can already play. My time is worth something and I don't see how Starfield has crossed the line I've set for myself. No biggy considering that I haven't played Fallout 76/ Mass Effect Andromeda etc. and the world building/ reaction seems to be as dead as when Cyberpunk 2077 launched.
For games this long in production and so many years after like No Man's Sky/ GTA 5 etc. there is simply no excuse for me that they go with a new IP as they would have 10 years ago. I'll go play the old Mass Effect games despite their outdated graphics because they are still enjoyable. I go play No Mans Sky if I dig space exploration and I go play BG3 if I want my decisions to matter in the story I'm playing. I guess a younger me would be excited, the older me couldn't be bothered.
I just want Baldur's gate 3 to win game of the year awards this year because true RPGs need a return.

It still confuses me when anyone brings up “casual” with fallout 4, anything after the OG fallout 1 & 2 have been casual, and oblivion and Skyrim are casual as hell.

I am personally really not sold on Starfield.
So far I've had horrible performance despite having a beast of a PC. I encountered at least 2 bugs per hour and 3 game breaking ones within the first 8 hrs. The main mission is kind of boring. I also really dislike how you can't even fly off in your ship into space. It's just constant loading screens.
Currently i can't give it over a 6. It's a 7 if bugs get fixed but i really expected more :(. Still a fun experience but it's nowhere near Game of the Year that we had hoped.
You did make it to 100 plus hours in the game

Its a tough game to review because depending on what you expected from the game you can either love it or be disapointed. And i think its completely fair that some people expected good space travel, combat and exploration, which this game does neither very well.
Yeah, and have an FOV slider, and gamma brightness/contrast adjustment options, and non-ass-retardation inventory management, and a mini-map for major cities at least, and not look like it's from 2009....you know, all the stuff that even modern day single A and AA games have...

People think 9/10 is a normal score when its near perfect. Reviews from IGN and others are normally to high scores on games maybe they have started to do it right now.

It’s actually a pretty sad game to have been in production for so damn long. I am quite disappointed with the characters and the game play so far. They tout ship building but what’s the point? I stay in the shit maximum 30-45 seconds before I’ve teleported to where I need to go…. This game is killing me when you’ve got bg3 that just blew my mind away from a small ass company and a AAA can’t even produce a fun space game… like tf man.

Don't listen to this guy. This game is pretty boring and crap so far.... I am struggling to get into it.... It feels like its on rails. Stuck to loading screens. Space exploration and flying in space is TERRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. There is almost no point to being in space. The space flight feels like the background is just a picture and that you are just in a fish bowl because you literally cannot fly anywhere in space!!! You cannot approach any planet or place. The intro is super boring... The narrative is super boring so far. This guy is clearly a paid reviewer. Cause I have no idea where he got this great review from.
Nearly everything he says is wrong. This game feels like a worse fallout so far. Not to mention that it crashed within 1 hour with no error reason given or notice of any kind. Just a crash to windows.
There is no warning of what is dangerous within buildings such as items that can blow up and kill you in 1 hit. Dude, its so lame so far... Maybe it will get better as I play more, but so far, it feels like a $30 game that's in beta... It started pretty interesting in the first 5 minutes, then it just bombs very fast after that.
He is totally lying about the dialog.... It is virtuallly the same as fallout... The gun play feels worse than fallout so far as there is no vats. Vats made it really fun. This feels so far empty.
Do not go into this game expecting a ton like he says. Like, going into a planet, there is nothing to explore. You cannot even fly your ship at all in a planet. Like 0%. You can just take off or land. That is it. There is virtually zero planet exploration.....
If you are looking for a real space exploration game, Emperion does it FAR better or Star Citizen.

One of the better pre release reviews I've seen. Thanks for the objective look at the game. A lot of my fears seem to have been justified, but it still seems like a very solid game otherwise and I think I can overlook them long enough for modders (such as myself) to start fixing things.

I honestly think since playing bg3 and still only halfway through my first play through… Jumping into starfield will be cool and fine, but it will not have anywhere near the depth and authentic immersive value that bg3 has. I feel like it won’t take me very long to realize that, and even though starfield will be fine for what it is… I will have disappointment in the lack of depth and more desire to play bg3 because of that immersive no apologies emphasis. It’s just a different kind of here. Starfield will be fine on a more skin deep level but Larians bg3 , that’s where it’s at and where you will find real immersive, authentic RPG/role-play escape.
But anyway. It is what it is.

It seems like the major complaint I'm hearing is that the ship feels pointless because you can't fly anywhere in it, and it's all broken up by tons of loading screens that break immersion. I might play this game when it goes on sale and gets some better optimization/patches because my PC is a few years old.
Skyrim is old enough to drive and is nearly old enough to vote. To go 17 (and counting) years between releases is... infuriating? I dont even know how to label how much of a let down it is.

No atmospheric flight or ground vehicles is extremely immersion breaking. It doesn’t make sense and should be the first dlc. Make planets fully explorable
Their engine is known to be very unfriendly to any attempt to make a working ground vehicle on it. Every time they had to make something like a train, or even a wagon from skyrims intro, it took an insane amount of workarounds.

At the beginning of the year I had the false idea of having the GOTY decided, I was wrong, because Baldur's Gate 3 still had no opponent in front.
yeah this review just makes that even more apparent. If BG3 doesn't win at this point it'd be an outcry. Unless there's something else releasing in the next few months. Think this is the last big game though, BG3 has got to win, especially given all the conversation it sparked about what a modern game should be, and set new bars in terms of choice and freedom.
The bugs in Bethesda games were cute twenty years ago, they aren’t anymore. This game is not going to sell consoles, it’s not what they said it was going to be, it’s exactly what I knew it would be. The “usual Bethesda jankyness” isn’t acceptable anymore! This game is trash.
I will say, reading through a lot of the comments it's pretty clear that a lot of people didn't finish the video, accusing you of selling out and things like that. Obviously they are completely wrong, because you really laid into the game in the second half. That being said, I don't think the structure of the video paints the best picture. Having all the good stuff in the beginning was bound to have an effect like that. It probably would have been better received if you swapped between good and bad intermittently. I made sure to watch the full video and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt because I've always thought you gave your honest opinion on things, and I was proven correct in the end, but even I had some questions after seeing ~5 solid minutes of praise in the beginning. It felt off.
That being said, entire review taken into consideration, I feel like you did a good job. You made me interested in the game while also preparing me for some of the bs that I'll inevitably be dealing with. I've never really liked the generated worlds idea, but hearing from both you and Gameranx that the quests and combat are both pretty good, I think I'll give it a try when I manage to squirrel some money away.

Idk why Redfall got so much hate? It was a decent game especially since it was free I really didn't mind the few bugs I came across. I enjoyed playing Redfall and didn't really have any issues with it that would make me think of a "dumpster fire". It was just like the Deathloop game that came out last year. Good but not great and definitely not bad.
Solid mid game that's getting exceptional hype due to the extreme marketing Bethesda has put into this launch, all their chips on the table. They probably need this as a studio to survive. I think It's more about those factors than how great the actual game really is. It's all nostalgia, history and excitement of a new game release that was hyped to level 10.
I think in a year or two this game will be so much better, and have some pretty great mods. Can’t wait to play it now, but also see how it develops over time.
So the usual for Bethesda, ever since morrowind. Deliver a subpar product based on the same engine you've been usiing longer then most of your playerbase is alive and let the community fix it ?

@@CreatorArchive they might have had some hickups at release especially with F76, but they are still one of the few industry standard setting companies not owned by Tencent, games like Morrowind, Skyrim, FO3 & 4 and Doom are genre defining good. Mods have added to an already great experience especially for when those titles were released and kept them presentable, but every title above was good from the getgo. The engine maybe older and sure has its shortcomings but if it works it works, just look at the still good (if not best) looking Start Citizen using the old modified Cry engine, who cares how old it is and the Creation engine is only 10 years old, i doubt that its "most of the playerbase" that buys a 70 bucks game and has the PC hardware for it at 10 years, they are literal babies & nobody cares what they think about a game engine or gaming at all because they havent been around long enough and if a company does pander to babies some abomination like Fortnite comes out that they suck at anyway and rather watch somebody on twitch play it, they just don't matter here at all😂

Have you never heard of Empyrion? Let me tell you a story... In that game, I was heading toward a planet, and my ship was attacked by patrol drones. I survived the fight but they knocked out my thrusters. I left my ship in a spacesuit. A suit that had jump boosters. I used the jump booster to propel myself toward the planet. I waited at the edge of the planets atmosphere until the planet slowly rotated where there was an ocean beneath me, then I entered the atmosphere and fell toward the water, using my suits jump booster to slow my decent until I finally landed safely in a large body of water. Can starfield give you that kind of challenge and experience?
By far the worst Bethesda game ever really. Everything is terrible with some average stuff here and there. It really is mind boggling how it is reviewing this well… or not, sadly.

Funny how willing I am to defend No Man's Sky given the gamebreaking glitch that stopped me playing... BUT I absolutely loved No Man's Sky at release, and can't possibly understand how anyone was disappointed with it then. It was the patches to the game later that truly broke it.
Honestly I'm inclined to say I don't give a toss about hand-crafted nonsense. I LIKE procedural generation if it means HUGE worlds to explore. Who even gives a toss if they're repetitive. Even in Mass Effect my favourite part was rushing around in the Mako on largely featureless planets, looking for Thresher Maws.

Agreed! When the first reveal trailer, I thought to myself, if this is fallout/skyrim in space, I'm sold. And that's exactly what it is. I love it.

Seems like Starfield could've used another year or two in the development cooker. Seems just "okay" to me. There are cool aspects to it, dont get me wrong. It seems that the passion of the developers is shown throughout much of it, but not all of the devs. Still needed a lot of work.

I got 2 words for ya: Creation Engine.
You can polish a turd all you want, the best result you can hope for is a nice and shiny turd. The Creation Engine was already ancient when BGS insisted on using it for Fallout 4. Reusing that same ancient engine again for Starfield just shows a disrespect for the customer AND your own product that I find baffling at this point.
It`s a sad fact that almost every single problem I hear about again and again in the early reviews,
(like all those loading screens EVERYWHERE, and the patch work worlds you only ever are allowed to see a limited piece of at once, or the floating NPCs...) could have been rooted out at the core if they didn`t willfully decide to halfass this from the getgo with this goddamn cursed Oldtimer of an engine.
I guess they prefer pocket the profits instead of use some for added talent, re-doing engine parts etc.

Damn, I don't know... am I biased or too spoiled by graphics in recent games, I keep watching videos on Starfield and the one single impression I get is that the game looks so - bleak? Visually boring? Unappealing? We've finally got a great game in fantasy settings and I've been so looking forward to ANYTHING good in sci-fi and this, somehow, doesn't feel that. Hopefully, actually playing the game will prove me completely wrong. :(

All of the No Man's sky comparisons at first were part of what got me excited about the damn game. I am one of the few who got no man's sky at launch and was happy with what I got, I'm not about to say they didn't deserve the backlash because they did, however it was a game that allowed me to just fulfill my inner childhood Star Trek fantasy basically I guess. I never got tired of flying directly into or out of planet atmospheres and just jumping from system to system and seeing what was out there. That game however has gone through some phenomenal changes all of which have been completely free so I think they deserve some credit for that too
Starfield to me was giving this impression that it would be basically no man's sky but with fallout 4 combat and questing, which like I said had me pretty excited because that was the kind of way I wish no man's sky went about things like questing in combat.
This however just looks like it is mostly Bethesda game in space which when you say it that way I wonder why I would have expected anything else. I think either way it's going to be something I'm really going to dig, however I'm probably going to still look for a game like No Man's sky to satisfy more of that space explorer itch, whereas this game will give me more of the satisfaction from role-playing and combat. I hope somehow they still manage to make this another one of their games that allows some kind of console nodding although I'm sure it's going to be far more complicated than fallout 4 and Skyrim were to implement that, but I can dream damn it

If I was you I would be more worried about the awful contrast and SDR implementation let alone the lack of HDR. It looks like it was mastered on an old CRT TV with 100 nits and the contrast window is extremely small. It can't even be fixed with Reshade because their is nothing their to enhance or adjust. It's literally unplayable for a lot of people. Look on TH-cam and the forums.
It's even worse on OLED panels. It's just a grey mess with extremely raised black levels and no peak brightness in SDR and HDR.
Their are no brightness, contrast or gamma settings/ sliders in the game as well. So if you have a good monitor or TV this will enhance the already tiny contrast window it is outputting.
Just like everyone else that has noticed this: It will probably hit you hard as soon as you start the game and realize it is not fog or a dust effect in the intro scene, it is not a bug and your TV or monitor or PC is not broken, this is just how the game looks. Which is very hard to believe.
We have a space game that can't display blacks as they are raised extremely high. Where everything looks grey!
The only thing people can do to play this game until they fix this is to turn your Black Level to Limited in the monitor or TV menu and that's the best image you are going to get for now.
Also keep looking in Nexus Mods for a SDR or HDR Reshade fix. Just try and make the game playable until they fix it but I did read that this isn't a mistake and it is actually a design choice. Which is very hard to believe.
I've never been so shocked at how bad a game looks on first impressions in my 40 years of gaming.

It doesn't even have reasonable SDR. That's the main problem. Switching to SDR doesn't even fix it. It expects you to play it on a Limited Black Level instead of on Full as far as I can tell.
Not even a Reshade preset can fix SDR or even HDR as the information just doesn't exist to even adjust in the first place.
The Contrast window output is incredibly small. It's like it was mastered on an old CRT TV with 100 nits.
You can see this with the HDR Analysis Reshade tool. It tells you what the game is trying to output in real time so you can change the black levels, mid tones and peak brightness.
It's like the game is only outputting very limited mid tones. It's very strange.
It looks like they made a great game and then instead of putting the cherry on top they just took a big dump on top of the cake and ruined it.
The TH-cam videos that we all saw promoting 'Greyfield' hid this better as TH-cam converts the colour and brightness scale, but when we all go back we notice it. It was always there. Which leads us all to think it was a design choice. Bizzare! It is even like this on X-Box as they are complaining as well.

Watching all these different takes on Starfield Reviews actually makes me excited to jump back on No Mans Sky, which as of latest updates makes Space exploration more exciting and cinematic than what Starfield seems to offer 😅
It's clear that Starfield and NMS aren't competitors. BUT I do think for a AAA developer it's kind of a disappointment you can't descend into planets and/ or land wherever you want. Not to mention NMS was released 7 years ago. Guess this is more about the story than the exploration of space. Still looks great though.
Tbh, it’s an engine limitation. Creative Engine is older than than NMS engine and they’re made for different purposes.
I enjoy NMS, but the pop in can be really distracting when descending. I’m guessing that they considered it, but it probably did not look great.
A lot of people and especially multi billion dollar companies have forgotten what a RPG is… Or consumers have just gradually normalized the lack there of. Having the ability to customize your avatars aesthetic looks is not the culmination of a RPG. A RPG is taking on and playing a role. That runs much deeper than aesthetic appearance. When you begin to prioritize, the aesthetic customization and not go any deeper than that… You’re leaving out the most important part of a RPG. Taking on the role. That’s how you get all these RPG lite and straight up alternate genres of open world action adventure games mistaken as some form of “rpg” . Which is bullshit.
Thank goodness for larian reminding people what a true RPG is both in terms of the design with taking on a role, and with the mechanic of immersion and transporting you into a authentic living world with authentic characters… Not scripted NPC’s . The difference of approach there is monumental when it comes to a RPG.

Could not agree more. Playing BG3 just reminded me of the feeling I had when I first played DAO, most games these days want to be RPGs, but the devs don't even try to make them that deep anymore. I'm sure Starfield will be a fine game, but I can already see the lack of depth from this review. It's just another modern RPG.

they decided to add the worst aspects of No Mans Sky (shit ship fights, tedious mining, boring environments) to an otherwise clone of Fallout 4 style game which is very last gen feeling. Alright I'm just gonna say it, this looks really unappealing. That's me. The gunplay also looks utterly terrible, lol it looks like Metal Gear Solid or some shit.

I'd argue for some this is already a great game, but there is no denying waiting for DLC, patches and mods will no doubt only make your first experience even better.
It's an A-ok game. I love Skyrim and Fallout, but compared to those games, Starfield lacks a bit of excitement for me.
Bethesda should have gone with a new engine for Starfield. The faces and especially hair are at least 2 generations old.
The facial animations are so stunted. I’ll still play the game but I feel like it could look so much better and probably run a little bit smoother.
As a PlayStation owner. I’m glad the game is good. It’s bums me out that I can’t play it. But I am glad that Bethesda may have turned the corner on Fallout 76. And that they did produce a good, if not perfect game. So all you PC/Xbox players rejoice. Cause it looks like our old Bethesda may still be there. Giving us good games. Enjoy. Who knows perhaps in the future. Us Playstation diehards will join you in the epic exploration of space. 👍 Oh great review too.

I get the feeling that I'm who you're talking about when you say the story won't be for everyone. I watched a gameplay stream for 3 hours last night and honestly I was bored. The concept just didn't interest me. Lacked any sort of existential crisis to draw you into caring about what's happening. Worlds seemed devoid of life. Terrain was uninteresting. Space combat looked janky. My thoughts were that it looked like a game I could've maybe enjoyed 10 years ago when I didn't have a job and had time to put into trying to get past all that. Like I did the first time I ever played Fallout 3.
Guys the game sucks. Just play no man’s sky if you are wanting a similar game that’s better. The game feels off and not completed.
I mean, who makes a damn space game but doesn’t allow you to fly around to explore and makes you quick travel everywhere?
Starfield looks already so much like a Bethesda game, I am really not liking that style. Never finished any Elder Scrolls game, almost finished Fallout NV, never bothered with FO4. I really don’t like the style of dialogue. So it’s not on my list, even though I love the idea of space exploration….

Comparing a new, next-gen game from Bethesda ONLY to previous games from Bethesda, is total crap. Forget the state that Skyrim, fallout 4 and others shipped in, at least those games had compelling stories, hand crafted worlds and were made 8 and 12 YEARS ago. If a new game feels like the old games, and yet doesn’t reach that height? That isn’t a bragging point. Now realize that if we compared Starfield to any of the recent PlayStation exclusives, the difference is VERY obvious. Bethesda fooled everyone yet again, lied, mislead everyone to believe what this game would be, and I for one cannot let this slide. I am done trusting in the Bethesda that I knew long ago. They are owned by Microsoft now. It will turn out the same way marvel and Star Wars turned out, when Disney bought them. I said what I said.
Xbox players have nothing else to hope for, and just as we did for Halo infinite, we try and fool ourselves into believing that the games are better than they actually are. When will us OG Xbox players finally say “enough is enough”, and make Microsoft start making GOOD games? When Phil Spencer literally says “making good games won’t fix the issue”, does that really make you have pride in what Xbox has become? Not me. I’m done.
