She's a huge Harry Potter nerd and she just wanted to play a game about being a witch set in her favorite books. Did anyone else catch the hypocrisy when it comes to journalists explaining why Resident Evil 5 is problematic when it's a 1:1 parallel with AC: Shadows?
Yep, because ACS has what is correct in their eyes. Activists often say how all Asians "have white privilege". The same logic that many Universities use as to why as a demographic they have to have higher SAT scores to get into the same colleges. There is a lot of reasons why college just isn't worth it any more, but IMO identity politics makes the top of that list. Their only concern is what they consider the equality of outcome even if they have to cut someone off at the knees to get there.
I've never heard of him, but just from that video and seeing all the comments, I can tell he was a special guy. Sorry to you guys who were fans of his, rest in peace, Totalbiscuit.
Paul Tassi gaslighting people instead of staying silent, you hate to see it. I remember when the gaming press blacklisted Hogwarts Legacy from the Game Awards despite that it was the biggest success that year.

They are not journalists but activists. And if they nominate Veilguard as goty, we should just mock them for their bad taste and how they should do push ups !
@laju6398 I disagree. Concord was a pretty big flop. But time will tell. To be honest...these games failing and their supporter's tantrums are more entertaining than the game itself.
It's very simple. We keep not buying the crappy games, we keep ignoring the supposed game journalists. These people will all be unemployed and unemployable soon enough.
Unfortunately it's not that simple, these parasites will start targeting franchises you love (unless you like extremely niche titles/genres in that case good for you). Dragon Age Veilguard is proof. Many fans will still buy it in hopes of attaining that "itch" they felt when playing the first game they played from the series. Which still funnels money to make even more slop.
Edit:keep it civil guys. I like how Journalists think 70K is good for a game when that is literally the worst a game can draw. Baldur's Gate 3 has 400K the first day it came out. Black Myth Wukong had 2 million the first launch day. 70K is not a success. And if DA Failguard is on the GOTY List and Black Myth Wukong is snubbed, WE RIOT AT THE AWARDS SHOW.
Black myth wukong had 2.4 million players as a peak only beaten out by pubg with 3.2. Hell Palworld is 3rd place with 2.1 million, 70k is worthless especially as this is done by a triple A studio and sold for AAA costs.
I'm playing it directly from the EA app, which Steam does not account for. I don't even open steam when I play it. I'm definitely not the only one that went directly to EA. The player count is just the count on steam. Not defending the game one way or another. I work a bunch and only got about 5 hours into it so far. Just saying.
If you watch the Friends Per Second Podcast where they brought Tassi on to discuss Veilguard, he states that he’s never played over 12 hours of Dragon Age Origins, 2, or Inquisition. What a shell.
I heard that podcast and he litterally couldn name anything to back his point against skillups critism. And then when he tried to talk about romances en meningsfuld choices while skillup was like he hasnt seen them😅 he is a joke in journalism😅
Tassi is a hypocritical shill who shouldn't be allowed to review games. He rated DAV 8/10 but on a podcast he literally said he only played it because he had a review code and would have never bought it himself... ya, this is why consumers read reviews, to find out if a game is worth BUYING!
@@urazz7739 I don't even think he played much of Veilguard either, he couldn't remember the names of characters he claimed he loved, and when he tried to say SkillUp were wrong about things, he couldn't think of any examples to prove his point. Was really painful to watch the full debate when he was brought on the FPS podcast
@@urazz7739to that point, not necessarily a bad thing. He should preface the review as such, but that could also lead to a review focused on JUST the game as is - and not part of a franchise. A perspective that is worthwhile. For some this could be their first DA experience, so the shift away from dark fantasy or other plot and character issues stemming from the history of the franchise, won’t matter or be known to them. Just, how is the game. That being said, the perspective of “I just played it bc it was there, and it is my JOB” clearly colors what if any objectivity he brought to his review. Does seem more like he took it as a platform to click bait pander his ideologies 🤷🏾♂️
It still shocks me when I remember he died. I was younger than he was by a few years when he made his last video and now I am older than he was when he died. What a sad reality we lost him.
"the more you enable these people structurally and systematically the more footing the gain until they become the default." Those people are either not self-aware or very self-aware and don't want other people want to use their strategy because that's the whole reason why we end up with dragon age, sweet baby Inc and other stuff that shoots over the initial goal of acceptance and equality
Journalists are just corporate simps. Nothing is above criticism and the fact they can't handle that shows that they don't belong in journalism or game design.
I feel like this is a very difficult side to be on. I agree with all of this wholeheartedly but anytime I try to voice my opinion on things I basically get called a bigot. Like you're not allowed to say I dislike the last of us 2 because they bait and switched me with the death of Joel and then forced me to play as his killer. I understand other people's views on this subject but that is my view on it and I don't like that I just get told it's because I'm a bigot and don't like gay people or whatever
People who have facts on their side will let the facts speak for themselves. So if they have have to resort to shaming, ad hominem, name calling and censorship it means that they have no arguments and don't have a leg to stand on. In other words, you're right and they're wrong and that they are too fragile to admit it.
TotalBiscuit was ahead of his time and called pretty much everything that was wrong with the industry before the vast majority of people even noticed it.
As I am writing this comment, Baldur's Gate 3 is number 6 in Steam Top Sellers. DA:Veilguard is number 8. Baldur's Gate 3 came out more than a year (!!!) ago. It currently has 68K players (Wednesday night). Veilguard has 52K. This is not a successful launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 had less than 50k on its peak and that was hyped to high heaven. I've had reservations over the DA franchise since DA2 and i'm not delusional enough to say that this isnt a successful launch in pure numbers.
@@DeeSnuttz 2077 was made by a private at the time company with a fraction of the budget of DA:V, not to mention it had a DLC that sold really well. These comparisons aren't even in the same ballpark.

When even indie games are breaking the 100k peak nowadays, DAV not even breaking 90k is laughable. If it was a success EA and games journalists would be screaming about it on all platforms. The fact that they didn't even announce that it crossed 1mil sales is indication enough.
@@Blackpapalink CD Projekt had funding from the polish government themselves and had way more hype behind it. I genuinely don't care what people call themselves, wear, feel, and ESPECIALLY do behind closed doors (as long a no one is being hurt). These people don't seem to understand, they're fighting themselves. Shoving their opinions into everything, preaching at inappropriate points, attacking heterosexual..... well, anything. Most of us just want it separate from our games. It's not the place. Paul Tassi (ruined Prime Consort Radahn for me a week after release with no spoiler warning), Jason Schreier (apparently hurling insults publicly now), etc simply aren't credible anymore. I am not a fan of people in general. I never thought the subject of something that brings me so much joy could be tainted with such needless, out of place bs. It's heartbreaking. You have a right to make a game, heavy with activism. We have a right not to buy it. You wanna make a statement or you wanna make a profit?

I’m tired of left wing identity politics. The problem is, if we speak up about it we’re just labeled as a bigot, a racist, or a sexist. I just want to play games and be left alone. I’m tired guys.
The worst part is that everyone already knows being subtle is the best way to introduce people to "new" ideas but their vanity and narcissism makes them want to hammer people in to submission.
Neither side of this incredibly complex and nuanced issue are approaching or expressing it well. (Most) Everyone is defensive, accusatory, and out for blood. That is sadly the state of modern discourse all around.
So selfidentify as bigoted, racist and sexist and erode the terms into nothingness. Like being called a nazi, it has long since lost it's sting, and throwing that back into their faces will make these leftist zealots shortcircuit. "Yea, I'm all those things and I'm going to go and have fun now. Anyone want to come have fun with the bigots? Or stay with these screechers... Okay, you're welcome to change your mind at any point. Bye now..."
Bad writing, boring exploration, tedious combat (skill, skill, skill, cooldowns - repeat), game for children (with gender politics) - what can go wrong ?
I appreciate this comment, seeing beyond the surface of the argument, for the issue. No matter the content, message, idea - it is about how it is implemented and presented and represented.
I also used to think Paul Tassi was a good one, even if I disagreed with him sometimes. Often felt like he gets unwarranted hate. But with his stunts like this, that respect certainly vanished. This isn't just about disagreeing with an opinion, this is him having compromised integrity to what transpired and what didn't. That kinda thing will immediately make a journalist lose credibility.
Excellent actual journalism you did there with digging all the evidence instead of just claiming something without any proof. You have my respect, this is what journalism should be - used to be.
Hogwarts Legacy was never hated on? "Progressives" tried to cancel tbis game due to J.K Rowling's opposite views. Funny thing is she wasnt even attached to this game. Lucky we have more people with normal functioning brains than an abnormal one
The other weird thing is that Rowling is a progressive herself. She disagrees with them on one thing, and suddenly it’s treated like a religious heresy. And the fact that they were literally accusing her of genocide in reference to Hogwarts Legacy was a clear sign that the word had lost all meaning.
"Please tell me how exactly journalists have caused this?! and please do it without pulling up any of our headlines that perfectly illustrate how unhinged and unreasonable we've been!" You'll find the lost city of Atlantis before you find accountability in any of these people.
It’s the same thing with game journalists as with politicians. They waste time pushing their ideas, fighting the consumers or opposing party without even touching on relevant information.
@@filidhdeklend893They could realistically set a timeframe after which you can give a review. Mid game or idk min 10h into the game. Something. Anything. I left reviews where I spend 100+ hours and I went into great detail why it was bad - deleted.
There has to be a compromise. Review bombing does happen. Not saying this is the best approach, or even how one can determine legit critique from thoughtless spam. Credibility…may be a long dead ideal.
The current political and cultural inclusion in the writing is cringe enough. But why do the Genshin style puzzles use the same floating batteriers and ziplines? How are Eluvians commonplace in cities? Its odd how Antiva, Tevinter, and Arlathan...etc all have the same conveyances. So much laziness.
You know I'm glad BG3 was released first. Now we all can see how terrible the writing in DAV is. Its not even writing and the roleplay is non-existent. 🤦
Frankly, you just need to look at Dragon Age Origins/Awakening to compare those two games. And that is the most fair comparison. Origins is simply superior in every way. And I dare to say even in graphics... look at comparions between the darkspawn ogres (and otherwise). DAO is far more detailed and alive that the sanitized DAV could ever hope to be.
Here is where the games "journalists" are wrong. Why they are dying. We pay attention to reviews (and learn to *trust* the reviewer) based on one thing only. We read/watch the reviewer that I searched out, take their opinion and act on it, and then judge how relevant their opinions in the review are to *my* enjoyment of the game *that I spent my hard earned money on.* And when I find ones I like, I return to that reviewer. It is the only reason I return. You know what doesn't affect which reviews I look at? An algorithm doesn't choose where I look, *I have my faves saved and subbed* already. I get *all* of their content. I also have some trash filtered... and many game journalists are on many of my filter lists. What they don't understand in their looking for someone to blame that isn't themselves is that *I chose to ignore games journalists, and focus on other sources.* I chose. Actively. Me, the consumer. And guess what? Eventually the consumer wins. Alawys. It takes time, but money talks. Bullshit walks.
I was really looking forward to a new dragon age, but after watching all the reviews and clips I could stomach, I refuse to touch this toxic political ideological garbage. Right or left, I don’t want identity politics forced down my throat in my video games. Hey, look, Enshrouded came out with new content! Guess I’ll be playing that instead.
Bioware has always been progressive in their ideology in their games, but they always made it more passive and no affect the story. The last Bioware game that did this correctly off the top of my head was Dragon Age: Inquisition with Iron Bull's second in command of his mercenary group, Krem, being trans. It's mentioned in Iron Bull's side quest, and you can ask for more details on it, but you can pretty much just move on in the conversation if you don't care when it's mentioned (pretty much the option I chose).
@@urazz7739 And THAT is how you handle this type of subject matter, with nuance and respect to the player. Modern writers are quick to forget that many games of the late 2000s-early 2010s had great queer characters who were handled with respect and dignity, without being ham-fisted for the sake of "diversity" or overly preachy/condescending towards the player. Nowadays they just use queer characters as their personal mouthpieces, and it's frankly insulting to anyone (LGBTQ or overwise) who just want good characters and a good story.
Good point about right/left. If Bioware had been bought by some fundamentalist company, and the story was how you were leading a crusade against all of Thedas in the name of Jesus Christ in order to combat the “heresy” of a female led Chantry and its Maker, people would be at least as pissed. If you want to put a them or message in a game, groovy, do it with some subtlety, skill, and maybe pick one that doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.
Be as "nice" and "fair" to these people as you want, but you are their enemy if you are not 100% aligned with them ideologically. There is no olive branch with them. Be hot and tell them he hard truths unapologetically, or be cold and ignore them, don't waste a breath on the , but don't be lukewarm.
Agreed. In the past 10 years, tolerance was afforded to these activists because everyone knows gaming culture and the community globally has always been a progressive spot where everyone can be equally roasted. It was in those 10 years, we saw how that tolerance was abused to push propaganda.
They're all just butthurt they're losing clicks & views to unaffiliated youtubers who review games on gameplay, story, character building, etc. when they review every game through the prism of social justice. They're used to sitting alone on top of the throne, being absolute authorities and the "be-all, end-all" voices for the community. They do not want to share, and hate the idea of being slowly phased out and becoming irrelevant, the raving lunatics. They'll try to strawman every argument, poison every well, attack every person they find "problematic" and deflect any criticism pointed towards them. They can dread it... they can run from it... but their time is coming to an end in the industry. We're taking back our spaces from the heart-attacked mob.
Used to be many gaming magazines back in the day in Sweden, but today only two exists on the internet and some game journalists in the main media circle. Gamereactor, the Swedish version, gives the same ratings and opinions as any outlet but sometimes can adress "the culture war" in a clumsy way that doesn't appeal to anyone. Their take on Dragon Age sounded like a good to be true sell pitch with a score of 8 of 10. Didn't even point out the horrible dialogues or the childish design and viewpoint of the franchise. But their competitors, called FZ, had the most honest review and talked about the disappointing aspects why this game is not Dragon Age anymore. 2 out of 5. I respect that.
I used to love Kotaku but then they started having this out of the world strange takes on stuff... So people would call them out and leave messages under the articles... Did they learn from this? NOoooo they removed the ability to comment on articles.... Now all articles are pure worthless dribble... I removed them from my bookmarks over a year ago and never go back
I feel like TH-cam content reporters have a more realistic view of the gamer community compared to gaming "journalists" who pander to having agendas in games and shill out positive reviews so they can keep getting press releases of games to review.
Dragon Age is the game that made me a gamer. I logged hundreds of hours on the first 3 (each game even 2). So I can say I love this franchise. I hate it! It's not good or a dragon age game. Stop taking big franchises with fans and screwing them over. That's not how you win people over, by destroying the things they like. That seems like common sense. They could have just made a new IP, it wouldn't have sold, but no one would be actively hating you for messing up a beloved game. Plus a billion dollar franchise would still be going.
Star Wars, Star Trek, Willow, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, DC, Discworld, the list goes on of franchises that have been damaged, if not ruined, by staggering incompetence and shrill rhetoric.
The 'extreme' voices on diversity as you called them, only started when it wasn't about being equal anymore, the dangers being brought forward / covered up, voices and people being cancelled or attacked because they brought up reasonable concerns or questions.. Lets ignore that part, which has so much proof alone on YT, it should be a concern..
Game journalists are supposed to be unbiased for the sake of the gamers so we can make better judgements on which games to give our time and money too. But when any gamer with an IQ above average can read between the lines and doesn’t bite the shit sandwich everyone else is eating we get labeled as problematic. We just realize these stamps of approval are just walking advertisements for both the journalist platform and the game company.
While Hogwarts Legacy had it's issues with the LGBT propaganda, it was not even near on the point of blatant grooming of Dragon Age, there was just one character and a single scene, the design of the character wasn't as obnoxious as the other character and one could argue that in a game like Hogwarts Legacy they can bundle some nonsense as it has always been portrayed as a sort of joint magical universe. I am not really happy about that it was done, however to go the extent to say that it was a bad game is far reach, in it's core it was fun magical experience that didn't spoon feed you LGBT nonsense, in fact the first time i actually missed it and sort of figured it out half way through the game, it just wasn't the focus of the game.
So what color should the zombies be if the game takes place in Africa?¿? I love how no one had a problem when the 4th game took place in Spain and all the zombies were Spaniards. Chris Redfield isn't a racist character so yeah I don't know how anyone connected those dots outside of being insane. Better not do the next game in Australia or someone will cry over zombie kangaroos and koalas 😂.
One thing you have to know is that, Paul Tassi of the past is not Paul Tassi of the present - I've been noticing his downward trend over the last year or two, maybe even more?. He's actually leaning more into being a grifter himself (Look at his tweets, how he interacts on twitter, how he dismisses middle-of-the-road criticisms, how he's more interested in a fight rather than a discussion, and how when on the FPS podcast he barely stood up for his own opinions on his review but will lash out online)... I honestly don't think I've seen him do any real critical writing or interesting Journalism since Destiny2 "ended".
"TH-cam and Twitter is dangerous" the only place where consumers can make their voice heard. They only want to force feed their nonsense while drowning every opposition. The fact that some people fall for this is terrifying
These guys keep gaslighting us saying we’re the problem, we’re the problem, and dare to cite things like, “Oh there’s a freakout anytime anything remotely woke is in a game.” They know that’s disingenuous because for nearly a decade now they’ve been screeching about every kind of -ism under the sun being in games when it’s just not there. We’re not the problem. It’s entirely on one side.

Be careful LK. I understand your passion and it is justified. Just be sure it doesn't become an obsession. We gamers have already learned not to take any of these reviews at face value. In fact, I've been ignoring them since DA Inquisition.
This game would have needed to sell Millions - Plural - Copies in order to break even, 70,000 is not a number to brag about. it's just sad, comically sad.
Bioware said no DLC months ago. Its not in reaponse to sales. FYI. I encountered NONE of that cringe writing in my game because I ignored Taash. No side quest. She didnt hook up with harding. None of it. Just don't engage with it and it leaves you alone.
That’s the conclusion I came to as well: when I (eventually) play the game, I just won’t bother with that character. It worked well in ‘Inquisition’ with that elf who wouldn’t shut up about ‘trousers,’ though I’m mot sure completely disconnecting from your character is how BioWare wanted people to react.
Black myth Wukong, lacking inclusivity? There are pigs, spiders, scorpions, fatherless demons, bulls, dragons, rats, foxes, humans, and u play a monkey.
Totally agree, Paul Tassi is a liar plain and simple. We all remember the stuff said about JK instead of the game itself. Same goes for the Black Myth Wukong cancel campaign all these so called "journalists" ran. Dragon Age the Veilguard, these very same so called "journalists" giving the game 8s, 9s and even 10s and not mentioning anything about the actual game itself. This is why I never click on a link to these sites and why I only get my reviews from ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT PLAY THE GAME. All these websites can go under tomorrow and it would a much better place for gamers.
I love that it happened. I hate that it took the sacrifice of dragon age, but glad nonetheless. When looking at game reviews i always look up their review on DA and whether they got a review copy. Shows me who i can trust and who i cant. Thats a win for consumers.
The only critic scores I care about are the Steam User reviews and TH-camrs I can watch play the game, get an opinion, and judge for myself what I'm seeing.
I need to ask, is everyone having the bugs Im having in the game? I have a 3070 and its always barely being able to run the game, I fall through the floors all the time, when I load the game my character doesnt load right and I end up the with the bald default face. :C

Somehow it never is, they carry such a guilt-hard-on when it comes to black people they genuinely do not see the hypocrisy. Never.
This comment wasn't game journalist mode and thus I can't rebuttal it.
yup they're inconsequential, if the games look bad, people won't buy it at launch...
Many outlets refused to even review Hogwarts--one of the biggest moral failures I've seen in games journamism
Claiming there wasn't a hate campaign against Hogwarts is revisionist history.

I don't think EA even has a way to check their player count. Maybe they do, I'll research that.
If you watch the Friends Per Second Podcast where they brought Tassi on to discuss Veilguard, he states that he’s never played over 12 hours of Dragon Age Origins, 2, or Inquisition.
What a shell.
He must be a freakin’ master to have beaten all of those without taking more than twelve hours. What a legend. 🤣

Tassi is a hypocritical shill who shouldn't be allowed to review games. He rated DAV 8/10 but on a podcast he literally said he only played it because he had a review code and would have never bought it himself... ya, this is why consumers read reviews, to find out if a game is worth BUYING!
That and he never played the previous Dragon Age games either.
@@urazz7739 I don't even think he played much of Veilguard either, he couldn't remember the names of characters he claimed he loved, and when he tried to say SkillUp were wrong about things, he couldn't think of any examples to prove his point. @@urazz7739to that point, not necessarily a bad thing. He should preface the review as such, but that could also lead to a review focused on JUST the game as is - and not part of a franchise.

Pretending identity politics isn't a legitimate issue is delusional. Far too many people downplay it's negative influence.
“Not bc of the LGBT themes explored but bc it lacks the nuance and competent writing….” Well said.

Hey look, LegacyKillaHD has all of the receipts! Well done mate.
Here is where the games "journalists" are wrong. Why they are dying.
We pay attention to reviews (and learn to *trust* the reviewer) based on one thing only. We read/watch the reviewer that I searched out, take their opinion and act on it, and then judge how relevant their opinions in the review are to *my* enjoyment of the game *that I spent my hard earned money on.*
And when I find ones I like, I return to that reviewer. It is the only reason I return.
You know what doesn't affect which reviews I look at?
An algorithm doesn't choose where I look, *I have my faves saved and subbed* already. I get *all* of their content.
I also have some trash filtered... and many game journalists are on many of my filter lists.
What they don't understand in their looking for someone to blame that isn't themselves is that *I chose to ignore games journalists, and focus on other sources.*
I chose.
It's mentioned in Iron Bull's side quest, and you can ask for more details on it, but you can pretty much just move on in the conversation if you don't care when it's mentioned (pretty much the option I chose).
hey, Enshrouded is great. Thanks for reminding me of its update.

Nothing radicals hate more than the people they're talking for doesn't agree.
I’m jealous that you still have at least one. The last magazine I trusted went out of business here over 20 years ago.
Journalistic integrity is a thing of the past. No longer is anyone intending to tell the actual story, but their version of it.
Till this day I still miss Total Biscuit.

None of the apt terms aint apropriate in polite society.
"We want actual criticism"
"Well you know, I kinda feel the characters are one dimensional and-"
"LALALA I HEAR NOTHING LALALA"
Having a gay, lesbian or trans person in a game is not propaganda.
Aw Totalbiscuit. RIP.
So what color should the zombies be if the game takes place in Africa?¿? I love how no one had a problem when the 4th game took place in Spain and all the zombies were Spaniards. In a world with Cyberpunk, Metaphor and BG3 really shows how second rate these games are. The bar has been set higher. Good for the customer.
I actually didn't know the campaign against Hogwarts Legacy stretched that far. Thanks for compiling that.

70000 is not total, you know that right? Its Steam sales, and not even 1/10 of the games sales overall
@@Paperkutchy yeah. what's your point?
Actual gamers appreciate the honest, objective review my dude. We can tell those reviews that are biased, and we know why.
Black myth Wukong, lacking inclusivity? There are pigs, spiders, scorpions, fatherless demons, bulls, dragons, rats, foxes, humans, and u play a monkey.
If a games journalist trashes you, youre doing something right.
They're sniffing their own farts. And are afraid to lose the paycheck.
Spineless rent-mouth archetype, pretty common these days.
I love that it happened. I hate that it took the sacrifice of dragon age, but glad nonetheless. When looking at game reviews i always look up their review on DA and whether they got a review copy. Shows me who i can trust and who i cant. Thats a win for consumers.
Imagine how upset they're gonna be after November 5th... I'm just saying we all know they're gonna pull that again.
Only good thing I have to say about Dragon Age: The Midguard is the combat is fun.
Failguard
How can racists, complain about racism?
Well Asmongold is trash so that part of the review was accurate.
Nah he’s Ight
Hate boner alert.
@@RedwindAndBeyond absolutely! Thanks for the comment buddy.
@@geekdomo No problem bro, glad to know he lives rent free in your head.
@@RedwindAndBeyond So you stan him pretty hard then? Does he even know you? Nice white knight you got there.
The only critic scores I care about are the Steam User reviews and TH-camrs I can watch play the game, get an opinion, and judge for myself what I'm seeing.
Very positive, and overwhelming positive hasn't failed me yet.
I need to ask, is everyone having the bugs Im having in the game? I have a 3070 and its always barely being able to run the game, I fall through the floors all the time, when I load the game my character doesnt load right and I end up the with the bald default face. :C
