    I was one of Dr. Burtons students at Brookhaven college. I took English 2 with him and let me tell you, it was one of the best classes I ever took. He challenged our perceptions on civic responsibility and gave us an enriching and gratifying experience in the classroom. He emphasized an importance on modern art and poetry which I absolutely loved. He was one of the most memorable professors I had. Proof that community college does have a lot more to offer than people think.

    Truth. Good material and it is unfortunate that community college is so looked down upon, when in actuality, it is a great opportunity

    I went to community college. It was best thing that I have ever done. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college.

    Everyone has their reasons for going to community college. One thing I noticed is that students at community college are definitely smart, but they have some learning differences. I ended up here because I didn't take the SAT this year (I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia when I was 10) but I took a test that predicts future majors and IQ by University of Cambridge & Northwestern University similarly like the SAT/ACT called ICAR60 and found out that I'm at the 98.7%tile/33 ACT composite equivalent and my abilities line up with Mathematics and Neuroscience majors and decided to focus instead on Mechanical Engineering. I found many people with high iqs and some with gifted ambition. Not all community colleges are bad some are actually slightly competitive. One things for sure, community college is way more competitive than high school if you know where to look for competition and if community college isn't that interesting and you find a way to get money you can always just transfer to a university and get your BS/BA at a better school. At least that's what I'm doing and what alot of my friends have been doing.
    Anyway chill out community college peeps you'll be fine just live your life no one cares about what you do or how you do it at the end of the day its up to you to decide whats best for you.

    Many, many years I started at a community college in San Jose, California. I was a lost soul, floundering, and unsure about a major, let alone a career goal. Now, I have earned not only a BA but three MA degrees. I went on to stellar colleges: UCLA, UCSC, Pepperdine, and Stanford. I am proud to say that I have worked as both an English and psychology professor on board US Navy warships throughout the world.
    Great things can happen by attending a community college.

    Being that I really wasn’t great at high school. CC is where I went after I got out of the Marines. Believe you me. I’m happy that they exist. I got my AAB and now I’m starting my BS. But, I thank CC for helping me out BIG TIME!

    Wow thank you for this! I am a stay at home mom of 3. I have decided to start getting my transfer degree through the community college they have here. I felt embarrassed just because of the stigmas about community college but this helped me feel much better. Thank you so much for this!

    Yes, I am that college history of philosophy, science, & archaeology professor who lives in a big city, listens to rush, plays in several bands, & doesn’t shut up about prehistory. Preface: in each PowerPoint presentation photos might include random Carl Sagan memes.

    I am a college history of philosophy, science, archaeology, world history, European history, & American history professor who lives in a big city, knows all the rush songs by heart, plays in several bands, & doesn’t shut up about Big History, Prehistory, & History in general.😂Preface: in each PowerPoint presentation photos might include random Carl Sagan memes. I originally was planning to go to university, but I decided to go to community college because of the girl I was dating at the time. It was a great choice, cheaper, & I was still able to transfer and take 3 years to complete my Bachelors at university where my original plan was to become a priest in the episcopate since I loved historical theology, Greek, & Latin. But I mainly wanted to teach history, philosophy, & science at the college level while I worked on a History Ph.D. I took my time with my education and took a year off between my undergrad and graduate to read and write more. I explored 15 countries in Europe for 3 months between my 120 page Master’s Thesis and my Ph.D. I got all that I could out of my classes (including my my personal studies). It took me 7 years full-time to graduate with my Master’s degree & then 5 more years for my Doctorate;
    12 years total. I mainly enjoy winning races and competing to qualify for the Fukuoka Marathon. I also enjoy playing in a concert orchestra and gigs in a jazz band!

    The stigma of a community college cannot be eradicated, not matter how good the reason for attending one. For professnal degrees, as MD, DO, JD and academic degrees, that is the PhD, not the half baked masters degrees, a community college degree is a boil that cannot be lanced. And that's REAL life. Some very lucky and rare community college students can get those degrees, but it's a stigma that they never shed.

      A good percentage of people who graduate with a STEM degree these days come from a community college. There are plenty of doctors, lawyers, and PhD's who began their studies at a community college. Check the video out again, and try to take Dr. Burtons advice he gives at the end.
