Hey James! Im a person who puts off studying till last minute cause i was able to score top marks even if i only study the day before the exam. Everything always worked out. Come highschool, I stopped being able to do that. I thought i got dumb but i realized that the portions got way more difficult and i just couldnt keep up. I have been trying to get a grip on my grades for some months now, but having studied last min for years now, its super hard to break outta that habit. But then i discovered your vids, and now im slowly getting better. Thank you ever so much. Im just one in many people you have helped but oh my gosh, you helped me soo much. 💛
I’ve always consider you as inspiration to cut down my social media use and gets deep into my study and work. Thank you It is nice to see you are doing well.
I was wondering if you could talk about all of your hobbies and all the things you do during the day. I wouldn’t even mind if you exaggerated and really covered all the bases. I found your channel earlier this year, and part of my new year’s resolutions was to get off of my phone. I’ve failed for a lot of reasons, but it mainly comes down to isolation and lack of spending money (after paying all my bills). But I definitely started a whole Journey and I am not done with trying. It just feels like a puzzle that I need to keep working at. And frankly, I need to get better at staring at walls and letting myself think without having that urge to go check my phone. Anyway, thank you so much for bringing this topic to my awareness and being such a genuine inspiration and cycle-breaker.
I studied with you throughout the year in the most important stage of study, and I succeeded with a high degree, thanks to God and then your encouragement, and I will continue to study with you when I enter the university
As someone looking to improve on themself in their last year of highschool (in Canada it's the year that matters) your video's have been a great help, thank you :)))
I landed on the Kyocera 902KC / 903KC. When I first started my research (it’s been two weeks), I was so excited to buy my dream phone from 2nd grade (the Pantech Matrix) but I quickly realized 3G is no longer a thing in the U.S. I was disappointed because nostalgia is such a satisfying thing, and that’s exactly what I needed out of my phone: a slide horizontal keyboard that satisfied my inner child. I was relieved to discover Japanese phones are still being curated with at least some sort of personality. My first picks from Kyocera were the non-compatible: Kyocera KYY31 (in green) and 701KC / 702KC (in blue) models. So that leads me back to the 902/903 KC, and I landed on your videos cause I was making sure it wasn’t obnoxiously large to hold or put in my pocket. I actually was able to see someone just holding it so thank you. In a perfect world i would have a hip holster for it😭😭.
The only reason i got into this stuff was cause my sister asked for a Sunbeam phone for her birthday and made the full switch which motivated me. She’s 23 and I’m 25. I know I’m going to enjoy it so much.

@@jvscholz "a podium and a prison is each a place, one high and the other low, but in either place your freedom of choice can be maintained if you so wish." I like it. reminds me of Viktor Frankl's overall message in Man's Search For Meaning. our thoughts and emotions are our responsibility and ours alone. To face that, one knows freedom. Thank you for the inspiration James I made my first video, and it definitely would never have been done without your study methods, and overall life tips like digital minimalism, reading more, even started running partly because of you and I love it. I cant really afford minimal looking dumb phones in my country and the dumb phone we get here are not really workable so i instead use my smartphone with a custom launcher(not mentioning the name since i dont wanna give free promotion) Just the thing that it helps me with my phone addiction but yes i still have the apps that distract me so I am kinda still guilty for using them but i will surely improve by time. I have been now more controlable with my wants(fancy stuff on ads and reels which makes me want to waste money even thou i wont use them for too long) but yes I have always been good with controlling my mind over this cause I belong to an asian family and my parenst wont buy me something until i really please or until I really tell them that I need it and not just want it(Theres a difference between a need and a want). Anyways I really gotta thank you for bringing out my true mind and nature which is of a minimalist. I also got a question for people who are reading this {Kinda rare if someone actually reads it but okie :) } I am actually gonna start my college in half a year and I am into ML(machine learning) and stuff like data analytics, AI and more stuff like that. I am wondering what laptop should i buy inside my budget which is around 1000 - 1100$ (under 100,000 INR) ? and also Do i need a really good graphics card to handle all these data control and making data sets or should i just go for something which has a good core and ram with a really average graphics card. Also please tell me both laptop or PC build cause I heard a lot that PC builds are actually good when you are on budget and since I already have a working old laptop which i can use to carry in college and take notes and stuff i can just do my programming at home on the pc. Thank You
Have you ever done a deep dive into McLuhan's work? It is "dated" in the sense he was active between 40s-80s but his work is almost more relevant today than it was then. I'm not sure a single person has understood media/technology's effects on the human being more than him.
If anyone's interested I'd suggest starting with "Laws of Media: The New Science" co-authored by his son, Eric McLuhan, then reading both "Media and Formal Cause" and "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man." It really helps in providing the ground or plane on which you're understanding of media and technology is to be constructed- especially for those who are students or who do read often and also struggle with technology or media addiction/escapism.
your setup is noticeably different now, how's life now as a graduated student now James? It's my last year this school year in uni so I was wondering whats the preview been like
i have seen his all videos , and i don't understand how he use his gadets, he own 2 lenovo thinkpad laptop , one old mac book and this new one macbook m2 air ( i think) in his hand,2 old schoold pcs one editing pc setup, 3 to 4 e-readers (of different sizes), one big i pad , one mini i pad , 5-8 dumb phones i dont know the model name.and some smart phones .Hope he makes a video of his entire gadets and how he use them. 🤔🤔
"Digital minimalist" He calls himself while working with several computers, owning several tech gear and cycling through the new cool gadgets every few months (i've seen some of his other videos) Just be yourself, no need to coopt a trendy buzzword that means nothing to you
Digital minimalism derives from the concept of having devices for single purposes. For example, having a (flip)phone for calls, a computer for work, a CD player for music, etc.
@@youtub-fj8mu It's not a misuse of the word, you just don't know what digital minimalism is in the first place. Digital minimalism is about using technology only as a tool like how it's originally meant to be used, it's not necessarily about owning "less devices". Basically the goal is to not be consumed by modern technology, internet and social media, doom-scrolling, fomo, etc. but to focus on being productive.
@@youtub-fj8mui agree im starting to realize this is just another version of maximalism ironically, its the aesthetic and persona that attracts ppl to do this meanwhile having what amounts to loot hauls of "minimalist products" (a paradox in itself)
He is not a minimalist, he is a digital minimalist, completely different things. Digital minimalism is about using technology for productivity and not for doom-scrolling on the internet, not necessarily about owning "less devices". Someone could own only one device (brand new iPhone for example) and still have a screentime of 10+ hours on Instagram, TikTok, etc.. That's not digital minimalism.
bro I was watching this bc I just watched another one of your vids and hearing that you have an is300 is like a sign. that car is a dream man and the fact you of all people on my page have one is crazy. honestly a sign I think I’m am going to follow in your path and try to dedigitalize my life.

I love your videos and go back to them every now and then to remind myself of the important stuff. I also love your setup videos and the products you show. I got myself a Rotring 500 as a gift to myself and reminder of your teachings and whenever I pick it up I think of what you said to us. Keep it up and best wishes!

My current “dumb phone” is a Apple Watch Series 7 with LTE. Though, I don’t wear it on my wrist (I prefer to wear a “dumb watch”). I just carry the apple watch in my pocket without a strap. It’s kinda perfect for what I need (alarm, texting, notes/voice memos). It also has a few luxuries like card tapping, the weather, and maps. The battery life is small, which forces me to only use it if I need. I don’t fully recommend it unless you enjoy tiny screens.
Thank You

@@JohnRicards its called "Ratio" it's kind of a minimalist launcher and its free.

Have you ever done a deep dive into McLuhan's work? It is "dated" in the sense he was active between 40s-80s but his work is almost more relevant today than it was then. I'm not sure a single person has understood media/technology's effects on the human being more than him.
If anyone's interested I'd suggest starting with "Laws of Media: The New Science" co-authored by his son, Eric McLuhan, then reading both "Media and Formal Cause" and "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man." It really helps in providing the ground or plane on which you're understanding of media and technology is to be constructed- especially for those who are students or who do read often and also struggle with technology or media addiction/escapism.
i haven't but ill check him out fs thank u!
yes, yes yes, this feels like a dream (i can't believe it). glad to see you back.
I love Jame's channel and how everything looks lofi and classic while having usefulness. Does anyone know similar channels I can peek?

@@jvscholz you're thriving in life my guy! Lez go!! 😳
The Quality level is just aesthetic and awesome
James always misuses the word minimalism. But we love him that way.

"Digital minimalist"
He calls himself while working with several computers, owning several tech gear and cycling through the new cool gadgets every few months (i've seen some of his other videos)
Just be yourself, no need to coopt a trendy buzzword that means nothing to you
Digital minimalism derives from the concept of having devices for single purposes. For example, having a (flip)phone for calls, a computer for work, a CD player for music, etc.
@@LS-yu3or Than that's a misuse use of the word
@@youtub-fj8mu It's not a misuse of the word, you just don't know what digital minimalism is in the first place. Digital minimalism is about using technology only as a tool like how it's originally meant to be used, it's not necessarily about owning "less devices". Basically the goal is to not be consumed by modern technology, internet and social media, doom-scrolling, fomo, etc. but to focus on being productive.
oh myy gawddd
YOUUU R BACKKKKKKKKKKK
YESSS THANK U
IT'S NICE TO SEE U BACK
YAY :)
Where can I find that wallet ?
looks like its the “olpr” notebook wallet. Found it on Etsy
in his pocket probably
So nice to see you again and i hope everything is going as you wished 🎉🎉❤❤
2:02 You said you have a few cars and here you are talking about minimalism 😂😂😂
glad to see you james it's really good video with a good filming and the colors just wow
You do buy a lot of things for a "minimalist" its like they are simple and minimalist gadgets but you'll have like 3 of the same thing lol
People like the idea of being "minimalist" and "tech conscious" because it makes them feel different
It looks like you are addicted to things you own. Remember when Tyler Durden said ''Things you own, end up owning you.''
Pleasure to see you again, love your videos and the drive you have.
bruh says he's a minimalist but carries around 14 different devices
Not really a minimalist. More like a collector which is kind of cool, but there's a fine line of becoming a hoarder.
Hey James! I hope you’re doing well. I want to thank you for putting out the content you do. You motivated me to study harder and live a simpler and healthier life. I love your videos and go back to them every now and then to remind myself of the important stuff. I also love your setup videos and the products you show. I got myself a Rotring 500 as a gift to myself and reminder of your teachings and whenever I pick it up I think of what you said to us. Keep it up and best wishes!
Glad to see you back james , i wanted to see your books collection hope uou make a video on that pls ❤
i dont think hes a minimalist.
It says DIGITAL minimalism that's very different from minimalism itself
he's a digital minimallist but then he says he tested out multiple different dumb phones and pocket ebook readers, lmao. seems like he has whole drawers of electronic devices and the whole minimalism is only performative taking out a couple of devices he decides he will use for this month
It must be nice to live in a place where everything in your pockets isn't stolen. I'm from Brazil.
It's not even a "dumbphone" if it runs Android. You're bad.
I always wanted to see your latest video, maybe I am 3 days late but you're my inspiration. ❤❤

Hi J I'm from Brazil and already follow your videos some time ago. I thought that wouldn't anymore 😂
