hey, I wanted to clear up some things that I failed to explain properly in the video- I am a digital minimalist, not a minimalist. they are different things. digital minimalism = using technology intentionally, and not losing oneself to the endless scrolling/ and the negative side effects surveillance capitalism has caused all of us. there are a few approaches to mitigating this, my current one is based around single use-technology, hence the different devices. I have experimented a lot and found that this is the best solution for me. I fear that I unintentionally promoted mindless consumerism in this video, which was not my intention. I genuinely find value in these things, and they enhance my quality of living and make doing things easier. technology is both my vocation and my hobby, I find a lot of tech interesting and wanted to show others who might be interested. most of the devices I have owned and no longer use have found a new home, they don't sit around collecting dust. thanks for the support over the years guys, and sorry I haven't been posting much. I have an upcoming video regarding the software I use on each device. hope everyone who is starting school will have a fruitful semester. cheers.
I feel like the term digital minimalism isn't a good representation of what it actually entails maybe. Having a lot of products that have a lot of cross functionality isn't really that intentional imo, using many different operating systems and things that are functionally the same doesn't really scream prioritising focus. Maybe you just have a focused personality which is why you feel that way. You're a tech enthusiast but I wouldn't say that the lifestyle you showcase is rooted in minimalism.
I've been subscribed to you for a few months and you post some really cool stuff! You seem really genuine and show a lot of care into your hobby and vocation. I really enjoy and appreciate your content, dude. Cant wait for the next upload:) Thank you for your authenticity in ever video you post^^
Hi James...You really don't need to explain or justify how you want to live your life. These people who keep begging you for more videos show that they have no indiviuality and they need you to help them decide how to live their own lives and what technology they should be using. You are an interesting person and it is nice to hear your points of view on life and technology, but as you can see from some of the comments, there are people who need to get their "fix" of motivation from TH-cam influencers rather than just follow their own path.
the only way i can explain my reasoning for coming back to watch james every time is because he is so unapologetically him. he find his own little niche, and just has the best taste. my study/career has little to do with technology but hearing the passion and research that goes into finding every little thing that works is inspiring. you really have made an impact on people globally james

I don't really understand how any of these things make anything more productive? A flip phone is less distracting though. A normal laptop doesn't take any space, and you could remove reading completely to audio books, then you can do other stuff at the same time. But you have a strong hair game for sure!
Moving all your reading to audiobooks is a crazy idea, if you're gonna read something you should take it seriously no? I see no reason to delegate it to background noise, you'll end up as someone who's read everything and learnt nothing if you use only audiobooks.
@@ashhadnaqavi Completely depends on what you read and how you work as a person. Everything thats actionable i read on the computer and compile notes anyways or just act on it in the moment. Audio books for other stuff absolutely works. If it doesnt work for you is another thing
@@HaxxBlaster The reason for it is to have devices that are dedicated to a specific purpose to be able to focus on your current task better. Basically each device has a specific intention for what it's used for and only used for that purpose so you can focus fully on that task when using the device. A lot of people find it useful for productivity.
@@HaxxBlaster when I say people find it useful for productivity I mean that a lot of people find themselves more productive when doing activities when doing said activity on a device dedicated to that activity and find themselves having less distractions than they would on a multi use device. For example, using your phone as an ereader, you can be more likely to be distracted by a notification and check social media or your messages and then end up distracted away from reading, this is just an example. Some people can simply keep themselves focused on a specific activity on a device dedicated to doing large amounts of different activities on it but some find themselves able to be more focused and productive when using a device dedicated to a singular purpose allowing you to stay focused on that singular purpose.
it's really inspiring to see digital minimalism, especially in LA (assuming based on the street signs). It's becoming increasingly more difficult to find that here in SF.
"Wow, it's been a while since your last upload! Seeing a new video from you really made my day. Your content always feels fresh and insightful-I've missed that energy! Can't wait to dive into what you’ve got to share this time. Keep up the amazing work!"
this is james lifestyle/hobby and i respect it, but you do not need 5-6 different laptops to be productive. digital minimalism helps people make the most out of technology, not owning multiple laptops and masking them as "single-use devices".
thef fact that you are living in a van, starting new projects, while i assume you're also studying? thank you for being such an incredible role-model for our brain rotted generation :)
Hi James, your wallet notebook in which you drew the habit tracker inspired me to make one too. I went to Target to get a small notebook and found that they sell habit tracker stamps! It comes with an undated calendar stamp that's roughly 2x2", a to-do list stamp, and a couple others. Thought this might be helpful :)
This doesn't seem like productivity. It just feels like you have purchased a new device at any opportunity. There's nothing wrong with that, and that's after reading your pinned comment. Nothing wrong with being a tech enthusiast. But you are still losing yourself through the endless scrolling, just across different devices that you use for single purpose, a lot of which could be consolidated. Like the Pomera DM250 (aka romanticizing journaling as you put it) Maybe nothing is being surveilled but it's very much a consumerist setup with everything that I've seen, moreso than the average user.
I solved "portability" by hittin the gym for 3 years hard, now i am so strong I carry multiple laptops, powerbanks, ipads, phones etc in my backpack and dont even notice it 😅😅
Hey James love what you're doing. I am trying to break the consumption addiction and you are a great role model for that. Thank you keep being so real bro

I have been watching you for quite a long time and whenever I am interested in the technologies that you use, I cannot find them in my country😅
Since the moment I started watching you, I have been waiting for a video about software for devices, since I am a developer myself. So I am glad that you finally decided to make it.
The way you speak about tech products shows your passion u will definitely reach great heights your work inspire us and the most beautiful thing is that you are making us feel productive lifestyle is fun & enjoyable
Thanks for the updates, you're an inspiration and I'm glad to say that I quit social media and started an IT degree because of you. I've been on it for 4 months now and I have never been so happy.
I really like the aesthetics of the products you used. Minimalist retro futurism got to be a thing.

When the world needed him the most. He came back. Thanks James, You really saved me and my school life. Things wouldnt be looking up if I haden't found you 3 yrs ago.
bros digital minimalist gadgets to stay productive are more or nearly expensive as much as normal once 💀🙏🏾
Having 100 devices is not minimalism 😂
@@Bluestarferiesbut it's funnnnn
small uncommon portable devices are typically more expensive than what's mainstream. demand is always lower than what's popular and they're produced in smaller quantity, making them expensive to produce.
@@tokisuno exactly! dawgg
@@o_o_o-ls3wd yeah its all fun and games until you spend all yo money on these typ of grandpa's era gadgets 💀
Watching James videos have helped me get through tough times . His calm tone and clarity are really helpful and honestly life changing !!!! If you have any tips for me please lmk
i question a lot of the technology for 'productivity' due to just being spoilt for choice for strange old technology that forces you into having less, BUT, there's no doubt its all really cool lol
Hey man, I hope to absolute success for you as you have shown that! The 12-hour study sessions you did several years ago show that you committed your life to goal, a clear and concrete goal. You carried it through my man!
Hey James it's so nice to see that your doing well and thanks for the last time liking my message it means a alot and because of you i got 99/100 in my maths Board exam thanks a lot, and i hope you keep finding things that you love in your life

Thanks for being yourself, thanks for give me exciting about living and teaching me lot of thing James. -ruveyda
Thank u james because of u i m going to publish my research paper your video's helped me alot you are my teacher 🙏🙏god bless you james we all proud of you
I don’t know why I was recommended this video. But I love it because I just vibe with it. Love seeing how other people use tech and stay productive even if I wouldn’t personally use the same stuff or methods

You’re the reason I learned how to study effectively, and because of that I got on the deans list last semester. Thank you for being my biggest inspiration as I go through college, also, I like is300’s too lol
ayo grats bro
@@jvscholz hey I was wondering what stuff you’ve done to your is300; I have one that’s fully stock and eventually I want to mod it a little
The retroid for anki is brilliant holy smokes dude
Stay wired in bro! You’re speaking for many SuperUsers right now and I for one personally admire your dedication and strength. 💎👨💻🧬
6:00 love the gt86 jump scare
I bought a thinkpad for the first time after watching your videos and I Love It. I made sure the spec were solid and it works wonders.
Speaking as a 50+ year-old dev/engineer, your vintage tech aesthetic is extremely cool.
My brother, if love your Moondrop Katos, jump to the Moondrop Dusk. Katos were my go-to for years for some reason. Once I upgraded to the Dusk(stock tune/analog cables) I fell in love again. It seems a lot of people prefer the DSP cable's presets, but their direct tune using a normal cable I absolutely love lol.
I do question how productive you actually are with all of these techs, seems like youre constantly trying to escape tech whilst purchasing more tech to do the job of one tech.
i really love your videos.i love how genuine you are, the vibe you give off. it inspires me to try to be genuine too.
i think you are not aware of the great value of what you do. your videos are the ones i look forward to the most. even if i have to wait for months and it lasts a few minutes. your videos make me very, very happy.
thank you james. i have only gratitude and good wishes for you. i hope all goes well for you and the people you love. a big hug ❤
You are my role model in terms of productivity and diligence. Thank you.
OMG i’m addicted with this guy, his voice softtttttt
James you have no idea how much you inspire me, wish you the best
hi I've literally seen ur videos since late middle school , now I'm in college pursuing engineering
so ik this wouldn't be of any significance to u but studying as a concept was really hard for me to do everyday and hell but your videos were always realistic and well I genuinely appreciate ur honesty too . glad I discovered this other Chanel today , have a great day James ! and keep posting too !
baby wake uppp because I fainted when I saw James 😭🌟
I didn't know you were still active on TH-cam. I have been studying with you for the past 3 months, still unable to complete the stream. but I have improved a lot since then. Thanks, felt great seeing you today :)
Never clicked on a video faster lol
Missed u sm!!
I’m older, and have hand written and lived mostly analogue most of my life (with tech as an intentional add on). It’s kind of wild watching younger people adopt these systems that I learned growing up!!
Happy for you, bro; you have come a long way!
I definitely need a van tour.
It’s interesting how much your videos have changed over time and the interesting niche you are creating. It’s very different from all the other content online, but in a good way.
school just started for me, can’t wait to boot up your studying streams and just study alongside you
Man you' re such an inspiration. You have a taste on choosing things that is just unreachable, made true by the fact that every piece of equipment has a specific use and meaning. Keep up with this videos, these are an incredible inspiration. Also i feel that there is no need to post more frequently
this 'photos i find inspiring' hits so hard, i screen each pic and rewatch later, also from previous vids. nice to see upgrades of your setup, always gives me thoughts
After watching your videos I tryed and found a desk setup for myself for the longest time you've been an inpiration to push forward. This year is my final year at school im gonna graduate in 2025 and go to uni for Computer engeneering. Lately i've started to lose my edge so thanks for keeping me accountable. Wish you luck with your new projects James.
good luck in uni bro!
@@jvscholz Thanks man.
hey james! I have seen your videos for a long time! i used to study with your stream every day during the pandemic and now that i am in college, you gave me so much nostalgia! you inspire me to build myself and cool projects and fearlessly explore new technology!!!!
James, come back bro. You were the inspiration for not only my for thousands of people around the world. Please come back and help us! 😢
He’s doing other things let’s not act entitled to his presence. It’s parasocial.
Let’s focus on our own life and project and move forward.
@@jonathana.1802 he could work on his business and stream it maybe
Remember that people are always watching you. Wishing you good health
You have changed my life. I’ve never been happier to just live in a normal apartment with basic things like a refrigerator full of food and a desktop computer with an iPhone.
Oh my gosh I'm absolutely in love with this dudes content and just niche character thats against the groove. Bro if you see this I absolute can't wait for when you get into car stuff, but you do you of course man. Your inspiring thank you for sharing your drive.
The way he imitates the guy who got out of the elevator is killing me.😂😂😂😂😂😭😂😂😂
Started my PhD program this year. Crazy how far I’ve come in the 4 years I’ve been watching you
Also, what arcteryx bag is that
My dude’s obtuse tech selections remind me of my youth
James is such an inspiring person and its really cool to see where he is at in his life
I don't really understand how any of these things make anything more productive?
@@Necrowarp_ To me that's usability, not necessarily productivity. But i get what you mean
James Posting lights up my day🙏
"Wow, it's been a while since your last upload! Seeing a new video from you really made my day. Your content always feels fresh and insightful-I've missed that energy! Can't wait to dive into what you’ve got to share this time. Keep up the amazing work!"
this is james lifestyle/hobby and i respect it, but you do not need 5-6 different laptops to be productive.
digital minimalism helps people make the most out of technology, not owning multiple laptops and masking them as "single-use devices".
thef fact that you are living in a van, starting new projects, while i assume you're also studying?
thank you for being such an incredible role-model for our brain rotted generation :)
james im glad you are on your spiritual journey........ God bless you. jESUS LOVES YOU
This guy is the most interesting guy I have ever seen in my life.. this is definition of living.
7:06 i thought you were doing something here but then realised its just a wallpaper LMFAO
Like the Pomera DM250 (aka romanticizing journaling as you put it)
Maybe nothing is being surveilled but it's very much a consumerist setup with everything that I've seen, moreso than the average user.
Thank you James. Without your help, I could not even keep on studying non-stop every single day.
I solved "portability" by hittin the gym for 3 years hard, now i am so strong I carry multiple laptops, powerbanks, ipads, phones etc in my backpack and dont even notice it 😅😅
as a technofreak I definitely like these kind of videos. thank you james
Good to see you back! And no way, is that reysu in the background?
i was shocked too. turns out it is reysu 🙏🏼
Hey James love what you're doing. I am trying to break the consumption addiction and you are a great role model for that. Thank you keep being so real bro
Bro is addicted to technology without being addicted
Can someone please explain to me what he uses the small laptops for? What that upmc thing means I'm quite interested in, but i can not seem to find anything
thanks, now I need the little wallet, pen and textbook for my creative mind...
