In the 2nd and final part of this series, I'll show you how to build a Mission or Art and Crafts style dining chair using solid Quartersawn White Oak. Part 2 will cover creating the back rests, the back splat and side spindles, final assembly, and finishing.
    In case you missed Part 1, it included the chair design, breaking down and milling rough lumber, creating the chair legs, and creating the joinery for the chair base. Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah2Kq...

    I have an New appreciation for what it takes to build a chair. This design looks so simple, but involved so many steps. You should be proud of what you accomplished. I know I am! Great job Johnny.

    Johnny you knocked this out of the park. They are beautiful chairs awesome craftsmanship. I know from the podcast you are so happy to be done but you push yourself and came away with a ton of knowledge and that's worth it and I would think your clients were happy. Again awesome work.

    Dude, you killed it on these chairs! I can't imagine all of the complex angles on these. I'm sure you had an advantage having the original to take all of your measurements and angles from.

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joshua! I'm not sure if having to precisely match the original made it easier or harder. Cutting anything slightly off would have made for a lot more issues than if I didn't have a reference piece.

    Beautiful chairs! I have built chairs like these, but did not use spindles in the lower sides. in the version I made I used Loose tenon joints, however I finished the details before hand , then did the assembly. Mine were maghony and I used a Varathane oil base stain, with a wipe on poly finish.

    Great work. I also picked up one of those jet mortisers on Craigslist, and being a power tool woodworker on a budget, it really makes mortise and tenon joinery a lot of fun. I still have domino envy, though...

    God Bless my friend.

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Frank! I wiped the areas with denatured alcohol to remove a little of the dried stain and then also sanded those areas a tad. Once I was done with the other three chairs, I diluted the stain and applied a second coat to the problem chair.

    Fantastic work! Just curious why you would sand most parts pre-assembly, but wait to break the corners on all the pieces until after assembly? I would have assumed to do it all in the pre-assembly stage. Was it just due to using a different/higher grit when breaking the corners?

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It was honestly because I was tight on time and needed to get the parts in the clamps. I could sand when the glue dried for a lot of the sections.
