    I've had a Neotech 2, fitted by yourself. It was the best, quietest, most comfortable helmet I have had. The ventilation was also excellent. I crash tested mine when a car took me out and it was fantastic in a crash. Highly recommended. If I return to biking in the future I will get another.

    Always liked the Shoei helmets but over the years found them too expensive and started wearing NEXX helmets. But recently I found a Neotec 2 on sale at around £525, it was a no-brainer so I bought it. The one thing I find a problem with is fitting an external comms system, there are not that many flat surfaces. It's like they're trying to force you to buy the built-in comms package.

      I've heard the Packtalk clip will work after removing the blank cover on the helmet. Hoping so anyway as I just ordered a second helmet kit with the JBL speakers because I threw the first clip out. Packtalk Bold seems to be discontinued but was able to order the kit.

      Is that a non certified Amazon special???

      Do not make me laugh!
      Pleased to be in the lucky position of wearing a Shoei X-spirit 3 now (thanks son! Wants to keep dad safe) but there are great HJC’s for less money that this Nexx crap that are massively safer!

    The comms problem with the Neotec is that you can't mount a Cardo easily. I also disagree on the mesh. I ride with a few friends often and having mesh is a revelation and a safety advantage.

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  ปีที่แล้ว +25

      My point was that Mesh is not for everybody. More than 75% of people who buy comms. want it for music, the satnav and telephone calls; or for talking to a pillion or one other rider. For all these groups, Mesh is a waste of time; it costs more and offers a much reduced battery life. Those who need Mesh, need Mesh, but most people don’t. CP

      I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold fitted to my old Neotec 2 and it is an easy fit using the adhesive pad mount. It took no more than 10 minutes.
      I recently bought a new Neotec 2 and bought the sena integrated mesh comms. I changed because most of my riding group use Sena and I am very impressed with it. The sound quality is now very good and the battery life is superb particularly as you only switch on mesh when you need it unlike the Cardo. It is also much easier to connect to others using the Sena app.
      I think the Bluetooth vs Mesh point is valid for most as 98% of the time I am on Bluetooth only.

    I purchased the Neotec 2 from your store from the U.S. when no one else had it in stock- not with the graphics that you show on the video. This graphics theme was exactly what I wanted and you were the only one who had it. Your company shipped it quickly and in brand-new condition and you even threw in a free anti-fog Pinlock Evo, thank you. I did not much cared for the Neotec 3 since it lacked the beautiful graphics of this one. Now comes the hate-eliciting part of this comment: I also bought a Milwaukee Helmets flip helmet with almost identical design and functions including internal sun visor but inferior materials.. for $100 bucks!

    A very intelligent, enjoyable presentation that's also immensely informative! 🙂
    Given that I already own a Neotec2 and the length of the video, I don't know why I started to watch, but it was definitely worth it.
    I have a long oval head and always looked for the holy grail that would perfectly fit it. Fit for the head shape is often overlooked, but is a prime safety feature that I put over almost any other features when I buy a helmet. Unfortunately, you can't necessary feel in the shop if the helmet will give you unbearable headache after half a day of wearing.
    I tried several models in the last 25 years, and found that long oval head is best served with BMW, Schuberth, Caberg and the Shoei flip-ups. At least these are the ones I owned. Many brands that produce otherwise desirable helmets simply only fit round heads so I always had limited choice.
    But here is the experience I want to spread here: none of them were a perfect fit, after half a day of riding I was always relieved to take them off. Except the Neotec2.
    When I had to change my Schubert c4 after an accident, I tried the c5 on, and was surprised that it was not a long oval anymore, but more rounded. Custom fit parts were not available yet, so I went for the Neotec2. I bought it and without any break-in, the next day I used it on a 600km tour. The weather was cold, and I didn't take the helmet off even when we stopped for breaks, it was so bloody comfy even after hours of riding that I just enjoyed wearing it as a cap in the cold. After 23 years of riding I found a helmet that was like casted on my head. It's an unspeakable joy and I can only hope the next version will not change internal shape as Schuberth did. The Neotec2 is also the best quality feel helmet I ever had, no cracking sounds when I put it on/off or operate the chin or visors.
    The negative that was not mentioned in the video: bugs can freely reach your hair/skin via the top ventillation channel :((. (Same with the Schubert c4! They fixed it with the c5). So I installed a bug net DIY-way.

    I always enjoy your video productions. I currently wear a GT-Air - but I use a Cardo Packtalk Bold. Placement of my comm unit on either the GT-Air 2 or the Neotec 2 seems a problem to me. A lesser nitpick - I wish the double d ring strap was still used.
    An adapter plate that covers the Sena port but supports installation of a comm unit seems a good idea - to pen up the helmet to users of non-helmet specific comms.
    Thanks for your commitment to riding and to the rider!

    I have both the SENA bluetooth and the newer mesh version in my Neotec-II. The newer mesh version has speakers that are a couple of mm thicker than the originals, and thus sit slightly closer to the ear. The mesh version also has better coils and also has much better noise reduction electronics. IMHO, the mesh version of the SENA is worth the price for the sound and reduced noise along.

    Side point: I still use a Sena 30K. It has been buggy in the past but with the latest firmware updates and new app, it’s unbelievably rock solid. I ordered a second mounting kit for the new helmet. No need to replace the Sena 30K for my needs.

    I have the Shoei Neotec 2 and agree with Chris on most points including the not especially effective detents of the clear visor (which I seldom use) and pretty damn good Sena Bluetooth coms package (which I use for music and enjoy on every ride). That said, I say the helmet is not particularly quiet (at any speed) and doesn't really have much secondary ventilation (secondary meaning the little chin bar vent and scoop vent on top of the helmet). The best ventilation simply comes from riding with the clear shield up and the tinted sun visor down (assuming it's not raining and not after sunset). As Chriss mentions, riding with the lid flipped UP at slower speeds is a great way to gulp some cooler air when needed. Not sure I got the same attention to fit I would have received at Motolegends under Chris's watchful eye, but mine is quite comfortable to wear. My only problem (and I do mean PROBLEM) came from the portion of helmet padding directly on top of my head. That bit has a slotted pattern (sort of a padded grid) that I assume was intended to work in combination with the vent system on top of the helmet. As mentioned, that vent provides minimal (if any) actual ventilation, but the slotted padding does screw up you hair something AWFUL! When you remove the helmet, your hair will retain a negative impression of the slotted padding--meaning alternating rows of some hair UP and some hair DOWN. It short, you'll look bloody ridiculous. I tried solve that issue with all manor of hair nets and scarves with little effect. Finally I found a circular adhesive foam pad (intended to pad a bicycle helmet) which I placed over the slots. That solved the recently ploughed-look and gave me a more uniform and traditional SMOOSHED HAIR look most helmets provide. Not sure I'll bother upgrading to the Neotec 3 when available--I like my Neotec 2 as is. One last point Chriss didn't mention: the helmet is quite heavy--you don't notice when riding, but try walking around it for a while and you certainly will. I consider that feature rather than a bug, but I've read KLIM's helmet is significantly lighter (and much noisier).

    I bought the Neotec 2 this year (2023). I was very happy with my Arai, but it was due for replacement. I went into the store not expecting to like the Neotec 2 because I didn't think I'd like the modular/flip-lid design. I knew I wanted to give it a good look at it as it is popular with many of my riding friends. After trying on several different helmets, I kept coming back to the Neotec 2. I bought one. I am amazed how you and a lot of other people praise Neotec 2 so much. It was the reason I bought one, however for me is the worst of the best helmets I have, if I make any sense. Either mine is defective, or it simply rejects me :). I am quite short, 171 cm, and I ride 3 bikes: Indian Scout Bobber, Indian FTR R Carbon and Triumph Rocket 3R, with GT shield installed. On ALL 3 bikes, the Neotec 2 is the noisiest helmet I have! I even tried to install Focal soundproofing membrane in it, but I got the same noise. The noise I get is in ears and temple sides, without air getting in. My fitment is perfect, I find it very comfortable, and is completely tight, but the noise is.. OMG... It might be related to the fact that I have a Cardo Black installed on it. Actually I will try to remove it and test it again. I did around 4k km with it and another 6k with Schubert C4 Pro Carbon last year. I find the C4 superior in every aspect, which I guess sits weird with you... The C4 Pro Carbon is quieter, lighter, softer inside, it has a bigger vertical field of view so I can see my dashboard without nodding all the time, I can open the shield with my both hands and it ventilates better. The only downside is the smaller pinlock. One big issue I have with the Neotec 2 is the concentration of air flow directly in one point on my forehead, when the sun visor is up and frontal vent is opened. I don't know how to fix that!!!! I tried with and without breather, I tried to obturate some of the vent holes - no luck, it is like the chinese droplet on my forehead. I sincerely would pay the transportation and fee to UK, to you to check my helmet and see if it is really defective or it simply hates me...

    Thank you so much for the great presentation - this is exactly the info I needed. I wanted the C5, probably just because it's a newer model and also coming from a Bell Bullitt, a wide field of vision is paramount for me. It sounds like the C5 and Neotec 2 should be quite close in this respect so not a big deal. But sadly with a 61mm head, I couldn't get a proper fit with the C5. The XL left way too much room in the forehead for me, the Large I could barely close the chin bar. And the dealer thought there wouldn't be pads thick enough to compensate for the gap in the XL. So it would seem Schuberth thinks my head is not a size that they care about accommodating.
    So I'm glad to learn that the Neotec is so tried and true. Plenty of good reviews here in the comments. Also I'm guessing the XL Neotec is likely a more suitable shell size, since C5 only has the 2 shell sizes. After 15 years of riding, I'm looking forward to having a proper helmet. I loved learning your thoughts on the benefits of flip lids as well. Really appreciate finding your video to help me decide. Cheers!

    Good video. I have a Neotec 2 for three years now and do a 20k per year with it. I like the helmet very much until it starts raining (heavily). Then the water comes in via the vent on the chin. The water splashes from the inside of the vent onto my nose and the visor becomes wet on the inside. It doesn't matter if I close the vent. Water is still trickling through. Very annoying. But I found a solution: when it starts raining I put a piece of Ducktape over the outside vent. Yes, then the ventilation is gone and my spectacles get damp because of it, but then at least I keep the interior dry.

      I found The GT-Air 1 pretty quiet but the GT-Air 2 and the Schuberth C4 noisy, the Schuberth noisy due to it's round shape letting noise in the sides. I now have a Neotech 2 and find it quiet. The down side being it's a bit on the heavy side and although it's snug neck fit helps keeps you warm in winter it can also trap Co2, something any helmet with a chin curtain can do. I am a big fan of Shoei. There is no real quiet helmet and I find myself using earplugs a lot.

As Chris says in the vid , expecting any helmet to be quiet in its environment is unrealistic. Out of all the helmets I own (which is getting a bit silly) the one I find the least noisy is a HJC Rpha 70.

    Chris, I appreciate your videos. I recently went helmet shopping here in the States. I tried on the Neotec 2 and the Schuberth C5. Based on my shaped head the C5 was the winner. I road several hours with it this past weekend and couldn't be happier. I'm also glad that I bought the SC2 comms unit. I am a big Cardo fan but like the sleakness of having a built-in versus the clunkiness of taped on. Keep up the great content!

    The SENA comms system in Neotec 2 and C5 has a great identical problem.
    The accu is not available , its a custom made size and Sena does not sell it, they want you to buy a new comms. This is a problem if you ride long tours, like we do between 20-25000km/year. Than after 3 years the accu is weak and does not last a full day.
    I am not for more laws generell, but here a EU wide law is needed that accus in devices must be replaceable by enduser.

    I agree on the only flaw on shoie helmets is the visor (cracking) the reason I bought a neotec was I've always had shoie, seem to be only helmets I can wear ( again bell hjc etc uncomfy). What sold the neotec to me was the chap in shop who told me they never get shoie helmets back and that can not be said about shueberth helmets.

    Neotec 2 was the only one fitted well to my head (money was not a concern). Reasons to get a flip-up are very correct. It is extremally convenient, one thing was not mentioned - wearing glasses is very convenient with flip-up.
    A bit of cons to my teste (very minor though):
    - no crack open position (as mentioned on video)
    - wind could hit through the cracks making noise and draft in cold weather
    - closing helmet to the click with gloves is not always smooth you need to apply a bit of force but there is nothing to pull
    - sun visor rather sliding than flips down while I'd prefer kinda dropping one (as in one of my old IXS helmets)
    - chin strap is not perfectly aligned with my fat chin (again was smooth in my old IXS)
    - I'd love to have same helmet with 180 flip option
    Again those are quite minor, overall very good helmet and very comfortable lining.

    Thanks for the video, much appreciated.
    I had a Schuberth C5 for a few months then changed to a Shoei Neotec 2. The C5 was definitely quieter and had better sound quality on the intercom, especially music. I couldn’t get the fit right with my (obviously) odd head shape🤪 I also didn’t like the intercom setup, where you have a separate battery powered controller which itself has to pair with the main unit - they’re both on the helmet so why not link with a wire? 🤷🏼‍♂️
    The Shoei fits me better and am happy with it. You’re right about not being able to ‘crack’ the visor for some airflow, there should be another indent before it closes. The sound quality is a bit behind the C5 and I found it a little too quiet at speed - until I discovered the trick of telling the Bluetooth on your phone it’s not headphones. Now works better 👍🏻

    Good video. I agree with much of what you say. I have only had Neotecs since they first came out, I'm already onto my second Neotec2. The only thing i WISH for is that Shoei had teamed up with Cardo instead. The Sena unit is just, well, rubbish by comparison. I had the dedicated Sena on first Neotec2 - I have dumped the Sena and bought a Cardo 4X (I 3D printed myself a special mounting after scanning both parts and have been asked if it's a Shoei accessory!). I am super happy with the difference (sound quality way better, voice commands way better, glove operation way better...the list goes on.....). I don't understand what Sena are doing. They have lost a customer! I hope the Neotec3 does something a little more accommodating to mount alternative comms systems.

      Agreed. I've been wearing Shoei GT-Air helmets for a decade. With the Sena integration in the GT0Air II it has made it all but impossible to install my Cardo system and so I am looking at different brands now. I would have considered the Neotec II but is suffers from the same problem. There are plenty of choices in helmet brands but not so much in comm systems.

    Hi Chris, interesting, informative and fair video...... BUT! Where is the HJC RPHA 90S (especially the carbon version), I'm guessing that ML don't sell HJC's as they are very mainstream. I recently looked around, tried the the Schuberth (I originally had a C1, 22 years ago), also the Shoei Neotech 2. But I was drawn to the features of the RPHA 90S carbon, such as dual homologation, Pinlock 120, multiply shell and pad options, excellent chin and neck skirting. Plus of course it's superb carbon finish which also helps make it unbelievably light. For me the medium fitted perfectly straight out of the box, the shape is oval, very Shoei like but that suits me. I have fitted a Cardo Pack Talk Bold to mine, but there is also an integrated Sena intercom option, much like the Shoei Neotech. My opinion is the 90S is definitely up there with the Schuberth and Shoei and is worthy of consideration.

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  ปีที่แล้ว

      These days, we tend only to offer helmets where we can change the cheekpads and headliners to custom fit it. You cannot do this with the HJC, so it’s pot luck. If it fits off the shelf, great. If it doesn’t, forget it. You can actually change the cheekpads within a shell size on an HJC, but when you do so you merely create the other size within that shell size, as the only difference between sizes is the ‘soft furnishings’. The eps sizes don’t change. So nice helmet, I am sure, but if we can’t add value, then a helmet isn’t for us. CP

    • @danjf
      @danjf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Motolegends Thanks for the reply Chris... You are the expert! but from what I have seen the Shoei's (great lids... I have owned them) offer three sizes of centre and cheek pads in each EPS size. The HJC 90S for example has three different EPS sizes but two combinations of centre and cheek pads. So I'd agree that the Shoei gives a level of additional tweaking but mixing variants of centre and cheek pads does provide an element of added value. I reckon you'd sell plenty of HJC's and your Shoei and Schubert suppliers might be less than impressed :) Either way I'm very happy with my 90S.

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danjf The issue is that when you change the pads in one size of helmet, you merely create the other size in that shell; so you can turn a Medium into a Large or vice-versa. You can’t, though, change the headliner, so there’s no scope for customisation. CP.

    I want to comment on the comparison of the Neotec 2 to the C5. I have the C5 as well as the C4 and the C3. I have used Schubert's for several years. The C5 fails dramatically for me in the face shield. The detents for each position are far too slight and the shield doesn't like to stay in any one position. What's worse though is how it locks into the "down" position. The tabs on each side of the shield that are meant to snap the shield into place are really poorly designed and the shield struggles to lock down. I finally gave up a month ago and went to the Neotec 2. I was rewarded with all the other good qualities it shares with the C5 and the shield works flawlessly. Yes, its first position should be smaller for simple airflow but that's a minor nit. Get the Notes 2 and pass on the C5 in my view. At a minimum, pay close attention to how that shield works and make sure you are ok with it. Note that I verified this issue with two different C5's. It's a problem pattern. Great channel folks and thanks for creating this!

    I am in the market for a new helmet and I happen to have a Shoei head shape. I tried both the Neotec II and the Schuberth C5. As expected, the Neotec II was instantly comfortable while the Schubert needed tweaking in the cheek area. The thing is that Schuberth got the timing for the ECE 22 06 right. Shoei also knew that this new safety standard was coming. However, Shoei needs another year or so to present an independent homologation. To me this is a disappointment which is why I am going with the Schuberth C5.

    I bought a neotec 2 a week ago and tested it yesterday. I'll say I think it's the best padding on any helmet I've seen.
    I'm comparing it to my LS2 Carbon Explorer, which has 12k miles on it. Quite honestly, I had big expectations for the N2!
    Right out of the gate, the N2 looked like a winner. Couldn't wait to test it. It took less than half and hour to decide. It was not nearly as good as the LS2, and that was just the wind noise comparison.
    Thankfully I bought it from Amazon and was able to return it.
    My primary complaint with LS is they didn't honor their warranty when the sun shade mechanism failed. That was in just 4 months. Amazon took it back and replaced it with another for a small restocking fee, including a new Lexin com, which was permanently attached to the helmet.
    The sun shade mechanism failed again on the second LS2 helmet. This time I decided to put up with it and use my hands to move it. I actually didn't use it much on the first, until I realized how great it was for wind protection and ride with the clear visor open.
    The LS runs very small imo. I wear an xl in every other brand I've owned. This is a tight xxxl, and that's with removing half the thickness of the cheek pads.
    So far, it's the best helmet option I've owned.
    Makes me wonder, when the local bike shop's primary helmet selection is Shoei, are people just putting up with the issues?
