@@GabePuratekuta I don't think they had planned for it to be it's own series, especially since they just carbon copied it and made it much worse for a DS sequel.

Battling Roy as the true SMW Roy was disappointing but I have to admit the level that led to him was challenging and authentic.
There’s Video Game Logic, and then there’s Mario Logic. How else do explain how doing a spin jump allows him to bounce off spinning buzzsaws or chainsaws?
Just a hunch...but Steel Toed Boots perhaps and he's spinning like a drill with his toes downward?

This is what an actual legitimate Super Mario World 2 (a.k.a. Super Mario Bros 5) should have been, instead of that Yoshi's Island spin-off that Nintendo of America misleadingly added the "Super Mario World 2" moniker to the title, which wasn't present in the Japanese version.
This really would be perfect around 1988. Still good now, but this is truly how everything was around that time.
1998 you mean. 1988...lol god so long ago. The Legend of Zelda on NES on my Black & White TV with no color brings me back to 1988 lol but I was a little kid and color tv's were still expensive lol
Want to hear something crazy? The NES I had then in 88 is sitting in my closet right now smashed up a bit but the fooking thing STILL works after falling out of a moving truck by accident and being thrown across the room a couple of times. You will never hear about Microsoft and their X-boxes lasting like that...my dad killed his brand new 360 when they came out by tapping on it by accident. Lol no kidding he tapped it lightly and it died after buying the thing brand new....a month after the warranty went of course which was 30 day only the stingy f**ks.
