Mostly it's bad for people with weak spines. But there are a lot of hyper mobile people in yoga so I tend to avoid it. Also it's only really a big problem is you're hugging your legs after a long backbend.
Backbends used to be my biggest challenge but a video you did a while back on them actually helped me get into my first ever backbend! thank you so much
Very informative and useful thank you. My problem with backbends is that I can't press myself up and straighten my arms, even with hands on blocks like you showed. Any tip would be much welcome. Thank you.
thanks sooooo much Celest for that important info on what not to do after the back bend .u r such a wonderful teacher n beautiful soul.more power to you.love from the middle east
Very informative!! I teach acre dance and was a gymnast as a kid and we were always taught to roll out our spines right after a bridge. I am going to incorporate the glute bridge and spine twists for recovery.
I love this Celeste. My flexibility improvement project had been put on hold for a while, but I am back on track now and these tips are really going to help me as I start working on my backbends again :)
Hi Celest, I really enjoy your videos and your energy and joy. Regarding the backbends I have a question for you. Are these ok in case of lower back pain? Thanks. Kisses. You are great :)
It depends. I think gentle backbends can be very good. Do you get pain when you move into backbends only? And does the pain go away when you move into flexion?
Thanks for those valuable information, especially on how to behave after backbending. Problem for me is that I have scoliosis and therefore a very hard time to get up from the floor and find space in the spine. Fo you have any advice for me? Or should I don't do deep backbends at all as many yoga journals write in their articles? Many thx and have a nice Easter Monday :-)
Im not sure about this. Let me do some research. If you don't hear from me soon send me another message as a reminder. I am just a little snowed under but I really really want to help with this. Love this question!!! Sending you huge hugs Yvonne x
Thanks for the hand block tip to practice back bends, also bringing attention to the dynamics of the spinal disk makes perfect sense.
Aww thanks for watching and for commenting
thanks for sharing, I had no idea I was risking injury by knee grabbing immediately after backbends.

I would love to! But i need to be invited by a studio :( Do you know any studios that might be able to host me?
I just love how you explain things so clearly and thoroughly! :)
Awww thanks chica. Sometimes people give me grief for talking too much :D You never can win :) xx
Oh no! They don't know what they're talking about :)
Brilliant advice. I'm quite stiff as I have fibromyalgia so going to invest in a ball to get started with these gently. Awesome video as always. Xxx
Wow karen yes! I think the ball is a great idea for you my love. Let me know how you get on with it x

Keep me posted darling Janis. I want to know how it goes x
I'm loving these tutorials! would you make one for more advanced back flexibility? I am trying to get my needle! love ya cel!
What is the needle?
It's hard to explain. It is something dancers and gymnast do. You straighten your leg and to your head while standing up, but backwards.
great! great! tip's. thank you so much.

Do you have an instagram?

Mostly it's a problem when holding backbends for a really long time or if your spine is already compromised.
