    Great video. One main area you didn't touch on (because you probably don't even need to think about it yourself) is how important shoulder mobility is to this movement. For your less flexible viewers, like me, we need to start out with learning a good "hollow body" position laying down on the floor, and also standing fully straight up against a wall, and raising our arms straight up above our head against the wall. If you can't do that, you will end up with a banana handstand. Thanks.

      Well this video talks about all the techniques you can practice that will make that possible. The kicks, the wall with the push and then putting those together in the middle of the room. It seems like a simple answer but it works! The other thing you can do is ask a friend to help spot you or get an arm balance teacher.

      Don’t worry when doing a handstand ur less likely going to hurt yourself if u stretch but if u don’t a split it will hurt

    Thank you very much, I learned a lot from this today. I never did a handstand really, and the last time I tried was like 10 years ago. Now its time to develop myself and do new things.

    Yoga NEVER EVER said you had to put your hands so wide apart, it has ALWAYS been shoulders width apart!!

    • @AlbaYogaAcademy
      @AlbaYogaAcademy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      no but often people align to the outside of their shoulders and my teacher explained that that is too far apart when you are learning handstand in the beginning. Where the glenoid fossa is is much closer in terms of hand positioning than most people put their arms in yoga :)

      +Celest Pereira Wow a reply!! Thank you :) Well, since I messaged you, I have pulled a neck muscle, so no practice for ten days now - so sad - but I'm still determined...I did get to do a couple of (very wobbly) headstands so I'm soooooo pleased...just been doing my pilates to strengthen my neck (and everywhere else too aha) xxx

    It works! However, all the yogis I have every spoken to insist on pushing the shoulders out for the handstand, never down. Like pushing the ground away from you. I do hope to be able to hold the handstand longer now! xx
