Love the old Western’s. Them old sheaths are tuff to repair once the Leather splits like that. The stitching and stitched leather area gives way. I have found on old sheaths like that to avoid oils. Just rub it out carefully with hard wax. Most hard wax has a slight amount of oil, just enough to help the wax apply
