    • Shado Mobile Redux
    This is a restoration that took forever. I started this in September, put it aside, and started again over Christmas. Now it is finally done.
    I bought this basket case for the sole purpose of making it look more like the television version. I have a green one in excellent condition (which you can spot in the video) so I wasn't going to spoil that one.
    I think you will enjoy it.

      Thanks Pops. I am really impressed with the Valeijo metallic paints. Infortunately, it is hard to get them these days. The idler rollers came out a I wanted them to, and the seats were done, just before I bought a resin 3D Printer. I would have delayed the project some more to print seats, but then I thought, why not show an interesting way to make them. Cheers

    I never understood why the Dinky models were different colours to the ones in the TV show! Not only was this model the wrong colour, so were the MoonBase Interceptors. Your version looks great though.
    (Having said that, wrong colour or not, I got a huge amount of joy out of mine when I was a kid).

    Fabulous job Timo! I’m so delighted that you restored it to its correct tv livery. What on earth were Dinky thinking painting it green? With their Thunderbird 2 being produced incorrectly in blue we were so honoured that they actually made FAB 1 in pink (mostly). Keep up the excellent work! Very best wishes, Adrian

    • @timosdinkydetailing
      @timosdinkydetailing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Adrian. A lot of people are questing the ridiculous colours of the TV Dinky models. I have to say, when I was a child, those fantastic bright colours really caught my eye when I stepped into the diecast aisle of Simpson's, or Eaton's. I remember that vividly. I think that's why they did it. It worked on me.

      Thanks so much Jesterger. This is probably my favourite Dinky toy in my life. I loved the show and never missed an episode. Now it looks dated, but it is still fun to watch (at least an episode or two). The second episode has a scene that really displays how women were treated back then. Even if the writers made sure the commander of Moon Base was a purple haired woman, Ed Straker still treats her like a crappy secretary, while praising her. You have to watch it. I couldn't believe my ears. 😜

    Very impressive Timo, that is almost a work of art. I love the way you restored the model to the true TV Series version designed by Derek Meddings. I always felt Dinky short changed kids and could have made the toys far closer to the original versions if they wanted to. Where they got the yucky green idea from, God only knows.

    • @timosdinkydetailing
      @timosdinkydetailing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Thom. You make a really good point. I can understand the gaudy green and orange Interceptor because it's so eye catching from a distance, but the drab green, military look for the Mobile was poor. They did make a blue edition at one point though. Give them credit for that.

    • @EfftupSmith
      @EfftupSmith ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timosdinkydetailing I heard it was as a military toy to appeal to those who didn;t know the show, but to those that did, having it look so different was a stupid idea IMHO.

    • @thomridgeway1438
      @thomridgeway1438 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually can I correct the above statement. Although it was Derek Meddings in charge of all Gerry Anderson show design and special effects - it was his talented deputy Mike Trim who actualy designed many of the vehicles and models on the series. Mike Trim is not only a fabulous artist /illustrator but a true visionary and futurist. He designed the Shadow mobile and must be given full credit.

    Excellent stuff. Got all the episodes on dvd. The domes at the back would have been the rear lights. A SHADO mobile wouldn't have been able to get that close to the UFO without being fired upon as had happened on the TV show. Beautiful model

    • @timosdinkydetailing
      @timosdinkydetailing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andrew. I figure the Mobile doesn't really need indicator lights. It's kind of like a tank. I imagine those domes were for signalling danger to whoever approached from behind. I looked for a scene where you could see the rear of a Mobile, and never found one. I don't have the DVD set, so it's an incomplete search. Cheers

    Great model work and trade skills, well done. It would also be nice if either in a Dinky Toy or in a plastic model kit if they had a version with the Depth Charge Mortar and Turret Gun as seen in the episode 'The Sound of Silence' and a Command version with the Radar as seen in the episode 'The Computer Affair'. Round 2 announced last year that since the Space 1999 part of their license with Anderson has been so successful they licensed UFO. IIRC the first two kits are going to be the interceptors and the SHADO mobiles. Knowing how R2 has been doing a lot of the scifi licenses of late they'll probably include parts for every version seen on screen or at minimum and after release of an expansion set for more involved variables.

    I have a couple of thousand paints of different brands, both enamels and acrylics and i have to say the vallejo are the nicest to use, with a nice range of additives like thinners, crackle effect, varnishes etc. Games Workshop do the second best. Obviously the Airfix/ Humbrol are the best enamels, but for 95% of my miniatures/ models i use Vallejo....edit, my fave vehicle was the spectrum persuit vehicle, SPV from Captain Scarlet, and at 58 yrs old I was lucky enough to own the originals as a child.

    • @timosdinkydetailing
      @timosdinkydetailing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the Vallejo too, particularly the metalic airbrush paints. I do have a problem, however with the "Candy" colours. You really need to paint a smooth coat of the same colour, and spray the candy on top. A lot of work. I also like the Mr. Hobby Aqueous paints, but they are a bit of a pain to clean up the airbrush afterwords.
      I now have two SPVs, neither in mint condition, but neither is rough enough to warrant a restoration. I didn't have any of the Anderson models until I was a teenager.

    Hello Timo, greetings from Canada. New subscriber and love your videos. I am restoring a Dinky 564 elevator loader. I am making some parts on a 3D printer (loading bin) but do you have any advice on replacing the belt?

      Glad you like my videos Gilles. I have replaced some caterpillar tracks before, and I suppose there are other ways to do it, but I just ordered replacement parts from Steve Flowers of Model Supplies in the Kingdom of UK. model-supplies.co.uk/
      The other way, which you are correctly thinking about would be to 3D print a belt using some rubbery resin, like "Siraya Tech Tenacious". I have some, but have only used it 50-50 with Siraya Tech Build. I think there is a mostly black Tenacious.

    • @timosdinkydetailing
      @timosdinkydetailing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Magnus. I bought my small screws on Amazon. I use 4-40 hex button head cap screws (the shortest I can get, 3/16) for most of my Dinky toys, but have used 2-56, and on the Matchbox Caterpillar, 0-80. For the smaller sizes, they are hard to find. I am using my collection of used screws from my Imax days. When we reassembled a camera (the old Mk II 70mm film cameras) we never reused fasteners. We always reassembled with brand new screws. We didn't want to have to extract a screw with a stripped hex socket on a million dollar camera. I kept the one time used screws instead of throwing them out.
      Metric (M2 or M3) are easier to get if you need to buy taps and drills too. I would spend a bit on getting quality taps because cheap taps will not cut well, and are more likely to break, spoiling your nice casting.
