@@MaxAfterburner It was dubbed. Subtitles were very rare even at that time (and before, and after). When I was a kid (60s) all TV-series ("Flipper", "Lassie", "Bonanza", .... you name it) were dubbed. Often they even had a german version of the title song. In fact I can't remember any series which had subtitles.
When i was a child (1977/1978) i was 7 or 8. A friend of mine had this Model (made out of metal) and he lend it to me so i could played with it. What a cool time i had. I allways will remember this Ship, it has a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing your work.
It is for it's original purpose. But it gets used unrealistically in the series, for planetary landings, when it is clearly designed for vacuum use. But yes, I could see a real version of this being built for transporting personnel and equipment around the lunar or other airless moons surfaces and into lunar orbit. If we're stuck with chemical fuels, the tanks would need to be bigger.

As a lifelong space 1999 fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Your obvious attention to detail and loving care shows in every single bit of the build. Hi Virgiliu Stancu, true fans make do with what they can to recreate their favorite ships! Way back when, I built a Battlestar Galactica out of cardboard during the original series run.
I love the show when I was a kid. I think the design of the ship has aged very well and your build is great 👍🏻 I would add some LED’s to bring it to life. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Hi Sono Barretta, glad you liked this Eagle and the video. Thanks for your thoughts on my Sophie. I just lost Brutus on January 19th in an incredible one-in-one hundred-million tragedy which has left me rocked to my core.
@@MaxAfterburner I have no words to at least ease the pain. no one has. no one can. but this is an old cliche but still true. dont focus on the loss remember the time you had.
Absolutely brilliant build!!! Love the attention to detail, the wash, weathering etc. However, surely,, the underside would have been dirtier, given the rocket blast/dirt/debris etc. Unless this Eagle had just had a jetwash!!! But such a petty point. Seriously, a great build, I want one!!!!! Space 1999 was a BIG part of my childhood, and this is a great model that really does honour those TV models!!! Excellent work!!
great build! I am sorry about your pupper, we lost our fur baby 1/2/23, he was 16 1/2. had him since he was 8 weeks old. I had the 3 foot long toy eagle as a kid, COOLEST toy i ever had!
Hi Craig, sorry for your recent loss. I wish I could have all of mine back more than anything in the world. I would have loved to have had the large Eagle back in the day as a kid, but I never had the opportunity to own one then.
The show's model builders originally scratch built everything, right up until commercial models of the Eagle began to appear, and then they would go to their nearest hobby shop and buy Eagle kits to assemble to use on the show! An interesting circular process.
Probably saved money too. First they don't have to build every little part. Second, if they didn't like how the model came out, they could easily scratch build parts to fix whatever didn't match the original, which saves more money since they already had a model to modify.
Actually, no. None of the Airfix/MPC kits made at the time were used on the show at all. At least not built into Eagles, as the old kits were not accurate enough to film. But some parts from the kit were used as dressing on other models.
@@jimsmalleimb7709 Indeed. My favourite (over) use of the Airfix Eagle kit was in the Italian would-be Star Wars movie Starcrash. You can find it on TH-cam. The opening shot of the obligatory 'big ship' sees the model detailed with every single Airfix Eagle part on the sprues: engine bells, the landing strut parts, even the cockpit is prominently seen. Another kit they really loved apparently was the Revell Saturn V rocket. Look it up, it's fun to see how many bits you recognise! But indeed, no Eagle Airfix models were abused in the production of Space:1999 🙂
Well SF kits were used as greeblies on many ship models made post-Star Wars until CGI kicked in and kinda ruined the art of scratchbuilding. They did use toy blasters as the basis for actual blasters in the Star Wars prequels. Nowadays it's 3D printing, which opens up a whole new world of possibility.
I built this about nine years ago, and it was broken. I hand painted it, but now I have an airbrush...will build a new one. Johnson worked on 2001, good music choice.
I have to say, when I started this video I was thinking this isn't very good. I've seen so many vids on this being built. I'm glad I stayed with it. It is actually one of the best paint jobs I've seen. Well done. Very well done. Hope you'll do the 48 scale Hawk.
Just bought the very same model but I have no experience building them, big fan of the eagle, was living in London when the series came out. This video is just what I needed to see, tons of info on how to build it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi josecastromora , that's great to hear and I hope you have a lot of fun building your own Eagle. Let me know if you have any questions should something arise. 😃
I LOVE how much detail you go into - I have just started the Hawk model and looked everywhere for a good demonstration to get realistic looking exhaust nozzles. The only thing I wish you did is list all the paints/powders you used in the description. But, nonetheless, a great and very helpful video! Thank you!
thats just beautiful....I have this kit half built, wanting to install electrics for lighting throughout...and then I got bored....but after seeing this I will get her back of the shelf and finish (without lighting).......awesome build......simply done...
This brings back some memories about my youth, i was a big fan of that series at 12 years old. Made a model like this one when i was 16, but the smaller version ...
Hi chevyfahrer, I guess for many of us the design has endured because it seems very much in the realm of what we're familiar with as far as its engineering.
@@MaxAfterburner Yes, I think I will. I have always built highly detailed models of real world subjects, but have been sort of “gravitating” towards Sci-Fi and space exploration models. Those shows and movies of the 60’s-80’s bring back fun memories indeed !
Great job! 17:26 That tank part was also used quite a bit on the Millennium Falcon. 17:19 Noticed the front and back halves of the Apollo Lunar Lander too 😄
Hi AWARHERO, many have commented on the nostalgic memories that have resurfaced for them. I'm glad it has touched people in a way that I had not anticipated to such a degree.
Awesome model and even more awesome attention to detail by you! I've been thinking of buying one of these for a while and now you've inspired me. This brings back memories of my dad, as we'd watch it together when I was a kid, I sometimes forget how he was a scifi nut too.
Hi Kev5565 , I'm glad you enjoyed the model build and that it brought back great memories of watching Space:1999 with your Dad. I hope you take the opportunity to build an Eagle! 🙂
Great video and excellent job on the Eagle! I've built the same kit myself a few years back, although I opted to add the aluminum engine bell upgrades which also included the struts for the landing pods. I also had to replace the springs as the ones in the kit would not allow the Eagle's gear to retract when landed. Definitely a sharp looking model!
Beautiful job! I found it interesting, and quite amusing that the model builders of the Eagle used very small parts of an Apollo LEM kit to add detail to the top of the Engineering and Service Modules! Very sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. Thanks for sharing this awesome build!

Hi buddy, your eagle transport looks amazing fantastic build paint and weathering job just awesome. I've still got my Eagle transporter from the TV series from the 1970s. I need to track down one of these kits. it looks awesome. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Hi Gary, thanks very much! This is my first Eagle even though I always wanted one of the plastic or metal diecast toy versions as a kid. What took me so long? 😊
I eventually will build this kit. Need to create more display space first. This kit should be under glass. Great job. Watched the show in the 70's with my brother. I agree one of the coolest ships in sci-fi.
Fantastic work! Thanks for sharing. I loved the show as a kid I think it aired tea time on Saturdays in the UK. I also think Airfix put out a kit of the Eagle but I never had it & I may be wrong. I drew the Eagle multiple times in space battles liberal use of felt tip pens for lasers and flaming thrusters!! haha simpler times :)
In the late 1970s , there were a Ton of abandoned buildings in my city (Newark NJ) and while playing inside one ,i found an EAGLE ONE ... intact and in great great shape. I was a kid at that time so other kids found out i had it and bullied it from me. It was an awesome toy tho, you could detach the front part and the rear engine to make a jet shuttle, leaving the middle as an stand alone housing or base.
Hi CF, I remember the Apollo astronauts commenting that when they re-entered the lunar module from their EVAs that their dusty spacesuits began to react with the air in their quarters. It wasn't all that pleasant especially with the sulfur components contained in the grime.
@@MaxAfterburner It sure did .. remember me and my mom sitting with popcorn and watching the the show. She later bought me the transporter as a toy in a some metal alloy, complete with detachable pod, sadly I lost it over the years

Good vibes, good memories, good model and great video - thank you for this!
Hi KetilDuna, you're welcome! So glad you had fun with this video and that it revived good thoughts of days past. 🙂
I was 5 years old when I saw Space, it was my loved series. We all started at school to make "Eagles" from cartons from cigarette packs - all children who had parents who were smokers were appreciated. :)
Hi Virgiliu Stancu, true fans make do with what they can to recreate their favorite ships! Way back when, I built a Battlestar Galactica out of cardboard during the original series run.
been watching your vids from your first build many years ago ... you've come a long way.
Hi tanitatt, the channel and some of my skills have certainly evolved. I wish I could "fix" some of the older videos production-wise at least. 😉
I love the show when I was a kid. I think the design of the ship has aged very well and your build is great 👍🏻 I would add some LED’s to bring it to life. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Hi Mickael, glad you enjoyed the show. Thanks for watching 🙂
Brilliant build and video that is watchable throughout. so sorry for your loss. pets leave just a big a hole in your heart as humans. Kind regards.
Well stated, thank you.
Excellent Job! I have both 1/48 Eagles. Watching this has given me lots of ideas. Thanks!
So great to hear, thanks Al 😃
Absolutely brilliant build!!! Love the attention to detail, the wash, weathering etc. However, surely,, the underside would have been dirtier, given the rocket blast/dirt/debris etc. Unless this Eagle had just had a jetwash!!!
But such a petty point. Seriously, a great build, I want one!!!!! Space 1999 was a BIG part of my childhood, and this is a great model that really does honour those TV models!!! Excellent work!!
Hi Jon, I really appreciate your generous comments. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
great build!
Amazing work. I remember being a kid watching it Sunday nights…. NEW EPISODES.
Hi JQ Public, thanks for the memories...😄
@@berendharmsen I don't know how accurate this kit is, but various 'service module' detail parts are clearly halves of a 1:144 lunar module.
Hi geographyinaction7814, glad you liked the music at the end and best wishes on your new Eagle 😊
Great job. Lots of tips for me to build my Eagles....
Hi Alex, that's great to hear! I hope it helps and that you can improve on any of the techniques that were tried out for better Eagle results. 😇
Great work. It has taken me back to my childhood, when I used to watch Space: 1999 on TV.
And I'm sorry to hear about Sophie...
Hi Jaime Gómez García, thanks for my Sophie and I'm happy you too also enjoyed the Eagle model and accompanying video. 🙂
I have to say, when I started this video I was thinking this isn't very good. I've seen so many vids on this being built. I'm glad I stayed with it. It is actually one of the best paint jobs I've seen. Well done. Very well done. Hope you'll do the 48 scale Hawk.
Hi jingles009, glad you stuck with it 😎
Just bought the very same model but I have no experience building them, big fan of the eagle, was living in London when the series came out. This video is just what I needed to see, tons of info on how to build it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi josecastromora , that's great to hear and I hope you have a lot of fun building your own Eagle. Let me know if you have any questions should something arise. 😃
Gros travail !
C'est magnifique, vraiment ! ;-)
Merci de partager vos techniques qui sont précises et bien détaillées dans cette vidéo !
Bonjour Erwan Corre, très contente que la vidéo vous ait plu !
glad to see your model builds again, especially a sci-fi project. welcome back Tom
Hi Peter, thanks -- went outside of our box on this one. It's the first space vehicle model I've built in a very long time 🤩. Thanks for watching!
Nice work! The eagle was the main reason I watched that show as a kid.
Thanks, justincase8533. I always looked forward to the scenes where the Eagle was involved too 😃
I LOVE how much detail you go into - I have just started the Hawk model and looked everywhere for a good demonstration to get realistic looking exhaust nozzles. The only thing I wish you did is list all the paints/powders you used in the description. But, nonetheless, a great and very helpful video! Thank you!
Hi Gregory, I have all the weathering powder sets used on the Eagle displayed on the screen at 31:04. Glad you liked the video 😃
A show ahead of its time. It looks amazing. Great work. Cheers.
Hi YH, thanks. It's a classic that still resonates with many today 🧐
thats just beautiful....I have this kit half built, wanting to install electrics for lighting throughout...and then I got bored....but after seeing this I will get her back of the shelf and finish (without lighting).......awesome build......simply done...
Hi Trooper, I hope the video helps in getting your Eagle finished 😇
@@MaxAfterburner dragged it off the shelf last night!! Thanks for motivating me buddy…
This brings back some memories about my youth, i was a big fan of that series at 12 years old. Made a model like this one when i was 16, but the smaller version ...
Hi Spongebob0911, time to go big and relive the memories. 😉
The Eagles are absolutely awesome, brilliant design, very realistic.
Hi PictureHouseCinema, still revered after almost 50 years! 🤩
you can easily imagine bringing one of these to the moon in parts and assemble it there.Well thought out design
Hi chevyfahrer, I guess for many of us the design has endured because it seems very much in the realm of what we're familiar with as far as its engineering.
This is one of the better builds on BoobTube. Well done. Weathering is pretty much spot on.
Hi jimsmalleimb7709, thanks so very much! This particular video has been quite popular view-wise on the channel as well. 🚀
Absolutely beautiful!!! One of my all time favorite space craft!
A great spaceship. Gratified you liked it, gospyro. 😊
You’ve only gone and made me buy one. Hope I can do it justice. Awesome results!
Hi ProjectEmily, glad you enjoyed the video! I know you can do it! 🦅
Perfectly timed…I was just looking at this kit recently… I used to watch the show as a kid.
Hi Giuseppe, wonderful! I hope it helps you decide to build it and that it also brings back the great memories of earlier times. 😊
17:19 Noticed the front and back halves of the Apollo Lunar Lander too 😄
Thanks, -ED case-, lots of familiar bits and pieces for sure.
Nice job and fun explanations. Thoroughly enjoyed the video and lots of memories.
Hi CrazyLocha, thanks, glad you liked it! 😄
I immediately lost 7 subscribers after I released it! 🤣
Super nice ! I building it a couple of year ago … you did a superb job !
Bonjour FrenchModelKit, Merci beaucoup! 😇
This brings back fond memories... I loved that show when i was a kid.
Nice work. This was a favorite ship of mine also back in the day. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Sky173, I'm finding out that the Eagle has a great appeal to many around the world.
Fantastic work , good dedication to you’re faithful hound also
Hello wesmander, thank you kindly 😃
Great video and excellent job on the Eagle! I've built the same kit myself a few years back, although I opted to add the aluminum engine bell upgrades which also included the struts for the landing pods. I also had to replace the springs as the ones in the kit would not allow the Eagle's gear to retract when landed. Definitely a sharp looking model!
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Noriko Takaya 😃
Wow - good job, made me remember watching this series !
Hi fredperry523, thanks. The show is long gone, but not forgotten 🤩
Outstanding work!!! I grew up watching the TV series and i have it on DVD.
Hi m1a1hm, thanks. Lots of memories are being resurfaced by this Eagle build. It's nice to hear 😃
Beautiful job! I found it interesting, and quite amusing that the model builders of the Eagle used very small parts of an Apollo LEM kit to add detail to the top of the Engineering and Service Modules! Very sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. Thanks for sharing this awesome build!
and tiger Tank parts added , quite normal for Gerry Anderson stuff to use kit parts !!
Thank you, brianc1701 🙂
Thanks for a very detailed build and a quite polished presentation. I loved the TV series when I was a young boy...
Hi Nick, I spent a LOT of time on the video's creation, probably 3 times more than on building the model. So, I'm glad you liked the presentation and that the model build brought back great childhood memories.
@@MaxAfterburner
Your effort was much appreciated, the production and filming was very smooth and the whole episode was a great experience/teaching aid.
Wish that others had spent so much effort polishing their presentation (but not everyone can do it)
Nice job! Great video, very inspirational/motivational. Keep up the videos!
Hi good2us, thanks very much on all your comments. I've had some curiosities, wondering if this Eagle model build video increased sales of this particular kit for hobby stores and MPC.
Stunning work
Hi Ray, thanks! 😎
i agree with you regards the spacecraft. i was awestruck with it. my neighbour had a diecast model of it but neither of us knew what it was from!
Hi Billy, its reputation seems to go above and beyond the TV show for many.
Amazing job and my condolences for Sophie.
Hello The420Earthling, much appreciated and thanks for your thoughts on Sophie.
Whoa... noice! All the detail that went into it...
RIP Sophie. 🐶
Hi Joe, thanks for your comments and for my Sophie.
Fantastic job happy modelling.
Hi militarymodellerpaul5932, thanks much, very appreciated 👨🚀😎
The amount of time and effort spent just masking up the various pieces tells me I could never do this.
Hi Chris, some of the masking goes more quickly than it would seem. But, it does take some work.
Awesome work - thank you for sharing 🙏🤘🤙🍀
Hi Matthias, thanks so very much for watching, glad you liked it! 😎🍀
Really exellent vid, the weathering makes this model pop.
Hey P J, there's a little bit of everything thrown onto this one😉! Thanks for watching!
Those are a great kit to build, I think I had ten of them when I was a kid
A veritable fleet for Tim's Moon base 😎
A fantastic build, and a beautiful tribute at the end.
Hi Simon, thanks for taking the time to write your nice comments 😊
I eventually will build this kit. Need to create more display space first. This kit should be under glass. Great job. Watched the show in the 70's with my brother. I agree one of the coolest ships in sci-fi.
Hi Tim, I hope the video inspires your build. I'm also delighted that it brought back youthful memories for you. 😄
What incredible attention to detail… great job !
Hey Paul, thanks! It's not a perfect outcome by me, but it was a fun build 😇
Wow, this brings back memories and oh my brother try to make this ship from pre-dated legos.
Hi Jonathan, it's a classic built in many different forms 🧐
Impressive build, very nice. I might have a go at this one. Thank you.
Thanks, Martin. It's a nice thing to look at especially when it's completed. 😃
An Awesome Job , One of the great space=ship designs.
Hi kiwiruna, thanks so much! It truly is a great design because, for me, it's look is grounded with elements of the real world.
Tremendous.
Thank you.
Bravo.
Hi billhosko7723, thank you so much! 🛰️👨🚀
Hi Sir Prancealott, imagination is sometimes the best artistry...
*....nice memories......great job....saludos desde Atacama. Chile*
Gracias, jota equis! 😃
Hi johnpetty3574, great find, but an infuriating loss. I wonder if any are still out there... 🤔
I loved the episode when a device suddenly gave the moon an atmosphere !
Hi CF, I remember the Apollo astronauts commenting that when they re-entered the lunar module from their EVAs that their dusty spacesuits began to react with the air in their quarters. It wasn't all that pleasant especially with the sulfur components contained in the grime.
The Last Sunset
I had that craft as a toy as a kid ❤ .. and I still remeber the series I watched with my mom at a very young age
Hi fluesmaekkeren, this video has turned into a time travel machine bringing nostalgic memories back for many people. Happy times! 🤩
@@MaxAfterburner It sure did .. remember me and my mom sitting with popcorn and watching the the show. She later bought me the transporter as a toy in a some metal alloy, complete with detachable pod, sadly I lost it over the years
Nothing else to say but... "Stunning"!! 🤩 👍
Hi Steve's Stuff, thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it.
