- Restoration of a Dinky SHADO 2 with custom 3D printed wheels. Apologies for the poor sound quality. Recorded on a GoPro not knowing the sound would be so poor.

Beautiful job....Very true to the TV series...Great to see this Gerry Anderson Sci Fi culture preserved.
My father was the toy buyer for the Belfast CoOp in the 1970s. His name was Frank Hamill and he loved scifi as did I. As a child I had Shadow 2 and the interceptor plus Eagle from 1999. I was so lucky to have such a great father.
I just found a SHADO 2 at the junk shop and bought it for 30p , I'm so pleased with my find and with your video I'll bring it to life again 😎
UFO was one of the best sci fi programmes in my school days.

Nice job, i love the 3d printed weeks, must get some myself, When i did mine a few years back i filled the roof in, and sprayed it with a mix of Tamyia paint, 60% Silver and 40% blue and home made decals
Lovely work. :) It always drove me nuts as a kid when the toy of something didn't resemble the original; you've made it look much more authentic. :)

Found my original but scratched dinky shado mobile at my late mums.
Its remarkably good considering its age but got original tracks and canopy flips open and even the original red tipped rocket.
Was gonna respray it green and light underside but having seen this i may go for a tv series accurate denim blue and grey underside then weather it and put new shado decal on ...
To remove the plastic wheel hubs in this vehicle ,on my Dinky Shado 2 I used a hair dryer to slightly soften then and used my hands and pliers to carefuly slide and pull them off ,plus washing up liquid on the hubs axles too,and to put back ,pushed them on carfully with washing up liquid on the carpet in my living room :)

Might I suggest using a small cup to place Screws, Springs, and other small-yet-critical bits into!?! This is a big help if you have either Cats, or Kids who'll jump up onto a work surface, or bump into things!

You axle reconstruction method can be sped up and easier you need to see Marty’s restoration ,uses a drill annd some altered nails, rounded out hollow in the bottom and same on the top so that it spins the axle in the bowl in the bottom one creating and lovely rounded finish, also get some sound improvement hamming real loud voice very very quite so low had turned up volumn then you hammered had to mute it LOL a microphone wont hurt ?
And give Martys channel a look he gets his decals/transfers from on line ? might save time and trouble for you later on ,neat restoration except hammering ?

Addendum: to do the Paint-Strip, please have all the other bits removed from the metal. The plastic Roof, and the Wheels could've been ruined by the chemical.
The roof is aluminium too.

@@Dreaded88 actually the platform is all metal, aluminium and steel, I know because I pulled one to pieces last night ready to dip in boiling caustic at work on Monday, I also plan on painting it in the metallic blue colour Jamie Anderson said his ex studio model his dad gave him is painted.

Very useful vid, thankyou, but I have to mention that I couldn't understand some of your dialogue which was as if you were mumbling.

Mine looks even worse, has no tiltable cover, bent axles and brown wheels (!) and is for th emometn manned by a (relatively) giant Gordon Tracy key fob but you surely prove even that one could be saved. But where did you get the tracks from? Where they also 3D printed?
You can get tracks from www.model-supplies.co.uk or search eBay.co.uk. Many reproduction parts are available for old Dinky toys from these sources. You're probably best to get another SHADO 2 that is in better shape for a restoration.
Thanks for the tip. I am sure I could restore it. I could build a cover myself since I do not insist too much on a perfect factory status. I for instance once (re)created the roof of a Rosenthal Fab 1 by cutting it out of a vegetable oil container. Still it still looks very good. (www.brassee.com/scalemodeling.html). I might indeed leave this one as it is though. It has bit of a story behind it. I bought it during a steam train meeting while visiting England with the family. It therefore always reminds me of the great atmosphere of that day. :-)

Any chance of you doing a detailed video on the spring for the roof? mines gone on a flat top shado 2 and I cant find where to get a replacement....any help would be much appreciated
You'd be best buying another shado 2 just to get the spring.
Does any one know of when a cheltnam tow truck was made I have one that's looking a bit sorry for it self so I'm going to give it a paint any know what year we're they made please advise

Why were you using the ball end of that ball-peen hammer rather than the flat peen?
I have some of those toys and I would get rid of and somebody would be interested

Well spotted. I could have done with a rust free shell as mine was pretty bad. I had actually considered using your fibreglass panels at one stage and wish I had when I realised just how badly fitting the Superformance panels I got were. I've been restoring this car for years now. It's been a real labour of love. I'm aiming to be on the road in the summer. Probably the only thing I'm short of is a rubber insert for the rear bumper.
John Ferguson silly thing to ask is the shadow mobile for sale? And how much would it be I've always wanted one but they seem to vanished off the face of the earth I loved my one but sadly it's gone let me know if they're for sale thanksl
