    Only problem with the game is a lack of team work, other team mates will leave you behind without a second thought, if people played as a team together and protected each other that piranha would be legless within seconds. Lights pick off lone undefended mechs.

      itz kind of funny....if most ppl are tier one u have an nascar...if most are below 2 itz a camp game.But in the end u are right bec since all ppl of all tiers get mixed again there are some doeing the nascar shit and some are camping ....so they spread all over the map and get eaten one by one.

      You are correct. The assaults he killed all had 1 thing in common. They were all ALONE! I play all sizes but prefer lights. Lone assaults are delicious. When I'm an assault, I don't wander off alone.

      This is a consistent problem across almost every multiplayer game today. So many people play for solo glory instead of reliable teamwork.

      @@fodderr6561 100%. Lights are not OP, but have a niche roll. The video demonstrates that big mechs on their own take a serious risk. I would suspect the video was T4 or T5 as high level players will use comms to call for help and will generally be close to support. Big mechs can virtually one shot a Piranha, so not OP against an experienced Assault pilot if he still has armor. A fresh Piranha late game when everyone's armor is depleted and few team mates can be OP. This is why a Piranha should be prioritized by a team early game. I have played Piranha's and had a bad time on most occasions, especially if you run into a streak boat or a fast medium with pulse lasers.

    This sh*t hasn't killed the game for me, but it has killed me playing most assaults. If I take out a 100tonner there's a 75% chance of being abandoned by my team and picked off right at the start, I felt that Annihilator's pain...

      @@gary0044187 No, the real problem is that the maps are constructed mostly in a fashion that rewards this kind of play and punishes assault mechs that arent in a team. Same with LRM spam. I don't know what the answers are to fix the issues of MWO but lets be real, its no fair or rewarding to play when the meta pushes you out.
      Also, people playing medium and heavies leaving behind assaults(to die usually) then complaining they have no back up is 100% of my game experience.

      solution: make more spawn points so when the match starts the teams are closer together and it varies so the battle is always at the start not marching to the middle... simple. why is it so hard to imagine the solution? this is the only solution and it's amazing it was never implemented before the games official release, coz without it the game is fkd

      @@thomasknight-wagener6630 smaller teams instead of 12v12 have 8v8s or 4v4s something that makes it more difficult to do things extra spawns and larger maps would also really help. However assaults need Team players and smaller maps to a degree. The problem with assaults lack of mobility makes them useless outside of a group scenario. So bigger spawn areas to split groups or smaller spawns to combine them larger maps and smaller teams could help but there's always issues. Everything is based off moving as a team and either Nascar or firing lines and basically wait or push etc. You're very limited from the large groups to assaults needing support to be viable. Lights and mediums and many heavies can do just fine alone in 4v4s or 8v8s with maybe 1 assault for 8v8..

    As a Urbanmech who lurkers by Heavy plus mechs, these are the encounters I wait for. Blast of twin snubb PPC and rattle of MG array, and suddenly people start paying attention to these shits when they appear on the minimap and target lock happen. As it turns out, your warnings get ignored if you call it out without a lock. AFK's are such good bait if you can ambush one off these shits from the rear. You can teach them real hard if they feel safe enough to stand still a moment.

    I've got no problem with the damage output. I have a problem with the fact that you get shot and nothing happens.

      yeah, I watch some of his matches and feel like he's turned damage off or something, I don't think he's actually doing that though, but there is clearly something wrong here. back when I played firestarter if I got caught out like he does so often, I would get legs ripped off my mech so fast my head would spin. Or I would lose greater than 20 percent of my armor trying to splash all the damage my torsos were taking in like one second flat. but this dude does things that at least when I played would have gotten me killed regularly, and they make his highlight videos while he talks about how op things are. so either he's not showing all the times he got killed for playing like this or there is something wrong with the game now that is giving him god mode regularly. I mean inherently, any vid from a sniper main claiming "lights are OP plx nerf" is going to be sus, but I can't tell you how many times I have watched his videos and wondered if he turned off his damage. that said, the number of times I have seen other mechs simply not shoot at him is tremendous as well, I wonder if that's just something new with the game that players just don't shoot at lights? again, I am more prone to think this is just him cherry picking his clips to make a point.

      @@gary0044187 most of these top end players know where the map bugs are too. Aka you can be shooting them and they're taking no damage coz you're only shooting into an invisible wall. But they have their mech aligned so that they can shoot you. Not saying they all do it but some do

      @@gary0044187 He is splashing the damage with his mech, and by constantly moving as fast as possible at all sorts of different angles, the majority of shots (or percentage thereof, such as lasers) simply miss. Lights, in particular certain ones like the Piranha and Commando (among others, like the Assassin) have very poor hitboxes that do not register hits well. Combined with the fact that a Firestarter is literally twice the size of a Piranha, and it's not hard to explain most of it away. If he had jump jets it would be even worse because of the wild interactions between hit reg and JJs when they're active.
      Some of this is also tactics: he flits between one target and another depending on how much he's being shot. Unless his opponent isn't fighting back effectively, he doesn't focus on any one target for more than perhaps a second or two before diverting. He's constantly going for different angles or if the same line, then a huge delay between the two strikes so his opponents 'forget' about him to shoot something else. Use of airstrikes force a delay from opponents while they backpedal, buying precious seconds to retreat and thus avoid even more damage. Really, he's just using the [broken] tools to illustrate the point, but some of this really is just solid play....admittedly rewarded out of measure to the broken aspects of some lights of course.

    The Piranha is what you get when ANY video game company decides to listen to competitive/"professional" players in their community. You get weapons/vehicles that have the ability to do things because of "skill", but it's never questioned whether it SHOULD.
    What new player will ever want to take the extreme time to learn this complicated and difficult game if a Piranha just shows up and destroys anything and everything, with absolutely zero respect to tonnage.

      Not to mention the ridiculously overpowered "Legend" mechs that you now can buy. Gone are the days of skillfully developing your mech through different weapons and skill settings. For $15 you can get a chassis that ignores the physics of the game.

      If piranhas are so OP then why isn't everyone playing them every game? Because when they play it they die. It's not the game balance it's skill. A good light pilot is a terror to big mechs. So don't isolate yourself & you won't get ganked.

      @@fodderr6561 I mean, imnot very good, but I grabbed the pir-2 and put 12 micro pulse lasers on it, and I did 798 damage and only took 80 in my last match, with 3 killing blows.

    Tbh if there was melee combat the lights hugging you up close would be solved and give slow heavy and assault mechs a chance cause you could just smash a light mech with a kick or a punch.

      Nope I remember in beta we had knockdowns, realistic, tragic and hilarious. When they took it out is when the Commando buttplug tactic to kill Atlases was born.

    I wouldn't mind this kind of burst DPS if it were on SRM or SPL lights, but the best light DPS build also being the build that never overheats and also takes away all your enemy's guns is a little questionable.

      Even worse when they run flames. Can't even turn around and defend yourself. Imo the game needs both a melee and a self-destruct option. Self destruction with massive damage benefits might make it harder for back stab builds to work. Trade off being that it can damage your surrounding teammates too.

      @@TravisParnell The problem is more fundamental - you can't melee a mech that accelerates faster than an F1, conversely, if you make light mechs accelerate like, you know, a mech, they're useless. Truth be told, in the Battletech universe it is already stated - mechs are weapons of terror. Light mechs are pirates and poor man's workhorses of terror. Which means that canonically, you only use a light mech if you're low on C-Bills. Even for scouting Mediums are better.
      One option is to make light mechs have few hardpoints, truly killing their niche and kicking it up to mediums maybe. The problem with MWO is that scouting has no mathematical advantage, the only role that lights can fulfill better than all the others. To me, the only real light mech in MWO is the Kit Fox - C. A mech for support and scouting, and little else. If all others were like that, then lights would be "fixed". That being said, there would not be any reason to have more light mechs other than one IS and one Clan, the Clan already being made.
      Or make Streaks have a bonus to locking and critting on lights. Or dequirking these back biters. Melees are for the tabletop. Realistically you'd only see melee in the Dark Ages anyway, Battletech has enough gaps in sense already. I mean, cannons weigh 12 tons and fire 20 kg slugs? Rheinmetal today could do a better job.

    The Light mechs that defies the laws of physics...and the laws of human biology.
    According to mech labs: a Locust fully skilled can go from 0 to 119.71 KPH in 1 second (3.371 G) and decelerate almost twice as fast (6.5 G)
    In fact after testing it in training ground, the Locust goes from 0 to 165 KPH in 0.95 second (4.92 G) and decelerate twice as fast (9+ G)
    I will not mention the ridiculous turning rate that would put to shame a F1 car with the center mass almost touching the ground...
    Apparently you can do that back and forth "dance" for as long as you want... (15 min in quick play if you are really dedicated)
    I do not care how big is your gyro or are good is your anti skid system, you can not stop a 20 tons object standing on 2 legs from toppling over or skidding with the center mass so high, pulling 9 G or even 5 G for that matter, without some kind of force field or other "magical" devices... At least not on a planet with a gravitational pull close to 1 G.
    Also the pilot would be unconscious or dead after the first minute of all that shaking and break dancing!! (probably in the first 20 seconds)

    The PIR was the biggest single mistake the devs made in MWO. The PIR was an anti- INFANTRY mech and was nearly worthless in mech vs mech combat. But in MWO it is ridiculously powerful. Pissed off a lot of people. I'm sure plenty of people are fine with it, but when you have a small niche player base to begin with it just isn't a good idea to do something like this.

      Totally agree. I would argue the second biggest mistake was the Urbanmech. They should never have made it remotely fast, but then it would never be purchased (slow urbies die quick). So now you've got one of the most OP mechs in the game that should never have been considered a serious threat. It's stupid.

      PIR can be very nasty in the tabletop game since machines guns mounted on mechs do two points of damage each. The biggest problem with this game is that weapon damage is not randomized through dice rolling like the board game is played. The old Battletech EA3025 did this, but also included the better and more veteran player you were you had slightly better chances of hitting your intended target.

But consider that the hit locations are random in tabletop it will take a while to chew through the armor of a heavy or assault mech ... the PIR in that instance is more of a threat for through-armor criticals (if you play with that rule) ... just due to the sheer number of roles of the dice. But without through armor criticals the PIR would not be much of a threat against heavier mechs (unless you are facing like a full star of PIR).

    MG's shouldnt do armour damage and you cant change my mind
    you cant convince me that armour that will stop a AC/20 doesnt just ignore a machine gun, this shit is if a 7.62 mini gun could kill a tank through its front plate

      I have to partially agree with you. In other mech games machine guns don't damage armor. In MWLL they only affected components and Elementals. However, the machine guns in MWO aren't 7.62mm. They are mech sized machine guns & they do low damage to armor. But if you have a lot of them it wears the armor down. Focusing on the MGs is erroneous. Focus on countering the lights with streaks, pulse lasers, LRMs, aim & not being isolated in a slow mech.

    6:31 the Irony of Budd Dwyer killing himself is not lost on me (if you don't know who he is look him up, he sacrificed alot to fight corruption and they even made a song about him).
    I never get these kinds of games though. Whenever I play a light as soon as I step out from cover i'm swarmed by 5 lights and they just run me down and kill me. The only reason I live as long as I do is because of my hitboxes being thin as toothpicks but having the same armor rating as a medium mech. Scout mechs need to be scouts, use narcs, call in airstrikes, etc. A light should really only be engaging another light, MAYBE a medium, but not be able to roflstomp a Mauler in under 5 seconds like in this video. MGs should NOT be doing armor damage. Component damage is fine but not armor damage. You should not be killing a Mauler before support can get to him and help.

    You could fix this if you got rid of Hard point Restrictions.. Clan IS Weapon restrictions.. Ghost heat.. and made the Jump Jets actually work.. also it would be nice to be able to perform Melee and knock downs. In the Law IS Mechs primary advantage is the ability to Melee where as the Clan Mechs can't.

    The issue is not that.. Everything can be countered. People leave assaults in the back instead of keeping pase with the pase of battle. Noone makes light hunter killers, noone protects the assaults. I have a LRM locust that i use to keep an eye on the field with and i have more than once deterred moves like this( though i cant duw much if the lights sneak up on me, 2 sm lasers dont do much and the lucust battle doctrine states to run away when facing a piranha.)

      The problem with light hunters, you are not necesserally will be viable in a match in abscence of strong light, and the lights you want to kill most of the time can drop you just as well as you can them, so they are pretty much viable regardless of situation.

      yes.. quite true especially in the sense of that Kodiak. Just a quick smash and that light mech is crippled if not destroyed entirely. What kills the game for me are these light mech builds that can kill you really quick like shown here. That kills the fun being taken out from the rear by a mech weighing 1/5 of yours. It's why i never put anything less than 7 or 8 points of armor to my rear. Least with that i can have a chance to twist before it takes out my entire torso. I agree that MGs should be pretty much nerfed to do nothing to an armored mech but good against exposed components.. same with flamers. Both are anti-infantry weapons in Game lore.

    The Problem is simple but unfixiable ATM: Many mechs in the original game and in the lore have a role in anti-tank/infantry/flyer. Which are non existend in MWO,.

      The natural counter to the Piranhas on the tabletop was that no one wanted to have to spend 10 minutes rolling dice to do 6 damage. They were deadly against vehicles because of the special critical hit rules, but against mechs it was a waste of time.

    what's killed the game for me is the crappy match making system that keeps me stuck in tier 4/3 matches with players who's solution to every problem is to hit it with a hammer and do not work together. I'm so sick of the game being about brawlers with no though to tactics or communication with the team. The games I found the most fun were the ones where we were talking to each other, calling out targets and focusing fire. sometimes we won, some times we lost, but it was 100% fun.

      It's either you're 1 guy, vs 5 assaults, you do top dmg and the team loses, or a whole lance gets picked off early because no one heard them say "everything is over here" and the team either catches the enemy off guard of gets steamrolled
      I only used to play the game with a group and I can see that solo queue is horrid, never should have done that to myself. Playing with my m8s, 600+dmg in an urbie/locust/anything impractical was regular, now it's just meta upon meta builds in your face 24/7
      I used to be in tier 2, after the reset, and playing solo, I can barely leave 3 :/ RIP

      @@madmansprinkles yeah i was tier 2 before the reset, then got stuck in tier three but because of the matchmaker was broken, i was degraded to tier 4. After they fixed the issue i made it back to 1/4 the way through tier 3 only for some reason, suddenly my tier dropped to close to being tier 4 (but still just on 3 side) and the only thing i had happen was that i didnt play for like 4 weeks. Now, it's like I get paired with the same fools in matches like before. It's like the match maker is now once again broken

    My biggest takeaway from this video? You legit punished people for trying to punish YOU, most mechs would immediately get torn apart if they did anything remotely close to this. It's stupid how well your Piranha deals said punishment as well.

    I have tried getting friends into Mechwarrior online. Do you know why they all quit after a week of trying it?? "Those small fast light mechs make the game not fun. Every game there is an army of light mechs piloted by try hards that are really good at the game and they just roast everyone."

    Light mechs are Scouts not over powered with 16 weapon slots cut that down to 2 then use it for scouting. If MWO had maps the size of Texas a scout would work well . You will never get me to believe the devs didn't know that that mech would be op. A scout should have to run from a assault. Just the opposite of what is happening.

    I one shot piranhas all the time. It’s a high risk high reward type of mech. What kills the game is when team does not communicate and keep firing line solid. When they do communicate it’s usually when we’re loosing and they are raging.

    First of great contant as always. I feel like the main problem with light mechs is the skillgap, they may statisticly underperform but if a good player gets the tools a light offers its just not balanced. That said i have no idea how to balance it beside giving especialy assault mech´s way better range of motion and turn speed to make it somewhat possible to track light, especialy yaw.

      Skill tree will do what you said. Yaw radius, pitch radius & speed. It is balanced, Anyone complaining of balance is most likely inexperienced. Streaks, pulse lasers, better aim & STICKING TOGETHER are all balance.

    Usually if I can stick with other larger mechs I do alright as an assault, but I still don't enjoy playing them much. I really like playing lights but the reward system seems messed up. I can spend a round spotting targets for our missiles, pulling mechs off the Frontline by harassing, capping objectives but my tier always goes down because I didn't focus on pure damage dealing. Even if I got 200 damage in a light mech but really helped the team my tier rating still goes down.

      You're right. The game's reward system is largely based on damage. It either gives very little reward, or none at all, to all thing things that help bring about a victory.
      The problem with these light weapons being abused, the machines guns and small lasers, is that they were never intended to be dangerous to a battlemech in the first place. Machine guns were strictly for use against infantry and small lasers were just shy of insignificant. But MWO ramped up the rate of fire on them to the point their damage output dwarfs larger weapons when you boat them. Range is the only limiting factor but range is largely irrelevant in the game when you can run 150+ kph to close distance and evade. It's absurd. I think the twitch players who are all about speed and quickness and being colossal assholes are the only ones who will continue playing the game because it's going to stop being fun for everyone else.

      If teamwork paid more than kills and damage (cbills and xp) as well as command abilities and skills. If teammates listen to leader they and leader gets extra points. The teams would form and such. Its kinda funny how easy it would be. And bigger maps would encourage team work..Lance's would make more sense etc.

    This is beyond absurd. Look at the mess they've made of light mech, I notice at 4:45 it took you longer to kill that Locust then it did to kill any assault or heavy and that says a lot right there.
    Add in the whole machine gun BS and it get nearly unplayable. MGs generate no heat, never jam and do more damage than other weapons quicker.
    Just for fun I did some testing. All on the testing ground, Tourmaline, and all on the Atlas.
    I used the Viper and the Mauler simply because they were platforms I had that already had the weapons required they just needed modifications to match the heat efficiency at a continuous fire level of 2/2.
    The Viper with HMGs was already at 2/2 since HMGs generate no heat.
    I had to strip all other weapons off the Mauler to add heat sinks to bring it up to 2/2.
    Then I used a PhoenixHawk with a more realistic heat efficiency of 1.45/2 which is how I run that mech in game.
    I chose to compare 6 HMGs to 6 Med. Lasers since Med. Lasers are probably the most generic and most used weapons in MWO.
    As you can see below the HMG was the fastest kill of a fresh Atlas firing constantly at the CT and did it while generating zero heat.
    The Med. Lasers at neutral heat were 1.8 seconds slower under the same conditions and at the same range.
    The Med. Lasers at a realistic heat level were 3.33 seconds slower under the same conditions and at the same range.
    Viper F, 6 HMG, Heat 2/2, range 40 meters, target fresh Atlas CT. Time to destruction = 20.72 seconds no overheat.
    Mauler 2P, 6 Med. Lasers, Heat 2/2, Range 40 meters, target fresh Atlas CT. Time to destruction = 22.52 no overheat.
    Phoenix Hawk 2, 6 Med. Lasers, Heat 1.45/2, Range 40 meters, target fresh Atlas CT. Time to destruction = 24.05 One overheat.
    Of course if you mention this or post the data on the MWO forums you get dogpiled by the cauldron aristocracy and their leg humping acolytes.
    This is why no one I play with with will give another dime to PGI until this is fixed.

      given the piranha's colossal close-range firepower and ability to close in seconds, this is truly the most absurd mech.
      as I already said - with such logic in the Battletech universe, it would not make sense to make an Atlas. why build one 100 ton Atlas when with the same resources you can build 5 20 ton Piranhas, which are not only stronger than the Atlas, but will also destroy it without even getting a scratch.
      Of course, I understand a little about PGI's desire to shift the balance towards fast, light, invincible mechs for newbies rushing into battle - this should tie newbies to the game.
      but in practice it breaks the overall logic of the game for those who are really attached to it because of the aesthetics of the Battletech universe.

      agree. there is no just git good solution with this type of gameplay. there are lots of solutions to to the problem that you they could try. "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO SOMETHING". make MG ramp up like flamers or rac's and jam, hardpoints, 360 radar "what's around you not just what people see", lag invincibility, more realistic momentum and JJs, game engine change, game mode that doesn't spit you back out to the mechlab after every match "continues gameplay server".
      I hate being "that guy" but this is why for the past couple months I've been going from MWO to the game that shall not be mentioned("mech warrior living legends"). at this point MWO feels like TF2 with nothing new besides hats(mechs) and the company wanting to move on to something new(MW5). if MWLL2 ever gets out and is just as good as the original I might not even bother playing MWO. its all just so tiresome.

      Piranhas are squish as hell and can be one shot easily.
      In a light vs light dogfight low cd arm mounted weapons are the way to go, piranhas need time to delivery DMG ( torso Mgs hardpoints ) almost every light mech can mitigate this ( pilot skills ).

      I believe you are relying on old stats. MGs used to be useless against armor, and were only dangerous to structure due to critical hits. However, after a patch a while back, they now chew through both with constant fire.
      Look at the damage stats for MGs. It's 1 DPS for MGs, 1.5 for HMGs (with only 10m less range.) That is before crits, which I believe still do a 10x multiplier. Clan HMG's also only weigh 0.5 tons, and the normal MGs weigh 0.25 tons.
      They have one of the highest, if not THE highest, DPS to tonnage ratio. And they produce 0 heat.
      The only downside is the short range, but that is easily dealt with by using a fast mech that can close quickly.
      Add in a mech that can mount 8 HMGs, is small, fast, and has good hitboxes, and you get the gameplay you just witnessed.
      Now, I think DATA's skill plays a role, and he certainly cherry picks his games when he uploads, but the speed that MG's can carve through assault armor is a bit absurd. If you don't believe me, make a 10 mg piranha and go to the testing grounds on Crimson strait. There is an Atlas about 100 m from the starting location, directly in front of you. Stock Atlas should have around 200 CT hitpoints. Test it for yourself against other weapons like Kestylll did. You will find it outperforms basically everything.

      In a high mobility medium clan is ok and fun, versus a low HP light like piranhas is only dangerou if you are shredded off guard mostly from behind or without team support, if you try to facehug a average player with piranhas in most tries you are goin to die for a well placed alpha.

      Knock downs ... if you're a light mech and you get hit by a gauss rifle or heavy gauss or an AC-20 in the leg, you fall down. If you're running at 150 kph and you run into an Atlas, you fall down. Then you immediately die.

    (JUST my opinion) I see several combined potential causes for these kind of outcomes
    1 - A very good/exceptional (competative) player against mostly casual players
    2 - Complete lack of teamwork, most of the time, in the Quickmatch Queue (kind of understandable as its casual players just playing when they get a chance)
    3 - Lights being slightly OP
    I feel lights should be balanced so that you need a full lance of lights to be able to take down a solo Assault, not a single light taking out several Assaults one after the other with barely 20% taken in return.
    I think solo lights should be good at scouting, capping, distracting, annoying the enemy team and fighting other enemy lights amongst a few other things, basically providing assistance to the Team, not necessarily being the damage/death dealers.
    I will normally play a light/medium and will always hang back with a slow moving Assault to give them support because you just KNOW that a pack of lights is skirting around the outside of the map, as fast as possible, to get to the slow moving Assaults. Meanwhile the majority of my team is usually steaming straight for the middle of the map with blinkers on.
    Sometimes I provide enough warning, and time, for the Assault(s) to continue moving whilst I fight (and usually die to) the lights, other times it gives the Assault some much needed backup, other times it makes no difference at all as we both end up dying stupidly quickly anyway becuase there is a full lance of lights which we simply have no chance against.
    A good match is usually one with Tactics, win or lose I will enjoy a game where someone on my team is good at, and actively calling out, tactics.
    A bad match is what I feel I see 19 times out of 20 where one side or the other is stomped, win or lose a stomp is NOT a good game for anyone involved.

      Have to disagree with you here. Lights are not OP at all. When you say they shouldn't be for killing, just harassment & capping you do realize there's a light mech literally called The Deaths Knell. Lights are for ganking lone large mechs just as much as scouting or capping. I killed 7 the other day in my Incubus. Yet the next game I had in my Mist Lynx I was going for a heavy & 5 of his buddies showed up & popped me. Mechwarrior is 33% skill 33% luck 33% mech used. What you're describing with needing a full Lance of lights to kill an assault is more descriptive of Elementals. There's Elementals in MWLL & that's what you have to do. Lights are a mech & if I can do 30 points of damage with 3 HML & shoot in the back & they only have 12 points of armor then that's just damage dealt.

      My comment was looking at the match from a team perspective.
      A light providing AMS, ECM, tag, narc, distraction, capping etc can be a HUGE benefit to the match/team IF it could be coded, and balanced, correctly.
      Obviously it would require the rework of almost every mech in the game as they would all need to provide a specific type of function to the match.
      Don't forget I'm thinking if this on a non QQ perspective.
      QQ it would never work as there is never enough teamwork and/or communication

    This is why I play in a support role the majority of the time in game. I find the closest assault mech and then stick with them throughout the match. I usually end up close to the top of the leader board.

    I've hit lights point blank with AC20s from my KGC and they don't even flinch. They should be bouncing across the tundra, not standing there shredding me to pieces. I've almost quit playing assaults. In fact I only play 4 or 5 medium and heavy Mechs out of the 254 in my whole collection.

      I play all sizes & don't find any problems like that when I'm in assault or heavy. When I'm in a light & get hit with an ac20 it hurts. I prefer lights but get popped sometimes. There's nothing wrong with the game. I've played since alpha. Seen many changes over the years. Game is fine. I don't have any problems so the problem is with you guys not the game.

      Once instantly popped a Flea with 2 2XUAC20 bursts from my KGC 000, but also got shredded almost to death by a Locust in the same match. Quickplay is awful and barely enjoyable to me anymore, and once you go up against a team that has like 4 dudes who think "so gauss + ppc was great in LL, let's keep doing that 9+ years later" it's just staying in cover if you can't match range while everyone wanders off to get popped. I used to main lights and my KGC way back, but rn I'm in the same boat as you with either running a medium or a heavy
      TBH I would rather play an extended MW3 campaign with co-op :/

      If you've played any other Mechwarrior game, you would understand how overpowered many of the light mechs are in MWO. A 35 ton mech was never meant to solo a 100ton assault mech. Lights were always used as scouts, and spotters, and vehicle/infantry clearing, that would run at the first sign of a Heavy, let alone an Assault class mech. In other words, it most definitely is an issue.

    The piranha is probably the only light mech I have a tea problem with because of the mg spam. Other than that I just think some of the light mechs are too tanky and other are paper thin like the raven

    I just started playing, I like mediums and I protect the assaults and heavies from this best I can …. I like to think in ship terms I’m a cruiser lights are destroyers and I’m protecting my battleships.

    i think the MG is a bit over powered for what it is supposed to do. Game lore has it being and antipersonnel weapon and pretty ineffective against Mechs. It should do very little damage to armored mechs but have a higher crit chance when fired at exposed systems.

    I think the community is ripe for a new online competitive mechwarrior game. This game is sooooooooo old. The engine is old. The gameplay is old. Everything about this game is ancient. The technology is there to make a far better mechwarrior game that allows physical attacks and doesn't introduce foreign mechanics (i.e. ghost heat) to the game. A game where the mechs have full mobility with arms, etc...

    What a joke. You are face timing assaults and heavies left and right far more effectively than a Dire wolf could dream. Or taking almost no damage, disengaging for 5 seconds, come back and flank to death. That mech should be boycotted lol. You are a lot more skilled than many players, but still it probably doesn't take god level skills to become more than a nuisance with that rig.

      It doesn't take much skill at all. If you can waggle a light mech back and forth, you're immune to most damage. Yeah, you'll eventually take significant damage or maybe get popped, but you'll erase a number of mechs over several games waiting for that to happen.

    Idk I just can't get a read on if you're serious or not. Because if you are serious, which I think you are, then why don't I see you running around in all Pir for Comp play? If they are so broken how come I only see assault spam in your Comp play vids.
    Ed: I'm an idiot, I answered my own question. It's obvious, it's because you're in QuickPlay. You can't get away with Light Mech Spam in Comp Play because....THE GAME IS BALANCED, or at least well enough balanced. Taking Light Mechs into QP and calling them OP is like taking candy from a baby and being confused why it was so easy.

    The piranah has an unreasonable number of mgs, like honestly you cannot just shoot a codiak for 3 seconds and destroy all of his side torso armor. That is fucking stupid. That is not how you balance an online PVP game. Mgs are stupid in general and make me sad, they are the best wepons on light mechs period.
    I genuinely am stumped on what we should do to lights in quickplay because they are either really flimzy or completely invincible. Either you have enough map knowledge and understand exactly how to peg every last heavy/medium/assault/light mech on the enemy team or you try to play like a normal mech and fucking die instantly from an enemy mech seeing you and sneezing.
    wonder what we should do about that lmao
    (edit: also lights running 140kph shouldn't be able to run up sheer cliffs)

      What you describe as either flimsy or invincible is called skill. If your good then you're going to kill a lot of mechs. If you're not you'll get popped. But no matter how good you are, you'll occasionally get popped. No matter how bad you are you'll get a backstab or 2 off. Many players think they're big & bad in their assault mech & just don't want to think about covering their a**. Then when they get ganked they say the game is unbalanced. My 5 streak4 Arctic Wolf would pop the piranha in the video in 3 shots. There's balance, people just don't want to do the things to protect themselves. They'd rather cry & petition to get the game changed to suit THEIR style of play than adapt & play smart.

Also, did you not see this fucker melt assault mech's frontal armor like butter? Is that balanced because some clan mechs can have one weapon system that counters the playstyle? Also yeah I know what skill is I alluded to it in the comment, I was saying that if you have the right amount of knowledge in the right places, then you just rip and tear, I have done it before.
      I think that lights are way more volatile, needing less skill to preform better, or at least with the right skill can work in a field where the only good counter is one hyper niche weapon system on a busted mech. Maybe I don't like running ONLY STREAKS to deal with a situation like this that isn't guaranteed to happen. Maybe the mechlab shouldn't be the only factor deciding weather I win or loose.
      Why don't you educate me on what a 100 tonner should do when the enemy team has a mech like this? wear more back armor? Just turn faster? Just hit your shots? Just don't be vulnerable to a mech that can turn up anywhere and leg your mech from any angle in 5 seconds? Should I torso twist more against the MG boat that doesn't have a weapon cooldown? Does "thinking about covering my ass" in an annihilator make my back stronger? Unless there is wall behind me and I want to never move again, no it does not.
      And before you say "team-play counters lights" that covers everything of course it hurts them, it's the same as saying "just play a better mech lmao" it is also not in your control in quickplay wether your team helps you. Lights should not entirely invalidate assaults. Period. Rock paper scissors is not fun in a pvp with no respawns in a quickplay system with randos that don't want to cooperate.

    Hit-reg was janky back when I played when it came to fighting lights and it appears it still is. That said, most of the pilots you were eating up were bad shots and had poor positioning and awareness.

    Yup, still a problem to this day. The tabletop and all the other games, make it clear that a light should not be able to take on an Assault like they do in MWO. A light should not be able to just run up and destroy an assault cause it can find a dead zone to hide in at its legs. If its running around while keeping a its guns on you is one thing. The dead zone it hides in that in table top an assault would simply body slam or rugby push the light and kill it with its weight alone is not in this game.

    i feel like just as much as that looks unfair, it is also really hard to pull off. Im fairly new to the game and playing a light mech i die in seconds. You obviously have an intimate knowledge of the map, tactics, enemy positions, and when to push / run. A heavy laser mech could kill you in 1 alpha strike if you messed up. Get caught in the open for a second, you dead.

      Untrue. I have seen Lights of all shapes and sizes take full alpha strikes from heavy gun and/or laser 'Mechs, and the Light just danced out of it like it was eating breakfast, nice and easy.

    This is a bugged hitbox that doesn't register damage properly when moving; been like this since they introduced Piranhas and still not fixed. Many are abusing jump jets right now doing the same thing with a horizontal glide and I even had a viper eagle abuse the shutdown startup mechanic some how taking 5x double heavy gauss blasts to the back at point blank without dying. The game server doesn't register a lot of the laser damage vs moving Piranha you have to hit them with projectiles coated in thoughts and prayers

    Well...I've not played in a while, a new player doesn't have it easy getting in when I first tried years ago esp when lights literally ate me alive then plus heavies and all others.......but I vividly remember those lights......the ankle biters I just couldn't get my guns on nor off my backside....shivers. Enjoyed playing lights, not a lot of damage and easily killed/crippled if not careful but useful for speed and marking targets for the others on the team......but I always ran into these specialized lights that always ate me alive...

    Until these people STOP putting only 3-4 armor in REAR this shit will still happen. I have ZERO issues with this type of gameplay as I NEVER have less than 14 armor in the rear of my heavies and assults and at lest 8 in the rest. There are countless times I have had an rocket locaust try to back me, and I turn around and one shot alpha them. I am also a Table top player that would put REAR mounted weapons on my mechs. Got to use them in a tabletop game, as the GM forgot I did it and even asked for my mech sheet. The other players even commented on it was stupid, but at that time were glad I had them.

    i started playing recently and i've gratvitated to light mechs. i play an anansi spider with light gauss, 2 ersl, 1 lmg, rocket 10, and 1 lams
    I see lights flanking etc but only a shitty assault player would be able to get 1v1'd by a light. The issue as others have stated is half the team likes to sit in a huddle with 0 sight lines on the enemy and let the enemy team take over every vantage on the map. I've seen it play out so many times. Of course ECM contributes to this as well but if people had more awareness/communication it's not an issue at all, as I've had games where we roast the Piranha step 1.
    I find a problem with light mechs is that it's harder to deal big damage. Even if you are having an effect on the match positively for your team, it won't necessarily be reflected in points.
    Also I feel like myself and others gravitated to light mechs because mediums just get pwned by everything anyways.

    As someone who primarily plays lights and assaults... if an assault pilot knows what he's doing he should be able to counter you. Literally all they have to do is back against a wall and unload weapons into your legs.
    This is just a skill issue tbh.

    As an AS7-lifer I can not stress enough that everyone of these assaults got what they deserved. No matter how annoying a light maybe be, it is twice as annoy to loss because youre team had 2 or 3 assaults trying to play snipey snipey a 1000m from the front.
    I am very rarely caught out alone as I dont play assults as long range snipers and dont bother with assults that cant keep up with the team. In the rare case that I am caught out my AC-20 makes quick work of lights. If I fail to leg the bastard in the first shot or two they usually have ran off to find easier targets. If they stick around and actually get me I only have myself to blame. If you Q up with an assult

      If the game would keep to the original ideas of max 12 plus 3 on cockpit and 20 points basically knocks the mech down it would solve allot if problems. An assault falling down and getting up might survive a light mech falls down it is unlikely to survive the followup shots. And damage dropoff on ballistics should be far less that laser.

    I don’t think there is really anything wrong with the mechs themselves, they all have a place. For personally, I don’t think machine guns should be able to do anything to Heavy and Assault mechs. To me that never made sense. You shoot a tank with a 7.62 1000 times and you do nothing to it but scratch the paint. That’s reality based and lore based. For me it makes sense for energy builds, cause a laser is a laser. Also they carry way too much ammo for Machine guns. There is also hard point limitations in Assaults and Heavy mechs. The lighter a mech the more hard points you get, the heavier, the fewer. Why can’t you have an assault with 40 heavy machine guns and 9 small lasers?
    The other issue is light mechs do not weigh 20-35 tons. Strip them down and you got mechs that weigh in at 10 tons, 15 tons, 20 tons. Half your load out is weapons and ammo. Where as 30% of the load on assaults is usually weapons and ammo. Assaults run very hot even though they are slow, while fast lights run very cool, it should be the exact opposite, Race cars are hot. They are light, fast and hot. You are moving 20 tons at 120kph, that’s a lot for 20 tons, and should require more cooling. The engine weight doesn’t make a lot of sense, as a mech like the Wasp has 10 tons worth of heat sinks in the engine. So what does the engine, frame, structure, armor, components, hydraulics, all that weigh. Well not much apparently. The game sort of ignores the built in heat sinks and transfers that weight to weapons.
    All mechs get 10 tons worth of cooling, but not all mechs get 10 tons worth of cooling weight. That’s really how they powered up the lights. An Urbie should slow, that’s its nature, but in the game it can be quite fast while carrying more weapons and armor than the lore suggests. Essentially engines weigh nothing close to what they should. And they have been given way more hard points. You have hard point limits with heavy and assault mechs, heat limits with heavy and assault mechs. Somehow machine guns generate no heat and the ammo weighs next to nothing for what you get. Remember machine guns are suppose to be an anti infantry weapon, not an assault mech killer that just shreds them.

    MWO MG’s should have jam and overheat, melt the barrels. Also the hit boxes combined with shady hit registration due to moving does make some lite mechs just too much for the average player to deal with 1v1.

      @@JGxDATA To be completely honest, as a tier 4 pilot who usually plays lights and mediums, I'm tired of the game being AssaultWarrior Online, where most games seem to be determined by which team the matchmaker gave more assaults. I do my best in my lights and I can take out one or two of them but most games it seems there are at least 5 assaults and it's just too much for me to deal with in my Locust, Jenner, Hunchback, etc. Sometimes I get lucky and I can actually herd the cats that is the solo-queue experience to the point we can focus fire but that's the exception.

      @@WayoftheFerret Some metas are stronger than others. Some tactics are going to work better at differient tiers or groups than others. But, metaphorically speaking, one can only run into a room and get shot (a la Halo, CoD, etc) the same way over and over and over again, and still get away with blaming everyone else.
      As far as what Data is 'playing into,' he's a rather long-term player that's amonst the highest skilled in the player base. He likely hit tier 1 again after the most recent reset within only a few days, if that. All he's trying to do is illustrate a point: there are some lights, like Piranhas (but also Cheetas, Linx, a few others) that are inherently broken.
      There are some matches that have a huge disproportionate number of assaults, sometimes your team and sometimes the other. There are some days I play and I swear I lost every single match I played but one or two because my team sucked. Then I look back at the Jarl's list and realize, wait, no, my average for the month W/L was actually 1.2 or 1.1 or whatever. And turns out I and/or my team, and thus my odds in fact, are not nearly as bad as I thought they were.
      Thus do Data's videos serve to give a bit of perspective.
      I personally like to mix up things also, but I realized a while ago if I ever really want to move out of tier 3 ( was tier 1 before the various resets and a year-long break), I need to go meta for a bit (6xLL Stalker, Chadoken, etc.), because at the end of the day my performance is my own, regardless of the team. But when a single player with a single mech can *consistently* run around doing a third of the team's work every single match....then something's not right.

    We are pretty much out of MWO with our 8 men unit, most of us playing since day 1. It's unbearable. Negotiation time with PGI is over too.

    That's why you should walk half-turned (that's literally how i catch half the starter flankers) at the start as assault and not abandon your rear armour, yes im looking at you annihilator.

    I rarely play heavy or assault mechs anymore. I am almost exclusively light and medium mechs. Too easy to get trashed by a light with ten machine guns. MGs are vastly overpowered in the game. They also take up far too little room for the damage they cause and the heat they generate.

    The Piranha is a great mech but it has no armor. With a competent pilot it is a great backstabber. It can kill frontally as well, but it's iffy because a competent enemy can blast you with one good shot to the CT

      ping's and hit registration are the best armor on the Piranha. DATA is excellent at twisting the legs but keeping the torso guns on target. His movements are on extreme angles, usually at full torso twist, and the legs are always moving.

      @@jeremykoenig5004 He's also a comp player and his reaction times are likely quicker than the average player. The assaults had trouble shooting back so we don't know what they were seeing. The Piranha is short and a large mech sometimes can't bring it's guns to bear. I've frontally killed DWFs by parking under their noses. But, a Madcat II or RFL can converge its guns on you and that is that.

      @@JGxDATA It has armor comparable to a Flea while being taller and slightly slower. It has no ECM and dies to missiles much easier. It can take a gauss hit to the CT once, but dual gauss or or heavy gauss and it's over. It is a very fast machine gun or micro laser turret that is very good mid to late game when there's less armor to chew through. It cannot tank like a WLF or a Commando. Artillery strikes will cut it in half if not outright kill it.

    They are definitely a pain in the ass. I managed to get my revenge on one that tried the same trick, I caught unto him at the last minute, he turned and ran and I just obliterated him with dual heavy gauss to his back CT. Really cathartic, but doesn't justify the stress it puts on players in general.

    So the gripe here is people wanna play long range heavy hitting weapons over well rounded and faster firing weapons to deal will the little guys. Look at you builds... 4 AC10s and 4 LRM 15s ect... people have build made for med-long range only play and ZERO skills in twist and moving and are bent because MOVING is part of the game. There are a ton of ways you can stop the light mechs even outside of your weapons and skills. You can stick with the other mechs and not go cowboy off alone for one.

    The problem is the game is unbalanced PGI goes in and adjusts your hit boxes and damage done when people complain your wining too much and that’s why lots of people are leaving

    This build ain't even possible.
    Tried recreating it and you can't fit all that equipment on the damned thing. At least not with that much ammo
    You would have to shift down from C-HMG to C-MG and you STILL won't get that much ammo. No idea HOW this guy managed this but my guess is some game balancing since.
