  • Does more compression make a mini bike faster?
    Did some speed tests with the Predator 212 powered Coleman CT200U-EX minibike with a thick head gasket and then swapped out the thick gasket for a thin head gasket to see if the bike would pick up performance?

    I appreciate the video and the tip! I'm curious as to what gear ratio were you using? I still have some things to add but 60mph is my goal and changing sprockets might be next! Thanks for the great content!

      Thanks! In this video the bike was running a straight chain. A 6 to 1 ratio, 10 on the clutch and a 60 on the rear sprocket.

      Get a 15t sprocket for the clutch bell housing get a flywheel, cam, valve springs, and a 22mm mikuni clone carburetor and 60 mph is definitely achievable my mini bike does 74mph on gps

    I still think you have the perfect format for doing a "tav2 tuning" series. people are always asking what is the best color spring and pre-load position in the driven pulley for their application. I'm sure there are tons of people that would really enjoy that information.

      For the best acceleration yellow spring in the tightest hole. You want the highest RPM possible at the belt shift.

    Yesss! Finally you do tests that these other mini bike/ go kart TH-cams couldn’t do for years!

    I paused at 6:50 to say that my guess is one point of compression should be about a 4% change in overall power across the curve not just peak.
    I expect to see a very miniscule difference in performance in this particular application.
    However with that said it certainly will not go faster with lower compression ratio!
    Edit : about 1.5mph top speed is quite a big difference! Love the testing methods and showing the data!
    Compression rules!
    It's "free" horsepower.
    These engines will easily run on 11:1 static compression on pump gas over the stock 8.5ish.
    Don't go so crazy as to run a cam without the compression release but man, pump em up to 12.5:1 and run 100 octane unleaded or even e-85 if you are looking for performance!
    Compression and a good cam will almost triple your horsepower in these applications.

    what a lot of people dont get is that different fuels need to be compressed differently. would be great to see fuel comparison with compression changes as well.

    • @Black66
      @Black66  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have some fuel comparison videos.

    • @williamstamper442
      @williamstamper442 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Octane is a value given to gasoline for it's resistance to combust when mixed with air.
      Higher octane fuel is a "slower burning" fuel to keep it simple. It's needed and used when the static and dynamic compression is enough to induce pre-ignition or detonation due to heat of compression.
      Yes different compression levels both static and dynamic require different octane, or different fuels is a more common way to say it rather than different fuels require different compression ratios. The comp ratio will determine your fuel octane needs.

    Puts a lil pep in ur step haha!
    On a real note: as you step up performance you must step up compression ! = more foot pounds of torque = More hp !

  • @williamstamper442
    @williamstamper442 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Imagine doing a point of compression comparison via head gasket swap at the track with your drag car! With a minibike this process is soooo much easier and less work!

    Make sure you use grade 8 bolts. I'm running a Tillotson 212 and my chain was coming off. Unfortunately I put a chain tensioner on it. I'm running 10 tooth Torx clutch and a 60 tooth rear sprocket. I weigh 200 lb. Replace the clutch and found out the engine pulled the threads out of my front- engine Bolt. lost the original bolts and put cheap ones in.. I feel like an idiot.😂😂😂 thank you so much for your videos.

    • @williamstamper442
      @williamstamper442 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My testing has found zero difference. But there is something to be said about low rpm takeoff from a standing start and also chain flutter at speed in regards to overall "feel" and more importantly chain reliability

    How come you didn’t check compression psi just to get a reading and then compare that for future builds on a CNC head . And just over all info

    • @williamstamper442
      @williamstamper442 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great point. Camshaft specs play a big part too in cranking compression numbers but for comparison in this vid with just a point change in static compression via a head gasket, cranking compression numbers could be valuable info

    IMHO, not good video info. If some person is running a hemi head with a +.020" rod, and flat top piston, then change to a .009" head gasket, the exhaust valve will hit the piston at that rpm. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow.... but it will hit eventually. "CHECK YOUR PISTON TO VALVE CLEARANCE" when working with a hemi head. Non hemi heads will allow much more room for error, IMHO.

    • @TedTucholski
      @TedTucholski ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Either way hemi or non-hemi, once the head is torqued down make sure you have at least 0.035 clearance between the piston and either valve during the engine's rotation. And having a higher compression ratio is always more horsepower.

    • @anthonyh.1512
      @anthonyh.1512 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @williamstamper442

      It's a matter of higher compression makes more power over the entire power curve, therefore mph is greater with more static comp ratio
