I'm glad you covered the price comparison between a dedicated camera setup and the Facecam Pro. A lot of the reviewers are being super critical of the Facecam but ignore or don't mention that a dedicated camera setup easily costs 2-3x as much for even a 1080p60 or maybe a 4k30 setup. 4k60 cameras cost a fortune more, and it's hard to beat the value aspect of the Facecam Pro.
I'm personally just glad Elgato is pushing quality into the webcam industry. There has been hardly any advancements for over a decade in quality. The only thing I am disappointed in is that there is no IR camera to support Windows Hello, I feel like that feature should be included in a $300 webcam. Even cheap $50 webcams support Windows Hello.

Wonderful review - thank you. Appreciate how deep you go here. I bought an Elgato Facecam Pro, have not opened it yet and now I don't think I will. I have been searching everywhere for a webcam that produce bokeh effect, using a mac. This isn't it unfortunately.
Please help: super newbie here. So i just got the lenovo legion 7i laptop. So i wanna do videos where its picture in picture. Like card openings where my phone captures the cards and the elgato captures my face up in the corner. And then i edit them together. Or do a livestream. Was wondering if this would work? And do i just plug it in and it records right to my laptop?? Or do i gotta get the 4k capture card or something?
You’re so lucky to have gotten one! I freaked out when I saw this camera was coming out because I have CP and am wheelchair bound so all I’ve ever been able to use are webcams because I physically can’t do a normal camera setup myself so this finally would’ve been a great camera for me but it’s already out of stock!

You just can't beat that Cannon color science! However you do look slightly over exposed for C-Log but, still beats the hell outta the Elgato colors especially in the skin tones very noticeable in-between the eyebrow area.

Thanks for the super thorough review. I have one on order. Currently use a Canon SL3, but the 4k is cropped like the m50. My current setup I’ll need to zoom in and out, seems like this would be an easy and retain quality for recordings.
Also with my Canon I have to flick it on every time and it moves the camera, so I have to spend time fixing the angle as well. I also like that I can control in camera setting on an app and not have to flip my camera around to adjust stuff like ISO, etc.
I guess I won’t know until I start using it, but it seems like a nice option.

While 300 is alot for a Webcam, the fact it can do 4k 60 at that price is pretty crazy honestly. That and getting a DSLR+Dummy battery for it+capture device for it, it just seems like a no brainer, even if it is just a webcam, and most cameras around that price might only do 4K 30

BTW Auto-fix has a "lock" feature so that once it kicks in, you can lock the setting. It is the key-icon to the right of auto-focus.

I currently have an Elgato Facecam but I'm struggling with 1080p recording. Once I zoom in it becomes very muddy. I think my lighting is fine. I have 2 Elgato Key Light Air.
There are currently good specials in South Africa. You can get the Canon M50 Mk2 for about R9 000. I want to record videos at 1080p 60fps. I can't find the Elgato Facecam Pro in South Arica yet but I assume it will be over R6000.
Do you think the image quality of the Canon M50 Mk2 is fairly better than the Facecam Pro at 1080p 60fps?

I have the FACE CAM PRO. But when I try to use the Blur background at 4k 60 it scales is back to 1080p 60. This happens when I’m using Streamlabs Obs. Is it limited to 1080p 60 for Virtual cam option in obs?

Is he blind or what? He's saying one thing even though what were seing in this video shows something entirely different. He says reh Facecam Pro looks better, just right, even though it looks outright trash. But his own video is quite flat and overexposed, so....
Why does the Pro looks so totally over the top pink even though he doesn't seem to see it at all. The pink background light might be a reason but it can't be the sole reason.
I can't stand reviews that just tell the viewer what they ASSUME instead of what's actually fact
TH-camr's rule #26: when making comparision of DSLR and webcam, make DSLR look as bad as possible and provide the best settings for a webcam (and never compare bad webcam settings with good DSLR settings). Literally everyone doing it nowadays.
I thought it was just me... the footage looks horrid.

Facecam looks really good but the R7 is so nice and clean.
Looks like contrast and saturation could be improved out of the box.
"USB 3" is not a connector. I think you meant USB A. Connectors can be any speed.

Thing with Elgato and other' pricey webcams... anyone can tell the difference with camera. Any shot with real camera have real bokeh and anyone can see where the real lenses were used. I give credit to Elgato for trying but still there's no need to pay 300 usd (actually 500 bucks in my area) for a webcam quality even if it's the best one out there. Not a knock on Elgato, tho. They're doing their best. But still... webcam is a webcam with all webcam problems.

I really wish you would have labeled your comparison videos so we knew which was which. For me the first comparison the video on the right had the best color. While I the 2nd comparison the video on the left looked better color wise. The one on the right looked very flat and dull. Maybe that's what you wanted. The dust comparison I think the one on the right was the facecam pro but you didn't day or show and the 2nd I think you switched it up never the one in the right still had the washed out color. And the color just didn't pop out especially the reds

i like webcams without build in microfoon this is why i choose the facecam vs the facecam pro cuz i dont like build in mics in webcams srry cannot help that if u tell me or us the pro got a build in mic atleast iam not going for that thats is just my opionion

How did you run the Facecam and the Facecam Pro to run at the same time? As soon as I run the Pro, the regular cam freezes and goes so slow.

Would this camera upgrade (compared to the standard face cam) make any difference in streaming quality over zoom? Most of my live events are through zoom (not my choice), but I'm always looking for ways to improve my quality.

@@MurrayFrost sorry - poor choice of words. I primarily do my work in zoom, with a touch of other similar platforms (meet, teams). I host virtual events for businesses and use their platform which is generally one of the above. So not worth it over those platforms?
If it's just for meetings on those platforms then it is not worth the upgrade. No one is going to care about your quality and it's going to be overkill. Bluntly put. :) But if you ever live stream then it's a great option.

@@JeremyShorr Not sure if zoom uses a set resolution for the facecam or not. You can check by using your facecam on zoom and opening camerahub. It should say under the device tab what format is being used. If it's not going to 4k then it won't be used to its full potential unless you like the new zoom and auto focus feature.

The only thing this camera actually improves is the option to change the focus. No one really needs 4k for YT, since only a handful of people actually watch on big screen TV/monitor, with most watching on phones or tablets. The rest of the features, like color and sharpness are really insignificant in impact.
For me, it does'nt look "sharp" and the fisheye optic is something i want not to see at this pricerange. Who needs 4k@60 in a Web-Cam?
People who want to also record their face at a higher resolution...

@@haraldsimon2807 because not every camera is the same and different colors appeal to different people more. 4k doesn't necessarily mean it looks better, it means it holds more data as it is made up of more pixels.

This camera is just... yikes... 4K looking like some generic 720p old ai upscale.... i am always using my gopro 9 as a webcam when i want so really crisp quality.
How do you get gopro9 with crisp quality? I have a gopro 9 and it's really terrible as webcam in my experience with the webcam app downloaded 🥲 it makes my skin extremely yellow and it's extremely pixelated in output quality... I cant adjust the camera settings at all USING OBS
FYI, you keep saying, "USB-C to USB 3.0" and there is no such thing.
USB 3.0 is a SPEED standard, NOT a connector type.
If you want to talk about connector types, then you should be using letters: Type-A, Type-B, Mini, Micro, USB-C, etc.
If you want to talk about USB speeds, then you use numbers: USB 3.0, USB 3.1,USB 3.2, and USB4.
For example, you can buy USB 3.0 cables with Type-A connectors, Type-B connectors, Type-B MICRO connectors, and USB-C connectors. They are ALL USB 3.0, but they have different connectors.
As for USB speed standards:
. USB 2.0 = 480 Mbps
. USB 3.0 = 5 Gbps
. USB 3.1 = 10 Gbps
. USB 3.2 = 20 Gbps
. USB 4.0 = 40 Gbps
Then, just to make sure we all stay confused, we have to also consider thunderbolt 3 and 4 ports and cables - which are *not* USB technology, but they use USB-C connectors.
Thunderbolt 4 cables are somewhat similar in speed to USB4, but thunderbolt cables can transfer power and data over longer distances - more than twice as long. Thunderbolt has other advantages over USB4 too, but that's close enough.
Can you get 1440p 60fps?

Yeah. That’s something worth noting. But keep in mind you would not have noticed it as much if it was just by it’s self with nothing to compare it to. But again, you can always fix it

I bought the camera and it works great, but DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET A USBC CABLE FROM ELGATO FOR OVER 5 MONTHS. IT TAKES A SPECIAL CABLE AND THEY'VE BEEN SOLD OUT. I WOULD CHECK IF THEY HAVE FIXED THEIR SUPPLY PROBLEM BEFORE BUYING
All you need is a fast usbc to usbc (got mine from Amazon) or you can get a usbc to usb 3.0 cable. Same thing and still works for me
@@MurrayFrost thank you, I ended up picking up USB 3.2 GEN 2X2 20bps Type-C. I'm just really annoyed because Elgato warns you about using aftermarket USB 3.0 cables. Hopefully Elgato fixes their supply chain Facecam Pro cables. I'm 100% happy with the Camera
Honestly, the fact that it doesn't come with a cap to put on the lens, like the normal facecam has, I don't want it. I want to be able to cover up that lens when the cam is not in use, just in case.
