    • @voplex
      @voplex ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LencoTB USB mics aren’t anything particularly crazy. But having one that is GOOD and at the affordable price that Elgato offers, is nuts. It’s because in the past, if you wanted to get anything quality for mics on a computer, you would use an XLR mic. But you’d always have to convert that to digital as well which sucks. So first you have to buy a more expensive XLR mic and then also purchase supplies that would enable you to convert that signal to digital. If you have a mic like the wave 1 / wave 3, it’s a really really good mic for anyone that doesn’t need to do professional audio work at a fraction of the cost

I just want minimalist design and something I can clip on on the of my monitor. I don’t need any fancy arms or big mics. After owning both of them, I can say with certainty that the Insta360 is my favorite camera. The face tracking, whiteboard tracking, overhead and desktop modes more than make up for any video quality disparities (although I couldn't really tell the difference). The other bit that impressed me with the Insta360 is how sturdy and reliable it is. When I plug it in it just works. Elgato products have always been hit or miss with me. Like having to powercycle them to get them to work. The Insta360 has also survived two falls from my monitor and it keeps on working. The only thing I dislike about most modern cameras is that the clipping mechanism they use to sit on the monitor is usually inefficient for all but the slimmest monitors.

    I've done content showing that a secondhand Sony A5000 (with a quick software trick) and a secondhand Sony 16mm F2.8 lens with a dummy battery and capture card could all be had under $300. If the 4k isn't a selling point to someone, I'd say this is the way to go in the $200-$300 price bracket instead of a webcam. Big 1080p quality difference, as you showed, for same to less money. Interchangable lens mirrorless camera setup for under $300. Hard to beat. Unless the 4k is needed, I'd say seeking out the under $300 A5000 combo is worth the little bit of work to utilize it. Though it is safe to say, this is probably the best looking webcam yet. But the best sure comes at a cost.

    A quick note: Your video isn't correctly in sync with the audio - the audio of your voice runs ahead your lips. That's the opposite how it works in nature: Humans normally even expect audio delay through the limited speed of sound in air. This video turns that around and thus feels really really odd.

    • @shockthetoast
      @shockthetoast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because he's filming the entire video on the webcam. The webcam looks to be pretty big. I have the Facecam and wouldn't recommend it for showing things on a desk, but a main part of it is the lack of focus options there (it has a completely fixed focus), so this may fix that. But what I would probably suggest is using your phone camera if you have a phone with a decent camera. There's a few apps to let you use your camera on OBS. What I used was Droidcam OBS for android, which uses a plugin to connect directly to OBS. Most apps create a local webserver that you add as a web source. This worked fantastically for years for me, until I finally picked up a DSLR.

      @@eversinging I'm an Insta360 Link owner as well :) Facecam Pro has 4k60 while Insta is only 4k30. But 4k60 requires too much data to work on Teams/Zoom calls. I only use a 720p signal when sizing my camera down for game streams anyways. So if 4k60 doesn't matter to me, then Insta360 wins hands down due to superior image processing, gimbal, etc.

      Yeah Insta360 also doesn't have any noticeable focus breathing (at least I noticed none so far). About two years ago, I was looking to step up from the venerable Logitech C920, and bought a Mokose UC-70 camera. Although marketed as an "industrial" camera, it's a standard USB UVC camera (no bundled software) and, as such, works out of the box on any computer. It also has a large 1/1.8" sensor (my copy contains an Omnivision OS08A10) that captures 4K/30p, and does pretty well in my dimly-lit office.
    Unfortunately, the camera has some quirks which make it less than ideal for your average streamer. For example, the lens is fully manual -- no auto-focus or -exposure. You have to reach over and twist the focus and iris rings by hand. Like most "industrial" cameras, it takes interchangeable C-mount lenses. This is the lens mount used on old 16mm movie cameras, which means you can pick from a vast selection of used lenses going back 70+ years, if you're into that.
    The camera's firmware also has some quirks. For example, it reports a microphone input, when in fact there is no microphone, nor is there a connection for one. And although the sensor itself claims it can capture 4K/60p, the firmware doesn't support it.
    Still, it's met my needs so far. So if you're willing to deal with it's quirks, you can get the whole thing for well under $200, lens included.

Arri alexas are the gold standard for any high production film making, almost every movie nowadays is filmed with an arri and the starting price of an arri is around $30,000... they aren't full frame. This doesn't mean full frame is bad, but it shows it doesn't matter, just like resolution doesn't matter after a certain point. arri shows effort into how video is taken and processed is so much more important than specs on a sheet and it's why they are the first pick for most movie studios.

    My biggest issue with my current webcam is that it blows out my face too much because I'm so pale that my face reflects all the lights to the camera 😅
    Does this camera treat pale boys well?
    Thanks for your video reviews Alpha 🙏

    Webcams should look like this at a MINIMUM. FINALLY! With how big they are you'd think they'd fit proper sensors and hardware to give you DSLR like quality. Just before I was thinking of buying the Insta360 Link too.

    • @JYoutubes10
      @JYoutubes10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As an Insta360 Link owner, I think it provides a nicer looking image than what I've seen from Facecam Pro videos so far. Insta has great white balance and auto exposure (with curves adjustments) that can produce a good image in pretty much any lighting. It provides a decent bokeh for a webcam as well. You may still want to consider it!

    • @DylRicho
      @DylRicho ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't need 4K/60 and want the mic, the Link might be the better option for you. I remember picking up a webcam back in 2013 which shot in 720p/30. It cost me $40. It's crazy to think that 10 years later, we still can't get 1080/60 webcams for the same price.

    sadly, despite 4k60p, it was unusable for me for copletely lights off / low-light streams due to the EXTREME noise, purplish-white haze and shutter speed. had to send it back to the shop and got kyio pro ultra. night and day difference for lowlight. also, bokeh and colors are great on kyio ultra.

  • @Skapo
    @Skapo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wanna clarify, GoPro's & DJI Action cameras are available for much cheaper with 4k 60p (and arguably better image quality). Phones have been doing 4k60p for like 7 years now. Don't think the resolution comparison to normal cameras really means much.
    Very cool webcam though! Definitely looks like it's got a lot of value. Don't wanna take away from that, but just worth noting for people less familar with the world of cameras.

  • @lyianx

    One thing you neglected to do, was show the camera itself. Ive seen the promo for it in the Cam Link update. It looks BIG. Like 2x as big as the facecam. That can be fairly important info for someone to have.. the size of the thing.
    Also. The price. While the Facecam is about $150, the Facecam Pro is $300. Kind of another important detail left out.

    • @the.danielmason
      @the.danielmason 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I wish he mentioned the price. I think the main reason he didn’t show the camera was because it was his A-Roll shot, and he wanted to keep the integrity of the theme which was “you can shoot a TH-cam video with this camera.” But yeah. The physical overview would have been nice.

    • @ad_fletch

      Instalink only does 4k @30. It does have some very impressive features that this cam doesn't have. I got one for my son's content creation. He likes it a lot, but he does like the FOV on the Elgato better.

    I watched this video a month ago, came back to make sure i checked this camera out a little closer, and fyi nowhere in your description or title do you name this camera. I just wanted to make sure I looked at THE camera. I was almost confused by the fact that the first camera listed on the Elgato site is the Facecam. Not the Facecam Pro. That's when I came back here thinking surely he didn't review a camera over a year old, I could swear it was new. Oy the things we go through to make sure we're looking the right equipment sometimes. Thanks for the video. I'm hoping this camera is great for overhead detail.

    • @DG-america

      The Facecam is enough reason to move from the Razor. They are a mediocre product company with premium name prices. I buy Logitech over Razor.
