How is it that no matter how much garden we have, we’d always like more? And because seeing it grow is such a joy we hate to cut them and bring them in! Maybe one year you could dedicate a row to “Dollar Store” seeds, to show us economically impaired gardeners if there’s really a big difference in the end product? $3 seed packets add up fast vs 4/$1 at the Dollar Store.
I've used seeds from Walmart last year. The seeds were supposed to be short zinnias around my mailbox. Well the "shorties" grew to 4 feet or more. 😂 LoL! The mail lady stopped me one day and said she looked forward to delivering mail to my mailbox everyday because the flowers were so pretty. If it hadn't been for covid-19, I'd have cut some of the zinnias and given her a bouquet. Maybe this year. I did notice that not all of the cheaper seeds germinate and I had to buy more. I think this is probably the difference between cheaper seeds and the $3 per packet seeds. My cost last year probably was closer to the $3 per packet to get the amount of zinnia seeds I needed to grow. Happy gardening!
I've seen other You Tube videos doing this, and somehow there is usually an issue... Mislabeled packets, or just very old seeds, and bulbs. I do remember one girl doing this with Ranunculus corns, as it happens! Her rate of germination was extremely low. I think she got 2 to germinate out of 2 dozen corns? Don't quote me on that, I watched a long time ago. But hey! She DID get 2 plants at that bargain price!! So I think if you've got a thick skin for low germination numbers, it wouldn't be a terrible idea! Who knows, you may even get lucky!!
Dollar store seeds are legitimate seeds. The germination rate isn't guaranteed like the more expensive seed companies, but they do still germinate. The biggest thing to watch for with them is the quantity of seeds in the cheaper packets. Sometimes, by the time you have bought enough packets to get the quantity of seeds you need (of one thing) it ends up not being the bargain you thought, in comparison to more expensive packets. Some of those 25-50c packets are pretty light on seeds (especially flower mixes and carrots).
I tried the Dollarstore seeds this year...well, you get what you pay for...basically nothing!... did not germinate, did not grow...you are better off buying those bags of McKenzie Wild Flower seed for 10 bucks at Walmart...

Your cut flower garden is looking great already with flowers that are in bloom. Looking forward to seeing it in full bloom. It’s going to be amazing. People in urban areas who are struggling and surrounded by buildings, concrete, pavement and utility poles would be grateful for a little bouquet.....something that is a luxury they simply can’t afford. I’m sure it would be appreciated and uplifting, especially after the horrific year we have just been through. @@McClintockNYC She was talking about changing the name ....but....she didn't. In this video she called it the Cut Flower Garden . So as long a she calls it The Cut Flower Garden ....it's The Cut Flower Garden.
You take me back to my gardening days. Thank you, Laura. I hope that I can get back to it someday, but if I don't, your enthusiasm will always remind me of my love of gardening!
Hey, you used the spittoon! 😂 These are so lovely, and there is so much information packed in to these videos I never knew I needed! It's a good excuse to watch them several times though 😜
It'll come in time! :) I keep looking at our yard thinking - how on earth am I going to fit everything I want in years to come and still have room for the kids to play?? Of course, by the time I actually get all my projects in hand the kids might already be grown...
Get started this year and you will have so much by end of the year and more next year! The money I would spend on facials, pedicure clothes all going to the gardening - and I am happy because every one in the family can enjoy. I started last year first time gardening successfully ( killed several plants in the past ).
I Absolutely Loved the amount of sunflowers you planted last year. It was the most amazing thing. For those of you who love to watch every morning with your coffee or tea. I started watching old olds again. I love to watch every day so that is how I get my fix.
I ordered mine last October and didn't get them till the middle of April. I don't think mine will have any buds. It's in the high 90's this week and I don't think they like hot weather. Oh well, maybe next year I'll order from Floret.
@@karentorbert5646 the only plants of mine that have buds were started literally February 1st... which to me seems ridiculous to have to start that early. I don't think my other corms I started later will flower at all. Maybe we've just had a too hot spring? I'm in zone 5b and usually we don't have this many days in the upper 80s this early in the year!
It's amazing how such a weird corn or tuber can give our eyes such a beautiful treat when flowers grow from them. Laura you've become a natural florist and each arrangement becomes a work of art.
Beautiful bouquets! I've been wondering, how do you change the water in such large vases/containers without completely messing up the flower arrangement?
In a previous video I remember her saying she takes the arrangement to the sink and floods the vase with fresh water - just lets it fill and run over - so it flushes out most of the old water. She explained it better but I hope you kind of get what I mean🌸
@@sheilastromberger2275 Thank you for answering my question! That makes so much more sense than trying to remove everything and keep the arrangement intact.
Those raised beds are such a star this year with wall to wall colorfull blossoms. The pink and rose colors of the ranunculus are incredible! Good choice
@@Edu_Kate isn’t that the truth??? We get frost and freeze warnings in May. Then June hit!!! The weatherman said yesterday we are almost 3 inches below average. Very different from last year.
I ordered about 50 ranunculus corms this year to try them out and have exactly 3 plants, two of which are looking pretty puny. I have no idea what I did wrong! I did the running water thing before I put them into some potting soil, but had very poor germination. And the ones that survived did not do well when I brought them outside each day to harden off a little bit. Any suggestions?
I have had some success with ranunculus but nothing as gorgeous as Laura’s. I bought some late in spring and lost a whole tray to overwatering. The corms basically disintegrated. The ones that I planted outside in well drained soil (zone 6A) in March, did the best. The part where she placed them in moist soil and then left them alone for two weeks, was the most important part. She did not water. They absorb the water from the moist soil and need very little water to sprout. I had some actually grow baby ranunculus, so that was fun to find when I started digging the corms out of the soil. For some reason, the ranunculus liked one of my garden beds and kept coming back each year without messing with them. I do mulch a lot though. My best guess would be overwatering that did your corms in. I would keep trying. Once you figure out what they like, they are so amazing to have in the spring. They last longer than daffodils or tulips and don’t mind the frost. Another early blooming flower to try is the small english daisies. They are small and low to the ground and will flower all spring. They also make me so happy.
You are such an inspiration. I’ve been watching you for a few years now and I’ve learned so much! I don’t have an outdoor garden for myself yet, but I look forward to the day that I do! ❤️

I remember the abundance last year and all the arrangements you and your mom made to give away. Have you ever thought about going to a depressed area and passing out bouquets? People in urban areas who are struggling and surrounded by buildings, concrete, pavement and utility poles would be grateful for a little bouquet.....something that is a luxury they simply can’t afford. I’m sure it would be appreciated and uplifting, especially after the horrific year we have just been through. You are such a thoughtful, giving person....you share so much with so many...you have a truly good soul. I have so much admiration and respect for you. You are a good example for all of us. Thank you for doing these videos and sharing your life and family with us. We appreciate the knowledge you give us, which I know is your intent, but you give us sooooooooooo much more. Love you.
Good morning. You put together the most beautiful floral arrangements. I love how you add different elements from your garden to the flowers. Just so, so pretty.
I absolutely love your flowers . Everything you do is absolutely beautiful.
My husband passed away a couple of years ago and I tried to keep his live plants alive . During that time I found my love for plants flowers and trees.
I just wish I could afford to purchase the seeds to plant.
But I do love watching you plant .
Thank you so much for sharing.
I hope my flower garden can look at least 25% of yours. What a beautiful place
Especially all throughout the year! Mine looks good in spring.. not impeccable like Laura's, but pleasant. Come Texas summer, all is gone! So kudos to her for all season beauty.
Came back here after Laura posted ranunculus pics on IG in May 2024. I kinda like the old format that GA has which is very educational. Love the details and the comparison. Thank you GA esp Laura.
Gorgeous flower arrangements for your home, homegrown! Win/Win!! Can't wait to see the colour burst on the new property in the next few weeks. Will be heaven on earth! 🏵🌺🌹
Wow!!!! Just wow!!!! They look amazing!!!!
What a glorious video! Your arrangements are absolutely beautiful! You are SO talented, Laura!
Watching her videos the least i have realised is that her garden is so good because she's investing so much of her time nd money into it....so much fertilizers and medicines and composts, and is always on top of her garden work!! We salute u Laura!!!💓💓
Love the arrangements! Taking a break from moving a load of compost and spending it with everyone seeing what Laura is up to. Have a great day, and I hope you all have time to play in the dirt.
Just watched Laura & Claus live chat. Fabulous fabulous fabulous! My two favorite gardening people. How lucky was I to listen watch & learn from them both. Thankyou for the intro to Claus Dalby, Laura. And I dont watch television anymore either!
I saw that gorgeous arrangement in the background of a video and wondered if we’d get to see you make it. Yay we did! Didn’t a viewer send you the container?🌸🥰
Me too!
Evening Everyone 🥰
Everything is looking stunning Laura 🥰 you are such an inspiration and inspire us to enjoy our gardens 🪴🌺🪴
Pretty amazing ! Everything covered that I’m planting this year the sunflowers and zinnias 😃👏🏽 now I just need you to cover echinacea and I’ll be all set! Thanks for sharing 😊🙏🏽
Your children are going to have such wonderful memories, of you making these beautiful arrangements for the home, working in the garden with you and Aaron. Good job.
"I don't have enough room." Oh my goodness. What a lucky day.
God bless you for bringing smiles in everyone’s life.
Nice Tutorial on the Anemone, I keep getting them as gifts, and didn't have the Slightest idea what to do with them
Isn't it amazing that something so beautiful comes from that wrinkly little corm? I've watched twice, just to see the blooms!
Never heard of this flower before. Thanks for introducing it Laura!
By the way, good evening from Philippines 🇵🇭 💚
I have been watching most of your you tube videos and I find them very helpful! I set up our irrigation after watching your irrigation video for the first time. I didn’t regret it. I saved a lot of time watering and guilt when I forget. I enjoy and love watching all your videos. More power to all of us Gardeners! ❤️👏🙏 Avid fan gardener all the way from NEW ZEALAND!
Love, love, love watching your vision unfold. It is inspiring. *Plots how to talk hubs into using more of our yard as a flower garden🤣*
Wow, they are stunning! In the bed, in the bucket and in arrangement! Just too pretty!
I can’t show this video to my ranunculus, they’ll have self esteem issues 😂
😂😂😂 seriously
HA HA Nicole! Your gardens are beautiful!! 😘
🤣hilarious! love your video’s Nicole!
You are so funny!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Seriously, your RANUNCULUS are just fine. 😉🌾🌺
Love your channel
If one day, you plant the whole Giving Garden in some kind of test crops and they all fail (never wishing this on you!) and there is nothing to give away, I’m sure it will still have given you a great deal; that’s so important and a blessing. Your sharing what you learn along the way and your love for what you do is a gift to all of us. I’m excited to see the Giving Garden thrive this season! Love you!
Giving Garden???
Laura was debating in a video not long ago (think it was a recap video) about calling the cut flower garden the Giving Garden. I think it’s a lovely idea and hope she follows her heart.
@@McClintockNYC She was talking about changing the name ....but....she didn't. In this video she called it the Cut Flower Garden . So as long a she calls it The Cut Flower Garden ....it's The Cut Flower Garden.
@@MarianneRuffhaven Yes, of course. I just meant to be encouraging, since it sounded so dear to her heart.
Oh my word! Those arrangements are stunning!
As soon as you all open this beautiful arboretum to the public or visitors my wife and I will visit. We would love a tour!
I planted sunflowers and 600 zinnias last week. I'm already seeing seedlings 🌱🌱
You are a hard worker for sure, Laura! I know your mother is so proud of you!
✋✋ I HAVE AN IDEA!! Each week at the end of a recap video pick a plant of the week and tell us things about it!! Or it could be on the main channel.✋✋
Yes, great idea!!
Wow you are tireless! love seeing the growth and blossoms what an inspiration.
I’m starting Ranunculus next year I loved your beautiful colors!
Jaw dropped when I saw the anenome arrangement. Wow!! 😲
“Run out to the garden and make an arrangement!” Looks out at my empty 5 acres wondering how long it’ll take to get what Laura has!
Lol 😂 iam on the same boat
My sister has 3 and she don't do anything with her's either. I tell her I'll trade my backyard for hers. I only have 3/4 of an acre
3 years. I’m hoping 3 maybe 4🤣
I Absolutely Loved the amount of sunflowers you planted last year. It was the most amazing thing. For those of you who love to watch every morning with your coffee or tea. I started watching old olds again. I love to watch every day so that is how I get my fix.
She got blooms on her ranuncs in two months... meanwhile I'm sitting here on 4 months with these plants and just finally getting buds😭😭😭😭
The bees friend flower would look absolutely beautiful with the anemones!!!
Morning! Anyone else want to guess that Zinderella Peach will be Laura's favorite zinnia?
I thought the same thing! By sheer coincidence I planted this variety and can't wait to see how it performs.
@@TheNorthernJourney I did it this way last summer/fall with my cut flowers and I made sure to also add new preservatives. Had good results.
Those raised beds are such a star this year with wall to wall colorfull blossoms. The pink and rose colors of the ranunculus are incredible! Good choice
Yay! Love Ranuculus, sadly I planted and they sprouted and died. We are going through a very dry season here in Florida:
Same in Minnesota. Hot and dry. And now, humid. Ugh!
@@Edu_Kate isn’t that the truth???
We get frost and freeze warnings in May. Then June hit!!!
The weatherman said yesterday we are almost 3 inches below average. Very different from last year.
Whew! Nearly 100 degrees and not only are you planting but in black🥵 and with hair down!
What a garden warrior you are!!
Definitely get your money back.
So gorgeous! If you only had space for three cut flowers, what would you choose? I don’t have much space but would love to make arrangements like you, one day! 💛💛💛
The small metal arches in the flowers beds, where are they from? Looking for something similar.
Hi 😀 I live in Ireland but love watching Laura . She is a garden addict just like many of us!!! Different climate here to contend with but the joys of planting and eagerly watching for new growth is so satisfying and addictive 😂
What the heck? I pre sprouted/planted my ranunculus at the same time and mine are barely growing!
I needed this video today! It’s pouring rain with thunder. I have some things to do in my garden which will have to wait. Thank you!
Hi Laura, Thank you so much for using Ranunculus in an arrangement. I was hoping you would! Both arrangements are beautiful!! You are so talented. I haven’t grown ranunculus, but would like to, and I grew anemones a couple years ago and would like to again. It’s wonderful to see how much joy you get from looking at all the beautiful flowers you’ve had a hand in growing. You work so hard. I think we all appreciate being able to watch and learn from you and Aaron. Thanks for giving us so much great information and entertainment!
I noticed the beautiful black, white, and yellow arrangement in the background of your Q&A video on your other channel and thought how gorgeous it looked! I'm so happy to see you actually put it together! You are so very talented and I just wanted to thank you for the inspiration, as well as the wealth of information you include in each video! I've learned SO much and have found something that I am passionate about while watching you just being yourself, so thank you thank you thank you! ❤
I have such a difficult time cutting the flowers in my garden to bring inside because I love looking through the windows at the splendor outside. I do, however, cut my peonies to enjoy. It’s either that or watch the petals slowly drop. Your gardens are so magical. I’m excited to see things progress when your Hartley arrives.
The flowers in your vegetable patch are stunning! I agree I would also find it difficult to cut the beautiful flowers! That climbing rose is soooooo pretty!
Your video’s are so educational and you are a joy to watch. So unpretentious and grounded.
I am another one that has an impossible time cutting my outdoor flowers and none of my friends understand it. I just can't BEAR to cut them! My peony's flopped over so I had no problem "saving" the blooms by bringing them indoors. I love you guys! XOXO Heidi
