The TV show really did justice to this underrated band of lovable weirdos but let’s be honest the reason we watched it was cause Brendan Fraiser was Robotman !!!
The original lineup of Doom Patrol matches up pretty close to the original Fantastic Four. Robot Man/The Thing, monster with great strength. Elasti Girl/Mr Fantastic, stretching ability and Negative Man/Human Torch, becoming a flying fiery being. No invisible being, but The Chief was a mostly unseen member of the group.
I love the DC live action of Doom Patrol. The live action series is what made me want to read Doom Patrol comics. Brendan Fraser Robot Man & Diane Guerro's Crazy Jane are my personal favorites.
Samuel Chesney Thank you for pointing that out, it's exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking "Hey Crazy Jane sounds a lot like Legion, how can anyone compare this to the X-Men? lol"
I actually like the Doom Patrol, with Mento, as a member of the team. On the basis that I first saw that specific Doom Patrol incarnation with Mento, in the Teen Tiants series of 2003.
I kinda do as well but I have learned that Mento is kind of an asshole in the comics. Like, he was just a little stubborn in the show but in the comics he sounds downright abusive.
I remember reading the original Doom Patrol when they introduced Mento and Beast boy. The background story for beast boy was a good bit different from the current . I enjoyed the original series back then but want to see how the current tv show compares.
Same here. I am pretty sure that was in reference to the team dying to save Codsville in the original run because that is about the only time I can think of where Chief, Negative Man, Elastigirl and Robotman "died" in the comics so that seems like the mission they were going to die on.
Doom Patrol live series is the best thing DC has done in a while. Since they are canceling Titans, I wonder will Beast Boy be making a return to Doom Patrol? Having Gar back would be golden...
I have an issue from the '60's where they faced off with the AVM man. It was hysterical! At one point The Chief tells NegMan to bring a bucket of water. "Water!" Robot Man said. "Chief, if we get out of this, I'll buy you a beer!" Classic.:)
They chose a good time to release this show; since all the X-Men films are in development hell and it gives Doom Patrol a chance to breathe and distinguish themselves. Always found them more realistic than X-Men, as in why they're all living together, they're all too odd-looking to be living among normal people, because they risk their own safety and occasionally everyone else's. Whereas X-Men just have obsessive racists, and it always confused me; how come Mutants are hated but Spider-Man's fine? Etc. Heck, if I was in the Marvel universe; I think I'd have more of an issue with the fact that you have this guy taking multiple confused, angsty teenage mutants to live in the same house with each other, pretending it's a school when it's really more of a front for a private military group consisting of mutants. Like Professor X is scouting for child soldiers to fly his blackbird or something. Meanwhile Doom Patrol have a perfectly valid reason for crashing out in a mansion. It's just as sketchy how the Chief makes them fight (although that's not really the case in the show thus far, he's more or less scolding them for being so eager to fight and expose themselves to the world), but the group itself has more mature members and you can understand they don't really have a choice, compared to most mutants who need a slight deal of training for their powers but can otherwise pass as ordinary humans. And damn, forgot Incredibles ripped off the name Elastigirl too, as well as the general premise of the Fantastic Four.
"..how come Mutants are hated but Spider-Man's fine? How come they love Thor but not Storm? Fantastic Four acceptable but X-men no?" It's because of the premise that mutants are essentially going to wipe out non-mutated humans by virtue of evolution. Super-powered humans are still humans (yeah, that's pretty thin ice but there ya go..) And Marvel kind of addressed the whole issue of super-powered humans being a threat with the Civil War story line. Regarding the Xavier school being a school in case you're not big on the X-Men, Charles' school is a real school with a curriculum and everything, just with p.e. that's focused on how to control mutant powers, and an ethics class teaching kids that humans can be racist dicks, but shouldn't be eliminated because that would make them Nazis. But yeah, The X-Men ripped off the Doom Patrol. p.s. I'm more of an X-Men fan than anything else. I had never heard of the Doom Patrol till a few years ago, and while it made me "conflicted" for a spell, the fact that DC have been ripping-off each other for decades reconciled everything for me. ;)
@@heidiheidiho6412 who said I wasn't big on the X-Men? I love the X-Men, grew up with the animated series, first game I owned was X-Men Legends and it still holds up today, and I like how they have a matching uniform while Doom Patrol has a lot of clashing colours in their individual costumes which is kind of an eyesore. I was just always confused by how they copped so much flak in-universe while every other super-powered character was more or less accepted by the public. Though I was forgetting about them replacing homo sapiens, kind of like they're dying off, so my bad. I guess it makes sense that the majority of heroes in the Marvel universe are human, even mutates like Deadpool, Hulk, Fantastic Four, technically Daredevil and Spider-Man. And my bad again, forgot about Civil War, ages since I read it. Not as if they're all universally loved either but I can understand more with cases like Hulk because he looks threatening in addition to being a threat, or Deadpool because he's unhinged and looks threatening without the mask (especially Ultimate Deadpool), or Spider-Man because he wears a face-concealing mask and that's at least the reason Jameson hates him so much. Although I hadn't heard of Doom Patrol until recently (probably about 5 years ago) but I instantly thought it made more sense for them to require a safe place to live than the majority of X-Men who pass for human. I mean Nightcrawler needs a place like the X-Mansion (except for in X-Men Evolution where he has that disguise thing), Cyclops needs it, moreso because he can't control his power, but the majority of X-Men only need some tutelage in how to ccontrol their power and they should be able to live amongst average people, nobody should be able to tell they're a mutant just from looking at them. Unlike the Doom Patrol who simultaneously have potentially destructive powers and look a certain way that prevents them from living with normal people. Not forgetting back in the 60s that the only employment opportunity for odd-looking people was to join a freak show and face humiliation while making very little profit. Can't imagine a lot of X-Men in that position, mainly only Beast or Nightcrawler, Angel can hide his wings to an extent. Heck, Blob was in a freak show in the original comic but only because he repeatedly demonstrated the freakish ability to make bullets bounce off of him, people didn't really even care that he was fat or had a face like a smashed pie. And yes, it's a school with real curriculum and important lessons towards mutant-human relations and it gives mutants a safe place to live, no denying that, but you know a school with an underground tunnel system and military-grade technology probably wouldn't go down that well, it's suspicious, and I could understand that as the reason why people in the Marvel universe hate the X-Men, because they say they're all about peaceful interractions and harmony between mutants and humans and teaching mutants to control their powers and giving them a sanctuary; but they have a war room. I mean, The Brotherhood are terrorists; but at least they're honest about it, they don't pretend to be a restaurant.
@Rex Truth That's make even less sense, how can a human differentiate between a super powered human and mutant. If anything that's more reason for humans to have the same visceral detest they have for mutants, for super humans as well. Not only are they being replaced by mutants from an evolutionary point of view but numbers further are dwindling down by humans acquiring mutant like abilities. They can't accurately tell the difference. If you know anything about human nature we are judgemental and hateful. Alot people especially today only see race not a person ethincity or even nationality. The Civil War storyline mutants were never invloved, super powered being threat was forgotten never truly had any real consequences. In a nutshell its stupid, but due Marvel universe being around for so long people have just accepted it for what it is. Thats why even biggest X-men fans have eluded that the storylines has always felt separate from the rest of the Marvel universe for that reason those stories were good and highly regarded.
@Rex Truth That was nothing to with same discrimination that mutants have faced. Civil War was about the damage super powered people can do, they still had choice to live relatively safe and peaceful life by joining Iron Man side. Once the storyline was over everything returned to the stasus quo. Keep in mind mutants never had the same consideration and mercy super powered had during Civil War. Plus its never been consistent or believable.
I've been sleeping on this Gem for 3 years and in less than a couple of days I am almost caught up to season 3. I cannot get enough of Doom Patrol and the entire cast, directing, cinematography, and costume designs. This has become one of my all time favorite shows of all time. DC has been putting out some fantastic work these last few years. The pieces are all finally coming together and I am loving every minute of it.
The TV series streamed by DCs service is amazing, and I recommend checking it out. Character driven, great acting, and actual character growth. It’s great.
There was an old sci-fi radio show called X-1. In one episode there was a nuclear war that caused the atmosphere to ignite, turning the Earth into a lifeless rock. Imagine my shock when I found out that at the time the episode was aired, this was a viable theory among scientists until they gained a better understanding of nuclear reactions.
In the comics and the show Niles Caulder makes the cloth, it's custom made and can "prevent radiation from getting out" In other words, Negative Man is wearing cloth that can prevent his radiation from getting through.
The Teen Titans animation did have the participation of the Doom Patrol in beginning of the second season, the Brotherhood of Evil was also introduced as the villains of that arc.
We just got a show on them I wouldn't bet on it yet although I will say this it better be better than Titans cuz that TV series sucked hopefully it second season is better hopefully
I watched the Pilot episode and honestly Doom Patrol alone is worth the DC universe subscription but it could also be the DC speaking in me. Nevertheless the show is definitely not half bad, and imo is better filmed, written and has better music than Titans. I feel like I got my moneys worth with this one.
Doom Patrol is one of my FAVORITE teams in ALL OF COMICS Also I think Cyborg being part of the team is good, his character plays perfect with the Doom Patrols motive
I didnt know anything about Doom Patrol before today, when i watched the DCU series premier and now this... Holy shit, they did a great job of punching up their origin stories. The changes they made look to have really deepened and sharpened the tragic nature of these characters over the original stories.
Fun Comic Fact: The Robotman we see now... ISN'T the first Robotman. The First Robotman appeared during the time of the Justice Society of America in "All-Star Squadron" comics in the 1940's. His name was Robert Crane.
Grant Morrison’s doom patrol is amazing. The fact none of them really wanna be heroes is what i love. Also red jack is one of the best villain designs i have ever seen.
I would love to see an Umbrella Academy video. I know they have a few changes from the comics to ground it more in modern reality but it would still be good to see a history of.
Both are, well, cyborgs, but Cyborg's powers are vastly different from Robotman's. Robotman is mostly centered on strength and whatnot, but Cyborg can interface with virtually any technology, create sonic cannons, etc.
the last emperor what exactly are you implying though ? Black people shouldn’t be in films ? I understand questioning Cyborgs placement but what I got from your statement was “Yeah, he’s in the film/show but Black people are always put in just to please the audience”
@@camron147 i would think he means that if (insert any series) doesn't have black people there will be those who then say that the show is rasist. (i know it's stubit thing but it happens all the time)
If you include Chief and Charles then it gets trickier since I imagine with prep time, Chief could whip something up to deal with Charles' telepathy but without it, he and the rest of them would be rather screwed but if you exclude the leaders then I'd say Doom Patrol because while the OG X-Men do out number them, I imagine that Robot Man has enough durability and strength to deal with Beast and Cyclops, Elasti-Girl could grow to the size of a building and stomp on them and Negative Man could just release his Negative Spirit which in the first series was routinely stated to go faster than light. Of course, this is assuming its the OG groups with their original power levels, if its just the original members with their current powers then OG X-Men because they have the Phoenix who would wipe them out in a second. That's my assumption on this matchup.
I really enjoyed Grant morrison's run. It felt like it should be the definitive version because it felt so Iconic in it's levels of weirdness but I'm sure some would disagree. I also preferred the angle of each character embracing their humanity to overcome the human experiences that they lack due to their differences.
I love the quirky quality of the Doom Patrol, have many of the original issues, and cherish them, I've never read one except for the last one where they all die.
I kind of forgot that I had watched this history of episode but the main reason I am rewatching it is for the reading recommendations because not only am I wanting to know more I am also rewatching the first season again to be ready for the next season that is premieres on the 25th of this month.
Tbh if it had it own animated series in 2000s era like Teen Titans did the show would've been hit and get more attention in the media it would've had it first video game console but DC never gave it a chance smh
I must say, Doom Patrol premier is amazing and great, better than Titans. I am intrigue by the show now. But how it will connect to Titans? Etrigan is free in the finale. Did he is defeated?
Honestly don't expect much interaction (plots wise) between the multiple titles of the DCU stream service like they do on the CW shows, the latter is able to do it because most shooting schedules match since they shot it in the same place (when they don't match, they don't participate like Legend's of Tomorrow not being on the last Crossover), but specially because since the Cinematic Universe kind of imploded, they'll probably approach this one with a more "comics continuity" kind of thing (like they are doing with Aquaman, Shazam and WW84 on the movies universe), where main plots of one doesn't really take effect on the other titles (actually CW already do that, and only as a probable after thought mix the crazy plots, like Flashpoint changing Diggle's child gender) except when it is a main crossover thing, BUT episode 2 of Doom Patrol do have a quick easter egg of Superboy and Kripto on it, well "Superboy and Krypto", the easter egg actually says "Naked man with dog" but considering Titans last scene, potato potato.
This question is on a minor point, but why did you describe Elasti-girl as a cross between 'Ant-Man' and 'Mister Fantastic' and not 'The Atom' and 'Plastic Man', being that The Doom Patrol are DC characters?
the illustrator *Todd McFarlane* worked on Doom Patrol in the 80's before becoming extremely famous on *SpiderMan* , changing comicbook industry forever later on.
You forgot to mention that negative man can only unleash his soul self for a single minute, and that if it doesn’t return to his body before that minute is up, he will die. Also, negative woman showed up in the last doomsday clock issue as part of a Russian super team, and her soul self was powerful enough to stagger Super Man for a few moments after it passed through him
Since they are cutting ties with Disney (or Disney actually cutting ties with them) and they already have the rights for international distribution of Titans, I believe the show will be there in 3 months or so everywhere but in the United States.

Facts?🖕
Christopher Nava it’s not a fact since their stories and origins are way too different to be ripped of from Fantastic4.
@@Qthetar well the character s wre a huge ripoff.
Christopher Nava Fantastic Four was inspired by the Justice Society of America.
I didnt know anything about Doom Patrol before today, when i watched the DCU series premier and now this... Holy shit, they did a great job of punching up their origin stories. The changes they made look to have really deepened and sharpened the tragic nature of these characters over the original stories.
Happy you are back! But Tim was cool lol!
Very underrated they’re probably my favorite super hero team
Flex Mentalo! Hero of the beach! 💪🏾
Glad to see you back and feeling better. Thanks for the info.
I would love to see an Umbrella Academy video. I know they have a few changes from the comics to ground it more in modern reality but it would still be good to see a history of.
Really? Just skipping over the young animal run. At least it was included in the reading recommendations
It's the Original X-Men!
I loved the show, and I’m loving season 2 so far
History of Alita from Battle Angel Alita.
Did you saw the movie cause it was really good!
@@dominiquepowell3158 not yet but I want to. I don't have the money to see it.
Go read the manga.
Is great.
@@mainro1371 I have I just want some more people to know about Alita.
It manga not comics. 😡
doom patrol tv series weirdest but fun, and i like it
its kind of useless haveing Cyborg on the team if you already have Robotman
Both are, well, cyborgs, but Cyborg's powers are vastly different from Robotman's. Robotman is mostly centered on strength and whatnot, but Cyborg can interface with virtually any technology, create sonic cannons, etc.
Gotta toss a black man in all movies these days or you labeled racist or dont you know?
the last emperor what exactly are you implying though ? Black people shouldn’t be in films ? I understand questioning Cyborgs placement but what I got from your statement was “Yeah, he’s in the film/show but Black people are always put in just to please the audience”
@@camron147 i would think he means that if (insert any series) doesn't have black people there will be those who then say that the show is rasist. (i know it's stubit thing but it happens all the time)
camron147 the last emperor does have a legit point. why else put replace BeastBoy w/used farm equipment?
Man, I just love the energy of this channel.
I've always wanted a Doom Patrol\ X-Men, or a Doom Patrol\ Fantastic Four team-up. It could be set in the early years of both teams.
To be honest, the first time I've heard of the doom patrol was in the new 52. Looking forward to the show!
OG X-men vs OG Doom Patrol
X-men win
XMEN wins with omega levels mutants.
@@MysteriousTomJenkins you actually have a detailed and reasonable explanation, props to you
@@MysteriousTomJenkins with wolverine in his prime
It brings warmth to my heart to hear that they are bringing back the doom patrol and the wonder twins
I really enjoyed Grant morrison's run. It felt like it should be the definitive version because it felt so Iconic in it's levels of weirdness but I'm sure some would disagree.
I also preferred the angle of each character embracing their humanity to overcome the human experiences that they lack due to their differences.
Shawn Martel Grant Morrison's run IS the definitive version as far as I'm concerned.
crazy how i got this after doom patrol is cancelled, rip doom patrol. i actually quite liked it
Hmmm Elastagirl Eh... Where have I heard that name before?
incredible
I love the quirky quality of the Doom Patrol, have many of the original issues, and cherish them, I've never read one except for the last one where they all die.
After watching the Doom Patrol pilot I would love to see a Krazy Jane spin-off show.
I like the old school doom patrol the best. I see Crazy Jane has simlar to Legion. Glad your feeling better Arris.
The 60’s 😂😂 a wacky time
Love the series so far. Really intriguing
Doom patrol is better than X-Men
X-Men are away more popular than doom patrol.
The characters have always been interesting. Show turned out nicely.
yes love the channel
I kind of forgot that I had watched this history of episode but the main reason I am rewatching it is for the reading recommendations because not only am I wanting to know more I am also rewatching the first season again to be ready for the next season that is premieres on the 25th of this month.
My unpopular opinion: Doom Patrol is better than X-Men
Tbh if it had it own animated series in 2000s era like Teen Titans did the show would've been hit and get more attention in the media it would've had it first video game console but DC never gave it a chance smh
I loved the first episode. Can’t wait to see where the series goes.
I grew up on x men but after watching doom patrol there neck and neck as my favorite foreal i love the show
Glad to have you back
I must say, Doom Patrol premier is amazing and great, better than Titans. I am intrigue by the show now. But how it will connect to Titans? Etrigan is free in the finale. Did he is defeated?
i think you mean Trigon not Etrigan !!
Just finished the series and im devastated.
Why is the show like this.
Crazy Jane sounds a lot like Legion...
The Doom Patrol show was art. And I rarely say that about films or shows, let alone a superhero story. One of my favorite shows in the past decade.
Where’s our umbrella academy history?
Doom Patrol > Umbrella Academy. (+)
@@elplebeuchiha1996 dont compare, both are worked on by the same guy, Gerard Way. He also said DP is his inspiration for Umbrella Academy.
Sharil Shahed I just wanted him to do that because of the Netflix show coming out
@@elplebeuchiha1996 I wonder, why compare? To tell dc is better than the others?
El Plebe Uchiha I disagree
Welcome back Aris! Glad all is well!

TIM WILL RETURN
Watched all of S1-S2 this week. Really great.
I would rather have memento instead of cyborg
I always thought the doom patrol looked so cool. They always reminded me of the Fantastic four based on the look of the team alone.
Doom Patrol always kind of reminded me of FF4 too.
Thank you for agree with me.
Robotman and Thing very similar in Design.
@@Hilversumborn And story... Both have unwanted power and miss their old lives.
Christopher Nava get your facts 🖕🖕🖕🖕
You forgot to mention that negative man can only unleash his soul self for a single minute, and that if it doesn’t return to his body before that minute is up, he will die. Also, negative woman showed up in the last doomsday clock issue as part of a Russian super team, and her soul self was powerful enough to stagger Super Man for a few moments after it passed through him
can you do a video on crazy jane i want to know all her powers
Thank God you’re back buddy!!!
Who's excited for Stargirl?
Negative man has always been my favorite of the doom patrol
So legacy is a rip-off of crazy jane
legion
Or is it the other way around? I forgot which came first. Ah doesn't matter, crazy Jane is one of my favorite characters ever.
Dami Morrison said jane based up on novel.
The guy behind the cam is so great !! XD
I really hope Netflix gets the doom patrol on there website.😣
Since they are cutting ties with Disney (or Disney actually cutting ties with them) and they already have the rights for international distribution of Titans, I believe the show will be there in 3 months or so everywhere but in the United States.
@@SilasMendes3 makes sense
