Venus Van Dam in sons of anarchy and the apartment neighbor in Thomas Jane's punisher. Brendan, I thought fell off after all those mummy movies and quit Hollywood. But really he wrecked his body doing stunts and has had a ton of surgery and therapy I'd love to see some behind the scenes on this. He wasn't suited to and mostly just did voice work. Do they use the robot actor to emote to Brandon's lines or vice versa
To be fair, a lot of things in this show is based off of the doom patrol comics that Gerard Way wrote, who also wrote the umbrella academy comics, and then he went on to make the umbrella academy show.
One of the funniest things about this show to me is that most of the major plot resolutions don't even get solved by the Doom Patrol. Things typically just work themselves out. And when they *are* saving the world, it's from themselves.
Comic accurate, the problems are so absurd that they just vanish themselves from existence, The Doom Patrol usually just contains them and pushes them in the right direction.

More specifically, this show knows how to balance its tones, something Marvel isn’t particularly good at nowadays. The closest it has to this show is Guardians Of The Galaxy, which stands out not just because of its silly elements, but also its darker ones like Rocket’s whole backstory or heartfelt ones like Rocket and Yondu bonding over their shared traumas.

Its always so interesting watching show that you're going to be like: "Yep this is going to be an underrated gem and a cult classic" Its both good and bad but you know what? As long as the end result is good, I'm still happy.

Of all the comic-book adaptations I've seen, perhaps the closest spiritually (and often textually) to its source material. I remember thinking more than once--are they going to (insert deeply unlikely Grant Morrison plot point/character here) and then being surprised and delighted when they pretty much did and pulled it off.
True. I honestly think they're the best and most well done "superpowered family" besides The Guardians of The Galaxy. And Umbrella Academy, but that one is a little different.

Well, they have been on TV long before Marvel, and they already had great films even in the 70s, so it's natural that they already dominate this field, the problem is that they didn't invest that much, and the MCU changed the level of things

I mean, it takes away the weight of the series finale, just to have a "silly fanservice like MCU", so I hope the team has an adaptation in the films , with new actors, even if it's a cameo, I don't think James Gunn would leave them out, he loves lesser-known characters
What always gets me crying is when a character accepts that they are going to die. And that scene with Cliff made me bawl the first time I saw it. Even when you just played that little clip my eyes stared to get misty.
Only seen the clip of that. That character Flex is hilarious and pretty overpowered. And that woman riding a bike during that scene had me in stitches. People don't want to enjoy anything anymore.
I always like the Doom Patrol comics, especially the originals, and yes, Cliff was the heart and soul. But it just never took off for some reason despite several attempts. TBH, I wasn't even aware that this live-action version existed, but if I stumble over it someday, I'll definitely give it a look. Thanks!

Kind of low budget, but... ... Well written, with likable characters and following its source material with evident respect and appreciation. I loved it.
I like the lower budget shows, because they have to draw you in with things other than "we spent 30 million dollars on this one episode, like this show".
The idea of this team at its core is so good: a group of misfit weirdos brought together to be the vanguard against any apocalypse that threatens the DC universe… but all of them are such dysfunctional wrecks they can’t work together for even a minute to do so. Asking the age old comics question “why didn’t x help with this event?” with Doom Patrol can reasonably be answered with “because they were dealing with their own shit!”
my introduction to this show was from my dad watching it and I'm got hooked on it pretty much immediately, the show was weird but the characters were genuinely so endearing and just kept me wanting more and that ending left me bawling dude, even now 8 months later it still hits so hard, cliff watching his daughter and grandson be in good hands is such a good way to end it but the final line from cliff was what really hit me, the fact that his goal from the start of the first episode was made symbolic by the end was such a heartbreaking but beautiful end to a genuinely super underrated show
@@LaughingLuLu while there is a Doom Patrol in the Titans universe, they are two different Doom Patrol. It's very confusing. Doom Patrol is actually made by Berlanti Productions, which made Arrow and The Flash as well as a bunch of other shows. In the arrowverse Crisis, it is actually shown they are on different universes. This isn't actually the only time a backdoor pilot and show are two different universes. Dead boy Detectives did this as well.
I just finished the show yesterday and man...this was for the first time I ever cried cuz of a show especially cuz of Rita. She wasn't my favorite but fuck, her reuniting with Malcolm got me. Same with Cliff saying he made it home then dying and Larry getting with Rama as well was beautiful.
Not trying to throw shade, I mean this as a genuine critique: this vide is framed as a pitch, trying to promote the show to an audience who has not seen it yet, and your pitch is genuinely quite good! I haven’t seen it and now I want to! That said, you drop a major spoiler 5 minutes into an 18 minute video. I genuinely want to see what you have to say, but I’m stopping here because you haven’t flagged spoilers and I want to see it for myself. I would recommend discussing thematics and writing FIRST, and then jumping into plot details at the end, after letting your audience know you’re entering spoiler territory. Again, no shade intended. What I’ve seen so far is great. Keep at it!
Thanks for the criticism! While I was making this video, it was intended for people that had already seen. Almost close to finishing it, I wanted to also appeal to people that hadn't seen it at the same time. Obviously, I didn't do a great job at it, so it's something I'm learning from my mistake and fixing in all of my future videos. I'm gonna make sure to separate non spoiler and spoiler stuff and give proper warnings in the videos.
I love that I got this video recommended. I watched DC Titans in 2018/2019 I think, which had a doom patrol cameo (I think it wasn't canon to the actual Doom Patrol show though sadly), which was the first time I actually heard about the show and was also the reason I started watching it. I immediately fell in love with the show and it's one of the best DC shows they ever produced. I stopped watching mid season 3 however, because it wasn't the same feeling as season 1 anymore (also probably due to the fact that my prime subscription ended and I kind of forgot about the show). The show, as I remember, was so great and well written and it never got the publicity and attention it deserved in my opinion. It's a masterpiece and I'm probably going to rewatch it from season 1 just because of you. I didn't know they released the last season, which is kind of sad because the show had much greater potential, but I haven't watched it to the end yet and tbh 4 seasons is probably enough. Wow, thanks for leaving this comment! Honestly, I feel the same way about this show having barely any publicity and attention, especially after it ended. Which is obviously why I felt the need to make a video on it. Out of all the videos I've made, I'm glad this one got the most views, because it shows me how amazing and dedicated the Doom Patrol fan base really was and still is. And to your point of dropping the show and picking it up again, I definitely had some moments of that because I felt like season 4 was the weakest. But seeing the ending is completely worth it.
Doom patrol is one of my favorite shows out there. I have a dissociative disorder similar to jane's, and jane remains to be, in my opinion, one of the least problematic depictions of the disorder. the show is equal parts weird, sad, uplifting, tragic, and just general trauma. So many shows dont properly cover trauma, let alone dynamic and unique body horror trauma that can still somehow be relatable to people who obviously havent experienced it. idk just as a traumatized person it was an almost comforting depiction of trauma and watching everyones unique journey/path for recovery was very heartwarming
Do you know what I realized. This show is basically just the plot of the umbrella academy but better! Superheroes needing therapy after having a terrible past with powers and a horrible mentor who turned out to be the cause of their powers. Then after their mentor dies a time traveling character goes back in time to get the superhero team's help. Then they receive a vision that they cause the end of the world and they have to stop it! These plots are so similar i feel like someone had to have plagerized somewhere, right?
A lot of the comics for both of the shows were made by some of the same people, so they had a lot of similarities. On top of that, the shows were coincidentally made at the same time.
@@LaughingLuLu ok, you replied really fast, wow! Still, it's not unheard of with scripts being copied while shows and movies are being produced. It's why often many similar movies and shows release in the same year. E.g. Captain America: Civil War and Batman V Superman being released in the same year and I know of other examplesI can't remember right now. Happens all the time, rarely gets caught.

Having read Grant Morrison's run of Doom Patrol, I am both surprised that they made a Doom Patrol series and pleased that they understood the feel of it so well.

I have to agree that season 4 was a bit rocky and I wish they would have given a conclusion to both Dorothy and Kipling but the finale overall was both tragic and beautiful to watch. Plus you have to admit that season is a whole lot better compared to some of the MCU shows especially ones like Secret Invasion and Wandavision there was even a article online called “Inverse” that discussed about how season 2 of Doom Patrol avoided Wandavision’s finale flaw basically it was trying to avoid the mistakes Wandavision had made in its finale compared to that of Doom Patrols. But Kang is just played by a single actor, I’m not trying to be rude but I’m just saying that in the cartoon Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes we saw three different variants of Kang, one was an old man, the other a woman, and a child. I wish that they would have done that. Please don’t think I’m being rude or anything like that and I did like Moon Knight but if I had to be honest I think Doom Patrol handled it better with Crazy Jane they made DID (dissociative identity disorder) more normal and tried to make a little more lighthearted compared to Moon Knight’s. And Doom Patrol doesn’t really seem to do Identity politics compared to marvel like the part with “are you a Egyptian hero?” it just didn’t sound right, again please don’t think I’m being rude or anything. Where in Doom Patrol they just let us the audience relate to any character even if some are people of color like Madame Rouge, Cyborg, and Crazy Jane even their white counterparts like Cliff, Rita, and Larry who is a gay man but you can relate to them on either a personal level or by the choices we make too or even how we act.

The first two seasons were good. After that..eh. The problem I have with this show is that I don't mind if bizarre stuff happens along the way of the story..but the last two seasons just felt like, "we don't really have a story..so lets just make a bunch of bizarre stuff happen".
Fuck yes, what an off the cuff show. Great review, loved it. I think one other thing I would add here is how they allowed Brendan to do so live action scenes that are completely making sense in the story. Could not wait to see him on screen again
One of the only examples of an adaptation where I feel like they never need to try again. They captured the soul of the best Doom Patrol comics have had to offer.
This show can be broken down to : 1/3 mind breaking trauma, 1/3 superhero insanity, and 1/3 the characters watching what’s happening around them saying “what the &$@%!”
I always wanted to see the show, as I was a fan of the comics back in the late 80s/early 90s. But being buried on HBO Max's streaming service meant I never got to see it. I am glad to see they stuck very close to the source material (Ignoring Cyborg, he was never part of the team in the comics), and every clip I've seen has Fraser absolutely killing it as Robot Man. Also nice to see they didn't skimp on their weird villains (tho Monsieur Mallah and The Brain as a retired couple I did NOT see coming!). A few things were repurposed for the purposes of TV, but I really wish I could've caught it when airing. Here's hoping they release a DVD box set or something I can grab....
I just finished. the fourth season. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this season; it was a drag to get through for me. But I do love this show as a whole, and the Cliff send-off was amazingly done; it even made me cry. I also really loved Larry's clothing during Rita's funeral. I wish he had more wardrobe changes throughout the show. I plan on cosplaying that attire in the future.
This show means so much to me. It just feels so special. Objectively it might not be the best of DCs live action shows but it is absolutely my favourite. It has gotten me so emotionally invested and I started reading some of the comics after seeing this show. I even went to the last panel for the show at NYCC and it was amazing, the actors were so genuine. It sucks that the show ended earlier than they wanted it to but it’s great to see it getting the appreciation it deserves.

It's so crazy to think about. 20 years of media, from Teen Titans classic, all the way to Dark Knight, to Josstice League, to Arrowverse, to Doom Patrol. A whole lifetime. Explaining what happens in this show is interesting because even the show itself can't explain what's going on. It's just completely off the walls and that's why it's so good. Also, I'd forgotten about what Niles had said in season 1 (late spoilers) Which after watching season 4, is much more disturbing once we find out what happened with Jane. Which she confesses that to him, so they either forgot he said he was responsible or Niles is way more fucked up than he seems on the surface.
my biggest let down with the show, is while a bunch of stuff happens, it feels like not much ever gets resolved. After several seasons all of them are still ready to abandon eachother at a whim, and, they're mostly doing nothing in their huge mansion. I dont really know what i would want, but it feels like they never ever reach their full potential.

The first season of Doom Patrol is genuinely amazing and required viewing, after that the quality honestly declines with each subsequent season enough that I consider the rest of the series beyond S1 optional.
you were very rude... the series is obviously not perfect, nor is Breaking Bad "perfect", it has weak episodes. Doom Patrol has a great resolution, and has several good episodes in each season. I think the lack of budget and the Covid issue hindered the production a lot, but they did the best they could.

Although he is a really great and memorable side character, I didn't really talk about the side characters. I just wanted to focus on the main characters.
I love Doom Patrol. The show heavily borrowed from Grant Morrison's run of the comic. He pretty much defined watch Doom Patrol was after that. Morrison also wrote an incredible mini series on Flex Mentallo who's side character in Doom Patrol and he appeared in the show. The main singer of My Chemical Romance had a pretty decent run as the writer of Doom Patrol.
The Forgotten Superhero Movie You Need to see Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe my favorite character was Bloodshot portrayed by the long departed Jason David Frank one of his few non Power Rangers acting roles and he killed It
Season 1 was amazing. Just blew me away. I've watched that season like a dozen times over and showed it or highlights of it to so many friends to to turn them on to the show. I can't say the same for the rest of the show. I haven't even bothered to purchase Season 3 or 4 on Blu Ray and almost forgot about the show during after mid Season 4 break - a total 180 from the massive anticipation I had for it during the wait for Season 2! Anyway, Season 2 I generally liked but less than S1 - at least we got some cool villains like Red Jack and Dr. Tyme. Season 3 and 4 were huge steps down. Lost a lot when the Chief was written out. Felt less focused, more meandering. None of the other later villains were as well written as Mr. Nobody. I suspect a lot of the reasoning for these choices was due to production budget. But still I wanted to see the DP function as some kind of superhero team post Season 1 (like in the comics) however weird and dysfunctional they were. Also all the growth the characters had achieved by the end of Season 1 felt like it got ignored/abandoned later so they kept recycling the same issues over and over rather than moving on. There are some highlight episodes and moments I do like in 3 and 4 (Subconscious Patrol, Nostalgia Patrol and Portal Patrol were the standouts for me) but the consistency was gone. Also not a fan of the show's take on Immortus, and The Brain and Mallah needed to be the main villains of season 3.
Wow, I quite literally 100% agree. I personally felt like season 2 and 4 were really weak, with 1 obviously being the best, and 3 having some really great moments. The Brain, Mallah and Rouge are forever engraved in my brain, even if they weren't as well written as Mr Nobody.
I'm borderline incapable of crying, when I want to it feels almost like a sneeze that won't come out. That said, Doom Patrol was one of the very few things my dad and I enjoyed together, so watching the finale about a month after my dad passed away and how their strained relationship hit so close to home, that did it, that's what finally broke me after like a decade and what a fucking release it was.
Wow, that's beautiful. Even though they were "superheroes" they were probably the most relatable characters I've ever seen on television, and I've just felt no other connections like it for other characters in shows.
Yeah I can see an argument where you can say he was randomly thrown in there just to give the show a well known character. Even if that's kind of true, I think they did very well with his character, giving him really good character development and making him a fun part of the team.
Because of all popular characters the general audience actually cares about. Cyborg thematically fits the Doom Patrol. And honestly..... I'm kinda glad that he is in a better show than Titans. lol
I feel the same way about Titans. It was made by the same people and both just understand what it means to have good characters and story. Both also know what the comics are and respect them. Even if they aren’t the best they still are great shows that should not have been cancelled
Although I really didn't like Titans, I had a lot of respect for what they were doing. It sucks what happened to both shows, but hey, at least we got them at all.
As with all things Alan Tudyk Mr. Nobody was my favorite character and I was bummed when he got another gig with Disney. But I can’t think of a better ending for the character. I also really like Dorothy she was such a sweet girl and she dealt with some really harsh crap. Finally Mr. Flex who could make everyone orgasm by flexing.

More specifically, this show knows how to balance its tones, something Marvel isn’t particularly good at nowadays.
The closest it has to this show is Guardians Of The Galaxy, which stands out not just because of its silly elements, but also its darker ones like Rocket’s whole backstory or heartfelt ones like Rocket and Yondu bonding over their shared traumas.

Of all the comic-book adaptations I've seen, perhaps the closest spiritually (and often textually) to its source material. I remember thinking more than once--are they going to (insert deeply unlikely Grant Morrison plot point/character here) and then being surprised and delighted when they pretty much did and pulled it off.

What always gets me crying is when a character accepts that they are going to die. And that scene with Cliff made me bawl the first time I saw it. Even when you just played that little clip my eyes stared to get misty.

I always like the Doom Patrol comics, especially the originals, and yes, Cliff was the heart and soul. But it just never took off for some reason despite several attempts. The idea of this team at its core is so good: a group of misfit weirdos brought together to be the vanguard against any apocalypse that threatens the DC universe… but all of them are such dysfunctional wrecks they can’t work together for even a minute to do so. Asking the age old comics question “why didn’t x help with this event?” with Doom Patrol can reasonably be answered with “because they were dealing with their own shit!”

my introduction to this show was from my dad watching it and I'm got hooked on it pretty much immediately, the show was weird but the characters were genuinely so endearing and just kept me wanting more and that ending left me bawling dude, even now 8 months later it still hits so hard, cliff watching his daughter and grandson be in good hands is such a good way to end it but the final line from cliff was what really hit me, the fact that his goal from the start of the first episode was made symbolic by the end was such a heartbreaking but beautiful end to a genuinely super underrated show

Doom Patrol is actually made by Berlanti Productions, which made Arrow and The Flash as well as a bunch of other shows. In the arrowverse Crisis, it is actually shown they are on different universes.
This isn't actually the only time a backdoor pilot and show are two different universes. Dead boy Detectives did this as well.

I just finished the show yesterday and man...this was for the first time I ever cried cuz of a show especially cuz of Rita. She wasn't my favorite but fuck, her reuniting with Malcolm got me. Same with Cliff saying he made it home then dying and Larry getting with Rama as well was beautiful.

I haven’t seen it and now I want to! That said, you drop a major spoiler 5 minutes into an 18 minute video. I genuinely want to see what you have to say, but I’m stopping here because you haven’t flagged spoilers and I want to see it for myself. I would recommend discussing thematics and writing FIRST, and then jumping into plot details at the end, after letting your audience know you’re entering spoiler territory. Again, no shade intended. What I’ve seen so far is great. Keep at it!
Thanks for the criticism! While I was making this video, it was intended for people that had already seen. Almost close to finishing it, I wanted to also appeal to people that hadn't seen it at the same time. Obviously, I didn't do a great job at it, so it's something I'm learning from my mistake and fixing in all of my future videos. I'm gonna make sure to separate non spoiler and spoiler stuff and give proper warnings in the videos.
Plus the show's been done for a while so most people have already seen spoilers for it on Facebook TH-cam Twitter and all that in some capacity
I love that I got this video recommended. I watched DC Titans in 2018/2019 I think, which had a doom patrol cameo (I think it wasn't canon to the actual Doom Patrol show though sadly), which was the first time I actually heard about the show and was also the reason I started watching it. I immediately fell in love with the show and it's one of the best DC shows they ever produced. I stopped watching mid season 3 however, because it wasn't the same feeling as season 1 anymore (also probably due to the fact that my prime subscription ended and I kind of forgot about the show).
The show, as I remember, was so great and well written and it never got the publicity and attention it deserved in my opinion. It's a masterpiece and I'm probably going to rewatch it from season 1 just because of you. I didn't know they released the last season, which is kind of sad because the show had much greater potential, but I haven't watched it to the end yet and tbh 4 seasons is probably enough.

Wow, thanks for leaving this comment! Honestly, I feel the same way about this show having barely any publicity and attention, especially after it ended. Which is obviously why I felt the need to make a video on it. Out of all the videos I've made, I'm glad this one got the most views, because it shows me how amazing and dedicated the Doom Patrol fan base really was and still is. And to your point of dropping the show and picking it up again, I definitely had some moments of that because I felt like season 4 was the weakest. But seeing the ending is completely worth it.
Doom patrol is one of my favorite shows out there. I have a dissociative disorder similar to jane's, and jane remains to be, in my opinion, one of the least problematic depictions of the disorder. the show is equal parts weird, sad, uplifting, tragic, and just general trauma. So many shows dont properly cover trauma, let alone dynamic and unique body horror trauma that can still somehow be relatable to people who obviously havent experienced it. idk just as a traumatized person it was an almost comforting depiction of trauma and watching everyones unique journey/path for recovery was very heartwarming

Do you know what I realized. This show is basically just the plot of the umbrella academy but better! Superheroes needing therapy after having a terrible past with powers and a horrible mentor who turned out to be the cause of their powers. Then after their mentor dies a time traveling character goes back in time to get the superhero team's help. Then they receive a vision that they cause the end of the world and they have to stop it! These plots are so similar i feel like someone had to have plagerized somewhere, right?
A lot of the comics for both of the shows were made by some of the same people, so they had a lot of similarities. On top of that, the shows were coincidentally made at the same time.
@@LaughingLuLu ok, you replied really fast, wow! Still, it's not unheard of with scripts being copied while shows and movies are being produced. It's why often many similar movies and shows release in the same year. E.g. Captain America: Civil War and Batman V Superman being released in the same year and I know of other examplesI can't remember right now. Happens all the time, rarely gets caught.

I have to agree that season 4 was a bit rocky and I wish they would have given a conclusion to both Dorothy and Kipling but the finale overall was both tragic and beautiful to watch. Plus you have to admit that season is a whole lot better compared to some of the MCU shows especially ones like Secret Invasion and Wandavision there was even a article online called “Inverse” that discussed about how season 2 of Doom Patrol avoided Wandavision’s finale flaw basically it was trying to avoid the mistakes Wandavision had made in its finale compared to that of Doom Patrols. But Kang is just played by a single actor, I’m not trying to be rude but I’m just saying that in the cartoon Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes we saw three different variants of Kang, one was an old man, the other a woman, and a child. I wish that they would have done that. Please don’t think I’m being rude or anything like that and I did like Moon Knight but if I had to be honest I think Doom Patrol handled it better with Crazy Jane they made DID (dissociative identity disorder) more normal and tried to make a little more lighthearted compared to Moon Knight’s. And Doom Patrol doesn’t really seem to do Identity politics compared to marvel like the part with “are you a Egyptian hero?” it just didn’t sound right, again please don’t think I’m being rude or anything. Where in Doom Patrol they just let us the audience relate to any character even if some are people of color like Madame Rouge, Cyborg, and Crazy Jane even their white counterparts like Cliff, Rita, and Larry who is a gay man but you can relate to them on either a personal level or by the choices we make too or even how we act.

The first two seasons were good. After that..eh. The problem I have with this show is that I don't mind if bizarre stuff happens along the way of the story..but the last two seasons just felt like, "we don't really have a story..so lets just make a bunch of bizarre stuff happen".

I always wanted to see the show, as I was a fan of the comics back in the late 80s/early 90s. But being buried on HBO Max's streaming service meant I never got to see it. I am glad to see they stuck very close to the source material (Ignoring Cyborg, he was never part of the team in the comics), and every clip I've seen has Fraser absolutely killing it as Robot Man. Also nice to see they didn't skimp on their weird villains (tho Monsieur Mallah and The Brain as a retired couple I did NOT see coming!). A few things were repurposed for the purposes of TV, but I really wish I could've caught it when airing. Here's hoping they release a DVD box set or something I can grab....
I'm sure there's dvd sets out there somewhere. Probably just hard to find.

I just finished. the fourth season. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this season; it was a drag to get through for me. But I do love this show as a whole, and the Cliff send-off was amazingly done; it even made me cry. I also really loved Larry's clothing during Rita's funeral. I wish he had more wardrobe changes throughout the show. I plan on cosplaying that attire in the future.
Yeah season 4 was a bit of a let down for me as well, besides the finale and the musical ep. Also yeah that outfit for Larry would be a dope cosplay.

This show means so much to me. It just feels so special. Objectively it might not be the best of DCs live action shows but it is absolutely my favourite. It has gotten me so emotionally invested and I started reading some of the comics after seeing this show. I even went to the last panel for the show at NYCC and it was amazing, the actors were so genuine. It sucks that the show ended earlier than they wanted it to but it’s great to see it getting the appreciation it deserves.

Which after watching season 4, is much more disturbing once we find out what happened with Jane. Which she confesses that to him, so they either forgot he said he was responsible or Niles is way more fucked up than he seems on the surface.

my biggest let down with the show, is while a bunch of stuff happens, it feels like not much ever gets resolved. After several seasons all of them are still ready to abandon eachother at a whim, and, they're mostly doing nothing in their huge mansion. I dont really know what i would want, but it feels like they never ever reach their full potential.

The first season of Doom Patrol is genuinely amazing and required viewing, after that the quality honestly declines with each subsequent season enough that I consider the rest of the series beyond S1 optional.

you were very rude... the series is obviously not perfect, nor is Breaking Bad "perfect", it has weak episodes. Doom Patrol has a great resolution, and has several good episodes in each season. I think the lack of budget and the Covid issue hindered the production a lot, but they did the best they could.

Although he is a really great and memorable side character, I didn't really talk about the side characters. I just wanted to focus on the main characters.
I love Doom Patrol. The show heavily borrowed from Grant Morrison's run of the comic. He pretty much defined watch Doom Patrol was after that. Morrison also wrote an incredible mini series on Flex Mentallo who's side character in Doom Patrol and he appeared in the show. The main singer of My Chemical Romance had a pretty decent run as the writer of Doom Patrol.
I definitely wanna check out the comics at some point.

Season 1 was amazing. Just blew me away. I've watched that season like a dozen times over and showed it or highlights of it to so many friends to to turn them on to the show. I can't say the same for the rest of the show. I haven't even bothered to purchase Season 3 or 4 on Blu Ray and almost forgot about the show during after mid Season 4 break - a total 180 from the massive anticipation I had for it during the wait for Season 2! Anyway, Season 2 I generally liked but less than S1 - at least we got some cool villains like Red Jack and Dr. Tyme. Season 3 and 4 were huge steps down. Lost a lot when the Chief was written out. Felt less focused, more meandering. None of the other later villains were as well written as Mr. Nobody. I suspect a lot of the reasoning for these choices was due to production budget. But still I wanted to see the DP function as some kind of superhero team post Season 1 (like in the comics) however weird and dysfunctional they were. Also all the growth the characters had achieved by the end of Season 1 felt like it got ignored/abandoned later so they kept recycling the same issues over and over rather than moving on. There are some highlight episodes and moments I do like in 3 and 4 (Subconscious Patrol, Nostalgia Patrol and Portal Patrol were the standouts for me) but the consistency was gone. Also not a fan of the show's take on Immortus, and The Brain and Mallah needed to be the main villains of season 3.
Wow, I quite literally 100% agree. I personally felt like season 2 and 4 were really weak, with 1 obviously being the best, and 3 having some really great moments. The Brain, Mallah and Rouge are forever engraved in my brain, even if they weren't as well written as Mr Nobody.

I'm borderline incapable of crying, when I want to it feels almost like a sneeze that won't come out. That said, Doom Patrol was one of the very few things my dad and I enjoyed together, so watching the finale about a month after my dad passed away and how their strained relationship hit so close to home, that did it, that's what finally broke me after like a decade and what a fucking release it was.
Wow, that's beautiful. Even though they were "superheroes" they were probably the most relatable characters I've ever seen on television, and I've just felt no other connections like it for other characters in shows.
Still don't understand why they shoe horned cyborg into the show given having a robotman already.
Yeah I can see an argument where you can say he was randomly thrown in there just to give the show a well known character. Even if that's kind of true, I think they did very well with his character, giving him really good character development and making him a fun part of the team.
Because of all popular characters the general audience actually cares about. Cyborg thematically fits the Doom Patrol.
And honestly..... I'm kinda glad that he is in a better show than Titans. lol

It's crazy how much people are divided over that scene. Either people think it's the best thing they've ever seen, or the worst.
I feel the same way about Titans. It was made by the same people and both just understand what it means to have good characters and story. Both also know what the comics are and respect them. Even if they aren’t the best they still are great shows that should not have been cancelled
Although I really didn't like Titans, I had a lot of respect for what they were doing. It sucks what happened to both shows, but hey, at least we got them at all.

As with all things Alan Tudyk Mr. Nobody was my favorite character and I was bummed when he got another gig with Disney. But I can’t think of a better ending for the character.
I also really like Dorothy she was such a sweet girl and she dealt with some really harsh crap.
Finally Mr. Flex who could make everyone orgasm by flexing.
All great characters.
I remember the original Doom Patrol and love how the modern version brought out so much of the subtext.
I've heard a few people say that, and I love knowing that they were faithful when making this new version.
I never expected to love it and it was a wonderful experience. It went places I could never predict and provided singing and dancing werebutts
