1:15 Everglow did an amazing job. But in comparison, it is a very impersonal job. I watched the whole thing as it was being released, and it was entertaining and super emotional with the adaptation of some (untold) scenes into HD. But I wouldn't replace Dan's work with this encyclopedic experience. Dan's commentary makes the whole thing more involving, helps with making some points more clear and also exposes/criticizes some... less developed points.
I actually feel like I kind of understand some of what's going on now, which is a real testament to your story-explaining skills. Thanks for this video, Dan!
Theory time? I think Maleficent can time travel because Union Cross takes place in the realm of sleep, and even Sora and Riku could go to past versions of worlds in DDD. She even said in BBS that she has power over sleep.
Nope, Master Xehanort explained time travel to her but she could only do it when the Keyblade Riku had was stabbed through her heart (you kind of need a Keyblade to do it), then she went into the past and tried to change her worlds story (the movie) from her being defeated/killed. While there she tried multiple times but failed every single time and then a figure calling itself the Darkness told her that she was not in the proper past, but in a data version of the past and that he put her in there because he couldn't let her change the past with her future knowledge. So then the Darkness and Maleficent made a deal that he would send her back to her proper time and she agreed because she understood that she couldn't do anything against the Darkness. Then he sends her back in time and she then resurfaces in Yensid tower in the scene where the fairies "remember and bring her back". That is the explanation of how she was still alive in KH2 after Sora murdered her dragon version. Don't worry, none of this is spoilers.
Maleficent's time travel is entirely according to DDD rules - Riku/Ansem separated her heart from her body, and she traveled to where there was already a version of her - the data Enchanted Dominion - before returning to the present (give or take) near the start of KH2. Since you need a Keyblade in order to release someone's heart, that form of time-travel is associated with Keyblade-wielders, but it's not exclusive to them.
I dunno why but Union X's story feels very intriguing. Maybe because it's on a larger scale than following Sora around for the most part. I'll probably check it out. Also, I have played Union X a bit. If anyone wants to play it, please be aware that is a gacha game so microtransactions are a thing to look out for. From what I've heard some of the content gets more difficult seemingly with the intent on getting players to spend in hopes of getting better gear/etc.

Double recommend Everglow's story movies. It's super handy for the Back Cover events, because they did a good job of weaving the movie in with browser game's events. It's really good. Also, no... Dan... Ava Best Girl.
I haven't played Union X (and I'm not planning to) but for what I know about it, I liked Invi best. Not sure why xD And I thought she was one of the least liked characters until Dan said she is the best. Makes me a bit happy. But Ava is great too! Maybe only the female foretellers are cool (?

Where did the foretellers go? What are the ultimate fates of the dandelions? What's in the black box? Just who is the Master of Masters and what is his goal? Why does Barret wear sun glasses in the Final Fantasy VII Remake when he lives under a plate and there is no sun!? WHAT IS YEN SID'S NAME SPELLED BACKWARDS!? These questions will all be answered in the interviews with Nomura after Kingdom Hearts 4 releases.
Except the stuff about the foretellers, the dandelions, the black box and MoM - those will be teased repeatedly, but not actually revealed until Kingdom Hearts 7.

OK, so. let's put some more pieces together. Firstly, I have one big question left. If the No Name has the record of future events for as long as it exists, why does the Book of Prophecies stop at the Keyblade war? Why doesn't it go all the way to when Xehanort gets hold of it? Maybe something caused it to lose that power, perhaps at the clash with Ava? That is the first time it's used in combat. Here's my big theory: MoM and Luxu are absolutely the same person, based on their actions and the time travel rules of Kingdom Hearts. There has to be a version of you whenever you go to; MoM disappeared right after Luxu left Daybreak Town. People can't retain their memories of time travel; MoM gets around this via the No Name keyblade, as it has the memories of the future within when MoM brings it back with him. He had to have brought the No Name from the future with him, otherwise it couldn't have the memories. Perhaps it only has memories up to the Keyblade War because that was the point at which Luxu traveled back in time to gather apprentices and write the Book of Prophecies. This theory, of course, has several holes in it, most notably how that No Name is now in the present being wielded by Xehanort if it is indeed part of the time loop mentioned above.

I mean, you could've gone over the finer details (like the fight between foretellers being in the movie and the mobile game) but that's probably not too important. That aside about Maleficent though, bwahaha. (Never mind iirc it's like "this is a data copy to stop you messing with the real world, because the MoM knew you'd try something". Which is hilarious but also so very confusing.)
Union Cross really needs a remake on a more appropriate platform and preferably with no gambling involved. Also, 0.2 is probably going to be another three parter; game's just a glorified demo for KH3.
KH Union Cross' padding and microtransactions are just awful. I tried to play the story through the game, but it was just too much time wasting between anything consequential...

Been watching this entire Kingdom Hearts run-through for at least a month now, and I'm finally caught up and viewing a video on its release day! Guess that means I have to wait for more now... :( This has all been immensely entertaining. I've never played a Kingdom Hearts game and I don't think I ever will, because the gameplay doesn't appeal to me. However, the story, although bonkers, is never boring. This game is sadly not very "playable" anymore... They've gone offline, which means all the gameplay is gone. Their theatre is still there, so you can see the cutscenes, but from what I've seen it's sorted by worlds, not by the order you encounter everything in, and so that makes it difficult to follow the full story.
